This reminds Rain in Diamond Lover. He earned $5.4 million only to have his voice dubbed...
Keikin, this, I agree, "This hallyu ban is one of the best thing to happen to the Chinese drama industry and I seriously hope they will not repeat the mistake of casting Korean actors just because they are cheaper alternatives" That last part reminds me of Zhang Han.
I have seen many good TV projects coming out this year 2017 from china. It's insane with all the new young faces too. Speaking of Thai, did you watch "Stairway to Stardom"? I mean, good, lorddddd. . . . . (-_-), Puttichai, my dude, he's been done dirty . . . . . . . .
William Chan's HK accent is ok for me. I wouldn't mind if he's not dubbed in his dramas.
Who else? oh, Sometani Shota from The Legend of the Cat Demon (2018). He sounds legit! have you watched the trailer? Japan has stepped up! I think he's an example of your "If you want to act in a Chinese drama, at least learn your lines in pinyin for people to dub over" but he uses his own voice (I think it's his voice coz I haven't looked that info up).
Off topic, but on the Japan side, I support more JP actors to be in CH dramas. However, I spoke to soon. A mix feeling for The Legends of Monkey King (2018) coz of Jin Akanishi. He's gonna be dubbed and there's potential bad cgi. The casts are also not impressive. I'll still check it out a bit. I mean what is he thinking!
The first episode wasn't that wow, but the 2nd EP was not bad. I keep thinking is MC that brilliant or he's just…
yezh the beginning is awfully boring. I suggest you skip to until ep 9 of the Disguiser coz when the story picks up, it gets very addictive. You just have to wait until it picks up, then climax, and then the ending. Like I said I favour Sparrow more than the Disguiser even though I have just seen the beginning (5 episodes) of Sparrow and completed The Disguiser already. Because I hated how the Disguiser story's unveils, I look at Sparrow like it can rescue me. LOL I've just seen a few episodes of Sparrow but I can see its potential.
Well yes, the last episodes was meh. Ming Lou and Ming Cheng was so smart but ended up doing such stupid mistakes…
I copy video address on dramacool. com and paste it to "open network" in File on VLC. It's the best way to stream. I used to torrent too but it's risky, and doesn't guarantee quality, over 720p, and in the end if you don't like a drama you will feel it's a waste of space on your hard disc. I didn't stream The Disguiser. I actually manually downloaded each episode of the Disguiser to my laptop, which was laborious. It's really hard to find torrents for c-dramas (I can't find any). Which website do you go to?
and I already started Sparrow and it is really good and very similar to Disguiser. :)
Thank you for your kind words! I know it's discouraging to start a long drama with no feedback whatsoever and…
what about Siwon? are you talking about his real life personality or his on-screen? if so which drama? I'm not familiar with his acting but I know who he is. :) yeah Hu Ge's role is very lively. yeah no problems with the technicality of the dubs at all. The dub was not bad. Good actually; it's just that after watching many dramas i'm now aware of voice-actors' voice. I notice/aware of their dulcet tones. Perhaps they dubbed the previous drama I had just seen. Coz Marquis Yan doesn't sound like this in NIF so he is dubbed here for sure. I notice things like these. heheehe

haha I just scrolled down and saw my comment a year ago. Surprise myself. I really put this on hold way too long. Now praying for it to be good. EP5 is kinda childish. I really wanna believe that this is truly better than The Disguiser as I heard people said so ( and coz Disguiser tore my heart/messed with my feelings, so I don't favour it at all). Only after watching the whole thing will I know if it's better or not, but so far it feels not as serious as The Disguiser. The Disguiser got so fcking serious.
ok, the male voice over, narrating what people are thinking, is just lackluster, ruins the mood and spells everything out for you. Viewers can't put 2 and 2 together? I guess this is better than Taiwan dramas' talking to oneself thinking method but this narrating method is just overkill. Maybe it helps they don't have to hire (cut budgets) more small-role actors to act as minions/assistants to the main characters in order to converse with them and let us know what they are thinking, but can't the actors that already exist there talk to each other to reveal what they are thinking? Instead they just stay quiet and let the old narrator narrates this; he sounds like he's narrating a Wuxia drama. LOL *imagining he is stroking his long beard while narrating the story.
The first episode wasn't that wow, but the 2nd EP was not bad. I keep thinking is MC that brilliant or he's just pretending. I will cringe real bad if the old guy narrator's voice keeps coming back in the later episodes: do we even need the voice over? overkill.
A year ago I checked this one's first episode out but put it on hold coz didn't get the memo of this whole genre. Luckily, I just finished The Disguiser and craved for something of the same genre again. Like now I know about the republican era things like the Japanese or what KMT is, etc. So this, watching this, for me is like a continuous sequel to The Disguiser (same settings, same theme, same camera filter, color and lighting). So this is very beneficial for me who is forgetful. Foundations are already laid. This should be a thing: to marathon dramas of the same genre (spy genre) until one gets tired. Also, this guy, Bi Zhong Liang, is like a male version of The Disguiser's Wang Man Chun. Hahahaha so I know I'm gonna have a love/hate relationship with him. His name is also similar to The Disguiser's Liang Zhong Chun.
Gotta say that i'm aware of the dubbing in this one. The dubbing sounds very obvious, and I have a pretty dumb pair of ears. Some people say they can tell if there is a dubbing in all Chinese dramas, whereas I am mostly unaware, and I can and can't tell, depending on who the casts are. I had just seen The Disguiser, in which the dubbing wasn't as obvious. Gotta say, too, that NIF fans will be likely to pick out Marquis Yan's dubbing. He sounds very obvious.
Someone said this is better than the Disguiser. I mean Li Yi Feng's role is not like Ming Tai's nor is his romance, so I hope for the romance with Zhou Dong Yu to be watchable coz I honestly watch this for her.
Thank you for such an insight review. Only one review for this and yours has top-notch phrases.

thanks for the explanation. i'm quite lonely here on this drama. looks like not many watch this recently to have discussions and this was aired 2 yrs ago. funny that U said Sparrow coz I was planning to see it for Zhou Dong Yu. :) I say no to agent rouge coz heard its ending was lacking. someone said this "Compared to dramas based in similar time periods such as The Disguiser and Rookie Agent Rouge, Sparrow is a way better story" im gonna see Sparrow
