Love O2O: 5/8/2025 ~ 5/13/2025

I really hate high hopes for this show because it looked really interesting and it started off really good. The characters were all like able and the romance actually progressed really quickly. This genuinely surprised me considering how many episodes there were, I expected it to be more of a slow burn. However the reason why I rated it so low is because of the kiss scenes that two place between the two leads. There chemistry was there but when the kiss scenes happened the FL just sorta stood there like a dead fish. She didn’t move nor did she kiss back. When this happened the first time I assumed it was there first kiss but then it just kept happening. This made their romance not as believable and sorta took me out of the story.

Let me acknowledge that I do not normally watch modern dramas, no matter who makes them. Let me also acknowledge that my best friend kept telling me it was very good show so I gave it a chance.

I think that the show was unique in its delivery of a plot around video games. This resonated with me, the viewer, because I play video games and I play them a lot. I enjoyed the in-world experience because it resonated with my love of historical dramas and fantasy. I liked that the story was about two people who loved one another unconditionally, and I liked how the male lead was so supportive.

The story is very sweet, with little conflict. It is more about how two people meet and fall in love. Because there were no conflicts or character growth, because both characters were so great, I lost interest in it. As a result, I would not re watch it and I would recommend it to people who prefer light love stories with a lot of fluff. There were no family problems in this show, nothing. It was just the natural growth of a healthy relationship. I would not compare it to Boss and Me because there is a ton more character growth and conflicts that they go through. But it has the same tone of two people who love one another unconditionally. And both leads respect one another. No one is encountering a mean or cruel partner, no one is trying to hurt the other in petty ways because of petty misunderstandings. I gave it an 8 because Love 020 was a great drama and delivers on what it promises. It just isn't my type. I try not to be biased. An example of another show that wasn't my type but I gave a low rating, for context, was Perfect Couple because I think that the drama was confused about what story it was trying to tell and it failed in what it delivered.

✒He Only Plays For Keeps °6.8° °Good°

Gamers don't need a dating website because they can make good matches while gaming🎧. Our protags are fans of the RPG (role playing game) Chinese Ghost Story/CGS. FL, Wei Wei, even has an in-game spouse - until she gets dumped. She won't be in the dumps for long, though: Her white knight is in the wings.

Computers don't just facilitate hook-ups; they make identity theft pretty easy, too. While Er Xi may not have stolen Wei Wei's 🆔, she did borrow Wei Wei's CGS game character, which leads /Wei Wei's/ crush to pursue /Er Xi/ in the game, thinking he's hanging out, virtually, with Wei Wei. It also leads men at Er Xi's summer internship to believe that SHE'S the top female CGS player. Er Xi, unawares, is getting all kinds of attention in the name of Bei Wei Wei, and Bei Wei Wei wouldn't have it any other way-way-way.

L020 is a 2016 release that is rated 8.3 on MDL. It is 1 season consisting of 30 45-minute episodes. It's obvious that the show was a precursor to the King's Avatar which also stars Yang Yang. (KA is great, but it contains no romance. It's about a RPG competition). Many players suspect that our FL, Bei Wei Wei, is not really a girl because she refuses to post photos online, and no other chick has come close to her top-tier ranking. She's jilted by her in-game husband in ep1. Because of laptop problems she ends up having to complete a duel at an internet cafe where our ML, Xiao Nai, (the elusive top-ranked player) gets a l👀k at her in the middle of her spectacular gameplay. He knows who she is now, but she didn't look back at him to see him looking back at her, as it says on Mr. Girlie's shirt. She don't look like no dude! She's😍gorgeous. When Bei Wei Wei's game character shows up to her ex's new in-game wedding, our ML is there as well. He proposes marriage to her. It's just a gaming marriage, but for her it's Cinderella✨time.

