Messy and Light
Heartstrings is a series that requires a great deal of initial patience as it attempts a number of themes and settles on the ensemble and romance genres. The large cast and the sampling of stories makes it initially difficult to discern who are main characters and who is support. The actors are competent and demonstrate the earnestness of the characters they portray. Singing, dancing, generational conflicts, conflict mirroring, political alliances, sabotage, and of course romance, it's all there in a light nibbly sort-of-way. The result is a drama that is engaging in moments of charm and performance, but uneven in emotional weight, often prioritizing tone and musical interludes over sustained narrative consequence. Was this review helpful to you?

What a good way to do a slow burn
So The Water is the second series in the Mega Project, and it’s already so much better than The Earth. The tension, the chemistry between the actresses, and the slow burn were all really well done. The actresses’ performances were really good, and I enjoyed them a lot. I especially loved Apo and Lada’s relationship it felt so soft, sincere, and natural. It was really fun watching them on screen, and I also really appreciated the development of their personalities and characters throughout the series.
Even the side characters left an impression on me, and so did the villains, which shows they did a really good job with the writing.
Yes, the series can be cliché at times, but honestly, I had a really great time watching it, and in the end, that’s what matters it was genuinely very entertaining.
The only bad thing to me was the episode was too long.

So funny!
honestly didn’t expect Episode 1 of Legend of the Kitchen Soldier to be this entertaining 😭 I laughed out loud so many times because the comedy timing was genuinely good and the chaotic energy never felt forced. What made it even better for me was Park Ji-hoon. He played the role so naturally that every expression and reaction made the scenes even funnier and more lovable. You can already feel the charm of his character from the first episode alone.
The episode did a great job balancing comedy, character moments, and that slightly emotional undertone that makes you want to keep watching. Definitely hooked already.

Silly and sweet and a bit insightful
If you are reading reviews for S2 then you probably know what you're getting into. S2 continues the pattern of this being a silly romcom that relies heavily on misunderstandings to create conflicts. Overall this show has so much fun along the way, just being silly, and following Ayaka's joyous attempts to love Hiroko is a blessing. That being said, the core plotline can be a bit frustrating at times. The central conflict of this season is about physical intimacy, and it is immediately very confusing when they are living together and sharing a bed that this is still completely not discussed. Throughout this show the themes of lack of communication as well as the difference between infatuation and love, are explored pretty heavily. It is frustrating that it takes them years to figure it out, but also that is kind of relatable.
In the end though, it is rare for a drama to take the time to draw a line between the version of love that is one sided and in your head based on an infatuation, and the kind of love that you practice every day by actually communicating with the other person. This show takes time while having lots of fun shenanigans, to sketch this more serious conversation.

Fun and silly
I went into this without much preconception other than it was recommended as a jdrama GL I should check out.Overall, I had a lot of fun. This is a pretty silly show, so it is very much a romcom that emphasizes the "com". That aspect is not my usual, but I still found the emotional beats satisfying and many aspects of this show very charming.
The biggest criticism is probably an obvious one, and that is the misunderstandings are dragged out way too long and repeat way too many times. The entire first season is pretty much centered on a bizarre insistence of one lead that the other lead is straight. This is never supported in any way, and drags out to an absurd extent. It is a common situation but just exaggerated for comedy. Accept it early or you won't have much fun, because it is THE centerpiece of S1.
Well the misunderstandings can get annoying, but perhaps the worst part is that what we are left with is the majority of the runtime just watching a single character just thinking to themselves and generating thoughts that are wrong and create problems. Not only is it frustrating that the conflicts are ..just made up by her having dumb ideas, but is it actually enjoyable to watch someone go down anxious thought spirals over and over and over by themselves? Where is the plot? This is actually a similar pattern we saw in Cherry Magic.
Which is sorta relatable, but do I need to live this for someone else? This may just be the line where anxiety "comedy" is not for me.

Goofy, fun, light comedy
Yes it's cringe as f...., but that's what makes it so freaking hilarious. The cast has a great sense of humor and you can tell, that they had a lot of fun filming this.
It's a really fun, light comedy, almost a little cartoonise.
It's not a profound story with a strong character development, so if that's what you looking for, then your are not the targeted audiens.

Good start to a drama that lost the pacing war
I had such high hopes for this drama. The first 3 three episodes were genuinely so intriguing and the cinematography was and honestly still is (they were consistent in at least that) stunning. The colouring was warm and nostalgic, the quiet closeup shots were visually pleasing and the overall scenery was actually nice!I gotta say, this drama could've been so much more than what it ended up being. I thought I was in for an emotional ride with a genuinely captivating storyline and good pacing. Well, at least the first part was true, it was definitely emotional. Unfortunately the storyline that started so good with a sorta-enemies-definitely-strangers to lovers kind of trope set in the 2000s, which sounded like something that was right up my alley, got lost somewhere on the way as there were a ton of unnecessary fillers: the psycho classmate, a slice of family drama that didn't fully go into depth (nor did it actually get resolved?) and ten thousand side quests at university.
The characters that were actually the most memorable were Ouyang Han and Li Ming. They had good chemistry and were actually interesting characters and not as bland as the main couple.
While I appreciate that they really tried to give us a romantic 2000s gay love story, it just didn't give me the feels and was unnecessarily draggy. Also: the whole "I love you like a friend, I'm your bro" thing is OUT. Like, come on, Yu Lei, you didn't have to take THAT long to figure it out and get over yourself. I thought we finally moved on from that brotherly bond type of love. The last episode just felt like a mess, a futile effort of giving us a grand, dramatic finale while tying up all the loose strings and somehow it was anything but satisfying... *sigh* the premise was so good and the filming too, they just couldn't keep it that way.

