I don't know about Netflix's schedule for this drama because I only follow Youku's one which I am subscribed to.

because they are prioritizing the original source platform of this drama which is Youku, for more specific reason it's a marketing strategy so that Youku can get more profits and credit knowing how popular the past drama adaptation HL from the same author had gotten before, so they made Netflix secondary.

I think most or some people truly never tried to put themselves in Wen Yi Fan's point of view and understand why she is currently the way she is. Although I have not read the novel but having grasped all current aired episodes, in my opinion 'First Frost' leans to a much more mature type of romance. Although they do show us flashbacks of their high school scenes, this drama isn't meant to entirely be a youthful love. Wen Yi Fan the female lead suffers traumatic experiences throughout almost all her life ever since the lost of her father, she was treated coldly and devoid of love at such a young age with barely anyone to lean on.

The last person whom she wanted to resort to was her mother but she got ditched out and was left to the awful relatives that mistreated her. She experienced a lot of terrible things growing up, those things that happened to her left a scar in her heart and mind that never healed, she carried it until her adulthood hence she grew into the woman she is now...and the most important thing to know is that it wasn't only love that she lost but it was also herself. There were many notable scenes during earlier episodes which shows and hints to Wen Yi Fan's current state of mind. She is too scarred to think about what is best for her right now as she never really found closure to everything that had happened to her in the past nor did she ever get to heal and soothe her pain. All she ever did was survive each day, get through it by wearing a facade. It's actually not hard to pay attention and notice these details about her, if you care to put yourself in her shoes, like try to understand her character. People like her who lost herself after having faced the cruel world takes a lot of time before they can be able to step up and open their hearts again to the world.

Also, there were certain scenes that hints about Wen Yi Fan's feelings towards Sang Yan. If you paid close enough attention, then you'd know she is interested in him however she doesn't realize it herself yet and she still thinks she is undeserving of all the good and best things.

I suggest you do give this one a try regardless of what reason you want to start this. Try first five episodes. Just note that this is a new type of xianxia, well new in a sense that for once the main leads didn't have to go through the arduous torture of constant misunderstandings but rather were established to have a healthy relationship. Another thing is that this is more female-centric.

I haven't read the novel but base from the drama, the time sets in a much earlier period. To put it simply it happens around the time when Sang Zhi is in her youth and is still admiring Duan Jia Xu.

that's good that you already did! well the special episode was rather a hopeful conclusion, the characters who died were hinted to be resurrected again so in the end they somewhat still ended up getting a second chance in life.

I do agree that the deaths of everyone but the main leads were a bit too much but at the same time I find that it did tie well with the narrative of the story and these deaths weren't merely 'death for the sake of dying' but were rather significant and each held their own meaning. Each of these supporting characters had carried their own story arcs and I found them pivotal. I wonder if you have watched the special episode already?

This should have honestly been expected because in the first place drama adaptations had long been prone to deviating a bit from the novel, sometimes it has to do with the limited number of episodes other times it's merely production and directors choice. A drama adaptation can never be a complete and absolute copy of a novel, so I truly think this drama has been already doing great as an adaptation because I have seen other drama adaptations that turned for the worst.
