I think a mutual kiss will suffice to show Adachi's character growth in the "comfortable with intamacy" department. It doesn't necessarily have to be with a hot scene. We just need to see him be comfortable with intimacy right? Then let's say Adachi initiates a kiss or is welcoming Kurosawa's kiss. And afterwards, he's seen smiling rather than the pikachu face.

I can think of one. Guilt. Although Kurosawa doesn't vocalize it, Adachi can hear all of his honest thoughts and care for him. Overtime, that sort of one-sided exposure can lead one to feel guilty that they are seeing someone's heart without permission. And then in the preview in the next episode when we get the cut off of Kurosawa saying "if my mind was being read, i-" that could indicate something that triggered Adachi's guilt, I am theorizing.
