She has suffered a lot and it must have been so tough to push through having such kind of life experiences, which is why I admire her resilience in picking herself up and braving through the storms of life, no matter what it throws her way. She is a strong person, this is how I see her as she is definitely not weak minded, however, strong people get tired and crumble too.
Having watched all of the released episodes what struck me the most was the conversation with her in Xiang Lang's car. When he questioned why she seems so closed off and distant. This question might not be a big deal for others but it is a big deal for those in this position. Once you go through this life struggles you can never go back to the 'old you'. You can only choose to face reality with a mask on your face. Wen Yi Fan has been like this, she has constantly worn a mask on her face everyday hiding her scars and pain away.
Some might say that she could have gotten all through it if she just opened herself up to her friends or even Sang Yan at this point in her life, but that is not entirely true and 'opening up' showing your scars is the most difficult thing to do for people like Wen Yi Fan who grew up into an adult that learned the hard way that there is no one reliable in this world she could rest her tired heart on. Thus, I understand as well why she decided to push Sang Yan away from her life and think that he deserves better than her.
They say that dreams are the windows to a person's subconscious mind, the scene when Wen Yi Fan was sleep walking and dreamt of the sun painted what she truly crave for. A warm, safe and reliable place where she could rest her tired heart and heal her scars - and it just so happens that she ended up hugging Sang Yan. I find this scene to be very significant as it wasn't just simply about them having a sweet moment but it was rather symbolic of their fated connection.

So I suggest for you to watch the first few episodes instead of trusting the ratings or merely relying on others opinions as at the end of the day we all have different perspectives and preferences ; you might miss out on a good drama just because you didn't give it a chance.
This drama is different from Hidden Love, you can already consider it as another drama. Sang Yan from Hidden Love is just a character who is made to be Sang Zhi's elder brother and Duan Jia Xu's friend, he was only constricted into such writing so we only got to see his playful sides, however, The First Frost focuses more about who the actual Sang Yan truly is, so it is no wonder he is far different from the Sang Yan in Hidden Love because there is now more depth to him and this revolves around his life story.