Xiao Nai, or Yi Xiao Nai He, as he's known in the game (Yang Yang), is a student of legendary popularity. He's the best looking, he's the smartest, and he's even good at 🏀. But he's as cold as a snow leopard's claws in January. He and his roommates/his bros have designed a new game and are preparing to launch it soon. Zheng Shuang plays FL, Bei Wei Wei / Lu Wei Wei Wei. She's a computer major and she's also the “Belle” of the Computer department. Between school, tutoring, and gaming, she has no time for love. Being pretty attracts jealous attention from other women, especially a couple of the mean girls on campus. Wei Wei and her dorm-mates apply for an internship at one of the big software companies that, perchance, wants to buy Xiao Nai's game. Her identity, in part, gets switched with her perky and adorable roomie, Zhao Er Xi (Mao Xiao Tong) because Er Xi panicked in her interview and gave them Wei Wei's game 🆔 as her own. This leads to identity mix-ups. Several people believe they've met the gamer Lu Wei Wei IRL, but they've actually met Er Xi.

Wei Wei's new game marriage is wonderful💖. She starts to wonder about who the person is behind her game husband's character. Should she meet him? In the meantime, back at school, Xiao Nai unexpectedly sits next to her in class(?!). Game-hubby wants to meet. She goes to the rendezvous point… Why is Xiao Nai, the untouchable legend, hanging around here today? Imagine her shock when he scoops her up, takes her to the inter-department 🏀 game and then lets e'erbody know they are now dating. The way it plays out is fun. They already got to know eachother online. He's way ahead of her as he's been able to observe her IRL for awhile, and when he makes a move, it's for the win. The rest of the show is dealing with the petty tricks, jealousy and fallout that happens when these two popular items are removed from the shelf. They are each taken, now, and not everyone has an easy time accepting that without a fight.

For a modern-day Chinese feature this is pretty good.

Yang Yang, who plays the ML, Xiao Nai, does sell the viewer on his attraction to our FL, and he manages some top notch romantic moments. His voice in L020 and You Are My Glory sounds deep-fake. I think his voice in Kings's Avatar is the real him. Can he act? I wasn't sure that he could, going into this show. I've only seen him play all-powerful all-knowing slightly smug male leads, and I've only seen him in modern-day Chinese features, which are completely different from Chinese fantasy and historical features. It's time to watch Who Rules The World to crystallize his assessment. Regardless of acting skill, he's quite beautiful, and he also contributes to the soundtrack. He's no Kun Chen (from The Rise of the Phoenixes) but he'll do. His game hair is awful, like Qin Dynasty politician hair.

Zheng Shuang is the FL., Bei Wei Wei. She's sweet and demure. She remains too demure throughout the show which gets a tad tedious. Mao Xiao Tong plays her BFF Zhao Er Xi. Despite references to her average looks, she is an adorable pixie. She actually does look like Cao Guang's (Bai Yu) 🐱, Coffee. They usually have her hair and costume looking dreadful. She has short hair that has grown too sloppy and needs 2" taken off, but she is routinely referred to as plain or even homely when she's actually a knockout.

Speaking of Bai Yu and Yang Yang, the show has lots of beautiful men. Bai Yu, sans glasses and curls, is a very handsome man when inside the game, CGS. Xiao Nai's friends are well casted. Zheng Ye Cheng is "Girlie," Hao Mei, and he might be better looking than Yang Yang. He's stern, masculine, and sexy in The Sleepless Princess-9.1. I never recognized him - that's good acting! Vin Zhang as K.O. (he is fabulous in Eternal Love-8.3) & Cui Hang, playing Qiu Yong Hou, compliment the visual feast, and Niu Jun Feng is not only a nice looking guy, but he has an endearing quality as Yu Ban Shan. Hao Bo plays the gynophobic Ah Shuang. His fear of women is why the fledgling company cannot hire females. Xiao Ling (Qin Yu) & Yu Yao (Guan Xin) are the other two girl dormies. They don't get as much screen time as Er Xi. They never bring everybody together, which is a shame. I kept waiting for it, but it wasn't to be.

