Title W Spoiler
i think the reason behind the father wanting to kill Kang Chul is the meaning behind Saturn Devouring His Son painting by Goya: the fear of being overturned by his own "child", maybe he wanted to kill Kang Chul because he was tired of a character that has taken over his life for 10 years, which was confirmed by his assistant. He just wants to be over and done with it. Of course, that's to see in the following episodes if there's any ulterior motive. My guess is that the real killer of Kang Chul's family is the author himself who wanted to make an intriguing story but it ended up eating on his life. If it's like that, I'm fairly fascinated by it. Or it could just be way simpler. XD we'll see.

I must be honest and admit, when i saw this article, I instantly thought that I was going to raise my eyebrows and shake my head because I instantly assumed it was going to be one of those articles that was trying to demonstrate how K-drama is more appreciated than J-dramas for X reason, so I was surprised to see that it was actually trying to bring awareness towards J-drama. This is very nice because, honestly, I have just watched a few Japanese movies and only one J-drama which was Flowers for Algernon till now and I must say that I appreciated them a lot more than I did with most of the k-dramas that I watched. There are a few exceptions, but I always had issues with k-dramas from a writing perspective. Now, I am not trying to throw hate at the k-drama genre, that is not my point, I don't stop anybody from liking what they do, though I do tend to value fiction more on an objective side and try to differentiate entertainment from quality too. K-dramas just don't make the cut for me, so i really appreciate the small "lesson" on J-drama that I got here and I got some potential good titles that I could watch and form a proper opinion of it, instead of continuing to rely on other's opinions. So thank you.

I must say i did not sign for this. I expected simplicity, the story about a master and his cat, without any interference like Na Woo, or the best friend, or the rival or the library boss or whatever. Is it that hard to just develop ONE relationship (masterxpet) and keep it at that? I can't say I wasn't affected by the ending, I love animals, but it was more for Bok Gil than anybody else. Bok Gil is literally the only character that I cared about. It was all supposed to be about HER. :/ And I thought that her voice was adorable. With this i'm going to stop.

Review She Was Pretty Spoiler
I agree, though I did ship them in Kill me Heal me regardless, but I just couldn't see it in this case. Also because the whole drama went against its title/theme. She WAS Pretty somehow turned into She IS Pretty. lol You get this from somebody that dropped it during the episode before the last one. lol

Review Empress Ki
Wow! I was just making my MDL account and trying to remember the stuff I have watched so I started skimming through…
Oh don't you worry, getting discouraged to write my opinions is the last thing that would happen. I agree about bumping up ratings on MDL. To me it's like attempting to cut some slack to certain dramas either because emotional investment or, I don't know, an encouragement? I did hear that explanation. However, to me it's rude to give them a good rating because "welp, you can do better next time". No. Honesty is way more productive than sugarcoating. Even if it's just one rating less. Maybe I'm taking this too seriously, but fiction is serious business to me! XD Anyway, thank you for the nice comment ^^

Review Empress Ki
Since you're openly adressing other viewers of this drama, I'd like to comment on your review. Funnily, while…
Thank you, It's nice to find people like you, that despite disagreeing are able to see other points of views. (yes, I am scarred by many other displeasing experiences lol). I can't hide that I was frustrated at the many good reviews this drama got while the bad parts seemed to be shoved under a carpet, so that's why I might sound particularly salty, which I apologize for. I also must thank you that you just didn't disregard my review, despite being bad and despite being long. ^^

As for spending 51 hours of my life...yes, I did, but does it make sense that I did not consider it a waste? You see, even if something doesn't give me the entertainment that I'm seeking for I think that by continuing to watch it I still keep learning. I am not a k-drama veteran, nor did I even watch more like maybe 20 titles, but I think it's important to consider both the "good" dramas and the "bad" dramas. Later on, it'll be maybe easier to just say "welp, this is not the drama for me. Let's move on". But right now, Empress ki did help. And it was fairly entertaining when it comes to the outline of the story, my main issue comes in-between event A and event B which, to me, made it hard to care even half as much as how I was supposed to ...XD

