THAT'S IT!!!! I'm putting this drama on hold until it's completed and subtitled... Imagine doing a guild's raid…
Lol, I had the exact same thoughts!! Wanted to put this drama on hold after watching ep 38 since it's still the calm before the storm but I found myself watching episodes 39 and 40 the following day. Lol
I've watched all 3 major adaptations of HanaDan and Meteor Garden has always been at the top of my list. Learning about this remake 2 years ago made me really excited and I had high expectations mostly because film technology now is much better than it was in 2001. And I could say that cinematography-wise, it is a lot better, but what I love most about this version is that the characters have much more substance now.
Starting off with our main girl Shancai. I'm actually satisfied that her parents aren't working their asses of to pay her school tuition just because they wanted her to marry off to some wealthy dude. They still like Daoming Si now particularly because he's Daoming Feng's son, but they actually anchor their favorable feelings for the guy based on the impression he made on them, which is courteous and nice (he's very polite to her parents, even Shancai is surprised lol). Shancai actually wants to study in Ming De University because of her dream to help her mom's business.
Moving on to our boys, I am also really happy with how the drama established F4's popularity in school, which did not come from them being heirs of 4 big conglomerates. They are actually good at their own fields (Daoming Si even bragging that he's paying for his own tuition!). With China banning some of the premises like excessive bullying and the focus on disparity of social status based on wealth, the drama worked on the more important aspects of the story. Given that this is a teen idol drama based on a manga written more than 2 decades ago, there are still questionable and shallow parts. But I think they did well on modernizing the story without losing its backbone.
The acting of the cast is still something they could work on, but entirely forgivable considering that this is probably everyone's first major TV station drama. I find Didi very adorable though. Which makes it hard for me to board the Huaze Lei ship. I could still remember how my family and friends argued back then as to who Shancai should choose between Daoming Si and Lei. Lol.
Overall, I think it's pretty obvious that I am loving this version but the original will always hold a special place in my heart. <3
I really like this drama and all its cuteness. Didn't really give Deng Lun much thought in Princess Agents probably coz I didn't like his wig there, hahaha. But I didn't know he actually looks cute. :( Love both their acting.
But it feels like nearly halfway through, the writers are starting to get lazy and are starting to use all the romcom tropes to get some angst. Still in for the ride though, can't give up the fluffy romance.
Loving this drama to bits! At first, Ethan's face with his bun hair looked pretty weird to me, especially when he smiles, lol. But he really does grow on you every episode.
I also loved Eternal Love which is why I gave this a shot, and while they both have their charms, I am thoroughly enjoying this one. At least for now since the angsty scenes haven't really started yet. I just love how the main leads are really playful so watching them is indeed enjoyable. Can't wait for the next episodes!
I've seen the three major remakes of HYD, and idk why but Meteor Garden has always been my favorite. It's been around 2 years since the first teaser announcement of this remake, and now it's just a few weeks before its premier so I'm hell excited already! Not to mention Shen Yue's in it. I'll probably miss her screen time with Hu Yitian (sobs) but I've seen few of the teasers/fantaken vids and photos and she also seems to have good chemistry with the male lead. I've also heard that Ni Yao De Ai and Qing Fei Dei Yi will still be part of the remake's OST. Hope this turns out as perfect as we all hope it to be. <3
I'll just imagine that this is Kang Piljoo and Kang Doo's reincarnation and they're finally free from all the angst..... LOL Definitely a must-watch for me!!
Seeing his cameo on Hwayugi made me so happy. I don't follow his works anymore after You're Beautiful (since I personally think he got a little too strange for my liking, lol) but I'm still looking forward to seeing him in a really good project in the future. And even though his long hair looks quite fine on him, I'm still waiting for the day he cuts it short. Heh heh.
This drama looks so ordinary but it hits all the right spots and just makes you feel everything it wants you to feel. I'm not a fan of angst but this one right here makes me masochistic, lol. I really hope it continues what it does well, and does not become draggy towards the end. But I'll probably stick to it til the end anyway. T___T
The same production team created the Reply series you might as well go check it outReply 1998 - Very fast pacedReply…
Thanks! I was already a kdrama fan by the time the Reply series came out, but I don't know why I kept skipping on them. But after watching Prison Playbook, I finally have a compelling reason to give it a go. :)
This is probably, and easily, one of the best series I've watched, Western and Asian combined. It's patterned like the Western series such that while there is a central theme in each episode, all the episodes combined together make up a solid mini-series. It's fun to watch, the balance between the angst and humor is perfectly done. The characters and the narrative of their pre-and during prison life is also well-executed. But even though it has a Western series pattern, it still has the charm that usual Kdramas have. I'm just really satisfied with this series, I'm looking forward to seeing the writer's future dramas because of this.
I'm having a hard time feeling Oh Yeonseo here. I really have a thing against actresses who constantly have this wide-eyed reaction all the time, and Oh Yeonseo seems to have this expression like aaaaaaall the time, it gets to my nerves every time I see her on screen (which is like most of the time??? lol) But the drama has Lee Seunggi and Chae Seungwon in it so I'll keep this drama, at least for now.
So I was nonchalantly scrolling until I saw Sakaguchi Kentaro in number 4 and Yamazaki Kento in number 3 and I was wondering who the heck would be number 1 then, and I was a lot pleased to see Takeuchi Ryoma. His role in Kahogo no Kahoko is still one of my favorite drama characters and I would love to see more of him and his walking sunshine vibe. Buuuut Kentaro will always hold a special place in my heart. Just felt the need to mention that, haha!
Also, can anybody share with me Takahashi Issei's popular movies/dramas? I feel like I've watched one of his dramas, but I can't remember where (and not remembering makes me feel itchy). I tried checking his movie and drama lists here on MDL but none of it rings a bell. T___T
This sounds so random but the thing I like best about Korea is their ice cream. Hahaha! I could still remember my first Melona ice cream stick, and my first cheesecake Pangtoa ice cream sandwich, and I seriously don't understand what is it with Korea and how do they make such yummy ice cream. :(
So so so happy to see this dorama on the Currently Watching feature! One of the most entertaining dramas I have watched, yet it still has that realistic punch that most J-doramas boast about. This drama hit home and has become one of my all-time favorites! <3
Since Princess Agents ended, I've been getting my hands on whatever Lin Gengxin goodies there can be. I'm basically a Lin Gengxin trash now. What do I do
This was actually a good movie, though! I was actually surprised. Nothing /really/ special about it, but kind of connects with you. Well, at least for me. And maybe because it's Lin Gengxin, lol. Nevertheless, it was a good watch. :)

(Definitely not an advertisement, lol!)
