Not The Untamed related but MXTX related: *inserts plug for MXTX lol* I've read the entirety of Heaven's Official Blessing and am in the middle of the Scum Villain's Self-Saving System and omg what can I say except MXTX is such a genius writer for coming up with such complicated plots!! Although to be honest, I did not like HOB as much as I thought I would mainly because the story logic is extremely complicated so I wasn't exactly sure what was going on the whole time heheheh...BUT SVSSS is really good so far and the story is the least complicated out of the 3 novels but still highly interesting! I recommend y'all check them out.
Exact same! I finally forced myself to look into other works other than The Untamed, and I managed to get into…
I'm on Ch 158! In terms of personality and charisma, WWX=HC and LWJ=XL, but in terms of behavior, WWX=XL and LWJ=HC, so I guess I can't really say why I feel that way lol. So far XL has many fight scenes that I think Yibo would look good acting if he were to play XL. HC is not as physically active but more mentally active and better at "sleight of hand" moves which I think maybe would work better for Xiao Zhan. But I understand your perspective too. I guess both ways work haha.
Just started reading Heaven Official’s Blessing from the same author as this one. I just want to say, the author…
Exact same! I finally forced myself to look into other works other than The Untamed, and I managed to get into reading HOB. I agree with you in that the styles are similar and I can't help but compare the two stories. Although I differ from you in that I see Xiao Zhan as Hua Cheng and Yibo as Xie Lian instead. Interesting! As a side note, I saw very briefly the mention of the number 33 in HOB (I forgot where but it was in an early chapter) and as we know 33 appeared in MDZS so I am curious if this number has special meaning to MXTX...
If you are new to Chinese dramas, The Untamed is for sure not to watch as it contains many metaphors which translated…
"I like very expressive people and a good (deep) script. And I cannot find both in The Untamed."
...But like how can you come to a conclusion that The Untamed doesn't have expressive people and a good deep script just based on the 3 episodes you watched? Was the very first scene not deep (literally and figuratively lool)?
And side note: another reason people are gushing over Xiao Zhan is because of his ability to act out a vaaast variety of expressive facial expressions :)
Why would people give this drama high score just bc bl subtext when no other actual bl drama been rated this high....
It makes logical sense to me....they're saying that there are numerous BL dramas, yet this is the only one rated so high, so that means there has to be something else other than the BL themes that makes its rating so high.
Is this a good series with a good story or is this just something people drool over because of the good looking…
I read a quote somewhere that says the looks of the actors are what gets you to start a drama, but the story is what gets you to continue watching. Ultimately it is the story that captivates the audience the most. You can look good, but if you can't act then no one will enjoy your performance. So no, this is a good drama NOT because of the good looks, but rather the beautiful story it tells. Since you mentioned that you only barely started this drama, I would recommend watching it further before deciding if the story is engaging or not.
I've never watched a "historical" chinese drama but I've been seeing a lot of posts about this on the feed and…
I would barely count this drama as historical! It is not based on any historical story or character nor does it take place during any dynasties. It is far different from the typical 60+ episode chinese dramas. Fantasy would be a little closer to the genre!
And I don't think I need to elaborate on how good it is lol (you can judge based on the ratings and reviews!). The dubbing is extremely smooth, and it is the best dubbing I have seen so far. The voice actors really did an amazing job.
As much as i adore this series i keep thinking how it left me with so many question marks.. like does he get what…
I think the beauty of leaving the audience with questions is letting us interpret the story in our own ways. For example, I don't need a definite answer for what shijie wanted to say before she died because I can make a guess based on what I know about her character and her relationship with Wei Wu Xian. Stuff like that I think can help you dive deeper in the story with your imagination! But I get that other people may prefer it to be more direct and straightforward.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuOXOeBvELM (There are spoilers in this video so pls watch the drama first) A video by AvenueX explaining her opinions on the real villain of The Untamed that I can really agree with. No matter if you watch the drama for the love, the action, or the looks, another thing you can watch it for is its valuable life lessons. The Untamed has so many themes that are applicable to real life and this is the first drama that has really taught me a lesson. It may sound cheesy but I really think watching this drama made me a better person, or want to become a better person. Wei Wu Xian's line about the significance of saying "Thank you" and "I'm sorry" is one of my favorites because what he says is just so damn true.
I was thinking may be one of our chinese speaking friends here could post some kind of small tutorial or message…
If you're referring to the app there is a way to turn most things into english within the app. Besides the names of the accounts everything else will pretty much be english. I would totally create a screenshot tutorial if I had time
Both Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo have agreed to attend.
Yea I saw news about that too and yea apparently it was 后会无期. I think because technically the Untamed ended so long ago that there shouldn't be anything more about it so it was a way for the company to officially end everything, even more because it's based off a BL. I mean they can't keep promoting it forever, there has to be an end at some point. I read from a gossip channel that it was a way for the company to try to break off the WangXian real life CP, and allegedly that caused anger amongst bjyx fans. Personally I think it was just to officially depart from CQL. In the future if Xiao Zhan and Yi Bo attend events/shows together they would be appearing as themselves and not representatives of CQL anymore.
I just read that there will be an Untamed concert in Korea in 2020?! *gasp*
There is so much news released everyday that it's hard to keep up lol! From the rumors I have read our two leads MAY appear in many more shows/events like Back to Field (向往的生活) and Keep Running (奔跑吧). I don't think anything is set yet but here's hoping!!! Fingers crossed
Personally, I think, you do not have to know anything about chinese culture, to appreciate this drama. After all,…
I understand Chinese so I watched without subtitles! I did however turn on subs occasionally to check the translation and I agree that there are translations that did not convey the meaning very well. But yea Chinese is pretty hard to translate, so there are definitely some stuff lost in translation. The general meaning is there, but often it's the tones that get lost. It's the mood of the words/phrases that is hardest to translate.

Avenuex does a series on HotpotTV and she did a couple of videos on the Untamed including one about names. Hope you find this helpful!
