Whether it's autism or having an eccentric behavior, directors and dramas always gravitate to portraying mathematicians or scientists usually physicists this way. Why is that? Why stick with these stereotypes. I'm saying this as I also have a degree in mathematics and I don't recall having classmates and professors acting this way. Mostly normal people, a lot of arrogant and pompous people who think they are better than they are, plenty of reclusive ones like myself etc. but the Rain Man types aren't populating the math department as people like to believe.

There are 5 screenwriters in the credits. I wonder which genius thought of that train wreck ending and leaving an unsatisfactory and ending full of falsities or is that how it was written in the novel? I've read the screenwriters have taken a lot of liberties in comparison to the original material. I noticed that this drama, despite the cut scenes, was clearly and purposely written and filmed in such a way to illicit and make the audience believe of romantic relationships between the male leads.

How could they have cleared his name when the empress was also the instigator of the spying conspiracy. With another lie and cover up? It was a ridiculous ending and for all that talk of saving lives a lot of people still died in the end because her son and the true heir wanted revenge. The reason that happen is because the bootlicking ministers including the ML never confronted her during her regency and in the end they actually saved her reputation by not exposing her crimes. His dad was exonerated by another bold faced lie. It was a mockery of justice.

I don't agree with the recommendation of this being similar to A League of Nobleman. Even the garbage ending of that drama it's still miles better than this one in terms of balancing the personalities of the characters and limiting overdone acting. Everyone here irritates me. No offense but this drama feels so vulgar and poor taste. That's not an attack on the provincial and rural setting or the lack of esthetics in the drama. It is the atmosphere and having characters that have no sense of duty, elegance, propriety and decorum.

The crazy and eccentric mathematician act is so overdone . I wish they'd showcase more varied personalities when it comes to playing this role. The story is also boring as hell.

And an impostor one at that. Can you ever believe these two duo in the future imperial court talking about integrity, honesty and justice. It will be the most hypocritical conversation ever.

I knew after the flashback scene talking about vacuous and empty virtues like performing the greater good and choosing the lesser of two evils that this drama was going downhill and we'd end up with a cop out and whitewash ending.

I actually thought Liu Xiu Yi as Royal Uncle who is brother of the late emperor would be the one to replace the fake emperor in the end. Nope he does not show up.

Really! lesser of two evils. What a pitiful excuse to justify this grey ending. Everyone seem contented in the end to play the charade that justice was done. They could have easily made an ending were the conspirators both past and present would get their due but no. What we got was everything covered up with lies and the real truth just put aside.

So the ending was the empress crimes were not exposed. The truth of the conspiracy was covered up. The people who died because of the conspiracy would never get true and honest justice. And an impostor is on the throne. There is not a single honorable and honest person left in this drama in the end.

What a lousy ending! Did they have to make it look like they where trying to excuse the crimes of the evil b*tch. After everything that happened that was the ending they covered everything with lies. WTH was that!

Wang Yan and Lan Jue friendship and chemistry is the best and most natural in this drama. Lan Jue towards Zhang Ping feels more like noblesse oblige than a sincere connection. Even the emperor is more informal to Zhang Ping than Lan Jue.

Great to see Du Chun back in historical.

This is so presumptuous, misinform, and just plain personal opinion.

I had the same thought a few weeks ago when I was watching Blood of Youth and I went here planning to post a comment wanting Li Hong Yi and Cheng Yi in a drama. Anyway I decided against it because I thought it was inappropriate to demand when Li Hong Yi is not relevant to this drama. They would be the most believable brother pairing in C-drama. Thanks for bringing this up.

So many irrelevant recommendations. I don't see the connection of these other dramas save for most of them implying some sort of relationship with the male leads. Some really lazy and poorly thought comparisons. If there was a recent drama I could think similar to this it would be Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty.

Episodes don't seem to have a consistent running time. I wonder if there were scenes that ended up in the editing floor or these days , in the recycle bin.

I don't like Song Wei Long's character. He reminds me so much of that gossipy neighbor that wants to know and divulge every secret in town. Too nosy, too clever for his own good and too naive for my liking. Great detective skills but somehow unable to read the overall picture.

Episode 35 has to be the most ridiculous ambush scene ever. Did a single Zhaoding bureau officer even die? Never mind they made Yu Zun just an accessory and spectator of the fight scene.

I like their pairing in My Dear Guardian.
