I had high hopes for this series, but I like it less and less as it progresses.... I still hope it gets better…
I wish BLs would establish the relationship early so there'd be less padding. BLs are all about padding until the final conflict in the last three episodes.
I want to see a BL about maintaining a relationship and the struggles of being in one instead of having the same formula every time. I'm tired of having to scream "why can't these characters just speak what's on their mind and get over it" over and over.
I hope this doesn't become like every other BL. Constant back-and-forth between "I'm not good enough" and "yes you are" is gonna get stale if it makes it past a second episode.
I think having the kiss early allows the plot to go at a much faster pace. Most BLs take until episode 4 or 5…
Yeah, filler is pretty brutal for most BLs. I wish writers weren't afraid to have more drama or more serious moments. That's why I think having the scene with the mother so early in this series was really refreshing. No backpedaling for half the series to express emotions.
BLs tend to have high highs but pretty low lows. Outside of some irrelevant side character, there is so low here so far.
HEAR ME OUT!This series is pretty consistent with remarkable episodes week after week! Still can't believe this…
I think having the kiss early allows the plot to go at a much faster pace. Most BLs take until episode 4 or 5 for the kiss to show up and at that point the season is halfway over.
Buildup is fine, but almost every BL suffers heavily from pacing. They tend to drag on and on with "I love you but I can't date you" scenes that are often repeated way too much (Together With Me is a great example) and the climax tends to be way too quickly resolved.
Please don't let this be a "I can't date you because I'll feel bad for this girl so the writers will have to make her a terrible person in order for the two boys to get together" plot that a lot of bls suffer from.
BLs in general try to force antagonists that aren't needed instead of having conflicting internal emotions as the driving force of the plot. Oh and the "I'm not gay I just love you" crap gets old too.
I never liked the gay stereotype side characters that a lot of BLs tend to have. They usually undermine the severety of the struggles of the main characters. Why have coming to terms with sexuality as a major focus (SOTUS S for example) when there are flamboyant side characters that none of the characters seem to care about? It comes off as a bit silly.
Either way, it's great. Last I saw was Advance Bravely which was great but marred but a censored ending (could've ended literally before the anime with a longer eye-gazing scene) and I'm looking for other BLs. This is the first one that I've watched while it's in production so I'm not used to being unable to binge watch.
I watched other BLs like Water Boy and Together With Me and I'm looking for others. They're great time sinks even if they usually end up a bit shallow, but this one seems pretty solid. The fact that a character flatot says they're gay instead of this "I'm not gay but I love this male" sidestepping others tend to do, and I like the realistic portrayal of a parent.
If anyone can recommend me any other BLs, please do so. I'm not used to waiting for episodes.

season 2 has an insanely awful ml romance plot but a decent enough bl plot

ep 1 was solid
