the sec the "old shopkeeper" was mentioned,…

the sec the "old shopkeeper" was mentioned, i thought of He Chu San's father - now that would one hell of a twist. but Xie Jia Hua's father way more suspect so guess we will have to wait & see if we ever get a revel. as is i kept putting this off cause we already at the end. but heard that there is gonna be a 2nd seasons so lets hope it comes to fruition. ******************************from the start of this Bl Xia Liu Yi keeps getting hurt, it's ridiculous the amount of times he is bloody - if i was He Chu San i would've had white hair by now - what with the constant worrying. also well acted cause u could see the worry & fear in his eyes when he was cleaning & dressing Xia Liu Yi's wounds. also am happy he told him the truth about not having any disorder - that he plain liked/loved him... given Xia Liu Yi shocked look, guess he hasn't gotten used to the idea yet & we only got one last ep - ***********************************************************************************************************************************btw idk why the 2nd couple is even regarded as a couple - just cause they slept together (& there was no sleeping to speak off) so does a one-night-stand a relationship make?!? i don't think so. not to mention Lu Guang Ming had an ulterior motive, targeting & getting into Xie Jia Hua's bed. & what he has gotten out of him so far isn't the real reason he targeted him - that's clear that he is playing games - but to what end we still have to find out.

Hometown Romance EP5 Review: When Slow Burn Starts to Stall

Episode 5 of Hometown Romance delivers undeniable chemistry and a standout intimate moment—but struggles to maintain momentum. While Klao and Si continue to anchor the series with emotional authenticity, uneven pacing and underdeveloped drama hold this episode back. There are still moments worth watching—but is it enough? well this got a fluffy ending & everything worked out - given how short this BL is i aint surprised. do i think this should've been longer so the whole grooming thing could've been addressed - hell yeah - but it is what it is. this will be a one off for me cause of how a really serious issue was turned into a side non issue just to focus on the romance.

wait who was Ryo texting?!? & gonna meet…

wait who was Ryo texting?!? & gonna meet at a hotel??? a past/present friend-with-benefits?? an ex he hooks up with? cause in this ep we found out that he has been in past gay relationships. there is so many questions. but from what we see am sure he always had feelings for Zen, maybe when they parted ways (when they graduated) Zen realized he felt more for Ryo then friendship. but think the reason they started all the competing was a way to get close to Zen.

the rivalry kinda reminded me of Bad Buddy. of course there is more to the pair... as in feelings that never got explored when they were teens. so i can't wait for both's POV about their true feelings then & now. also curious why Ryo said "sorry" after Zen left. was that for reminding him about their latest bet? or for what happened the night before - cause Ryo cheated IMO when he stopped touching himself & touched Zen.

Fun and addictive

Episode 3 is so good and genuinely funny. It runs for 80 minutes, almost like a double episode, but it goes by so quickly. I love it so much. You can clearly see they are falling for each other hard, and it is going to be explosive once they finally open up.

A slight route change?!

Well the way the drama was going in the direction, after watching episode 1, I never would have imagined episode 2 to go in this direction. It was a good episode nonetheless. But after that cliffhanger, excited for next episode.

This drama kicks off with an immediate contest…

This drama kicks off with an immediate contest of wits between Li Pei Yi (Bai Lu) and Xiao Huai Jin (Wang Xing Yue). Right off the bat from the moment they meet they both start measuring each other up on the intelligence scale. Huaijin seemingly has a bit of an advantage in that he knows her from something connected to the night her family was killed whereas she apparently does not recognize him. He seems to think this gives him room to maneuver. However, she recognizes one of his tokens and it gives her a flashback to that night so she already knows he's connected in some way. The flashback seems to suggest that the boy version of him led the girl version of her to safety that night, but we don't have a lot more to go on yet. At any rate, while after their initial encounter he tries to distance himself from her, she clearly took steps to get an imperial decree to force him to assist her. This suggests strongly that she already realizes he has some connection to her. rr On the quality of the show, first impressions: Wow, absolute stunning visuals and fantastic cast. The cinematography and costumes are as good as on any drama series I've watched. The camerawork and lighting and effects are being used like an artist's paintbrush to produce some beautiful, mesmerizing imagery. And while it's probably enough to laud the casting of Bai Lu and Wang Xing Yue (glad to see them as allies after being in opposition in One and Only), the rest of the cast is filled out with veteran, talented actors up and down the cast. So far, this all foretells a really excellent drama to come.

A Masterclass in "Brokenness" - Xu Kai in Eight Hundred (方圆八百米)

If you thought you knew Xu Kai, think again. In Eight Hundred (方圆八百米), he completely shatters his "idol drama" image to deliver a career-defining performance that is both grounded and gut-wrenching. Moving away from the polished world of historical fantasy, this drama dives headfirst into a gritty, realistic portrayal of perseverance and the crushing weight of expectation.Xu Kai’s portrayal of Chen Hui—a character caught between his own moral compass and the suffocating pressures of 1990s mining-life—is a masterclass in restraint. He eschews grand, theatrical gestures, instead letting the emotional heavy lifting happen in the quietest moments: a flickering gaze, a slumped shoulder, or a hollow silence. It is a nuanced, mature turn that proves his incredible versatility as an actor. His "独当一面" (standing alone) is not an act of strength, but a reflection of collective trauma. Whether it is the frantic guilt of a desperate act or the silent agony of his final farewell to his parents, Xu Kai inhabits the "Little Bitter Gourd" with a raw, visceral humanity that makes the character's descent into the deep end feel inevitable and heartbreaking.Visually, the show is stunning in its simplicity. The clean, realistic aesthetic captures the raw intensity of the competition and the lonely moments of reflection with equal beauty. The pacing is deliberate, allowing the audience to truly inhabit the characters' world. Supporting characters add vital depth, with veteran powerhouse actors providing the perfect moral foil to Chen Hui’s flawed, broken person.Eight Hundred is a soul-stirring watch. It is a "良心剧" (drama of conscience) that focuses on the authentic human experience. For anyone who appreciates character-driven storytelling and the high-stakes "cat-and-mouse" game between justice and blood, this is easily the best show of 2026.

A DREAM WITHIN A DREAM reference

AH! The line where Dan says, "What is a platform? What is an idol? What is the plot?" In ADWAD, Nan Heng says, "You keep talking about protagonists and supporting characters, but I still don't get what that means."

Kinda a lame ending to an otherwise great series.

On one hand, the revelations from Wei Yan about what really happened were very moving and added a ton of depth to the story. Really makes you disgusted by the actions of the late former emperor. But otherwise, it felt like the episode short-shifted on the real fates of the various characters in order to provide a weird alternative universe short story. I'm not sure what the point of that was. Some sort of fan service? I would much, MUCH rather they spent more time on the fates of the actual characters in the main story. For example, it would have been cool to see an actual formal wedding for Changyu and Zheng. It would have been cool to see their two kids (and by that time, both Bao and Ning growing up to be a young adults). It would have been nice to see a bit about the fate of Gongsun and Qi Shu. All that would have been far, far more interesting than the weird alternate universe thing. Oh well, I still liked the series overall.
