Is it really that hard to not use names of existing conditions for made-up symptoms? As someone who has prosopagnosia I already have to explain to people that I do not see blurry faces and my vision is perfectly fine. A drama supporting this misconception is the last thing we need.
Yeah, I'm expecting this to end up as the disappointment of the year, not necessarily because it's bad, but because so many people have great memories of UWMA and are carrying their expectations over to this. Issue is that UWMA was revolutionary back in the day, but nowadays it's a pretty mediocre drama compared to some other big titles. So unless Between Us manages to not be stuck in the past and makes something worthy of being good in 2022, we can expect some waves of harsh criticism.
There weren't expectations for BL drama like this one before Bad Buddy happened. I personally felt like BB was lacking a lot in the plot department, but since it'd brought an exceptional chemistry of the couple and many lgbtq+ friendly talks which weren't as common back then, it ended up being very hyped up. I'm not saying that The Eclipse is better, but it certainly would've been celebrated for including those things too had it come out first. We've also got used to more diverse plots in BLs which wasn't as common a year earlier either so I feel like the mystery-driven story would've been more exciting too.
But this at least shows how far we've moved in a year :)
You're wasting your breath. It appears that the more sexually disturbing the BL is, the more folks seem to like…
This!! I absolutely do not understand why so many consumers of the BL "genre" enjoy this kind of content and don't care about the morality of the situation as long as it's all fiction. And it's scary to think that there are minors as well who don't realise how dangerous and wrong the situations would be in real life.
There could be so many interesting BL dramas with focus on the sexual side of the relationship and adult characters who have jobs and life experiences, but instead it's all about the same set of non-con situations which many fans keep defending.
Yeah, that and Oh My Sunshine Night (already at a really low rating) are the only ones which had kept their ratings. I wouldn't be surprised if some fans of Love In The Air had decided to do this (not blaming all its fans though). It's way too suspicious how it stayed the same when it's the most popular currently airing BL which means it should've been targetted first.
It seems like the ratings of 5 currently airing BLs have been down-vote botted because I swear I'd checked it yesterday and they all still had ratings 0.1-0.4 higher.
If we are talking technical, sure, this drama will not live up to any of the standard. But the fact that everyone…
Yep, so it's an issue with relatability then. In my case I did find myself smiling at some cute moments, but ultimately I think I've seen relationships in dramas which I've enjoyed more. The portrayal of youth doesn't align with my experiences at all and for me the story didn't have any emotional value aside from enjoying some of the characters' interaction.
Thank you for sharing the explanation though, I think I understand the support for this drama a lot better now!
I'm honestly intriguingly surprised this ended up being one of the highest rated BL dramas on MDL. The lack of problematic relationship tropes sure was nice (even though the "sudden change in abusive parents' behaviour" still happened) and the main couple was cute, but I feel like the drama was lacking in almost all areas. The many unresolved or rushed plot points made everything feel incomplete which resulted in nothing but the main couple's story making proper sense. To this day I don't understand why the second couple had an argument and how it was resolved with just one kiss. And I'm not saying it's bad, but to me this feels like a pretty average drama, maybe around the 8.0 rating. Though maybe the issue is with me only relating to Ye Guang's parental situation and ending up disappointed with how the parents reformed instead of seeing Ye Guang gaining his own independence despite their protests. I suppose the story might be more enjoyable for those who can relate to the characters' struggles.
I am so surprised that pink was the key colour because until now I thought everything in pink was either supposed to be the shade "blush pink" from ep 3 or magenta, the alternate universe's colour. So I guess featuring blush pink early into the story was supposed to throw us off lol.
I personally thought either red or brown were going to be the most important colour since they've both been very prominent and featured during some important scenes.
So fam it turns out the more BL I watch the more I hate a lot of BL tropes. I've found myself stalling on watching…
As someone who lowers dramas' ratings depending on how many tropes are found in them, I can assure you that so far there were only 2 tropes, both a one-time thing and neither actually harmful or problematic.
Bro i hope they are not trynna to give us Sani and Wat 💀💀 theyd be cute but put that pair in a different…
I thought that scene only happened so she could naturally find out more about their true personalities before she gets close to all 3 of them later in the plot?
it will probably happen - whether it's acceptable a not depends on the script's tightness. I've seen good ones…
Seeing how there isn't enough screen time to properly develop the main plotline, I'm not expecting there to be that gradual change. But even though I understand people like happy endings and don't need dramas to be realistic, the trope of a parent changing, even if gradually, always feels like such a slap to the face for me. In reality abusive parents rarely improve and realise their wrong behaviour so children usually act obedient and hope to escape that environment as soon as possible. I'd like to see more dramas like this where the parents don't improve and their child instead finds comfort in people outside of home.
Now I'm going to end up either overjoyed or disappointed depending on whether Ye Guang's parents end up having the "sudden redemption arc" or not. Because the narrative of abusive parents changing their behaviour at the very end has already ruined a couple of dramas for me lol.
Knowing the colour theory can actually spoil an entire episode haha. I'd figured white symbolises Talay and black is for Puen so gray would logically be the title of the episode when the two of them got together, just like white and black turn to gray once they connect. With black I originally thought Puen would be revealing his name, but I did assume it'd be focused on him.
Also I just want to say, that magenta hourglass is my favourite symbolism so far. Magenta is the colour of the alternate universe they're in so putting it into an hourglass indicates the passage of time and eventual end of their stay in that universe. Which means that Puen had indirectly confessed to Talay that he's willing to leave with him once their time there runs out :)
Would someone please, please explain the sweaters? Why is everyone in BL wearing sweaters? And old man sweaters.…
To me it seems like Thai BLs have started shifting towards the aesthetics of South Korea/western countries in an attempt to internationalise their dramas more. They want to meet that higher standard of production and modernising their fashion to match with the developed countries seems to be one of the ways to do it. It is awful that the actors have to act dressed like Thailand has 4 seasons if it's really just because all of the major tv producers are located in the northern hemisphere, but I guess the stylists would prefer that over the actual Thai fashion.
