I agree at some point it became too much and you start to really question why she wouldn't just tell him the truth. I reasoned that it was because she was in too deep and too much in 'love' with him to face the reality that perhaps he only loved her filters and wouldn't be interested in her real identity. FL is insecure due to her past biases against him and thought there would be no way that he would fall in love with her as it is. But that's where Tang Qi is golden. He not only doesn't want revenge against her, he starts to understand and see things from her perspective. He chases her like he chased her filters, proving to her that he loved her and not her filters.
We share the same sentiments about literally EVERY single plot point. My biggest gripe is with the stupid illusion sequence as well. CX was such a good character. I wanted to see him go absolutely nuts. It was building towards it. Why pour cold water on us and make it into a dream sequence. It's absolutely vile. Of course, they would blame it on his wife because according to Chinese censors, it's okay to vilify a jealous woman than to see an insanely, obsessive and jealous emperor.
My other main gripe with season two is the weird portrayal of XL and XY's relationship. You would think, with their decision to film certain scenes (red wedding robes, the painting of XY's mother and father turning into XL and XY etc.)/ edit other scenes (CX following XY and TSJ on their journey to meet the King of Beasts etc), that their intension was to show how XY chooses differently from her mother. She does not choose love. She loves XL but chooses Jing and spends the rest of her life missing XL. However, instead, they choose to blurry her feelings towards him to make it seem like perhaps, she didn't really love him much at all. She only loved TSJ. It made absolutely NO SENSE. Then they choose to make TSJ a complete wet mop of a character so you get no satisfaction any way you look at it.
