I share your "slightly pleased" sentiment about the OTP's finale. But is it so hard to choreograph a realistic,…
Couldn't agree more! They were fine in CSL but they were pretty awkward in this drama. I gave it a pass during the early parts of the drama since Goo Haera was supposed to be uncomfortable with the guy who she thought attempted to kill her sister. But the ending hug was too... distant? But I'm just comforting myself that it must be because it was the first time they met after a year, and Haera is still pretty guilty about things so... But I got pretty sad when I realized that was all we're going to get from these two and I don't think it's possible for them to be in another drama again.
The ending was fine, but it just supported everyone's frustration that the drama took too many twists and turns just to get to that point. But I just realized that I'm a sucker for the Joo Sangwook-Lee Minjung OTP that no matter how much I believe that they should NOT reunite, I still found myself slightly pleased when Tae Injoon was still a Goo Haera idiot. Lol
With the Yiheon-Haseon conflict finally out of sight, the story is finally shifting to the "real" conflict, which is dealing with Shin Chisoo who is doubly harmful with his nothing-to-lose desperation to get rid of Haseon. But I just don't have enough energy to deal with him just yet so I'm really happy to see some heart-fluttering romance on episode 9.
But aside from Shin Chisoo killing all informants (which I honestly don't know how Chief Secretary even had doubts as to whoever distributed the posters when the informant immediately went to Shin Chisoo to spill what he knows in exchange of 12 yangs. This is on top of Mooyoung's 24/7 spying on Shin Chisoo's place), episode 9 was pretty much uneventful, or more like the build-up before the drama starts breaking hearts again, lol.
Also, now that Chief Secretary is already set on having Haseon as king, I wonder why they're not officially teaching him hanja characters. I don't really think this is an important aspect, but this might just stab them in the back later on. Who knows, with the enemies just waiting for him to make a single mistake. And lastly, I hate how Dalrae seems to be the winning piece of whichever side finds her. She became the compelling reason why Haseon decided to take on the throne, but she might just be the same person who will throw him off of it. I'm not saying it's illogical (it's perfectly logical since Haseon's character is built on his love for his family and friends) but I just dislike it when a show uses characters as mere plot devices. Or it's more of me hating the fact that nobody from Haseon's side is looking for her hard enough, or that Gapsoo seems to have forgotten that Haseon went to the palace as the king's double, or did he really not know?
Yiheon's "Why did you give up on me?" just broke me. The last few minutes of episode 8 were full of Yiheon's vulnerabilities. He was well aware that his hurtful past made him the paranoid distrusting King that he is. Even during his father's last moments, he was being hated on, and I always wondered what it was about. And it's painful to finally find out that his father hated him merely for being born. That's why when he succeeded the throne, he only did it out of spite, which made him wary of everyone and susperct that everybody wants to take the throne away from him — even his father didn't think he deserved it. But when they were on the beach, he was finally looking forward into something. He looked forward to a new world where he'all actually be a part of. Thinking about it, he didn't really want to lead; he just wanted to be part of something. Which made it even more painful to know that even in the new world that the Chief Secretary wants to achieve, he won't even be a part of it. "Do you really think it's possible without me?" It was meant to be a sarcastic question, which turned out to be a sad one. It made him feel like nobody truly needed him, not even the Chief Secretary whom he treated as his father. The punishment he wished for those who betrayed him, to have them beaten up, torn limb to limb, and burned – that was probably the pain he felt after finding out that the person he trusted the most betrayed him.
And as much as I love Chief Secretary for his ideals, I strongly disagree that choosing the nation meant giving up on Yiheon. I was especially looking forward with Yiheon's character development as he had the greatest potential. and I hoped that he'd actually team up with Haseon and overcome their enemies. I'll definitely leave it to the drama gods as to how it will be from here, but they really broke my heart with this one. :(
This is the first Yeo Jingoo drama I have watched and I found him good since the beginning of the drama. But what really amazed me the most, especially in the most recent episode, is how the scenes were switching from the real King to Haseon, and I could tell that they're two different characters.
The other actors in this drama are carrying their own weights as well. Everyone is well-cast, just like how it was with Mr. Sunshine. This drama is definitely one for the books.
Episodes 29-30 just makes you realize how dangerous an angry dumb bi*ch is. Lol I'm terribly frustrated with how…
Okay so I just finished watching episodes 31 and 32 and I feel like what happened here should have happened around 8 episodes ago. I get that it took them this long so the pivot of Injoon's character would be much more impactful, but they dragged it far too long that people stopped caring and just want to get it over and done with. It still doesn't change the fact that I want everyone to not end up with anybody because somehow they all deserve that. (It occurred to me that this is like the makjang version of Cunning Single Lady where they were both great together but ended up wanting to get revenge on each other then realizing in the end that they were both wrong, lol. But at least CSL was a fun watch.)
