Love as a Sanctuary: Finding Safety and Stability in 'The Best Thing
The Best Thing (爱你) is a modern romance drama that presents love as a mature, serene, and realistic emotional process. Its plot moves linearly without excessive conflict, allowing interpersonal relationships to develop logically and naturally. The story focuses on internal struggles that mirror the reality of adult life, such as past trauma, fear of commitment, as well as career pressures and social expectations. The characters are portrayed humanely and consistently with clear emotional arcs, where love does not happen instantly but grows alongside self-awareness, emotional maturity, and the ability to build trust. The drama's main strength lies in the highly natural and captivating chemistry between Zhang Linghe and Xu Ruohan; Zhang Linghe convincingly plays a gentle and gentlemanly Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, while Xu Ruohan successfully brings to life a dynamic career woman who harbors emotional vulnerability, making their interactions feel authentic and touching.
From a psychological perspective, The Best Thing aligns with attachment theory and the concept of emotional maturity, portraying a romantic relationship as a space for emotional healing rather than a source of conflict. This nuance is further reinforced by the subtle presentation of emotions and cinematography that carries a soft and reflective tone. Overall, the drama conveys the message that the best love is not the most dramatic one, but rather one that provides a sense of safety, emotional stability, and mutual growth, making it relevant and meaningful for adult viewers who appreciate realism and emotional depth in romantic stories.

Chemistry, yes but focus was on other stuff
This was actually good. I liked the 6 main leads dynamics. It is always funny and weird how when a female dresses like a man, no one recognizes them even when their voice sounds like a female. The crown prince and Min Jae I had an okay chemistry to me just that to me, the episodes were more focused on proving her innocence and also finding how to break his curse.
I enjoyed Kim Myeong Jin and Jang Ga Ram dynamics. He is funny and smart and she was going with the flow.
If I remember clearly, there was only one kissing scene and that is at the end.
To say it is 20 episodes, I wish they had cut out some parts and show more of Min Jae I and Yi Hwan romantic relationship.

Shaitan and psychopath made for each other ♥️
The best drama which depicts revenge, love, and comedy. I watch only a few K-dramas, and this is one of them. In the starting episode, we predict that Iblis is ruthless, but when Ka-young kissed him for the first time, we felt his warmth towards his master. Many characters play an important role in this series, like Minji, Miju, Ijreal, Irem, and Sade. In the last episode, I saw a funny chemistry between Grandma and Ijreal 😂. I like the ending of this show where they both united eternally. In India, we say, 'Pyar acche se acche shaitan ko badal deta hai.' We saw this slogan come true in this series. Was this review helpful to you?
Potential not exploited
The beginning is weak, the ending unimaginative. Apart from the barely tolerable English subtitles... the boys are good at excessive alcohol consumption and irrational behaviour. The dialogues are very simplistic. There is also little character development. Changes in the plot occur abruptly – seemingly out of nowhere. There are a few heartwarming scenes, yes. Perhaps one shouldn't expect too much psychological depth in a romantic comedy like this. But for the most part, the characters remain very superficial.
It's a shame, because the story itself has potential.

