Chinese dramas, even the gory ones, don’t bother me the way Hollywood ones do. I think it’s because Chinese dramas focus more on style than realism, so even violent scenes feel more like art than something that could actually happen. There was only one eerie character in this drama that genuinely scared me — the kind of Halloween‑type creepy that makes you afraid something might jump out at you in the dark. Normally, even spooky scenes in Chinese dramas don’t scare me at all, and I’m a total scaredy‑cat. Again, I think it’s because they’re stylized, not realistic.

I just finished ep. 33. ML’s arc got chaotic. He’d been consistent up until the moment he stopped her from killing the prime minister, but after that his behavior changed — in ep. 33, he became more aggressive and rasher, which didn’t match the character I was watching before. His acting was stronger before that shift, and it shows that even a good actor needs a solid, coherent arc to work with. Maybe in ep. 34, he will change back, now that the plot is done.

Changing the ML is simple — they can write him out and bring in someone new. Replacing the FL is harder because she is the story, so switching actresses changes the whole feel. If Season 2 isn’t focused on her anymore, then recasting won’t remake the entire show — it just makes her character feel different while everything else continues as usual. People will still compare the two actresses, and sometimes the original looks better, sometimes the new one does. It’s unpredictable.

The Cui family (particularly the Boling Cui which I think this drama is based on) was super elite in the real Tang Dynasty—one of the top aristocratic clans, often seen as even more prestigious than the imperial Li family in social and cultural circles. Historical records show they were so prestigious that Emperor Taizong reportedly felt displeased when told the Cui were more influential than the imperial Li family in social/cultural terms.

The CP says, ‘one Cui falls, another can rise.’ It feels like the drama is ending the Cui storyline as a tragic fall from power, but not a total destruction of the clan. It leaves room for the Cui family to come back and avenge his death. That's why the CP needed to end the consort's influence. Perhaps the emperor has always had his political reasons to keep Cui family alive despite their corruption, as well as his love for his consort, but I think more for political reasons.

Li Peiyi's master had to know but sheltered her from it to protect her. She has to find out the hardest way on her own. Well, she was so tormented and traumatized, He wanted to protect her.

In this drama, Esther Yu’s voice and performance are spot on. I can’t speak for her other roles, but she was absolutely the right choice for this fantasy character. She brings the animated version to life so well.

There was no tv back then in 1975 in China and no NBA exposure. They didn't know how to shoot basketballs the same way nor be doing layups, but I really doubt that the schools had a basketball team, and even if they did, they wouldn't be playing it the same way. If you don't' use your own voice, you get criticized, if you do, you still get criticized. And how is an actor going to get experience, if they don't use their own voice. A full in-house dubbing process is far more involved than simply sitting down and talking into a microphone.

This film called, Raise the Red Lantern, about concubines is genuinely heartbreaking, and it stays with you long after it’s over. The film runs about two hours, and you can find it on YouTube—though some uploads are a bit blurry. I watched it on an international flight, and the quality was much better.

do you like tragic women dramas? I know one that is truly tragic and sad and shocking ending, amazing acting, it's an older drama. It's not ancient China. So tragic, you won't want to watch it again. It's called Raise the Red Lantern.

What about Yang Zi/ Hu Ge drama that recently aired called, 'Born to be Alive,'? It's serious, none of that soap opera, cringey stuff you hate but slow pace, you may need patience. You can watch it for free on You Tube.

I actually think you might like Always on the Move, the acting is really good, and there is romance, and it's not the soap opera cringey stuff. It's got a nice pace, has charm to it, yet serious, and emotional.

There is romance, it ends on romance. I detected the romance from the get-go. There's a lot going on in this drama and underneath is a healthy strong love story.

I think it's great she can use her own voice and should continue to do it. It's always better to use your own voice, if they let you. I also think in studio postproduction dubbing process should sound better, it should offer consistent sound quality.

FL's master totally knows how dark and messed up the court system really is, but he shielded her from it. FL ended up finding out the ugly truth the hard way anyway.

I like this director too. He's mainly done xianxia and wuxia. This might be his first historical or period drama.

Auspicious Time Secret. The acting was really good.

I still have to wait for last three episodes. To be honest, after reading the spoilers, I can wait. I feel like the story took a different tune. I couldn't even guess anything right.