Episodes 29-30 just makes you realize how dangerous an angry dumb bi*ch is. Lol I'm terribly frustrated with how Goo Hera went from street smart to just plain and frustratingly gullible. She takes everything that Jungho's mother says without even being slightly skeptic about it. At this point, I realized that Soohyun is the only one who genuinely cares for Injoon but Injoon is also too dumb to see that so I'd rather have the show end with nobody ending up with each other. Nobody deserves each other tbh, and it's frustrating the crap of me since the show just lost all the reasons why I started watching this. The cinematography isn't even nice anymore, with the overuse of the slanted shots. Or maybe this is me nitpicking because I am so frustrated with everything but I can't even make myself drop this because I just want to see everyone get ruined. I've never been an angry watcher, until now. And for the wrong reasons, lol.
Loved this to bits!! It was a pretty neat wrap up of the series since the last episode did leave the viewers wanting for more. Though I still don't understand why there wasn't at least a kiss between Hajime and Kahoko. :( But I still love them nevertheless. I just hope Mitsuki Takahata and Takeuchi Ryoma reunite in another drama where they don't have to be as "innocent" lol.
I started this show on a whim because I wanted to watch a currently airing show that I DIDN'T want to binge watch…
I also feel the same about the pairing. I am a sucker for love lines in dramas but I think this drama would have done well even without two main leads ending up together. The love triangle's chemistry translated more as platonic to me, and I mean that in a good way.
This wasn't originally in my to-watch list but I just finished binge-watching Signal so I needed to watch something light and decided to give this a go. Currently on episode 8 and I'm surprised by how much I'm loving this. I just wished the antagonist was a bit more mature and intelligent. I also work in an office so I liked the office set-up, and it would have been great if the CEO was a bit more mature so they could have made the office setting of the drama a bit more realistic (despite the whole idea of the drama being based on a fantasy time loop trope). After all, they were actually dealing with real life issues, especially of those working in corporate offices. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying the drama as it is and based on the previous comments, this seems enjoyable until the end. Off to another binge-watching session!
This was such a good watch! As if I needed another reason to love So Jisub even more. I binge-watched this show after watching the Korean version of Be With You and friggin hell I want So Jisub to go get married and have his own babies right away!! I don't know how he does it but So Jisub definitely perfected the gentleman aura. He can be so gentle AND manly at the same time. Okay, so by now I'm just really spazzing bout this guy lol. But the story was quite nice too, with the perfect balance of suspense with it being a spy drama, and humor. The cast was perfect for their role too, from our main cast down to the neighborhood ajummas and one-episode characters. Loved every bit of this drama. <3
Episode 15 was sooo itchy to watch. I just couldn't wait for Jung Yihyun's tantrums to be over. Thinking about it, I guess the whole show was actually built on Mizar throwing tantrums, lol. Though I get that they have a backstory they tried to get across and I'm pretty much biased so I got all feels for Bausae/Kim Kimi, I just can't help but roll my eyes when it's Mizar/Professor Jung getting all angsty and such.
I've just started watching Mr. Sunshine and being the Kim Jiwon fan that I am, I was pleased (and definitely satisfied) with her cameo in the Netflix series which brought me to this page. And I just realized how lovely the line up of this production is – the cast, the writers and the director. Korean historical dramas have always been a hit or miss for me (most of the times a miss since whenever I feel like watching something historical, I stumble upon Chinese historical dramas which drains my historical drama tolerance by the end of it, lol). But I am definitely looking forward to this one! Though I still can't imagine how the chemistry will be between Joongki and Jiwon since they kinda look similar to me that they could pass off as siblings, but we'll see. Can't wait!
Wow, I'm surprised with how good the first 2 episodes were. I liked the leads as the bickering couple in the rom-com Cunning Single Lady so I didn't really expect they'd be able to pull the melodrama vibes off but dang, they're good! Hope the plot develops well and it doesn't turn out into the usual makjang.
I don't understand how this drama has a rating below 8.0. I've been using ratings here in MDL as my basis for watching but good thing I love Moon Chaewon enough to try this drama out, and I'm really loving it. I think the story works around its premise really well. It's mix of fantasy with reality goes really well that sometimes I am starting to believe that fairies and immortals might actually be real... lol. Also, I'm aboard the Kim Kimi x Seon Ok Nam ship, not really because of the husband thingy, but because he accepted fairy-nim and everything she is the moment they met. <3