Only Cho Yeo Jeong Ate
The story was weird, what did Mi Rae's side plot have to do with the main story? Also I really didn't buy her character at all, the actress wasn't very good or charismatic at all. Soo Ho's character was similarly bland because the actor was dull and uncharismatic. I think they were both hired only for their looks. Woo Sung was funny and also kind of scummy and the actor did a good job portraying that, so I liked his character. Other than that, the only highlight of the show was Yeo Joo, who is extremely likeable and interesting throughout. Was this review helpful to you?
REAL KDRAMA
Okay so the first time i tried to watch this i dropped bcz it was soo cringe normally i love cliche things but this felt lame so i dropped but i knew i was going to finish it one day bcz it is iconic and a classic for me and it has happened finally and no matter how cringe and stupid it is i love this drama. Yeah It was dragged so much and so dramatic. Plot was weak. But I love it, I love the feeling I felt while watching. I love the first episodes the most. That cliche summer love drama feeling. Perfect🤌🏻 This is real kdrama. I love 2013 and i miss it and i miss old kdrama romcoms they have just this vibe we can't get these days. When i watch this I feel like im going back in time like im in middle school and those sunny summers watching summer series with rich ML and poor FL ✨️THE NOSTALGIA✨️😔 Lee Min Ho's peak times. Every kdrama lover' s love was him in those years. I was in 6th grade and i remember it alll. Super Junior and all ughh🥲 idk different level of warmness(?), pureness? simplicity? YES SIMPLICITY AND SINCERITY lol in general I missed those years🥲 The actors and all weren't white washed and acting like robots in awards and idk everything is sooooooo manufacturated, over-commercialiazed and curated personalities everything is branding nothing is organic anymore. Anywayyyy there is a fact that I looove every actor/actress here too. Where could we get a cast like this again? And in these roles???I miss Park Hyung Sik in this type of roles. I miss all of them actually😁.
Lee Min Ho is really like a rich kid. He fits perfect these roles and i can't imagine him in a different role. He feels almost inseparable from the rich-boy, Kim Tan image it feels real.
Krystal was perfect for Bona i would loooove to see her in a character like that as main lead🥲 Kim Ji Won really fits these type of characters i hope she makes a new one after Queen of Tears🥲🥲 Too sad that we won't see her as high school girl anymore her character (Rachel) was so iconic for me.
Every character here is iconic, i love the fact they keep giving side characters screen time and having lots of them. Though it wasn't long scenes (wish they were longer especially whole squat scenes) they didn't felt disconnected from the story.
I feel like we are getting short of this type high school romcoms or i might be a little overdramatic right now. But we don't even get kbs school series anymore🥹
This drama could've been really good with a better script but i love the way it is too. It fits perfect for 2013 summer drama feeling.

Finished this drama at 3 am at night and eyes swollen in morning going to school is pretty bad!
i would give the best 10 stars or 100 stars. But ost wasn’t fitting the song, however when i realized at the very sad scenes while i was crying, osts were doing their job which made me cried more. If you hate sad endings, or i don’t think this is counted as sad ending it is happy ending but more questionable, unreasonable, open ending. 24 episodes were not enough for me when last few episodes just made me cry at 3 am. I never thought it would be this sad but at least it’s little bit better than other drama’s fictional world travel. This drama took my whole soul away at 3 am.😭Was this review helpful to you?

The Boy Next World 〜並行世界の恋人〜 (Episodes 9-10)
I finished this remake with mixed feelings. The core twist — that the “parallel world” premise was actually a lie born from long-time unrequited love — is bold. However, for me, the transition from SF mystery to emotional deception never fully landed. Even knowing the twist in advance (since I watched the Thai version), the narrative still felt structurally uneven.
What kept me watching until the end was Hamaya Takuto’s performance as Kaede. He portrayed confusion, vulnerability, and emotional conflict with sincerity. His soft expressions and tearful restraint added depth that the script itself sometimes struggled to provide.
The drama explores themes of obsession versus love, emotional dependency, and the need to choose one’s own heart. Those ideas are interesting on paper, but the execution felt somewhat difficult to emotionally connect with.
I appreciate the attempt at something different, but overall, this story simply wasn’t for me.
I am curious about the announced spin-off, though — especially since it seems to expand on the remaining parallel-world concept.

