Not as good as I expected

People have been raving about this film and one of the leads, Yoo Teo, became a favorite after I saw him in the Kdrama Love to Hate You so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, I feel let down after seeing this. It's definitely not a bad film and the cinematography is stunning. But the characters are underdeveloped and I especially had trouble with the FL who I found neither likable or interesting. As someone from a non-English speaking family who moved 3000 miles away from home as a young adult, I expected to relate to the story's characters and themes but instead they mostly left me cold.

The saving grace of the film is Yoo Teo, who delivers a wonderful, melancholic performance as a man who can't bring himself to stop asking what if. His eyes hold all of the emotion and poignance that should've been present in the film's writing and the FL's characterization. Alas, he was the only person I empathized with.

A wonderful adaptation for fans! For first timers: check out the story so its less confusing

My Happy Marriage is a popular light-novel that has been adapted into various versions such as a manga and recently as an anime that ended its first season with plans for a second season in the making. I have long been a fan and had previously mostly read the manga and watched the anime and felt like this was perfect for me.

Imada Mio in the main role as Saimori Miyo does an incredible job and she really interpreted Miyo as how I read her in the manga. All of the cast felt good and delivered with what they were given to work with.

That being said, the main issue in the movie is the fact that they try to squeeze in too much in the time-frame that is offered. If I hadn't had a previous knowledge about the story and the worldbuilding, this would have been very confusing. I did feel like the story was unfortunately rushed and would've loved it more if it had focused on the main leads relationship and Miyo's past struggles in her household she grew up in instead of the emperial storyline. There were many plotpoints that were shaved off or stripped down to the bare minimum for the story to fit into the movie and if I had no prior knowledge of the storyline I do feel like many things would have flown over my head completely.

The story mainly centers on the romance between the main leads so this is definitely a budding romance movie at its core with alot of fantasy and action in a historical setting.

You can't deny, even with the changes in pacing, the budget for the special effects and for the cinematography is really nice and you can see how much care they have put into the movie visually. It is also quite clear that they released the movie with plans to produce a sequel movie. (Do check out the ending credits for a mini-extra scene hinting that they are planning the sequel!)

I really do suggest to watch the movie but I highly recommend to do some research about the story by reading the manga/light novel or watching some episodes of the anime if this is completely new to you. That way, it will be easier to follow the story and you can enjoy the visual aspect and the acting without struggling with the plot.

By Philippine standards, a very successful family comedy not only about the mother of the Luz family and her three sons - Oscar is a hidden gay, at least at the beginning (he has a girlfriend but also a secret beautiful lover), Orson is gay after CO (such a squeaky aunt) and the youngest Orwell still he doesn't know exactly where his sexuality will go. In addition, Luz's younger (and handsome) boyfriend, Gerry, is also in the family. On the eye, the image of the Happy Family suddenly receives an unexpected blow, with which Luz has to fight and the end is certain. For those who know Pinoy movies, I recommend this one for a good mood...

The handsome Filipino Johnron Taňada in the role of Rico owns a cafe called Kape Barako, which has few customers, almost none, and the bank loan repayment deadline is approaching, otherwise the business will be closed. Rico tries to keep the business going, even by selling his body, and gradually learns how to perform erotica with men. His employees start to secretly mix their sperm into the coffee, the excellent coffee becomes famous in a wide area and the business begins to turn into a gay bar willy-nilly. Let yourself be surprised how it all turns out. She's actually such a Filipino fool, you could say, but anyone interested in Pinoy movies can't throw this cute, naive puzzle in the trash. Maybe in time someone will find a better copy of this movie..

The film is very attractive to me thanks to the two Filipino stars. The sympathizer Paolo Rivera plays the unsympathetic role of the criminal, and for me the irresistible Janvier Daily second him. The story was processed with the famous naivety and point of view, a little jumbled, it did not depict the characters' characters very well. What connected the two? Family ties, friendship, affection, love? Of course, I would prefer to imagine these two actors in the same story in a very dramatic European treatment, rough, perhaps Nordic. But let's stay in Asia...

