So I recommend that you watch this movie at least once. I dare say that after watching it once, you will want to watch it again and again. The acting of the actors and actresses is also completely natural and enjoyable to watch. The film carefully portrays traditional Chinese medicine, so I believe that if you watch this movie, it will truly heal both your emotional and physical wounds.

The Best Thing: A Soft, Beautiful Journey of Healing and Serenity

The Best Thing is one of those rare series that seem designed to soothe the soul. From the very first minutes, you are enveloped in a sense of gentleness, kindness, and a kind of quiet serenity that flows through every episode. It is a modern romance that never seeks spectacle; instead, it chooses delicacy, attention to detail, and the emotional power of small gestures, glances, and silences.

The direction, refined and thoughtful, plays a central role in shaping this atmosphere. The framing is meticulous, the lighting soft, the color palette warm without ever feeling artificial. The cinematography is unusually beautiful for a contemporary drama: every scene feels crafted to convey an emotion rather than simply fill space. You can sense a desire to create a visual cocoon, a place where you breathe a little easier.

The soundtrack, discreet yet perfectly chosen, reinforces this ambiance with remarkable precision. The musical themes extend the emotions without ever overwhelming them. It’s an OST that lingers in your mind — not because it is grand or dramatic, but because it is coherent, sensitive, and deeply aligned with the tone of the story.

The two lead actors are one of the series’ greatest strengths. Their natural beauty, never ostentatious, harmonizes perfectly with the softness of the narrative. Their acting, restrained and nuanced, brings unexpected depth to a story that could have felt ordinary in the hands of lesser performers. Their chemistry is subtle, believable, almost soothing. You feel as though you are watching two people truly grow, heal, and open up.

What stands out most is the constant benevolence that permeates the entire drama. No toxicity, no artificial conflicts, no forced melodrama. The Best Thing chooses sincerity, tenderness, and a deliberately gentle pace. It is a series that comforts, that calms, that restores something inside you.

And when the final episode arrives, a soft nostalgia settles in: you simply don’t want it to end.
You want to stay a little longer in this warm universe, with these luminous characters, inside this bubble of calm and beauty.

It's like a warm hug in a picturesque landscape

Loved it! Definitely high rewatch value between periods. This drama feels like a beautiful warm hug, in a picturesque landscape, that makes one feed safe & content. it reinstates belief in the simple, good things in life. Loved the acting of both the mals & female leads. There's happiness & zen here, that leaves me smiling long after the scenes/episodes are over. There were times when I didn't want the drama to end - I delayed watching the end episodes just to live in the warm zone a little longer.

Literally such a light-hearted and comforting drama

This beats wifty (when I fly towards you) and hidden love imo, fight with the wall. Everything in this drama is almost perfect. Shen Xifan had a really bad relationship with Yan Heng, especially since he was always 'busy' and always out of the country, kind of like a long distance relationship but with no effort at all.

I'm also glad that the director didn't speed up their story, especially since it wasn't realistic to be heartbroken for just a few days and find a new partner in the next. I actually got mad when Xifan rejected Suye in ep. 13, but considering she was going to Swiss to study for masters, and the fact that she ALSO got out and deal out of a toxic relationship made it a very exceptional reason as to why she FELT like she had to reject Suye.

Overall, I'm glad He Suye treated her SO much better than Yan Heng, and I'm also glad that Xifan was able to stand up for herself, had her own voice, and most importantly didn't depend on Suye so much like y/n or some shit. A 10/10 for me tbh but ofc I have to be realistic, so a 9.5

Cute Chinese medicine practitioner heals both body and soul

**Top Notes**
A very green flag male lead heals a heartbroken girl. It's slow and simple without too many complications. The biggest barrier between the leads is themselves.

It's your classic mellow, heart-warming drama. The male lead is VERY caring and thoughtful.

**Middle Notes**
Some people might find it slow, but I think it shows how thoughtful he is, always going at her pace and being considerate of her emotional state. The drama didn't emphasize it, but she was going through a tough time and could definitely be scared off if he approached too aggressively.

I personally like the pacing because it felt like 2 individually happy people coming together. Both their lives were centered around family and career until their lives collided and they brought that joy to each other, him a little more than her. No silly misunderstandings and realistic communication; not perfect, but they're communicating.

