Nice start but progressively got bad

I was actually so excited to see a crime BL but honestly so many scenes just made me laugh, cringe or question how out of reality this is.

Its like the writer only cared about the romance and forgot the plot altogether. the cuts were so wierd like someone would be getting killed and the two leads would be enjoying themselves - every single time? was that supposed to be poetic lol??
The police department does not care, nor do the "victims" thier whole squad dies one by one but theyre still keeping secrets talk about stupidity. the department is just chilling, the media is ignored, the polititians do not care? where is complexity and nuance of a crime tv show? the two leads would be flirting in the office and sleeping in the office and literally cause no tension? thats literally not how things work in real life! It seemed like this show is made in fantasy world . i dont see anyone talking about how out of touch this show is from reality. Jade's literal brother is part of the squad but jade is still part of the case? Half the show the police havent been able to catch anyone and were so bad at their job it was crazy actually.

Now the romance part is cute and all but the progression of their relationship is a bit inconsistent and kinda fast i guess. but they had good chemistry overall. its honestly not about the acting but about the script and the storyline. this had so much potential it makes me sad.

Food, feminism and a soggy plot

The plot itself wasn't very much pleasing to my taste in the first place .. the pace of story, events unfolding and even the characters nothing really could hold my heart even though for its rating I had high expectations from this show. I understand there are a lot of people who like a subtle storyline with women fighting or helping each other with men in the centre of their attention but I personally don't appreciate such troupes. As the show begins se see all shades of objectifying women in the society ...a competition to select wife .. fine ..but degrading them right away like their life depends on it .. then comes a clown with 24+ concubines ..and if that wasn't enough our ML who was talking big and making his eternal love promises to FL bring a new wife ...at this point my patience ran out .. the biggest turn off for me in any story is when the lead of that story goes back on his/her words especially when that is a promise he/she made to his/her partner. After watching a bit further it was clear that this new wife is not interested in him and wants to divorce him ..good but that doesn't mean his own actions are nullified.

I will not suggest if anyone should watch it or not ..but for me this drama has passed the threshold of my emotional and moral compass ..I don't mind watching gore ..blood shed .. swords and guns but this is something I can't take. Seriously..it pokes right through my heart and makes me moody for days.

ML ... I dont know what his name is and he is easily forgettable .. I might watch him if I see him in other drama but I won't be looking for his drama exclusively. They don't have even the iota of chemistry between them.. I don't know about ML but I have seen TXW in multiple drama .she can pull a great chemistry with almost every co actor. Here she failed. In fact the awkwardness was quite visible between them.

The side cast was okay .. two three actors were those you commonly seen in other dramas from time to time ..

I watched all episodes 1 to 20. No excuses!

The reason I write this story is that I watched all episodes from my opinion, because I feel bad for Han Ba-Da mostly. Do you know why? Let me tell you this story. I NEVER thought that the main characters would make me under my flaws.


Eun Kang and Han Ba Da have been best friends for over 20 years, I believe. Eun Kang is a very ill person. I have never seen that in episodes, because she has been obsessed with luxury and dark desires since high school. She met Han Ba-Da because she is rich and very friendly, BUT she has a backbone and very stronger than Eun Kang.

When they grew up, Han Ba Da did not realize that her best friend had darkest desires and wanted to be like her. In my opinion, Eun Kang should be grateful to have family and her best friend who supported her, but she thinks its ok to have dark desires to destroy people and hurt her own best friend. That is HORRIBLE.

Han Ba Da has been married to Cha Won for over 8 years, and beautiful girl. I don't understand why. Eun Kang tried to destroy between her best friend and slept with Han's husband, Cha WON. Because Eun Kang is not in love with him, because she wants to be Han Ba Da's life. Money and Luxury, Desires can kill you!

Cha Won, come on, He should stand on his ground and not lead to destroy his own marriage because he saw Eun Kang naked in the pool to tempt him, leading to lust to something happening. Also, he did not think about Han Ba Da's feelings and his own daughter, and his reputation.

Eun Kang thinks its ok to sleep with him, and pathetic. Ruined all of her friendship and her life.