The primary romance is low drama and pleasant as a warm breeze. Nothing much happens, and the show has that "Prozac" effect that Chinese modern-day dramas all seem to have. While Chinese historical and fantasy pieces are superb in every way, their modern-day stuff is weirdly relaxing to watch despite being deeply flawed. There are at least two secondary romances that are quite cute but left mostly unfinished - they absolutely should have been wrapped up better - that's not a minor flaw. The 🐱 appears to be in serious distress in a couple scenes. In the States, I think it would have created a stir; I was concerned for that kitty. He's a gorgeous feline. Just as in You Are My Glory-5.9, which also features the comely Mr. Yang, L020 is too focused on the good looks of the leads. 20% of the dialogue seems to be about the exterior appearance of the characters, and that is so skin-deep. (I realize that I may have committed 20% of this article to what the actors look like… perhaps that's hypocritical🙄, but script & dialogue and critique & commentary are not the same thing). The acting is often stiff, the dialogue is often unimaginative and witless, and the plot drivers such as game dynamics, corporate maneuvering, and technical workings are not explained in the least. Don't expect to learn anything interesting: This show will only bring on rhythmic breathing - and that's enough.

They play completely respectable 🎸 riffs during some of the action. I've seen China rock-out better than Japan, at times. Both of them rock out better than Korea. Korea, on the other hand, reigns supreme in the realm of pop and soft rock. Anyway, the soundtrack isn't bad at all. All-in-all, L020 is a show that romance junkies, who don't get too prickly over technical mediocrity, will like. With the benefit of foreknowledge, I would still watch it again for the first time. Technical excellence alone doesn't make a show good. It must speak to the heart as well. L020 is food for the heart, not the brain, but its true payoff is its Prozac💊effect.

The series was amazing! There was no jealousy, no mistrust and especially no love triangle, which was probably one of the biggest pozitives of the show. I also loved the concept of it: the way they incorporated the gaming aspect was literally mind-blowing. I wish there were more scenes ingame, but overall, this was pretty good as well. The leads were great as well; the actress was pretty, and the male lead was very handsome. I loved the company aspect as well. I liked how they competed for projects and I found the episodes involving work exciting as well. A huge plus was the groups friendship. They created such a tight group, where they all trusted one another fully. I was a bit jealous, I wanted to be a part of a gang as well...
On the other hand, I'd like to name 2 negatives as well. While I overall liked the main leads, I found that the actor and actress had awful chemistry together. I unterstood that Zheng Shuang was playing an innocent college girl, but at the same time, she had the charisma of a pen. Their romatic scenes together were quite cringey.
The other thing I didn't like about this drama were the best friend of the main character and her love interest. Er Si was probably one of the most annoying characters of all time. I rewatched this series at least 5 times, but each time I skipped her scenes. She was whiny, annoying, childish and stupid. The show would have been a lot more enjoyable if the writers would have left her out all together. The same goes for her love interest, CaoGuang.
And it was heart-wrenching, watching how they abused that poor cat.
Overall, one of the best c-dramas I ever watched, definitely recommend it, I will definitely be rewatching it a few hundred times more.

A Drama Ruined By Badly Written & Poorly Casted FL

The story itself is not that special, but the drama tries to portray a healthy relationship. The relationship dynamics between the characters were written well. The music and direction were nice as well. Yang Yang was nice, but the Actress completely spoiled the drama for me. Sorry, but I did not find any chemistry between the ML & FL. Their romantic scenes looked awkward to me. The FL was not written well, and the actress did not act as well on top of it. She was totally stiff and expressionless. Overall, the story fell flat due to the FL for me.

This is a must watch! The story is centered around an online video game where our two leads meet. Of course, like any drama there is always a twist and this drama definitely brings plenty of it. The male character is very much your typical male, strong, assertive, skilled and your female is the same. They both have many common interest and I really liked how the obstacles they had to over come helped them develop their relationships. Of course, since this is a drama there are plenty of antagonist, however what drama wouldn't have some. Their supporting characters bring plenty to the story and help and support both leads. I really recommend you watch this drama; you will love it!

My First Drama Addiction

This was the first C drama I watched and I took my so long to get over "post drama syndrome"

I loved the simplicity of the storyline, it was sweet, uncomplicated and I loved every minute. Before this drama, I thought that every series had some sort of major plot twist with a harsh breakup or difficulties before a happy reunion, but Love O2O broke all those misconceptions.

PROS: no breakup, healthy relationship, sweet supporting characters and friendships, nice gaming/fantasy element, no really "bad" characters as they realized their mistakes and moved on with their lives, love at first sight, YANG YANG (need I say more?)

