It was a 6.5/10 for me. Never felt like 8.7 drama. If you are a sucker for revenge stories you should watch it. I liked it though the pace was sometimes not fitting, behaviour and steps of some characters often confusing and unreasonable and also unnecessary ecchi stuff as fan service. At the last couple of episodes it was difficult to not fall asleep... Most interesting character: the main lead. His story is my main motivation to watch the 2nd part.
I wish the same, or that I could finally find something similar to this.
Back to 1989 and behind your smile were both pretty good. Don't pay attention to rating and try them out; taiwanese dramas usually dont get a high rating. I hope you enjoy them 🙏
Finally completed. It was actually a mediocre drama. I needed several attempts to not drop it after watching the first couple episodes. It was hard to imagine the ML as a prince- he looks way too young with that baby face and too skinny. Fortunately he has a deep smooth voice which indicated that he was a grown-up in the drama and not a little boy... His and the FL's acting was decent and both were a good match although I didn't feel much chemistry. The kissing scenes were awkward.
The FL was a brave and intelligent young woman but her harsh voice is seriously hard to listen. It destroyed just every romantic mood. I wouldn't watch another drama with her as the main lead. Also the motives of the villain were confusing and not consistent, many steps seemed just like to fill the 16 episodes. Therefore the pace felt from the 9th episodes really off and the story got draggy. The timeline was also really messed up. The FL is apparently 28 ys old and ten years ago she was 18 ys old- so why was she still a little girl in the memories of the prince? The ten years gap was mentioned multiple times... not sure if the subtitles were just bad.
The good things: the comedy is fine, the OST is not outstanding but still nice and I enjoyed the life of the prince during his time in the village (though it was way too long). But the best cast was the brother (such pretty eyes!)- he played his role as an assassin very well and was the most interesting person, unfortunately he didn't got more screen time to know more about him and his past.
First long cdrama with more than 20 eps I actually liked. FL was cute and I liked her character development. But she was portrayed as overly smart without having a proper education for more than 15 years which felt sometimes a little bit off and not consistent. At first I wanted to drop the drama because of the stone like face of the ML who was so young and couldn't convince being a general, also the family relations seemed so complicated. But I am glad I continued. I wouldn't rewatch it but I enjoyed the family interactions, the breath-taking cinematography and the beautiful costumes. It was really a treat for the eyes. Also I didn't mind the age gap and the FL still being 15 ys old; I actually thought it was a brave decision of the writer to make this historical drama as realistic as possible. The pace is awfully slow so I am not going to watch immediately the 2nd part.
Question: Niao Niaos mother served in the military so I am curious if this is historically accurate. Was this seriously possible for women at that time in China?
"Alchemy of Souls Part 2" actress is far better than first one.
I agree. I preferred her more in the 1st part and I'm glad she gets her body back. Therefore I am already looking forward when the 2nd part of Alchemy is finally released in my country.
why is this series still rated 8.7? it should have dropped down atleast to 7 or even below cuz of worst kdrama…
I think people are conflicted since the rest of the drama is well done and ep 1-15 are well-executed. Some user already stated they are still rating it with 10/10. Apart from this SJK has huge fan base; don't estimate this factor
I had the opposite, I quit twice on the first episodes. To tell you the truth I don't remember this drama and…
I also like various types of dramas, depending on my mood. Maybe one day I will come back.
I don't have any grudges against this actress (it was my first drama with her as FL) and I apologise if I hurt any feelings. So I have deleted the 2nd part of my comment. It is her body, she can do whatever she wants. I don't have any proof though her face with the pointy chin and nose feels for me off. I just wanted to express that I like more natural looking actresses with flaws.
It is really high for a jdrama. kdramas are usually better rated than dramas from other countries no matter how bad they are... the best rated dramas are almost all kdramas although some of them are grossly overrated.
People who are giving a drama like this one 10 out of 10 points though they are clearly frustrated with the ending are the reason why you can't trust the rating on MDL...
Sometimes I wish that I don't know this drama and could watch it all over again. It was such a great emotional roller coaster. One of my favorite feel-giddy-and-totally-good dramas.
The lift scene was for me the most emotional one... DJ was such a sweetheart who tried to keep his grandpa from feeling humiliated. The ultimate sign of affection.
