I'm guessing here but I thought from the first episode, and I might still be wrong, but Zhang has something over YZM that he has to pay her back and he promised her he'd get her this hotel. He never told his grandma his difficulties. She died thinking that he came back for the hotel for ambition when and I'm guessing all this, but in reality, he had to repay a debt to someone.
That doesn't excuse him for not visiting grandma for decade even if he's been working his butt off to get through college and career. YZM has no money other than what he earned in his work. Yet Grandma gave all her funds and business to MCH. This drama trivialized and downplayed the grandma and grandson relationship. Actually, she was very biased in the end. She left no funds for her grandson. When YZM hinted to grandma that she was partial, she said she like them both. but the inheritance revealed she was biased. If not for Zhang, YZM would pack up and go back to HQ in Switzerland.

Ep 19 and 20 was not as emotional or dramatic. Grandma video was very touching, then people cried. But nothing much happened. YZM told remaining part of his tragic life story in less than one minute. Last time, he told the first half of his tragic life story in 4 sentences..

Zhang to YZM: Don't forget what you promised me.

YZM had he told his grandma the truth, she might have given him the hotel instead., maybe.

The drama hardly showed YZM's grief.

so you think if YZM said he does not give up, she would then leave it to him? but isn't that against her wishes based on what he wanted to do with the hotel and displace her people.

Oh that's right. the brother was very young age went to live with his maternal grandmother for six years. I didn't know that MCH lived with her grandparents too but that would make sense since their parents had to work so they could not care for their children on their own.

The granddaughter was also brought up by her step grandmother, an incredible woman full of wisdom. The grandmother fell in love and married her grandfather. It was twilight love.
Such an incredible, intelligent, and wise woman could only fall in love with another incredible and intelligent person. It is possible MCH not only received guidance from her grandmother but also inherited the good qualities of her grandfather or some other relative, same for the brother. MCH full of love, compassion, kindness, obedience, patience, intelligence, common sense, and wisdom became a role model for her brother who respected and loved her.
Love and kindness spreads to others.
Just because the parents are not smart or capable doesn't mean their children cannot be smart. The parents were born poor in rural China, no education, no experience, no skills.
no exposure to the world. Their children seems like they went to decent schools., not top tier , but maybe second tier schools.

He must be sitting under the tree that he and grandma planted as a seed right before he was taken abroad as a kid. Grandma said he cried. So, now the tree is full grown.
We find the grandson full grown crying again but this time, he's not planting a seed with grandma but sitting under the tree, and grandma is gone, and now he's all alone, she was his only kin.

If YZM was truly a heartless man, he would feel no remorse and no tears.
Before grandma left, she smells human touch in him, her dying wish to him is that.

that is a possibility that she intended to will everything to her granddaughter but now changed the house to YZM; however, based on how the drama unfolded, I tend to believe after she spent intimate time with MCH and after her query about how YXM would handle her hotel, she changed it to MCH. That makes more sense to me because she had to have reason and prior to all this, she didn't know how capable MCH was, MCH had never shared her dreams or ambitions about hotel management to her based-on grandma's reaction in their conversation, it felt like it was discovery to her.

in the preview, YZM sat under the tree and cried after the funeral. I wonder if that is the tree that he and grandma planted from a seed before he went abroad decades ago.

Such a daughter had a grandmother who watched her grow up and was active in her life. She even paid her medical bills. The grandmother is kind, gentle, generous, loving, compassionate, wise, smart, gutsy, independent, capable, businesswoman, beautiful, sophisticated, perceptive, etc. The grandmother is 86 yrs old has lived through two marriages, and dealt with a lot of painful personal issues. Don't you think that her granddaughter who visits her regularly few times a week, was in effect also raised by this amazing woman?