I will also note that I liked how this drama presented good morals as well. ML fell in love with FL not purely because she was beautiful but for her talent and skills, scheming characters eventually apologized for their mistakes, FL did not hold any grudges towards those that hurt her or were mean to her.

Always highly suggest this drama!

Note: the drama that finally pulled me out of post drama syndrome was My Little Happiness

Most of the ratings are harsh lol. This is one of the most approachable type of C-drama where you don't need to stress yourself out just for entertainment.
This is literally my cup of tea when it comes to watching since my reason watching it in the first place is to de-stress and escape reality.

They said that Yangyang wasn't much here but I think he played the role perfectly. He clearly showed his confidence but not to the point of narcisism. Even Jing Boran wasn't able to portray Xiao Nai's confidence that well. Clear difference is when Boran lost his cool while presenting while Yangyang was calm even after what happened. The best point for me is how he trusted Weiwei (because how can you trust strangers more than your partner).

Zheng Shuang as Weiwei was also the best choice. (Except for the kiss lol how can you not respond to Yangyang). She clearly portayed that girly girl who can be easily misunderstood because of her brain, beauty and sweetness -how much more who would expect her to be a top gamer. In Angelababy's case, she was kinda tomboyish in the movie so you can imagine her being a gamer.

The only thing I was disappointed was how they never let Weiwei have her own time to showcase her smart brain except for multitasking studying, relationships, work and gaming. I would not consider her support to Xiaonai as work tho. She was clearly there because she knew Xiaonai can be cold to others so she took part in being the mom of the group. They could have let her have her own produced game or app or whatever she can do.

The drama can be clichè, cringe and it can also be not your type so don't expect them to do what you have in mind. This is not a slice-of-life genre. Don't need to be realistic.
This is for those who just want to think about nothing and let them enjoy their free time watching. Every character in the drama is too perfect to exist in real life anyways. So happy watching.

First of all, I'm not a fan of online games, yet I totally fell in love with this one.I usually prefer to watch short dramas so I took a long time, debating whether to watch this or not. I'm glad I did.
PLOT:
A light hearted drama, with no major twists or lag. Online gaming plays an important part in the story line and make this more interesting to watch.
CAST;
After watching this I'm now a huge fan of Yang Yang.Even though Zeng Shuang literally doesn't match with her character description, you will surely fall in love with the lead pair.
MUSIC:
The opening song is catchy and loved the OST sung by Yang Yang.
REWATCH:
Definitely .
OVERALL;
Loved it . Made it to my top ten dramas :)

Watched 10 times in a month!

This was the first C-drama I watched and I became obsessed. As a sometimes gamer and retired IT worker, this kept my attention. Casting is great as well as the CGI with the in-game scenes. Yang Yang as Xiao Nai is perfect casting and I liked Zheng Shuang as Weiwei but she seemed to have lost a ton of weight after the first few episodes so her twig legs were a distraction for me (and I'm not usually like that). Loved the side couple of K.O. and Hao Mei! I'm sure I'll be watching this again as I can't get the OST out of my head -- so I had to buy it. :)

Is an outstanding woman just an average man?

I originally skipped this show when I back-wrote all my reviews, because I disliked it so much. But I’m feeling extra petty today, so here goes.

What bothers me most about this show is its casual sexism. It’s not the obvious kind that we can all agree to rage about; it’s a more subversive kind that quietly reinforces implicit biases and sends insidious messages about who is capable of what.

Here is a female lead who’s clearly supposed to be capable and strong. But, it turns out, she’s only capable FOR A GIRL. Whether it’s her technical abilities or skills in the game, she only stands out because of her gender- there are still a bunch of guys who are casually as good as or better than her.

As far as I remember, her technical abilities are limited to fixing a laptop at the beginning (btw I am an electrical engineer and that made me facepalm, like at least hand the girl a multimeter). Later she joins her boyfriend’s startup, but she doesn’t actually do anything real, whereas the rest of the company is full of genius dudes. I think it’s kind of telling that his career and professional successes are so central to the plot, whereas her story arcs mostly deal with love triangles.