They kept He Suye's backstory short to keep it simple, and I'm glad they did that. It really highlighted what a great person he is because he had his own trauma and problems, but he never burdened her with them. He's able to handle his own problems and has the capacity to support her as well.

The drama's visual aesthetic was very beautiful, a fusion of traditional Chinese visuals and modern aesthetics. I personally love modernized traditional Chinese styles, so this was a feast for my eyes. It matched the theme perfectly, as this is a modern romance with a backdrop of traditional Chinese medicine and culture.

The last time I watched Xu Ruohan was in Perfect and Casual, and her character there was different from The Best Thing. It was nice seeing her in a more mature role, and she's gotten better at expressing complex emotions.

Zhang Linghe's face card is still lethal. He did well with He Suye and had great chemistry with Xu Ruohan. Their sharper features also look great together.

**Base Notes**
THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THE EX'S PLOT SHORT. This drama is about healing and would have been annoying if the ex kept coming back to traumatize her and cause miscommunication. I like that they stuck to the theme the whole time and just let everyone heal and live quietly.

He Suye is not real. Ima tell you now, men like this don't exist. I have not met a single Chinese medicine practitioner below the age of 40. Men also do not wait months for you to heal from heartbreak before pursuing you cautiously. They also DO get mad when you give mixed signals before rejecting them, just to take it back again.

I will be rewatching this one.

ZHANG LINGHE & XU RUOHAN FOREVERRR

Drama That's Made to Be Loved
This show doesn’t scream at you—it whispers. And that whisper stays with you. The storytelling is minimal but meaningful, with every episode adding emotional depth. The acting feels effortless. He Suye and Shen Xifan have the kind of love story that feels lived-in, not scripted. LingHe and Ruohan clearly trust each other as actors, and that trust shows. They glow together. It’s rare, it’s beautiful, and honestly… it better not be just acting. They are endgame in my heart.

HOPE THEY HAVE ANOTHER PROJECT TOGETHER, XU RUOHAN ZHANG LINGHE FOREVER !!! <33

Love as a Sanctuary: Finding Safety and Stability in 'The Best Thing

The Best Thing (爱你) is a modern romance drama that presents love as a mature, serene, and realistic emotional process. Its plot moves linearly without excessive conflict, allowing interpersonal relationships to develop logically and naturally. The story focuses on internal struggles that mirror the reality of adult life, such as past trauma, fear of commitment, as well as career pressures and social expectations.

The characters are portrayed humanely and consistently with clear emotional arcs, where love does not happen instantly but grows alongside self-awareness, emotional maturity, and the ability to build trust. The drama's main strength lies in the highly natural and captivating chemistry between Zhang Linghe and Xu Ruohan; Zhang Linghe convincingly plays a gentle and gentlemanly Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, while Xu Ruohan successfully brings to life a dynamic career woman who harbors emotional vulnerability, making their interactions feel authentic and touching.

From a psychological perspective, The Best Thing aligns with attachment theory and the concept of emotional maturity, portraying a romantic relationship as a space for emotional healing rather than a source of conflict. This nuance is further reinforced by the subtle presentation of emotions and cinematography that carries a soft and reflective tone. Overall, the drama conveys the message that the best love is not the most dramatic one, but rather one that provides a sense of safety, emotional stability, and mutual growth, making it relevant and meaningful for adult viewers who appreciate realism and emotional depth in romantic stories.

one of the best thing that I've watched this year.
it's unique, interesting, fluttering and alluring. everything just compliment each other perfectly, the acting, the story, the visual, I just couldn't ask more from this drama.
some might think it's just any other romcom since it's started like one, a little bickering and destiny-like first meeting. but it was nothing ordinary once the leads started a loving and healing journey towards each other. and the perfectly portrayed Traditional Chinese Medicine on our male lead's world just makes it even more interesting.
I don't want to write much, you need to see and feel this for yourself. don't hesitate, you're not gonna regret ever watching this drama.

QUITE ENJOYABLE.

The Best Thing was, truly, a masterpiece.

Even though the story, as a story, was not perplexing or quite original - just two people slowly, but steadily, falling in love - it was majestic. First of all, I would like to point out that it was one of the few times I have been totally invested in a c-drama due to the chemistry of the leads. I have noticed that, usually, the main leads are either completely awkward between them in the romantic scenes or just overly ''cute-ish'' for my taste. But these two, OMG, I have fallen in love with them (and they ACTUALLY kissed, not just touching their lips together with wide eyes open, who would have thought?)

