Are you saying people shouldn't like him because he's mentally ill?
While I think Barcode was excellent in this series I’m not blindly defending his character or his character’s actions. I AM, however, seeing the nuance in the situation and being understanding that he was in a difficult and potentially dangerous situation even with Mr Keng and made the choice he thought would result in the least harm to himself. If it wasn’t for Jin that decision may have, in fact, been the path of least harm he could have chosen. If he rejected Mr Keng what would the teacher have done? How might he have chosen to exert his power either as a teacher or physically to punish Non for that rejection? Is cheating on your boyfriend out of self preservation worse than risking the teacher taking what he wants by force? Claiming you stole the money and turning you over to the police? People are unpredictable and Non had no reason to think he could say no and not have consequences for it.

I am still not buying the fact that Phee Killed New to save Tee... !!!He could have shot him somewhere , maybe…
We never see New die. He’s still conscious last we saw him, I thought. He might wind up with a collapsed lung from where he was shot thiugh. However Top should have bled out from that gut shot and he didn’t so who knows what their intent is for his end or lack thereof

I never got the impression that Non liked Mr Keng. My read was always that he felt obligated to “repay” Mr…
Everything about the way he initiates sex with him that first time has an air of “I helped you so you should help me” type of coercion. Does he hold him down and rape him with force? No. Does he explicitly threaten him? No. This is implied repayment for his help and if not given there is the threat of it being taken more forcefully. Does Non know for sure what Keng will do if rejected? No. Does he want to gamble with that? Also no. This isn’t a unique situation. Women/afab individuals are often put in similar circumstances.

Again I ask: what does that have to do with his mental illness?

However, while he did “cheat,” I would argue that wasn’t exactly consensual as there was coercion and implied obligation to repay the teacher’s money through sex. Did he lie about it? Yes. Should he have been honest about what was going on with Phee? Resounding yes. I don’t agree with how Non handled that whole situation, especially right after promising Phee he wouldn’t lie to him or not tell him things (I forget the exact phrasing from that scene). However, I think painting Non simply as a cheater who saw someone he wanted and went off to fuck them despite being in a relationship is wildly inaccurate.

You don’t see the outright hypocrisy in you stating it’s okay that Park Jihoom doesn’t look so much like Gray because it wouldn’t be possible to find someone who looks like that AND is a good actor while also criticizing Ryeoun as a pick for a role based on him not looking like the comic character? I am putting aside your assumptions about his acting not only because I disagree with him not being able to play a charismatic character but also because the casting director clearly thinks he IS capable of playing the role.

Just because someone understands the choice they are making doesn’t mean coercion isn’t a factor. There is a reason why it is not considered consensual when someone is coerced into sex in any form.

First, as the other commenter said, Non was getting treated. Not only that but his bf knew bc we see texts from Phee asking if he’d taken his meds.

Second, the idea that someone who has a mental illness or mental condition must be treated (and your comment implies be done with treatment) is so discriminatory. Some mental conditions (major depressive disorder, adhd, autism, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, etc) aren’t things that get “fixed.” You don’t go on meds and/or go to therapy for a certain amount of time and then you’re all better and don’t need them anymore. Nor do having these mental conditions stop people from having healthy relationships and being good partners.

Because of Tan/New so many innocent people died. Like what was that driver's fault??? And White?! He was completely…
We have a lot of people who are very black and white and who decided they were Team Non no matter what and therefore Team New no matter what. The series and character have a lot of nuance and layers to them. No one here is all good or all bad but rather shades of grey. Many in the comments don’t understand that though. New/Tan was irredeemable and Non in his hallucinations was just as inaccurate as Non in everyone else’s. But I think his hallucinations of Non says a lot about New and his self-centeredness.

I’m at ep 8 and I don’t understand what the makers were going for .. like am I supposed to sympathise with…
I never got the impression that Non liked Mr Keng. My read was always that he felt obligated to “repay” Mr Keng’s money and that Keng clearly implied he wanted Non’s body as that payment. Keng never comes out explicitly to say that but the undertones of that scene made it pretty clear to me. It was clearly him taking advantage of Non bc of what he had given him and Non feeling obligated to give in and give it to him.
On Dead Friend Forever - DFF Mar 9, 2024
My adrenaline is so high from that finale and the open ending is like having an over abundance of energy without having anywhere to put it. I’m so jittery and restless on the inside because even though I got an ending it doesn’t feel like closure. I kept expecting a twist or small things we got hints about to come out but instead it wound up being exactly what it looked like and I feel cheated for that reason.

But damn. That was a hell of a series. I wish there were more horror/thrillers in BL

Y'all are so biased with Non just because Barcode played his role, totally ignoring the fact that he cheated on…
Non’s mental illness, which is never really specified or talked about only shown or talked about in regard to him being medicated, is neither here nor there. He made a lot of poor choices but I don’t think his mental illness somehow makes him a worse person or more deserving of his fate.

I also love supernatural shows but I tend to not expect supernatural elements if the show hasn’t given me a reason to. though I can see the argument for it with some of the ominous set up in the first few episodes it just doesn’t feel like that to me

I’ve been suspecting she’s the daughter or possibly granddaughter of the person in the film. One of those situations where offspring/descendant look identical/near identical to their parent or someone else in the lineage. But I’ve also suspected that something happened to said relative and that one teacher who seemed spooked by her arrival knows what happened. Like it’s really Minami’s grandmother in the film who was raped and didn’t survive child birth or something. Plus, with episode four, we see that Minami has some other film with that girl in it too that she’s not talking about.

Oh god, this stars a J-popper? No WONDER it's boring and there will be no-homo...it's not allowed in his idol…
You realize the actor who played Yoh in My Personal Weatherman is also a Japanese idol, right?

You can think I'm wrong all you want. Jihoon does not look like a tiny, slight pushover of a pretty boy either in the series or outside of it. Having muscle doesn't equate to either being able to fight or having power behind your punch necessarily so you saying you don't believe Ryeoun could beat up people is entirely subjective and based on nothing. Real fighters have a lot of different builds. Give the guy a chance to play the role before you harp on and on about how terrible he is for it. I wouldn't necessarily have picked most of the actors they cast, but if they can play the role that's all that matters to me.

I love Ryeoun from another series I watched him in so I am more than happy to see what he does with Ben.

Trying to cast people by how they look for a webtoon adaptation is so unrealistic. Park Jihoon doesn’t physically evoke Gray at all. Gray is very slight, petite and fragile looking. Jihoon has muscle. He is small and compact but doesn’t physically look like a child is likely to be able to beat him. However he did a fantastic job with that character. So maybe instead of trying to fit appearances to their comic counterparts, consider whether or not the actor can play the actual part. You’re never going to get someone who matches how every character looks especially when you have Donald and some of the other guys in that series. Webtoon/manhwa character designs do not align with reality.

Review For Him

People can like things that aren’t good, 100%. And if you enjoy and love this series that’s totally fine. It’s saying you don’t know what people are complaining about that I take issue with because whether or not you like it, I cannot understand you not seeing how this turned into something of a dumpster fire.

If the numerous problems were outweighed for you by the things you enjoyed then that’s fine. But don’t pretend the show was well written or well done or actually good when from what you’ve said you clearly understand that it’s not.

my comment was in reaponse to you saying the low rating won’t stop you from liking it. It was, in essence, a statement that it doesn’t have to be good for people to like it and positing that plenty of people will watch it despite the rating because “good” doesn’t equate to “like” anymore than “not good” equates to “not liking.”