Han Han Da found the letter Eun Kang wrote for her husband Cha, and, shocked, was deeply hurt in her heart, because she never thought her husband and her. Cha's life was good after Eun Kang always showed up at their place to do errands. I wish Han Ba Da would not let her get involved too much.


Han Ba Da decided to confront them in Episode 17 in public to ruin them. First, Han Ba Da slapped Eun Kang so hard, and she was shocked and realized she got busted. She realized her best friend, Han Da, had already found out about their affair. Cha Won tried to sit next to his wife, but she demanded he move to sit next to Eun, because he realized she knew what was going on. She slapped him three times until he got cut on his face.

Han told them about everything she found out from his daughter, and letter, also the picture. She is a very strong woman and smart, and challenging person. She decided to invite Cha's family. to confront them, to tell them that their son cheated on Han Ba Da with her best friend. She told her father-in-law, the quote " I give your son back" means she doesn't want him anymore, because she is not a kind person to sweep under the rug.

Finally, she left him, and he tried to stop her, because he truly loved her. He already lost her. His emotions. He is not a real man anyways. She moved out and lives with her mom. Her mom found out and confronted Eun Kang at their apartment, Han Ba Da, and Cha's apartment. I can't believe Cha allows her to enter the apartment.

Eun Kang is very selfish and has no remorse. She asked Cha outside that night in episode 18 or 19. She asked him to try a chance to get him into a relationship with her. He is going for it. Viral videos and stuff at the cafe in episode 17 from the beginning. When they got together, he also brought her to meet his family. His family has NO idea about her family. She is happy to have passed the teacher exam. Fuck her. Cha and Eun Kang decided to go to the restaurant, but Han Ba Da and her mother were there after they left to confront Eun Kang. But her mother yelled at her and called her bad names. Han Ba Da tried to get her out of the restaurant. A strangers already know about Eun Kang and Cha, because of the viral video on the internet. Eun Kang walks and sits at the table, and is confronted by a stranger, because a stranger asked her the quote" Does it feel good to steals your friend's husband, how much you are pathetic". She feels humiliated too much.

Han Ba Da found out her husband had brought her best friend to meet his family and got pissed off. Decided to show up at their place. Han asked them to come with her, and they are confused to follow her to Eun Kang's house. What happened?

Han Ba Da decide to open the door to Eun Kang's house, and they saw them, and Speechless. Han Ba Da's father-in-law yelled at them that they felt so deceived by Eun Kang and her family for using them for money.

Let me tell you about Ji Nam Chul, who is the brother-in-law married Cha's sister. He is a normal guy who grew up in poverty and farmer. He's a hard worker. He truly loves his wife and two kids. Unfortunately, Eun Kang's sister, Jo Eun San who is very pathetic and tempted. Jim Nam Chul is very loyal to this family and very smart. He is a very strong man. Anyway, He runs to save Eun san because she can't hear it behind her from the heavy cremated something to almost kill her, instead he saved her. She started to pump in her heart, and her eyes were on him like a prince in a magic. She is very pathetic and a loner. Somehow they started having an affair, because he has very confused, mixed feelings. He gave her an apartment to rent for a while, and they had a short affair until his wife found out and confronted him. He was busted. His father-in-law got angry between them.

I am very impressed that His wife is very stubborn and very strong, and very wise. She decided to have an affair with Eun Kang's uncle, and she enjoys it. Ji Nam Chul found out, and his heart was very hurt. His wife DEMANDS a divorce. Somehow she found out from her father's past that he hired thugs to beat up Eun Kang's uncle 18 years ago, and she supported marrying him, but they ran away together instead, never happened, and married Ji Nam Chul. She decided to confront him, and yelled at him the quote " I want a divorce, and I let him go to live with the wrench that he cheated on me with that wrench". Ji Nam Chul overheard from his wife. He got deeply hurt in his heart and was confused. Jo Eun San, who is pestering him all day and all night, calls him every day to talk with him. He won't refuse and stands on his ground. He knows he was wrong in the beginning because his kids already know. as long. After he got very hurt, and gave her divorce papers, left. He needs time, goes to his hometown, helps his sister and his father. Eun San realized that he won't leave his family, and decided to meet him in his hometown. And he saw her and ran to hug her, and she made him say something he should have made her stay instead. He let her go because she joined the mission. Yikes! In the end, he was confused and decided to drive to the airport, his feelings mixed. decided to pull out on another road; instead, he found out something in business with his father-in-law for an emergency. He decided to look for lawyers to investigate scammers and catch them. Father-in-law found out and saw his son-in-law, to think and thank him. He got back to his hometown. Eun San's uncle got embarrassed and ended the affair with her to let her go. She realized she loves her own husband, asked their kids if they wanted to see dad and gave him a chance to reconcile with dad Chu. They went to visit him, and saw kids running and screaming " DAD DAD". Jim Nam Chul got emotional and realized his feelings for his wife so stronger. They never leave each other at rest of their lives.