Regarding the plot, I liked that they showed how a narcissistic behavior mostly works in a relationship, the break-up and the life after a break-up. It was quite realistic and I liked that it was not just a few minutes clip. When she cried, when she remembered, the effects of a bad relationship in someone's health and the turmoil of emotions when they decide to appear again, even though they do not love them anymore, all made sense.

The male lead was so soft-spoken and gentle, yet, he was straight-forward when needed, protecting the FL when needed, and helped her when she was put in a tough and awkward spot by doing the first move unnoticed. On the other hand, the FL actually chased her dreams even when in a relationship, she was smart, independent and had a health relationship with her parents (something that we rarely see in the c-dramas even though they are fully-grown adults and always made me cringe).

As for the ex, I can't help but say he made a good job acting as a narcissist, arrogant, rich guy that gave stalker-ish vibes when hunting down the FL.

It was truly a good drama.

Best Series for the Start of Spring

At one point in this series, I seriously thought out loud, This should have the word ‘blossom’ in it!—because there were so many flowers everywhere. 😆 From her tulips in the beginning to the small osmanthus flowers that fell onto the bathroom floor as she shook them off, the floral imagery felt like it was just everywhere.

Where I live, we don’t get much of a spring, and if we do, it’s gone in the blink of an eye. So, this drama truly made me feel like spring was here. It was like smelling fresh flowers and enjoying the soft spring rains. It just felt right, filling me with a little tingle of happiness that I couldn’t contain.

Things I Love About This Drama:

🌸 The characters—I just enjoy every one of them. I love their warmth, their radiance, and how natural they felt. It was like watching a sweet love story unfold in everyday life. I also loved how they all got along, always playful with each other. One little detail I found endearing was how the FL calls her parents Mr. Shen and Ms. Liu.

🌸 Scenes from the series. There was one, in particular, that I thought about a lot—the moment they watched the sunrise together. Something about it, the way the morning slowly awakened the world, felt so nostalgic. This series truly gives me that fuzzy, tingling feeling of happiness. Another moment that stood out was when she was suffering from bad cramps, and he used moxibustion to help her. I was tearing alongside with her.

🌸 The screenwriter for Hidden Love also wrote this one! No wonder it carries that same warm, comforting feeling.

🌸 If you’ve read my other reviews, you know Zhang Linghe is one of my top favorite actors. I thoroughly enjoyed his character here— a handsome TCM doctor mending broken hearts? Yes, please, sign me up!

🌸 The side characters! Even though they didn’t have much screen time, I adored the nosy neighbor patrol, always in everyone’s business. I was screaming and laughing when he announced, “Your house is on fire, and Mr. Yan is here to propose marriage!” My favorite sidekick! And let’s not forget the nurses/front desk ladies and the little boy—absolute gems.

🌸 At the beginning of each episode, there’s a small note about an herb, each one tying into the story in a beautiful way. Osmanthus stood out to me the most—it’s a herb I recently came across, and I love its scent.

In short, this series is a refreshing burst of springtime joy that reawakens the senses and warms the heart. Its delicate blend of humor, romance, and vivid imagery makes it the perfect escape from winter’s chill. I’m left with a hopeful reminder that even in the briefest moments, beauty and warmth can bloom—just like the unexpected charm of a spring flower. Enjoy every moment and let this drama inspire you to embrace the season of renewal.

8/10

Started Strong, Ended Slow: A Gorgeous Show with Some Frustrations

The Best Thing had such a strong start! The TCM backdrop was engaging, and I really enjoyed the aesthetic, especially with the flower themes and stunning cinematography. The ML was charismatic, and his acting really stood out, making him the main reason I stuck with the show until the end. The OST was also on point, really adding to the emotional depth of the scenes.

However, the drama lost momentum after Episode 18. The pacing slowed down significantly, with a lot of flashbacks and dragged-out moments that felt unnecessary. The FL, despite going abroad for studies, felt like she didn’t change at all—her emotional struggles and guilt lingered throughout, which made it hard to connect with her. It felt like her character was stuck in a loop, and I was hoping for more growth.

While I enjoyed the show for its first half, the second half was a bit of a letdown. It’s hard to rate it a perfect 10 because the show did start with so much promise but ultimately fell short in the final stretch. Still, the visual appeal and the ML made it worth watching to the end.
