as someone who has read both novels, they're quite different. i would say the only thing they have in common is the romance between teacher and disciple.

Scenes in which I cried my heart out: Qiao Yingzi attempting suicide, Lin Lei'er crying because his phone's shattered, Lin Lei'er listening to his mom's voice messages, Ji Yangyang revealing his bald head to his family, Qiao Yingzi's parents showing their daughter their real marriage certificates, and the last episode where the parents gather together to celebrate their kids moving to university and flashbacks appear.
Unexpectedly, this drama is really good! As an Asian kid, I grew up experiencing exactly what Qiao Yingzi experienced, so I see a reflection of myself in her and the pain just becomes 100x worse. Judging from the title, you would think that this drama is just some everyday slice-of-life cute family drama, but it's actually the opposite. I can't even recall the amount of times I have bawled my eyes out for all three families. All the pain and struggles of each family were so realistic and relatable. This drama is definitely an underrated gem.