In Episode 20, Eun San is very pathetic and a loner, and is going on a mission. Eun Kang got law lawsuit from Ha Ba Da for Adultery. Eun Kang wants to talk with Ha Ba Da, but her mental breakdown and the realization of her dark desires can ruin her life. She got a job teaching for a day, because Han Ba Da's mother decided to set up the flyer in front of the school. Ha Ba Da decided to call Cha Won, but he did not pick up because he was sleeping. She decided to run to knock on the door to wake him up, and asked him if that was true. Eun Kang decided to break up with him because she had made the biggest mistake in destroying this family and friendship. Han Ba Da and her mother got confronted at each other front of the school in the early morning, no one was there. Eun Kang overheard them talking bout life and blah. The flyer down. Eun Kang did teach the children at school, and her resignation was at the last minute.

Han Ba Da and Eun Kang saw each other in the morning, and went to the cafe again, to talk about her behaviour and stuff, etc. Eun Kang told her that she realized her mental breakdown ruined her reputation and destroyed Han's family. She did feel sorry for her. Han Ba Da asked her about the question of her breakup with her husband, and wants to know. She explained to her that she feels the love affair is not love and humiliation, and she realized to open her own eyes to hurt people she loves.
Ha Ba Da was surprised and forgave her, also doesn't want to hold a grudge anymore. Eun Kang knows her friendship is already been destroyed and she has a 20-year friendship, also lost a good friend. Han Ba Da and Eun Kang were apart and not the same as they used to be.

Eun Kang decided to leave Seoul for real. and leave a letter to her family. What a pathetic sister, Eun Sa, running to Cha, informed him that Eun Kang had already left. Guess what? What an asshole, he got all crying and emotional for Eun Kang's leaving. He is a JERK.

Eun Kang got a job teaching children at a remote farm and is happy. She lost everything. Han Ba Da and Cha got divorced for real, and he realized he lost her forever. His quote says I am sorry I broke your heart so bad, he and Han Ba Da hold hands together to shake, and they decided to be good friends at the start. Han Ba Da decided to go to Italy for studies and more knowledge for three months. Later, Han Ba Da became a successful businesswoman in jewelry and won many awards.

Ji Nam Chul finally became a successful chairman of businessman and proud, and stayed with his family. never leave his family.

Eun san decided to send him a video to say good bye, and he saw her video, did not feel comfortable, decided to delete her video and blocked her. Eun San is on a mission to visit her older sister Eun Kang at the remote Farm, because she is a very pathetic person. Do you know why? She told her to go to the dock. Eun Kang runs to the dock to see Han Ba Da's ex-husband, Cha, on the dock. I saw a scene that is different between them and Han Da. Do you know why? When she saw him and smiled at him, and he did not smile at her, and bit smile, not a big one. He knows he is wrong, and they are not close like apart each other to stand and see each other. not like Cha and Han Ba Da are very close and stand each other to hold hands to shake. They never are the same. In the end, Eun Kang decided to do something gift for Ha Ba Da, and she opened the door to see her gift for her, and was shocked. Eun Kang and Ha Ba Da did not see each other, and Eun Kang hid and saw her running and screaming, but did not find her. Eun Kang walks on the sidewalk and smiles in the end.


Let me tell you, I feel in the end scene that Cha always loves his ex-wife, and I hope they get back together. And I feel sorry for Ha Ba Da. I don't feel sorry for Eun Kang and Eun San; they are so arrogant and destroy someone's family.