At the age of 83, Eddie Garcia plays the character of René, a scrupulous, thrifty, sometimes rude old man. I have to appreciate that as an actor, because that is the main role. He's an old gay man who hangs out in his coffin and likes Sol, a 56-year-old taxi driver (by God, at least some of us will reach that age, so he'll probably be a 50-year-old "young man" a complete prince for us...). The film is named after his dog, and behind the overall image of this gentleman, the beautiful soul of one person crouches inside. Hence my increased rating...

I didn't know how to grasp the film, the nudity seemed to me in some moments self-serving (or should it be more "artistic"?), some twists naive, but I expected that, we are in Asia after all.

The final third at the court was surprising, I did not expect such a twist in an erotic-philosophical film (it's a strange combination, isn't it?). Maybe when I watch it again sometime, I'll feel more depth from the movie, which there seems to be in it, but I somehow didn't perceive it much this time ...

Two nice Filipino actors Coco Martin and Paolo Rivero, whom we know from other Pinoy movies listed here on GT (Masahista, Jay, Walang Kawala, Little Boy Big Boy, Bayaw, my favorite Heavenly Touch and maybe others, I can't remember them all), they managed the whole movie in two. Sad movie. Nicely played...

Decide to meet fate just the two of them? Both have already decided to look socially "tolerable" for relationships with women, but true love is here, between them. Neither of them belong to the Filipino poor, JP has a shop and William is moving to Australia. Or that JP would move in with him?

The film is originally 75 minutes long. The copy on YT is "only" 60 minutes long - did the hand of the censor intervene? But I rate the original film and the actors. Where the full 75 min is is a mystery to me, but if you watch other copies and not the shortened one on YT, these lines contain the cut scenes. But it's more about the beauty of the male body, erotically, don't expect any porn, which adds even more value to the film.

"Sherwin, I'm your partner..." Paolo tells his love towards the end of the film.

You need to get under the skin of those Pinoy films first, get rid of only your narrow European perspective and take and perceive them as they are. And this one of them is among the comprehensively high-quality ...

Paolo is a young indie film director who would like to marry Sherwin, who is a lawyer and they have been living together for some time. Both will also attend the wedding of Sherwin's younger sister Mary Jane. Of course, I won't reveal how it all turns out, I'll just lament that I fully understand that translators don't flock to Pinoy movies. They are often not good quality copies, or they are not available separately, preferably English subtitles

My favorite movie the overflowing chemistry of the mainleads make me watch everyday

Saimori Miyo was the unfortunate child of a loveless, arranged marriage. After her mother died, her father brought in his lover and her own daughter, Kaya. From then on, Miyo's life was reduced to that of a mere servant. Even worse, while Kaya inherited the family's psychic abilities, Miyo had none—she was truly the daughter with no merit. After years of being treated like dirt, Miyo has learned to keep her head down, hide her pain, and obey every order. So, it comes as no surprise that she is arranged to be married to Kudo Kiyoka, a military captain rumored to be so cruel that he has driven away every one of his potential wives so far. From a painful upbringing to a painful marriage, that's the future that awaits Miyo—or so she thinks. Contrary to her expectations, her new husband is actually kind-hearted. What really awaits Miyo is a blissful, everlasting marriage full of happiness!

"Which elementary school did you go to?"

The Night of the Undead had zero zombies in it if that’s what you are looking for. Without giving away any plot points, the title refers to a dark night with aliens and humans who all seemed very difficult to kill. The movie was far more comedic than frightening.