As for the game, sure she’s pretty good, but obviously nowhere near the ML. His (male) friends are all pretty decent, yet most of the girls in the game seem to only be there to hit on guys. And what even is this game? At first I was excited at the premise because I’ve played quite a few MMORPGs, but it turns out this game is all about in-game marriages and couples quests. Errm, what? I’ve never played a MMORPG where the gender of the character is even relevant. And, just sayin, most of my guy friends like to play female characters.

Well, one thing the FL DOES stand out for, even above the ML, is... dundundun... her looks. What even is this college-wide beauty contest? Is this a real thing in Chinese universities? Surely I don’t need to go into why this is problematic. And yet they are all sooo into it.

As it turns out, looking pretty is her ticket to respect. It is abundantly clear in this show that women are judged heavily based on looks, the pretty ones get admiration and respect, and the less pretty ones get bullied. ...it's definitely annoying that beauty seems to be what matters most for women in this show. But actually this premise isn’t what bothered me the most, since it’s more a function of the society they’re portraying rather than the reality of the show.

It's just that the reality of the show is also problematic. The FL is good, the ML is better. The ML is amazing at everything and admired by everyone, always in control and always winning. He’s just somebody’s stereotype of a dreamboat guy, and I guess part of that is taking care of and saving the girl.

For the plot itself, I thought the first part of getting the couple together was alright, kind of cute. But then the plot moves on to things like the raging success of his underdog startup, and an endless stream of love triangles. The love triangles are no contest from the beginning, and seem meant instead to just highlight how amazing and desirable the leads are. It’s a whole bunch of whiny men and whiny women with ridiculous love brains.

Even if you don’t have a problem with the gender dynamics of this show, I still think the plot is not very interesting. I was at least mildly entertained at the beginning with all the game drama (my issues with the game nonetheless, I still liked watching a girl impress people), but they stop showing it, and then it’s just a bunch of petty real-life drama with resounding successes from our leads. I think the show relies a lot on you the viewer being proud of how amazing the leads are, and having fun watching them put everyone in their place. Clearly that didn’t work for me.

As for the acting, I was kind of annoyed by the FL’s voice actress making so many breathy little noises. Zheng Shuang is also creepy skinny, like ED (eating disorder)-trigger-level skinny. Yang Yang does an excellent job being too cool for school, as usual. It was probably more about his character, but sometimes I just wanted to smack that confident smirk off his face. Neither of them do that well in the in-game reenactments, which are particularly awkward.

Ok, so what did this show do well?

I like the friendships with the roommates, on both the ML and the FL side. These friendships are all really healthy and supportive, no backstabbing or cattiness or anything. I love how the girls laugh together at the ML's excessively confident courtship style and try to figure out the situation together, like gal pals would. I think anyone who’s lucky enough to have a pack of good friends like that would really appreciate their dynamics. The side stories about the friends are also not bad.

The other thing I really like is the flash of scenes as they approach college graduation. It's so nostalgic, I actually cried. Very on point and reminded me of my own last days of uni.

I saw somebody say, you have to understand that Bei Weiwei was still revolutionary for her time, because she was a strong FL that didn’t need saving. I admit I wasn’t watching Cdramas in 2016 so I don’t know what standards we’re comparing to here. But I almost think a FL who passes off as strong but, it turns out, only stands out because she can do all these things WHILE BEING FEMALE, is actually worse. This only reinforces the idea that the standards are different and we should expect less from our girls.

ENDING – READ AHEAD ONLY IF YOU WANT TO KNOW, CONTAINS SPOILERS

I’m still putting this section in, but I don’t think it’s much of a spoiler to say that everything goes well. The show is way too fluffy for anything else and it's not like anything in between failed. His company is a raging success, she is signed up to work for them after graduation, they get married and buy a condo, etc. Friends do well too.

Guys honestly even after like the hundredths time watching this it’s still amazing definitely a 10/10
Love how the main couple has so much trust in each other like yasss that’s how everyone should be lol they’re goals af even if it’s just a character
They’re both very smart and handle things well, there’s no dumb moments for the main couple
The music wasn’t the best didn’t bring out much emotions imo but it’s still good
There’s really no annoying or crazy character here or a third person/love triangle which is why I love it so so much
Literally there needs to be a season 2 with my yangshuang after their married life as a couple like I need to know if they’re going to have kids n how many things like that since I’m nosy af about my #1 otp
