I mean Chen Yao isn't really a newbie (a lot of people really started liking her from Wuxin the Monster Killer in 2015.) I haven't started this drama but her acting in Wuxin was really great, and she's usually had pretty good performances.

There are actually a lot of schemes (spoilers here: Chen Pingping's whole sort of "brainwashing" on Xiao En in order to make sure he tells his secret to Fan Xian; Second Prince being the actual person who wants Fan Xian dead, not the Crown Prince; also Chen Pingping setting the whole trap to catch who the Eldest Princess's spy in the overwatch council is) but yes, there aren't nearly as many in NiF. But wow Chen Pingping is so smart.

I really hope they don't go off that because I love Ruoruo and Fan Xian's sibling dynamic. I love their whole family really!

I don't think it's nearly as good as NiF (that one is pretty legendary) but if you liked NiF then you'll most likely like this drama. It's really smart, touching and funny.

When I first saw the trailer I thought this would be a really mediocre production but wow was I wrong. The sets are so pretty and the CGI is passable (which is rarely seen in cdramas nowadays).

Honestly I have such differing opinions on Ju Jingyi. 1. she is really pretty and I feel like if she found a good script she could actually be really successful (like Song Weilong isn't the best actor either, especially in terms of like voice acting, but with good scripts he's managed to become one of my favorites anyways) but 2. yeah her acting is boring. It relies too much on like silly expressions (Yunxi) or just no expression. If she improved a little I feel like she could be so much more successful because she does have so many fans, and if she presents one tolerable work to the table, then it'll definitely be very popular.

Honestly I don't want a love triangle because ugh I really want Ziqiu to just be happy. Also I feel like he likes Jianjian in more of a family way, like he really just wants her to be happy.

I felt so bad too! But at least she loves both as they grow up. I think she didn't like Ziqiu because she thought he was trying to steal his dad or something.

I know Wuzhu is a machine but was it ever said in the drama. I'm really concerned that somehow I just missed an entire scene.

Xiao Feng isn't exactly the smartest character. She wouldn't think that far into the future because she doesn't care about marrying or court politics or whatever. She just wants to forget her love for Li Chengyin and how can she do that? By jumping into the river of forgetfulness.

not plot wise, just in terms of the melodrama. It feels super betrayal heavy .

I wasn't that excited for this before because two idol actors isn't the most intriguing premise (even though Xiao Zhan's not bad at acting) but Wang Juan (aka the writer of Young Blood and Joy of Life) is the scriptwriter so I'm a little excited.

Why do I get Ashes of Love and Goodbye My Princess vibes from the trailer?

1. Tan Songyun still looks like she's around 18 or 20
2. There are younger actresses but they aren't as good as Tan Songyun. The only other girl that could handle this type of character is Zhao Lusi, but this drama definitely requires acting chops, and while Lusi is good, she's not nearly as good as Tan Songyun.

Surprisingly fun watch, but I really wish they didn't do eliminations.

I honestly have no idea why the scriptwriter is getting so much hate. Like, the characters were written really well and with the amount of people that ship Zhou Xun and Xiaoguo I would say the romance was good too.
