I think XFF's husband, SYR used the Princess to get rid of his wife and family. Her revenge should be with her husband to be justified. She thought it was the Princess because her husband said it was the Princess as he was burying her alive.

She was tortured so that's all she knows is torture. The Princess lacked warmth and love in her miserable life. SYR could have stopped her, but he did not. He basically led her on. He lied when he says it's the Princess not him. I thought the Princess created a Frankenstein SYR but it turned out, SYR was already a monster. SYR is a coward. He could have divorced his wife if he wanted to climb the ladder with the Princess but he chose to play the long game waiting to see who will ultimately be in power so he can align with them. Basically, the Princess was used by everyone. They all knew she was capable of being sadistic and kill and torture so she became their pawn.

XFF should take revenge on SYR and not Princess W. SYR seduced Princess W., fooled her, endured her mistreatment, patiently waiting when he will have the advantage over her. He lied to himself, to his wife and family that he had to kill XFF and her family because of Princess W. He used the Princess to conveniently get rid of his wife now that he has seduced the Princess successfully. At least XFF still has her father and brother and Duke and later on a daughter. Princess W. life is truly sad and the most tragic figure of this drama.

SYR pushing Princess W away because he is waiting to see who will be in power before he plays his cards. He doesn't want to be aligned with the Princess W if her brother, King Cheng is not in power. If he becomes her Prince Consort now, then the current emperor will no longer have use for him. Princess W has created Frankenstein. He is scheming all the time like she taught him so well (or was he the one who was playing her all along?). But now when she doesn't want to play, he still wants to play and she's on the other end of the stick. Did his soul died too when he was forced to kill his own wife or did he ever really love his wife? Maybe he was always using XFF too to get ahead but that wouldn't' make sense since she's so smart. Every character is full of tragedy. It makes sense why SYR caught the attention of Princess W who said he was the one person who did not avoid me or afraid of me. Or could it be that SYR on purpose wanted to get her attention so he can ascend higher? When exactly did SYR become so scheming and evil?

SYR eyes are ice cold. He is already dead, no longer human, a ghost walking around without a soul. Princess Wanning is a broken full of anguish from hell.

Wanning's problem is that she fell in love. She did not expect to fall in love with him. Once that happened, he became the predator and she the prey, the power dynamics changed. Finally, she tasted the bitterness of losing the one you love. In her case, he does not love her back.

These two are like the leads of a main story inside the main story because their roles are so critical and so powerful to the overall story which really revolves around them. Their characters take a surprising twist too.

I think if a person were to watch it the second time around, they will discover a lot of foreshadowing throughout the drama that they missed the first time around. It's worth a second watch because the acting is so raw.

MDL is just one rating and because ratings are subjective, it shouldn't matter. What matters is whether you enjoyed it or not. The rating does not reflect the quality of the production.

He should also be one of the main characters. The entire plot revolves around him.

I read that most kissing scenes there is no exchange of saliva at all. The way they make kissing scenes is intricate art what they actually do and what the audience sees on screen.

A lot of young male actors are paired older female leads. Xu Kai's older female leads are reasonable averaging about 3 to 5 yrs, the oldest is Yang Mi 8.5 yrs.
Here in The Double, the age gap is 11 yrs and in The Rational Dylan Wang is 18 yrs younger than the female lead. Yu Zheng likes to pair up younger actors with his more experienced ones.

I 'm with you. I don't care for older woman and younger man like the President of France Macron is 25 yrs younger than his wife, yuck! But Yang Hua is too adorable a character, so I watch it for him. I almost didn't watch it just because I saw the picture of a young man with older woman. I totally understand if someone don't like this kind of pairing. I'm in no way offended. Yang Mi is a very good actress, but I just don't have a desire to watch her dramas, but I really did like her acting in SHPH. She was perfect for the role.

Yu Zheng is famous for having favorite younger newcomers and will take his older more experienced or more popular and pair them up to promote his favorites in dramas he produces to debut them. I don't think Wu Jin Yan was his favorite, nor Xu Kai but then Xu Kai became famous overnight in his first real role in the Story of Yanxi Palace, a role he only got because the other actor didn't want to shave his head, not because Yu Zheng was thinking of promoting him because it's obvious from Untouchable Lovers. I doubt he thought the character was that important to the drama so let Xu Kai do it. Every few years, Yu Zheng will have talented newcomers to promote. Whatever he does, is solely for his benefit. It's all business to him.

I felt yuck too before I watched SHPH but after I watched it, I actually could see the sweet and charm between them. But I get what you mean though. I don't even like Yang Mi but I like the way she portrayed her character - determined but vulnerable. I think it was Yang Hua's adorable boyish introverted charm in a tall handsome body that made it work if that even makes sense since she's older, but their interactions became authentic and convincing so it didn't' become yuck anymore to me. I saw some video someone made of popular dramas and SHPH is actually a really big hit in terms of over a billion views.

Well, the rain scene where Jiang Li was drunk was pretty wild, sensual, and tantalizing. It had everything but the kiss.
