I feel like this show suffered from censorship as well. They couldn't probably show what they wanted so they implied…
It sure is quite scary the more you think of it. ZCY and ZDS are pretty much parallels of each other. The way ZCY embraced his father after ZJJ died reminded me of the way ZDS embraced his wife when her parents died, and (not) coincidentally, both ZDS and ZCY actually murdered the people their loved ones were mourning over. Also, the scene where ZCY's mother aggresively shoves the glass of milk down his throat reminded of of a scene in one of the earlier episodes in which ZDS gulped down his bottle of water in one go. The audience is practically hinted multiple times that ZCY is ZDS's childhood and ZDS is ZCY's future self. The only difference is ZCY is way more terrifying.
I have to disagree. Jiang Yang is a justice upholder, and this character of his is etched in his blood. It doesn't matter whether Li Jing begged him to investigate Hou Guiping's case or not. He would always be Jiang Yang, the justice upholder. Even if he never met Hou Guiping's case, he would encounter similar cases in the future because it's literally his job. The moment he decided to study law, his future's destined.
The remote control was part of what Jiang Yang used to kill himself. If Yan Liang didn't return it to them, they would have to face more years in prison, as it's illegal in China to encourage suicide. Although technically they didn't encourage Jiang Yang to commit suicide, they knew about it and didn't stop him.
it's one hell of a sad heartrendering crime drama! Why is it called THE LONG NIGHT!
The original novel is called 长夜难明,which roughly translates to Long Night Difficult to see Light. It's a 成语, or idiom that describes somebody or something under darkness's domination that lasts for a very long time. This depicts Jiang Yang and other characters in the story who struggle to overcome darkness (injustice and societal corruption).

Yup, they deleted some scenes to pass censorship. The mother of Zhu Jingjing's actress leaked the script of the original ending scene, and it's actually so much better than the ending scene we got. Here it goes:
Ye Jun: (out of the frame) And what happens after? When Zhu Jingjing slipped off the window, what did you do? - Zhu Chaoyang collects himself and throws a glance at the police officers surrounding him. Zhu Chaoyang: I just... I just rushed to the window immediately, hoping to be able to grab her. - Ye Jun nods his head, motioning for Zhu Chaoyang to execute exactly what happened. - Zhu Chaoyang looks at the window and slowly walks toward it. Behind him, police officers with cameras take pictures. Click, click, click. - Camera slowly carries out of the window, revealing Zhu Jingjing dangling on the edges of the windowsill, hopelessly looking at Zhu Chaoyang. - Zhu Chaoyang stares at Zhu Jingjing and slowly gives her his hand. - Zhu Jingjing holds on tight to Zhu Chaoyang's hand. - Zhu Chaoyang looks at Zhu Jingjing, and Zhu Jingjing looks at Zhu Chaoyang. - On the windowsill sits a cooing white dove. - All of a sudden, Zhu Chaoyang lets go of Zhu Jingjing's hand. Zhu Jingjing screams (out of the frame). - The white dove flaps its wings and flies away. Everything was dead silent, leaving Zhu Chaoyang's dangling hands trembling on the windowsill.
-The end-
Personally, I believe the white dove has a similar implication as the lizard that crawled on the stone when Zhang Dongsheng pushed his in-laws off the mountain.
As for CQL stans, I'm 100% positive that a fanwar would begin if they keep bringing up CQL here.
I agree with the CQL fans part though, because they do be annoying on HYX related stuff.