I know Cha and Eun Kang have never been together and keep a distance from each other. Han Ba Da and Cha always keep in touch with each other because of their daughter's life. I feel vibes that they are going to get back together. I am pretty sure that Cha is disowned by his family and learned a lesson that he actually lost a loyal wife.


Damn it. I WISH The writers would add episode or vol 21 at the final for Eun Kang and Eun san will find men who cheat on them, to think about what they have done in the past. and Han Ba Da and Cha getting back together and having more children together. BUT COME ON.... In the ending episode, 20 is pathetic and sad.

You fall in love with them as they fall in love with each other

I've re-watched it again after years since the BL with the secondary couple is out and I wanted to remember why I was so disappointed at the time we didn't get much of them. Instead, I was like "oh, yeah, that's why I loved Addicted so much at the time". There are a lot of problematic stuff that my younger self didn't pay as much attention to as I do now, and probably without the nostalgia glasses I wouldn't like it as much? I don't know. What I do know is that the chemistry between the main pairing is unreal. The way their relationship is built-in screen is subtle and has a really nice pace, the conflicts make sense and there is no unnecessary drama, I was surprised that they didn't fight about Gu Hai lying about being rich, since it seems like the kind of plot we see a lot, but Yin is not dumb, he knew the other was lying because he is, again, not stupid. Also, maybe that's why this "enemies to lovers"/bullying plot works so well, because both give as good as they get, they're on the same headspace, is not something you watch and actually hopes one of them get away from an abusive relationship os something like that. They're teenagers, and they're dumb and stupid, but also, the way they start getting soft on each other, start taking care of the other is amazing. It's just lovely. It's really sad that we never saw it through because of censorship, but still, this will always be my favorite version of this story, and the OST? Oh, the OST.

✅️ Beautiful story and exquisite writing.
✅️ The best part of the drama was definitely the dialogues between the leads. It felt like reading a classic book.
✅️ The performance of the actors was excellent, the emotions were portrayed really well.
✅️ No unnecessary story lines, clean and neat progress of both the plot and the character development. The pacing was well executed with nice comedy and romance mixed in.
✅️ The secondary characters were good and held weight to the story instead of being a baggage.
✅️ Good camera angles and the cinematography was top notch.

⚠️ The soundtracks and the music could have been better.
⚠️ Nothing new or different.

Overall, very good. Highly recommend for those who like to watch good romance with a touch of fantasy and politics.

The main appeal in this drama was noir effect and chemistry between the leads

I watched this because of Song Yujia. The chemistry between her and Shu Tong was good and this drama slightly giving noir effect when i watched this remind me of watching old soap opera about infidelity and this is the appeal of this drama.

The plot was quite neat but the ML character was walking red flag and he only got flings about FL never truly loves her, ML initially guides FL to discover her fiancé's infidelity, taking advantage of the situation and forcing her to sign an agreement. However, ML avoids the issue when the FL clarifies their relationship. ML's also hypocritical, having a wife and ex-girlfriend while FL can't eat with his brother and he doesn't give her any status. Even when the "white moonlight" (his love interest) tries to kill FL, he lets her go.

Song Yujia's character in this drama is very traditional; she always feels she provoked ML, and he helps her, with a strong aura—a very realistic character. The younger brother, on the other hand, is quite sunny, honest, and sincere. If the FL hadn't ignored the ML in the first episode, and it's feared his competitive spirit wouldn't have been ignited, none of this would have happened.

Worth to watch if you like noir type of drama.

Growing Apart or Growing Together?

I'm the type of person that believes less and less in love, and even less in long-term love. Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to romance in fiction, especially in BL. There’s something comforting about watching love play out on screen, even when real life makes it feel uncertain. One thing I strongly believe in, though, is communication. In friendships, family relationships, and romantic partnerships, communication is essential. Without it, people fill in the blanks themselves. Assumptions turn into overthinking, and overthinking often turns into conflict. This short series highlights that dynamic very clearly. I found the story both realistic and unrealistic at times. I agree with a review I saw that if a couple has been together for seven years, you would expect them to have stronger communication skills by now. That’s a fair point. At the same time, being in a relationship doesn’t mean you automatically know how to handle every challenge. Growing together is an ongoing process. Sometimes couples only recognize their communication issues when they reach a breaking point, and maybe that’s what happened here.
Age and timing also matter. If they started dating at 18 or 20 and are now 25 or 27, that represents significant personal growth. The difference in mindset between 18 and 25 is substantial same with 20 and 27. As individuals, we constantly change, emotionally, mentally, even physically. In a long-term relationship, two people have to continually adjust to those changes and learn how to move forward together. That’s where many relationships struggle. It takes two people willing to work through moments that feel like the end in order to build something lasting. Many couples choose to walk away instead. Some avoid long-term commitment afterward, while others fall into cycles of on-and-off relationships, never fully satisfied.
Sustaining a relationship requires effort, patience, and mutual commitment.

