is it me or is the mic quality in ep 1 really bad

seems decent otherwise, but it got a bit distracting

edit: seems like it was just that one scene since i don't hear audio issues anymore

Every time an episode ends I always have the same thought...they're too short! T-T I could totally watch a two…
if there's one thing i like about j-dramas over thai dramas is length
i always feel like commercial breaks, and credits shave like 8 precious minutes off the timeslot on thai dramas

we could have like two episodes with all the time spent unused, but lbc does a good job of not having traditional padding

Review Ossan's Love Spoiler
I think the "only wants a housekeeper" criticism is a bit unfounded. He would've picked differently in the end if that was the case, right?
While I think there could've been one more episode to fill in blanks, there are several situations that stood out to me that made the love seem genuine:

1) When giving the couple the house, he tells them that love is about compromise. When Maki leaves, Haruta promises to be more respectful and promises to do more around the house.

2) Haruta is visibly confused by Maki's response to his coming out to the office. Haruta is also visibly upset by Maki's talk to the celebrities and feels bad for being in the closet.

3) He calls Maki out on his defense mechanism at the end. Haruta, as someone who's unwilling to ever confess feelings, calls Maki out for his "I'm not good enough" statement.

I guess a criticism would be that the sexuality of Haruta is left a bit ambiguous. You don't really ever know if they're actual gay, bisexual, or if it's just a "I'm not gay but I love you" trope.
I think Haruta is just very awkward with the inability to say no or anything to hurt the feelings of others. It's a pretty severe character flaw that could've been addressed more.

The film's short length makes it a lot more confusing, and that's why I greatly prefer the series. I think the relationship could've been hinted at more, but I guess a rewatch is in order. Both series make it that Haruta comes to his senses when he's going to confess to someone else, but other than that there's no truly strong indication of true love outside of the finale kisses. The series has him flatout say "I love you' and he wants Maki in spite of his faults.

Title Reply 1997 Spoiler
Pretty great, but I have a few issues:

- feel like everything surrounding Joon-Hee would've ended up being more relevant that it ending up . Yoon-je never had the meaningful conversation with him I wanted, even with all the implied feelings given. Pretty tastefully done for Korean standards, but I would've liked more.

- The show tries to throw a "who is actually the husband" question when it's so incredibly obvious who it is that it hurts. Why do all the present day scenes exist so early when they basically spoil everything?

- Some of the concert scenes drag on, especially the standoff in the rain.

Pretty strong overall but I wish Joon-Hee's sidestory ended up more impactful in the grand scheme of things. A solid 8, and tat's saying a lot since I didn't like the other ones in the series (I hated 1994 for its queer bait and felt its characters and humor were way less interesting).

Tin's reasoning for his personality is pretty cliche but they didn't dwell on it at all. Looks like there's finally going to be meaningful development with the other couples soon, which is nice.

Does anyone want to recommend any other Thai series that I would like if I LOVE LBC? It's my favorite Thai drama…
TWM is like most other Thai BLs. Comedy first, drama second. Thai BLs tend to have unrealistic relationships, tons of goofy humor, and questionable plot devices (evil girlfriend is popular).
I'd say it's about the same as most Thai BLs but it has very strong fanservice. LBC is kind of the diamond in the rough compared to everything else.

none of the leads were interesting and it was all cliches

Well. I just read that DayLi is gonna make her first appearance in ep 10. I suppose we should prepare for some…
I hope they don't go overboard with that route. Such an overdone and boring BL trope. Just look at "Together With Me" or the rare male version in "Bad Romance."

A character can be unlikable and a cause of conflicts without being evil like a cartoon character. I hope she ends ip being a real character with real feelings.

It literally scares me how good LBC is. How will i enjoy mediocre BL ever again when I know they could be putting…
Same. It's actually amazing how long it took to get a good Thai BL. Almost all of them struggle with production issues (which is understandable), but most of them fail to have engaging characters or engaging conflicts.

This basically cut out all the fat and BS that plagues BL and left us with what the viewers actually want. I still think this show has some small flaws but compared to other BLs it's pretty great.

It's great. Most BLs tend to keep the shyness as a crippling character flaw throughout the whole series. It's glad to see development not take forever in BLs.

