@ximmich thank you so much for your comment! you have got me hooked. as someone who likes well-developed characters and a good storyline (don´t take me wrong, I do have a soft heart too and enjoy some romance ... just not 30 chapters of it :D) would you recommend Thousand Autumns? I have heard it´s quite popular but I am curious to know what you think of it?
I am also not into reading things I don´t like just for the sake of finishing them, though I´ll probably give 2HA a go just for the sake of it, but something more stable would fit me better, I guess.

Really?! I literally almost cried after that Bone of Impurity attack scene and wished that there was someone in my life who would take care of me that way Gu Yun does for Chang Geng and vise versa, but to each their own :).
There is absolutely no doubt that SPL is more of a "practical" and "realistic" novel in a sense of emotions and how they work in real life. The emotions are just not as heavy there. I am very excited to read the two novels, TGCF and 2HA. but reading the comments they seem to be very different from SPL so I´m curious whether they will catch my heart. Maybe I´m just not as sentimental as I have thought :D.
I just really love that SPL doesn´t concentrate on the love story THAT MUCH but it has a place and time to introduce the characters on their own as well as "play around with history" (meaning it is after all a fictional novel).
but I must admit all those raving reviews make me very excited to read 2HA :D.

@wotermelon no, you were very nice and explained your opinion very well! thank you for that ! I was just hoping I didn´t come off as too stubborn or so, as my passion sometimes gets the worst of me. I´m glad all is chill and we´ll get to discuss the book and the show (hopefully, one day :D) more!
I´ll also definitely read 2HA so I know where to go with my questions and feelings :D

so I have read that part where the guy who they later killed anyway explained that the bone of impurity gets into the body by one child eating another child? is that really true or will they just explain that later and say that those were just saying? because I just CAN´T GET THAT PICTURE OUT OF MY HEAD :D.

ahahah, true. the plot can be a bit confusing sometimes I literally have to have a map at hands to understand what countries are talked about but I think after having read half of the book I am getting better :D. I am definitely soon gonna ask for some recs in that are of similar books.

right?! I feel the same about the storyline. it is not JUST about love, it is actually about the two characters and their lives within a war. I absolutely love discovering their backstories and reading what they are going through and how they are changing and evolving. gu yun is not a perfect character but he is ok with admitting his mistakes. he is not perfectly happy about his status, but he had no choice than to take the role of a marshal and just deal with it. he is not crying about it day and night, he is just living his life to the best and Chang Geng is such a wonderful person, everything that he has done for Gu Yun but ... not only for him. He also understands that there is a possibility that the love of his life may never feel the same about him and he just accepts it and moves on and when Gu Yun takes his head out of his butt and accepts his feelings, he is just happy but they both know that their love is great but there is the country at war and they just move on. I love that. it is realistic, raw and deep. perhaps even deeper than those grand love stories.
I just love how they are two confident, capable independent men that are perfectly fine on their own but absolutely even better together and the romantic scenes always come out of blue, they are like little presents :D

well, the mechanical stuff, I just imagine them like sort of robots made of armour? the ziliuljin is supposed to be like oil so you know petrol and all. but I get you, it is a story that you really need to get into. it took me 45 chapters to really start binging it, but tbh I had no troubles falling in love with Gu Yun :D. I felt sorry at best for Chang Geng, but I promise he´ll become a very interesting character :) and it´s awesome to watch him grow. you´ll feel very proud of him! ♥
but if it´s not for you, it´s not for you. if they change the story heavily it won´t be the same though so I hope they will keep it authentic.

oh I wasn´t trying to bash the book. the whole story sounds interesting and I´m very eager to read it later, I was simply asking whether there was a certain reason why it was so popular and thought whether the reason might be that the romantic scenes are more frequent and that´s what most people like? SPL is romantic too, of course, but the scenes are more casual? it´s more action than words.
I just wish that SPL got more popular too because personally I adore the book to bits.