Relationships are difficult in general. But if both people are willing to put in the work, and there’s no toxicity or clear deal-breakers, that’s often the healthiest situation you can ask for. Feeling bored at times or questioning the relationship doesn’t automatically mean it’s wrong. Sometimes boredom is just comfort. However, comfort shouldn’t turn into neglect. It’s important to communicate openly and find ways to reconnect, especially when adult responsibilities start taking priority over romance.

I think this series portrayed that aspect well. I just wish we had seen more of their happiness alongside their struggles. The kiss scenes also felt too short, and unfortunately we have to pay for them, but that’s a minor complaint.

Overall, it was a decent watch. Nothing groundbreaking, but it offered a realistic look at a couple trying to rediscover their spark. Personally, I tend to prefer slow-burn stories where we watch two people fall in love from the beginning, rather than stories that start with an established relationship facing problems. Still, I respect the bold choice to focus on what happens after the honeymoon phase.

A Nostalgic Reunion That Doesn’t Quite Recapture the Magic

The movie opens with a brief recap of where A Step into the Past ends, which is helpful for anyone who hasn’t watched it in a while or never saw it at all. You won’t feel lost. It quickly sets up the direction of the story, showing that Ken wants to return to the past to rewrite history so he can become king. We learn that Ken was actually the inventor of the time travel device, but he was blamed for Hong Siu-lung’s failed mission. As a result, he was sent to prison and missed out on twenty years of his daughter’s life. Ying Ching enters the story after being ambushed by Ken and his team, even though he was already heading toward the area where Hong Siu-lung has been living. Once Hong Siu-lung receives news that Ying Ching is coming to take over the area, he decides he wants to leave.

Ying Ching goes to Hong Siu-lung for help, but you can clearly see the resentment and animosity he still carries. He likely viewed Hong Siu-lung’s departure in the original series as abandonment. At the end of the series, Hong Siu-lung chose to retire with his wives instead of standing by Ying Ching. On top of that, Hong Siu-lung knew he wasn’t the real Ying Ching, which only adds another layer of tension on Ying Ching’s end.

Jessica Hsuan and Michael Miu have always had great chemistry. There’s a moment in the forest where Ken shoots Tang Yik and grabs Wu Ting-fong, pulling her close at gunpoint. The way he looks at her honestly made me feel there was a sense of yearning on Ken’s end. I think it would’ve added even more emotional depth if they’d written that his deceased wife looked like Wu Ting-fong and had died while he was in prison. Since he already lost so much time with his family, seeing someone who resembles his wife could’ve given him even more motivation to seek power or change his past. It also could’ve given his daughter another reason to stand by her father.

The highlight for me has always been the dynamic between Hong Siu-lung and Chiu Poon, and I’m glad the movie was able to bring that back. In the original series, Hong Siu-lung never had to say, “I see you as my son.” You could feel it through the screen. In the movie, it was nice to see another heartfelt conversation toward the end, which I felt they both really needed. When Hong Siu-lung says, “These twenty years, I’ve thought of you as my son,” it truly felt like those were the words Chiu Poon, or Ying Ching, needed to hear. I think hearing that would help shape Ying Ching into a kinder ruler.

At the end, there’s a what if alternate ending. Personally, I thought it was unnecessary. I assume it was included to write in Michelle Saram’s return, but instead of adding this alternative ending, they could’ve introduced her as a new character on Ken’s team or given her a more integrated role in the main storyline. She literally just made a cameo.