I once again agree with Yunnlith about the 1-5 rating system being too rigid. But for the rest, yes. Lots of people avoid giving 1-5 ratings, which saddens me and that's the MDL biggest issue. Just that, I also don't usually drop series (unless it started really good till like half drama and then the plot just flies out the window like She was pretty), so I'm not afraid to give 1 or 2 if that's what I think they deserve even if I ended up finishing it. The fact that I managed to finish it, means nothing or adds nothing; 5 is too high of a rating for something that I just ultimately made fun of or only watched because it was entertaining to point everything wrong with it. I am past the time when I watched and valued everything based on enjoyment. Now, it's hard to not look at everything with a critical eye and I realize that this form of enjoyment is something that most people aren't able to understand. I was questioned more than once "why do you watch something that you don't like? Why wasting time and instead watch something that you might truly enjoy?". My answer to that is "Curiosity.". Even if it's bad, what makes it bad? Why don't I like it? What does it miss? I've been accused of "nitpicking" as a consequence, as well. However, I am not a machine. There are things that appeal to me more than appeal to others, so sometimes I can be softer, but still recognizing the "bad" of it instead of being blind and casually use the word "masterpiece" or "great". When a show has a fairly good execution and manages to involve me to the point where I can forgive minor bad details, then that's the story that will get a 10. I think that only happened once in my drama-watching experience. But for anime or other shows it happened more times. My ratings are sometimes worst than the overall exactly because I have no reason to just take what they give me, when I know that they clearly can do more than that. Ultimately, I'm also just pickier.

I agree with Yunnlith. Besides, I will never understand this MDL "rating system" going around. It always striked me as odd why most of the series on MDL have such high ratings, then I find out about this trend of sweetening the pill.Just why?...I think that by being sincere with yourself is actually showing more appreciation towards the staff that worked on that particular drama than blowing the ratings because it's just "nicer". It's sincerity towards them as well. And I'm sure that if they ever come across MDL their feelings won't be hurt. The truth here and behind MDL's way-too-high-ratings is that some fans can't accept reality. And I definitely won't be between the ones that are ready to "lie" to please somebody else. Sorry if it comes out as harsh too.

I really do find something missing from this drama. Shin Hyeok was gold, but the plot literally went no where…
A LOT was missing from this drama. At around episode 10 I started to loose interest and plot hole after plot hole, incoherence after incoherence, inconsistency after inconsistency I just gave this drama a 4. And I don't regret any of it lol I really don't know why the overall rating is so high...

Ahhh... the angst on a drama you watched for 15 hrs and not continue on for the last episode? This totally marred…
I did indeed waste 15 hours, but look at the bright side. I at least didn't waste and suffered for 16 hours XD No, but really, I really tried and I kept getting distracted just because I started to seek comfort in other activities. It was just that painful because I really wanted to believe it was going to be different. :( Maybe when I will cool down in the future, I will finish it, but for now, I just can't be bothered to care.

I enjoyed reading about your struggle because I struggled too while watching it, the difference is I pushed myself…
I really try to not drop anything in general. Anime, tv shows, movies (all types/countries). I like looking at stuff with a critical eye to the point that it became second nature to me to do so and I can definitely say how cinematography and storytelling are two very complex fields that can change your perception in base of how their "tools" are used ( ex: like you might not like a certain clichè, but if used in a certain way it can as well become likeable; I'm always open towards that possibility). I definitely do not count only the enjoyment value so my ratings will generally be lower than the average :)
Besides that, I'm glad to hear that somebody felt my pain during this drama. XD I have too many people on my friend list that told me something above the lines "it was meh...but still..". There's no "but still.." for me when it comes to this drama! I do not plan to ever justify any of it ! *yes, definitely still annoyed*

Am i the only one who dislikes wang yu?
No, I also quite dislike Wang Yu, or more like I don't care about his character at all..which might be even worst? He's one of the most "idealized" characters in Empress Ki up to what I've seen and while clever, he suffers of the "valiant hero/good guy" syndrome who speaks too much and trusts too easily (and among other things)..Or it might be me finding these type of characters generally uninteresting. Anyway, know that you're not alone.