So Hee is living a great life. She resides in a huge apartment and has a gorgeous husband who cooks her breakfast every morning. When Man Gil’s late nights at work and disturbing text messages pique her curiosity, she goes to The Mystery Research Lab. Broccoli, the man in charge of the shabby agency, follows her husband and brings back a disturbing report. Man Gil is not only a philandering husband, he’s also an alien. When her loving hubby attempts to murder her, So Hee calls upon Broccoli and her friends Sera and Yang Sun to help her put a permanent stop to his lethal ways. Killing a murderous alien was harder than it looked as he was nigh on indestructible. He also had his own crew of indestructo buddies. The Korean version of Men in Black were also hunting down the unbreakable Choi Man Gil. It might take a combination of the Earthly forces and a bizarre feline concoction to save the planet.

The film ran too long, it would have benefited from a 90 minutes running time. Some comic schticks were beaten dry of any humor from situations. Having said that there were genuinely funny moments. If you were needing something suspenseful, look elsewhere. Due to the comedic nature of the film, the grim happenings couldn’t be taken too seriously. The story had serious plot holes and implausible elements which were difficult to overcome. This was also one of those films that only had enough money to pay for the rights to one song---Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy played several times.

It’s rare for a sismance to take center stage in a movie, but So Hee, Sera, and Yang Sun banded together despite their differences in the past. And any woman would be lucky to have a friend willing to take a cleaver to her psychotic alien husband bent on exterminating humans and taking over the world. Night of the Undead may have been a deeply flawed film but it had some entertaining moments.

Fairly entertaining, insanely ridiculous.

Did I have fun? Kind of. Did it take me 4 hours to finish it? Yes. Did I feel bad about being bored while watching all the kids dying? No. And that all kind of sums up all the problems I had with the movie.

Personally, I’m the person who needs some kind of explanation for the events happening, otherwise I cannot connect to what I see on the screen and I get bored. And we got exactly zero explanations in Battle Royale. What was the goal of the law? What was supposed to be the positive effect it has? What was the motivation make it happen? We don’t know and I honestly cannot think of a truly logical one myself that would make sense in any universe. So the movie ends up with being just… kids killing themselves and each other. And that’s kind of boring.

That said, there were two aspects I did enjoy:

My favorite part of the movie was for sure everyone taking their sweet time dying after being shot 4868374587439 times. They do need to give their final monologues after all.

Jokes aside, one thing I truly liked is how the kids are accused of basically the collapse of moral standards and crumbling society, but as the movie progresses, we see many flashbacks of all the adults who failed the same kids that are blamed now. Great way to showcase how youth is often blamed the negative consequences of adults’ actions and decisions - still relevant 23 years after the movie was made. It’s not the kids that ruined the society, it’s the society that failed the kids.

Rewatch value is 100000/10

Rewatched the movie a number of times, and loved the story each time. Our Times was one of the first few Taiwanese movies I had watched. And, led me to discover other dramas and movies similar to such.

Tai Yu's character is indeed memorable. Although he was not a perfect character, his development was amazing! He remembered everything that Truly mentioned (even the tiniest details). Hence, Tai Yu became the standard.

The movie itself involved various elements that can make you shed tears and even let out a good laugh.

What I like about this entire series:
[X ] Production sets/Props used; attention to detail is evident
[ X ] Wardrobes fitting scenes wellp
[X ] Artists portrayal of individual roles are good
[ ] Theme Music: opening credit, closing credit
[ X ] Story and good way it was written for the screen
[X ] DIRECTOR'S creative vision and imagination translating the script into a visual form.
[ ] Awesome CGI
[ X ] Fight Choreographies are beautiful and synchronized.

What personally didn't work for me
[ ] Lead Actor's Role portrayal
[ ] Lead Actress Role Portrayal
[ ] Story
[ ] Costumes Used
[ ] Set Designs
[ ] Script Lines could have been better
[ ] Too many, too much corny & cliche scenes
[ X ] COUPLE of scenes that do not make sense at all. Inconsistencies. Daughter of Imprisoned Lord talked excitedly about her loot before mentioning her father being imprisoned.
[ ] Too many fillers (useless scenes) to fill time.
[ ] The Director's work here can be described as "someone who got paid first, and did the bare minimum with didn't care attitude.