I do have some questions. For those who remember, Kam Ching was pregnant at the end of the original series, yet there’s no mention of her child here. I really wish the audience had been given some kind of update. There’s also no mention of the third brother whom Hong Siu-lung swore brotherhood with, alongside Tang Yik, the second brother. I understand they probably didn’t want to bring too many characters back because of time constraints, but even a simple line explaining that someone was guarding another region would’ve been enough. I didn’t need to see everyone return, but a mention would’ve been nice, especially since the brotherhood was such an important part of the original story. Still, it was good to see Tang Yik again.

Some of the biggest issues I had with the movie were technical. The dubbing was off at times. There were Cantonese speaking actors whose dialogue went out of sync for a few seconds randomly, which was distracting. As for the special effects, I don’t know why I expected them to be good, but they were honestly terrible. Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by Marvel movies, but the effects here were really disappointing and often distracting.

That said, if you want to see the beloved cast from A Step into the Past reunite, I’d still say give it a watch. Just don’t go in with high expectations, because the original series definitely set the bar high. Usually when they do a sequel to a movie especially from a drama to a movie, due to the time constraint, plot holes are bound to happen. Hearing the new version of the theme song was a delight and brought back a strong sense of nostalgia. But if you’re expecting it to have the same charm as its predecessor, you could probably be disappointed. I still enjoyed the movie because of the returned cast.

Fan Shi qi is the worst actor

Boycott Fan Xiao Hua (fan shi qi)! I want to express my strong dissatisfaction with Fan Shi Qi's recent behavior and overall conduct. Frankly, Fan Shi Qi has become an extremely problematic figure, often acting in ways that are harmful and disruptive. His actions have negatively influenced the atmosphere and the quality of the content for viewers and fans alike. Given this, I sincerely urge him to refrain from making appearances on screen, as his presence only seems to diminish the integrity of the production.

It is deeply disappointing to see someone so prominent in the scene engage in behaviors that can be described as inappropriate or offensive, dragging not only himself but also everyone associated with him into a metaphorical "dirty hole." This metaphor highlights the idea that his actions tarnish the reputation and enjoyment of the audience, undermining the efforts put into creating quality entertainment or content.

Moreover, I believe it is crucial for Fan Shi Qi to respect the perspective of the audience—those who invest their time, money, and emotional support into following his work. Fans seek positive role models and inspiring figures, not individuals who bring negativity or controversy. Therefore, I am calling for a collective boycott of his appearances and work until he demonstrates genuine respect and improvement. Supporting such problematic behavior only encourages more of it, which is why it’s essential for fans and viewers to take a stand.

In the Year of Our Lord 2026????????????

It makes SO much sense to me that this is adapted from a novel that was released in 2009 because everything about this story felt extremely dated, all the way down to the incredibly tacky (putting it mildly) mid-credits scene featuring the main characters in Native American cosplay (no, that is not a joke).

Gyeong-rok literally falls in love with Mi-jeong because she's "not like other girls," like come onnnnn. Sure, he did a fine job in conveying that what he felt was genuine, but unfortunately the leads didn't have enough chemistry to make the slow burn feel worth it at all.

This movie also has nothing grounding it to Korean society or even a specific era (they just speak Korean and use smartphones, that's it), so while you could say it gives it a timeless quality that anyone can relate to, I found that it made the story even more bland and divorced from reality. It felt like it could have been made by anyone with any combination of actors, so it makes you wonder what the point is.

Another huge problem I had is that all the characters are incredibly shallow in their development, only getting vague references to their backgrounds, so your brain has to work overtime to fill in the blanks of these hollow shells of people. The stuff with Gyeong-rok's dad? Doesn't matter. His motivation for going to dance school? Also doesn't matter. Why does Mi-jeong live such a harrowing life to the point that she doesn't have a phone? Who knows? What's Yo-han's whole deal, and how did he even manage to get out of his depressive funk at the end? Couldn't tell you, although the movie seems to strangely imply that it's thanks to the

The ending is predictable and would be emotionally manipulative if the movie was able to make me feel anything at all. The only points I give it are for Moon Sangmin's face and the fact that the fake-out bit at the end where they threw in the ULTIMATE Kdrama cliche (iykyk) made me genuinely laugh until I was out of breath.