It doesn't really count as BL I guess, but I think Ossan's Love is the best. That said, this fixed a lot of issues…
it's worth comparing humor because this series uses plenty of humor almost all the time (can and pond are jokes almost every time they pop up) and it ever really lands, but that's probably due to its younger audience appeal

anyways, i wasn't aware of how big this was internationally but i wonder how well it's doing overall but i don't know where to find viewership count and all

also "changing the bl world" doesn't matter when reflecting quality, only social relevance
i think it's pretty cool that this show is so international though, and i hope all countries realize all the free publicity that can be done by making their shows more public

a show doesn't have to have a message

a show with gay people can be made for entertainment and doesn't need to have any pro lgbt messages in it (of which it already has plenty)

love by chance has no messages or anything and everyone that likes it knows because they're not watching it for any messages, just a cute and interesting relationship that's fairly realistic by bl standards

"red balloon" is probably the only bl that really has any sort of message, at least one that's more direct and not something you can imply

I think watching Ossan's Love, or basically every BL for that matter, for engaging relationships is kind of ridiculous at this point. All the high rated ones on this site (because for some reason people think Together With Me and 2 Moons were good) have mediocre relationships with dumb conflicts, lack of chemistry, or dumb conclusions.

While this has probably the best relationship of any BL, I think in sheer entertainment value Ossan's Love is better. Its production quality is far better, its humor is better, its cast is better, and it has more plotlines. I understand the whole criticism with the main relationship but upon rewatching there are subtle hints thrown in there several times to show that he truly cares for Maki and they're fairly evident upon rewatching. Also, if "because he takes care of him" was actually the reason he wouldn't have made his decision to begin with.

If looking objectively at solely the relationship part of the series, this beats it. In terms of everything else, it loses to it. I'm just one to prefer an overall package over a relationship of two characters I don't find particularly interesting or attractive, even if I want to see how it ends.

Maybe my opinion ill change once any of the relationships get more interesting, but for the rest of this season we're only going to see the main relationship most likely unless the other relationships start having actual development.

My opinion is subject to change as initially I didn't even like the series when I saw the first two episodes but I started to enjoy it as it improved, so hopefully these relationships can get a little more interesting.

can we all just agree that love by chance is the best thing that ever happened to the bl industry? thank you
It doesn't really count as BL I guess, but I think Ossan's Love is the best.

That said, this fixed a lot of issues i initially had with the first episodes and gets better and better. They even got rid of the joke characters, which is rare for a BL since they love their padding devices. pretty solid overall even if I'm not attracted to any character besides Tin.

If you only count the relationship, I'd say this is the best though. It's just not as well-rounded an overall package.

This is the best drama I've seen on this site and the only one I've ever rewatched. Upon rewatching I found a better translation which made it a lot more enjoyable, especially on the last two episodes.

That said, I don't really know what they can do besides a "what's happening now" specia. I don't really know how the series can go everywhere. Basically everything has been tightly concluded outside of the Takegawa tease in the last few minutes of the last episode.

It's a great show and I'd love to see more but I can't really see it being expanded or anything. If they can somehow continue it and keep the quality the same, they definitely should. That feels like an impossibility, though.

idk if the message i'm responding to got deleted or if i just can't see it but whatever:

I'm perfectly fine with them being unable to talk to teir parents, but their inability to communicate as a couple after 3-4 years (as Korn said) is pretty awful. Their relationship should be something the viewer should want to succeed, but it feels so disjointed and devoid of real love (same can be said for all the couples in the trilogy, honestly) that the creators have to shove some external conflict in our faces when I'd really like a more personal, internal conflict between the two as the main draw of the series.

The series has started about the same as any BL, honestly. It's a generic BL with generic tropes and humor but with a strong presentation and cast. But when the main couple hasn't seem to have had any growth throughout two series I wonder if they'll gain any now.

The coming out and accepting/disapproval of the gay romance can make for insanely strong scenes that can give lasting impressions depending on how the do it, so I hope that scene will improve the opinion of this series when it comes.

The entire series is carried by some of the strongest male fanservice of any BL.I enjoyed TWM enough even with its lack of depth, but as long as this doesn't pull an absurd Bad Romance ending I'll be satisfied with this.