A well balanced visually pleasing romance
I'll try to keep it shortpoints the drama excelled in: cinematography, production, acting, story, main lead characters, main lead chemistry, music.
points that needed improvement: scenario, second male character, side couple, story wrapup.
the cinematography: you will feel like you are enjoying a landscape photo gallery, super artistic with the color hues, only shooting in picturesque locations around the world was nice, though in Seoul as usual it sometimes felt over done a tad, but I could still understand, afterall you would not be advertising all the beauty of other countries and skipping the homeland.
production and directing: Top notch! every sequence and scene and angle well thought of, they didn't hold back with their budget and it definitely showed. most of the drama including scenes in closed locations, or the delusion sequences were a feast for the eyes.
acting: great job by both of our main leads, comedy, romance and Melo-wise. I also appreciated the choice of the male lead if nothing else but for his deep and emotional voice, it totally suited the role and effect, she was connecting to his voice and feeling his presence close to her, so the moments his voice plays in her ears, you are bound to get butterflies.
story: well balanced mix of genres, comedy, romance, melodrama, horror, psychological thriller... jumps between the genres felt smooth and natural.
I appreciated how they showed the backstory of each of the two leads just enough to grab us in without wasting too much screen time in needless flashbacks.
the psychological thriller part was unexpected and certainly added a dimension to the story. the transition from seeing and hearing hallucinations at first to eventually being controlled by her showed the desperation, fear and anxiety she was going through, having lived all her life believing she was undeserving of being loved due to her childhood trauma while at the same time falling deeply for someone and yearning to be loved back.
characters: in terms of excelling I would keep it just at the main lead couple, I loved their first encounter, the progression of their relationship and them both learning to understand and be there for each other. I can not say that we saw major character development, but still I enjoyed looking back at their journey and seeing how far they came. other characters I will mention later.
main lead chemistry: simply put lovely. you felt the tension and emotions just from their eyes and expressions, though many times the words they uttered would feel different and overly poetic to a jarring level, I certainly enjoyed their romantic journey.
music: great vocals, catchy songs and fitting original soundtrack.
points that needed some improvement:
scenario: although I had noticed it was a Hong sister's drama the first time the show was being announced, I eventually forgot and went into it not knowing. while watching I found myself a couple of times needing to rewind to comprehend the dizzingly-complicated interactions and bickering, somehow I could guess that must have been the drama written by the Hong sisters. I am not saying I hated all their interactions, especially since most of time it was by design, i.e. the complicated nonsense was was the FL's signature method she intentionally used as an escape mechanism. but still the amount of times, you could not fully wrap your head around how certain lines could lead up to a certain end result, it was sometimes a little bit frustrating, especially having sometimes the need to rewind to listen and read the translations a couple of times, and still not manage to follow the trajectory of the conversation. still I have to admit, comparing to their earlier dramas where it felt like listening to a drama made for radio, where every sentence uttered felt like a line out of a play, the Hong sisters' signature over the top convoluted & dramatic prose, they sure did a tone down of that here.
the second male lead: his character was overall nice but ended up as a mere story prop, I just felt his romantic feelings were sudden and could have been given more time to mature. despite saying that, still his romantic arc felt somehow more believable when compared to the second couple (producer and manager); theirs's was just too sudden out of the blue contrived on a physical attraction level let alone deep emotional one. it almost felt like they were shoving it down the viewers throats downing it with sudden and uncharacteristic skin-ship. I mean she in particular, her character which was portrayed at first didn't give the impression she would be one to move bases so fast and sudden. their whole "romance" felt totally unnecessary, I would have rather had them fix her long time relationship to her fiancé and wrapping up her arc with a wedding, than using his brother/her fiancé as a story tool like that.
the story wrap-up: the drama could have been 16 episode format if it could have helped ease the rushed feeling the last episode gave. I am all for shorter dramas don't get me wrong, but if the writers opt to throw a bombshell in our faces midway through the last episode, and choose to use a Kdrama trope such as last minute separation, I believe they could have at least wrapped things up more neatly. I was thinking at the very least, give us one post credit scene...anything for crying out loud. I mean you gave the trauma she suffered from another dimension last minute, you thankfully chose to make her face it and not run from it, maybe give the whole thing more airtime or depth not just a few curt words from her aunt and uncle. also the unrelatable second couple got to give a glimpse of commitment putting a ring on it, don't you think the main leads were deserving of something similar.
overall impressions: great recommendation if you're looking for a light romance comedy with a hint of drama and thriller. it sure had it flaws like any other drama, but you will not regret the watch.