If you can’t release a series properly… maybe don’t release it at all.
I was lucky to find the full series thanks to someone, but honestly, it could have been so much better in many ways.

So this went wrong, huh?
Dynamite Kiss started with a lot of promise and a genuinely charming setup. The first episodes had an easy, engaging energy, with enough chemistry and intrigue to make it feel like it could develop into something fun and memorable. There was a freshness to the story in the beginning that made it easy to get invested and hopeful for where it was going.Unfortunately, as the episodes went on, the drama became messier and increasingly unfocused. The plot seemed to lose direction, piling on unnecessary twists and awkward developments that felt more frustrating than exciting. Instead of building naturally on the strong foundation it started with, it became cluttered with inconsistent pacing and decisions that made the story feel disconnected from its original appeal.
What makes this especially disappointing is that the charm was clearly there at the start, but it slowly disappeared under all the chaos. The emotional beats stopped landing, the characters became harder to connect with, and by the end it felt like a completely different drama from the one that had initially pulled me in. Overall, I’d give it 2/5 stars—not terrible, but a frustrating example of wasted potential.

For a series from a smaller company, this was actually pretty decent.
It wasn’t perfect, but it did better than I expected and was an okay watch overall.

This feels like a warm hug.
Hidden Love is one of those dramas that feels soft, comforting, and unforgettable at the same time. From the very first episodes, it creates a warm atmosphere that makes every interaction feel meaningful. The story balances romance, family dynamics, emotional growth, and healing in a way that feels natural instead of overly dramatic. It easily became one of my favorite dramas because of how emotionally genuine and comforting it is.What makes Hidden Love special is that even the quieter moments feel important. Small gestures, conversations, and expressions carry emotional weight, making the romance feel sincere and believable. Many scenes feel memorable because of how subtle they are. The eye contact, quiet support, and small moments of affection often say more than dramatic declarations.
Hidden Love is more than just a romance drama — it is a comforting coming-of-age story about love, timing, emotional growth, and feeling understood by someone. It is the kind of drama that stays with you after finishing it.
For me, it deserves a full 5/5 stars because of its emotional sincerity, lovable characters, beautiful romance, and comforting atmosphere. It is one of my favorite dramas and one I would absolutely rewatch.

Best K-Drama in existance
Months have passed since I have watched this series, but every other week I have a moment where I stop, and have to think about this series. It is hard to put into words, what this series is: It is about everything, every drama is about. Love, jealousy, hatred, betrayal and so on.
However, this drama feels "real". Not only that, it makes you empathize with the characters. You are happy when they are happy, you are unhappy, when they are unhappy. There are no "cheap effects" that are plaguing so many K-Dramas.
There is nothing more to say without spoiling anything.
Watch it!

High School BL with heart and a twist
Contrast, while following one of the oldest and possibly most formulaic tropes in BL – the high school romance with Popular Guy x Quiet Smart Boy – managed to break free from certain stereotypes tied to the trope. Instead of giving us the same old recycled gay awakening with unnecessarily long pining arc plus slapstick comedy shoehorned in at every opportunity, Contrast gave us a refreshing spin of the old, beloved BL high school concept: a closeted gay guy and an emotionally burdened popular guy who find solace in each others' company.Akira's storyline was accurate in terms of authenticity when it comes to being closeted and dealing with the frustrations and self doubt that comes with it. His obvious struggle was so emotional and hit so hard precisely because it represents the reality of many young queer teens. It made me cry crocodile tears tbh. I really appreciated the fact that they included this aspect of queerness.
As for Kanata, his image of Popular Confident Heartthrob makes the reveal of his insecurities and detachment all the more surprising but adds such a nice layer to his character. This is something this show has managed to achieve with the main characters: instead of keeping them one-dimensional, it allowed flaws and gave them real struggles.
I truly enjoyed the bond between Kanata and Akira, you could feel how much they care about one another. They were very very loveable.
The relationship between Akira and his tutor left a bad taste in my mouth, despite appreciating the honest, open conversation they had. It just didn't sit right with me. They could've kept the tutor as an emotional pillar, a supporting net for Akira, if you will, but adding that physical aspect to the relationship was not it for me.
Still, the rest of the show and the remaining side characters, such as Mizuki with her caring, supporting nature, were definitely likeable (I just love Mizuki, she's so sweet). The pacing throughout these 8 episodes was definitely to my taste, they didn't drag it too much, although I would've liked a little more time at the end to see Kanata and Akira moving forward academically, as well as with their new status as a couple; the ending felt a bit rushed.
Overall I really liked the storytelling of Contrast. The premise was nothing extraordinary or particularly catching, but just intriguing enough and the storytelling felt open and to the point. I can confidently say this drama is a nice watch for anyone who enjoys high school love with a tad of emotional drama, but nothing too heavy or serious. It's simple in its structure yet nuanced and well done.
