I’m crying so hard at the finale, when XF died in his arms and made him promise to live well. My god, add the sad music and Chen Xingxu’s top-notch crying scene, this ending was really satisfying, albeit sad!!
Ep 7...just me or is there zero chemistry? And Gu Jian my man, you fail at noble idiocy.
Tbh, the chemistry in the beginning first 10 eps were OK so I can see how you didn’t feel any. They had to rush and squeeze this relationship within 10 eps. But it gets so MUCH better after that due to “different” story and different setting, and much more time for development.
-Bai Lu is so great. Huo Xuan had better chemistry with the Pavillon Master (also the actor He Fengtian who played him was amazing too) than the two leads had with each other. -Wu Jingyan has SUCH an aura portraying the Empress Dowager. - I miss the psycho emperor Liu Ziye lmao - Pleasantly surprised by Guan Xiaotong here. - Drama would’ve been considered good if it stayed consistent and didn’t completely changed stories after shifting to Northern Wei.
But I feel like Yi Ren is the one who pushed off what he left behind into the dark side. He made Haolan angry…
Yi Ren told LBW that he pushed HL away so he could take all the place in her heart and he succeeded. Even after 5 years, HL still thinks about him, and got so upset when Lao Ai buried Yi Ren’s gifts to her even when she initially didn’t opposite it, and in the end, she was buried with him like he wished. HL didn’t even want to be together with LBW even after YR died
In conclusion, Yi Ren is the winner in this game of chess. Despite being the first to die amongst the three main characters, all his goals were achieved. Power, throne, legacy and love.
I’ve always found the near-end of the Warring States Period interesting, also the fall of Zhao/the rise of the Qin empire till they formed their first dynasty, and it seems this drama is closely following most events from that period, including the birth of Ying Zheng. Things will get more interesting and angsty once Haolan settles into the Qin state, and it kinda makes me anxious.
I'm really curious... does hao lan ever actually love/like or have any feelings for yi ren? In ep 42 when they…
She gives him the cold shoulder because he took too long to take her back (she suffered alone with her son in Zhao for 8 years without him) and I believe she heard about him marrying another girl, no matter for what political reason. That has nothing to do with Lü Buwei. As for whether she loves him, I think she’s grown to love him after they got married, as seen in eps30 and onwards.. Also, it’s been debunked that the rumour is false in order to slander the first emperor of China. The child is legitimately Yiren’s and it does not make sense based on modern science to be Lü Buwei’s considering the pregnancy time being too long.
I'm not sure if they'll put it in the show, but in actual history it's said that even though she married yi ren…
well she had two children with another guy called Lao Ai, not buwei. Although polyamory would be nice, having affairs (which a different concept) is not.