At What Point Is Enough Enough?
This movie, overall was a great watch.I enjoyed the music, the scenes, you name it, I loved it. But I found myself struggling to like the FL. NOT the actress, I think she did great, but the character. The character goes through a lot of hardships and you see how it impacts her relationships; she keeps her distance, doesn't believe she deserves goodness, doesn't share much about herself, and doesn't trust others. My question to that is at what point is enough enough? There has to be a decision to move forward and not let the past dictate your life. She does make that choice but at the signs of trouble, she falls right back into old habits and disappears.
I believe the FL lives her life with the mindset of "I don't want to inconvenience anyone, I don't deserve to be an inconveience anyone" but she never ASKS IF she's an inconvenience to anyone, she never ASKS her friends if they're ok, and she never offers to TELL her friends if she's how she's doing and if she's ok. She's already made the decision that she's an inconvenience and therefore the best thing for those around her is if SHE makes the decision for ALL of them by removing herself out of their lives.
That isn't love.
You can't say "I love you, so I'll make this decision without talking to you first, without getting your input first, and without thinking of how it'll affect you first. But because I love you, trust me, it's for the best." That's very selfish and self-centered. That isn't love.
I also found myself getting frustrated with the ML. Loving someone doesn't mean you have no boundaries with them. He has no boundaries of proper treatment from the woman he says he loves. He has boundaries with friends, coworkers, etc, but not her. That was annoying because the FL treats him how she BELIEVES is the best way to tram him. She genuinely believes she's doing the right thing and because he has no boundaries with her, he doesn't correct her; instead just coddles her and enables her selfish tendencies. That isn't love either.
I believe a person can be a victim and still be selfish outside of that victimhood.
Both FL and ML seem trauma bonded, trying to relive missed opportunities which is never good.
Overall, it was a beautiful watch- the cinematography of it all- I wouldn't watch it again (simply because once is enough for me with most shows/movies), but it was hard to witness this type of relationship.
Maybe I was too invested in the realism of it all ?

Too predictable
The main that saved this drama is the lead actors. The characters are too immature, the story turns nonsensical too oftenly and the ending was quite disappointing for me. The other couples are not particulary endearing either. The main plot twist is who ended up being the real villain and why they turned that way. Besides that, everything is too predictable and there are too many useless misunderstanding, several times it just makes the show draggy...

"It didn't seem fair that he could see you when you couldn't see him."
My header was between "I ruined everything." and the one I ended up choosing. This drama was my binging weekend project. I've watched and loved numerous drama's and characters portrayed by the two leads. This was a magical one. I think the other time language was mentioned in a similar context was The temperature of love.
Everyone comes from different backgrounds, has different experiences, dreams, and beliefs that they live by. If common sense is only common within the world you exist, that sense must not be common outside of that space. It is the same with language and communication. Humans and us as people all have various methods of communicating our feelings and the time in which we choose to also varies. I think this drama does a beautiful and job of spreading that message. One that Mr. Kim puts quite well with his own line:
“There are as many languages as there are people. Everyone speaks their own language. That’s why people misunderstand, misinterpret, and offend each other.”
Why are drama's so hell bent on misunderstandings, heartbreaks, and conflicts that drive main leads away from each other a bit. I've learned that it is to provide context for the character, a chance to reflect, and a means of opening the door to understanding of one another. Because “If the messenger misinterprets a message based on personal bias, it can lead to a ridiculous misunderstanding.” It is funny because this is something people do all the time. We make assumtions, we let our own Do rami climb our shoulder and we give in to her thoughts. We run away, we fight, we assume, and we misunderstand.
Now, you are probably wondering where all this rambling is going...I am too haha. In the context of the drama, Cha Mu Hee had something she wanted to take to the grave. She did not want to open up and lay things bare. She was unable to communicate in the same, straightforward and upfront way that Joo Ho Jin was able to. She ran in circles and stole his heart instead. But as an interpreter, to understand and translate for her, he had to see her as she was, what thoughts she had, her intentions, the context, and emotions that surrounded those words. Similar to how we need those vocal cues in speech and how texts can lead to confusion because we don't have that extra information to inform us. Is he breaking up with me or saying he loves me? Is it both? The past that led her to be unable to stand being seen and exposed. The running away and retreat that left him baffled and defenseless. For a guy who has seen and intereacted with so many individuals with different walks of life, for being able to understand and translate so many languages. It was funny to see him try to earnestly nagivate learning her's. The way she communicates, her habits, her preferences, her past, her modivations, and even her intentions. In the same way you ask your crush's friend what his favorite candy is to buy it for him later, it was endearing to see him put all that confusion down...get over the fact that they spoke different langauges....and tried to understand her through Do rami (when he wasn't quite fluent enough to understand Cha Mu Hee).
She probably felt pressure to understand herself, to voice herself before he gives up and walks away. "All you need to do is leave this room and be happy." I'm glad he was able to pull her out of that self destruction. It reminded me of my friend telling me that her boyfriend's great strength is his ability to know what is on her mind. Now, I see that it was probably a series of intense affection, interest, care, and time invested...experience...that made that possible. People like that don't just fall down from trees, even in kdrama land.
I also loved that while he was struggling with her language, he was moved by something else, her actions. He in turn also replied with his own actions. Seeing and wishing for the auroras. The acceptance of the painful happy ending song. Even the dry wine in an attempt to console oneself and translate the love of Hiro.
Actually, I quite liked the Hiro plot line. I didn't think I would at first. It was...the what if that so many drama's do. If only I had gotten there first. If only I had told her. In this case... if only she had understood. Hiro, even if you guys didn't speak the same language...or even the same language of love....I think you guys spoke a beautiful language called friendship. The care, concern and candy she offered you. The experience of a hot dog and her spontaneously happy self was able to reach you, even if her words did not. It is a shame, that she did not hear you beautiful confession...that happened in various ways over various events. But she heard it in the end. That..you had to be such a dick to her in the beginning...I liked Joo Ho Jin's message. One that spoke of difficulties of communication despite speaking the same language...that so many factors are at play for the love that played out in front of us.
Cha Mu Hee...you must have been so scared. So grown for a child that had to go through so much. Despite that, the way you smiled and wished so earnestly, so despite yourself was very admirable. The world was brighter whenever you smiled. You didn't ruin anything. My heart sank for you, when he told you not to run away and you went and stopped him right before he was able to walk across. Wishing happiness for others is always going to be easier than believing you are deserving of that same happiness. Were you scared? Scared that you finally had something you wanted, someone you loved and wanted to be happy with? I know your delusions reflected your wants and that they were dazzling, beautiful, because you believed those moments could not possibly exist in reality. For someone so straightforward, you can afford to be honest about that. Do rami may have been a nightmare, but Ho jin was your daydream. One that came true. Dreams come true and you are deserving of a life that makes you are feel like you are living in a dream. That reality, is something everyone deserves. Go Youn Jung ...The same sort of smile from resident playlist, one that could melt a million souls. Eyes that can sweep other off their feet and send them into a crazy dose of confusion. The actor you are.
Kim Seon Ho, I am very happy that you are back. You make all of your characters come to life with so much sincerity, grace, and respect. I can almost feel you affection and care for them. Maybe that is why your eyes always tell a thousand words, your gaze always reflecting their inner thoughts, and why all the characters seem so soulful, breathtaking, and lovable. My heart always hurts a bit when I see you on the screen. I always learn so much. More important, I feel happy when you do. I will continue to keep an eye on you and cheer you on for a long time.
Ho jin ah, at first I was a bit frustrated due to you walking across the street and RIGHT PAST HER. But the minute the parallel hit, and you disappeared when she looked back. It hit me and I think I understood. No one wants to make the one they love feel like that. On the run. You were brave and just as kind as before. Going along with her foolishness, seeing the waterfall, and being swayed by your emotions. Was it such a bad thing? To be told to stop when you just worked up the courage to take that step. I would have felt wronged too. And you chose to accept and go along with her decision anyway. How must it have felt? To walk and talk with the love of your life through the night and understand her world, just to wake up the next day for those experiences to not have existed. To say goodbye. I think as bittersweet as it was...I thought of Hwasa's goodbye song. How even in the end, you can still wish the best and remember someone for all their good, in spite of everything. To have a good goodbye. But, the world you protected is still the same. Next time, don't go off alone to drink wine, or be okay with just banana milk. I'm glad your effort paid off. Thank you for making my heart flutter with your voice. For easing me into the heartbreak with your sturdy words and understanding. For letting her into your world and trying to understand hers. For supporting her in spite of everything..both Mu Hee and Do rami, were probably really happy for you taking their side.
language was also in the cinematogrpahy... that was able to capture the beauty, the sadness, and the story so well.
WELL this turned into a really long thing..so I will stop here. I should really start planning these out before write them, because the brain dumps are getting unreal. I sort of miss them already. I miss the meeting of random strangers that had no childhood friend, or younger fated story that connected them. it was just a story. One of two people meeting each other, working together, getting intrigued and facinated by each other, falling in love with each other, going through rough patches with each other, and well...continuing to be in love.
To the readers and watchers:
Loving someone is learning their language without demanding they become fluent in yours. It’s patience over certainty, actions over explanations, and choosing to stay when misunderstanding would be easier. We hurt each other not because we don’t care, but because we translate through fear, memory, and longing. And love (daydreaming...real love) is the decision to keep listening anyway. Their love was a love lost in translation. It was also a love of learning each other's language.
May this kind of love find you. Stay away from me though.
Finally...Can you translate this love, as much as I love you. Goodbye.

Funny, Sweet, and Surprisingly Natural
First of all, My Page in the 90’s uses the familiar “transported to another world” trope—but it’s funnier, cuter, and overall much better executed than expected. The drama knows exactly what it wants to be and leans into its charm without trying too hard.Wang Yuwen is completely in her element here. She feels so natural that it’s almost like her real personality is bleeding into the character, making her performance effortless and very endearing. Chen Xing Xu is also great—no awkward moments at all—and the chemistry between them? It’s chemistry-ing, no question. They’re genuinely adorable together.
Personal opinion, but he seems much more at ease here than in Love Between the Lines, and it really shows in his expressions and interactions. Everything feels lighter and more natural.
My only real complaint is the last four episodes. They dragged more than necessary, relying too much on repetitive flashbacks and reminiscing scenes. We get it—they’re sad, reflective, emotional—but those moments could’ve been replaced with more meaningful content instead of replaying the same beats over and over.
That said, My Page in the 90’s remains a cute, enjoyable watch with strong chemistry and a warm, easygoing vibe—perfect if you’re in the mood for something light but well made.

DNF - I like SWL but....
At this point I don't even know why I am still watching this show as I keep FF-ing to all the interesting parts (interactions between main lead and main lead and her cousin) and even then, they are not THAT interesting.I remember liking SWL so I wanted to watch this but I agree with others in thinking that the main lead/couple aren't giving any chemistry. When the camera is focused on one of them they do a good job with flirty banter but when they are both in the screen its meh.
The first 5 episodes with the FL and her shitty college friend group almost caused me to drop the show but I was waiting for SWL to make an appearance.
When he finally does show up and seems interested but resentful of her finding out the reason why was the reason for me to continue watching the show. I'm on episode 21 and I might have missed it or maybe it's coming up soon but I already found out the answer while looking at other reviews spoilers. He was upset because they were supposed to have gone on a blind date at some point and she didn't remember? Why was he so obsessed with someone he never got to meet?
Another thing that threw me off was that the FL looks like she is 16 years old in this show and while I know the 2 actors are only 2-3 years apart, the way she is dressed ages her down and it almost made their relationship and his pursuing her inappropriate. And i'm not saying that SWL looks old but I think he pulled off looking like he 28-30 years old in the show.
As others have mentioned, his background as being a medical prodigy to successful businessmen was so unbelievable.
Anyways, i'm dropping this. Oh! One good thing, the soundtrack was pretty good!

The dumbest people on the planet solve a supernatural crime
Story starts off good but crashes and burns at the end. This could have been a 6 episode series but they had to stretch it out to 13 episodes. And they do this by using tried and tested method of making the characters take dumb actions to add filler material. From "oh no my friend is in grave danger but first let's flirt a bit" to "I'm surrounded by enemies but let me ignore them and ask this dude if he's doing okay and allow me to get jumped", you find them all in this goddess forsaken series. Was this review helpful to you?
