Quiet Powerhouse: The Cultivation Journey That Actually Makes Sense
Fantastic drama from start to finish. The production team clearly knew what they were doing because everything looks clean, sharp and intentional. The world feels lived in, the sets are believable, and the effects are not the usual glitter storm. The arrays, talismans and fight sequences actually feel like part of the story, not decorations thrown on top. The action flows well and the visuals hit the mark without trying too hard. The story is steady and honest. No shortcuts, no sudden golden finger miracles. Han Li works for every inch of progress, which makes the whole journey feel refreshing. If you came looking for romance, keep walking. Whatever tiny spark exists is so subtle you might miss it even if you paused the screen. And honestly, that is part of its charm. It stays true to the cultivation grind rather than forcing heart-eyes to keep viewers entertained.
The acting is solid across the board. Nobody hams it up, nobody overplays the mystic wise master. Everyone delivers their role in a grounded way that suits the tone. Han Li’s actor nails that quiet determination that sneaks up on you.
The ending leaves you wanting more, and maybe that’s why everyone is pacing around waiting for season two. It closes the chapter but doesn’t close the book, and I’m not mad about it. All in all, a well crafted drama that knows exactly what it is and doesn’t pretend otherwise. Refreshing, confident and worth the watch.

Recommend if you're into Cultivation,Immortality, Martial Arts, Adapted From A Novel Epic fantasy
The Immortal Ascension had me hooked from 1st episode. The story world-building,Lin Xu’s character arc 💗⃝🌕all absolutely top-notch. Every fight, betrayal, and breakthrough felt🫠🤌🏻💗 completely exceeded my expectations.
🫧💗✨ From the 1st epi, it pulled me into a stunning world of Ancient sects, Spiritual realms, Betrayals, and Inner Demons * and it never let go couldn't stop myself until 30th epi.
💖🥰💞 * the spiritual techniques, *the forbidden scrolls,* the secret realms, and *that jaw-dropping cliffhanger in the final episode... I still can't get over it.
Just when things were finally aligning BAM — we’re left hanging in the middle :( I physically yelled at my screen😭
💖💗🥰💞The visuals and CGI were surprisingly solid for a series like this And the soundtrack Pure cultivation vibes. Whoever scored the Heaven’s Tribulation scene deserves an award.
But that cliffhanger? Brutal
Honestly, the wait for Season 2 is pure agony 😞Cant wait for Season 2 😔.

just some guy’s cultivation journey yet thoroughly entertaining
this is a story that starts with tropes so recognisable, they are almost as trite as “once upon a time.” our lead, Han Li (played by Yang Yang, who really seems to have found his niche in this character), is introduced as a basic teenager from a family so poor that for him and his friend, joining a cultivation sect means eating actual food every day instead of arguing over flatbreads with siblings.as we initially follow our teenager (for indeed he is no hero, as we learn relatively quickly), his journey begins to diverge from the tried and true cultivation narrative. he certainly has talents but they are not flashy or impressive to others; in fact, they appear invisible to almost everyone except the most crafty of mentors. but Han Li is cool-headed and thoughtful and has mastered, if we are polite about it, conflict avoidance and strategic retreat. if we were less charitable and more into legendary saving-the-world stories, we might be inclined to call him cowardly.
our not-quite-hero does, however, understand how to work both smart and hard, which is quite fortunate because his path is not destined to be an easy one. the focus of the sects on collecting items and on growing their cultivation base with pills and potions is slightly unusual, but this jarringly materialistic subculture holds space for Han Li’s peculiar personality to thrive and gives a sense of this being not just a story but a game.
the pace overall is fairly unrelenting if somewhat uneven. for those of us who have not read the novel on which this is based, which is very long, the information overload and rapid cycling between sects and characters may be a little disorienting and it does feel as if there is insufficient time for character development. Han Li does plenty of gardening and gardening-adjacent chores, which is when you should probably catch your breath, but often these moments arrive too late and you have already processed the previous rapid-fire events. this inconsistency would probably be my only major criticism of the series as a whole.
while there is not really time for explicit comedy, it is still quite humorous at times, which also provides some relief from weeding and fighting demonized creatures. one of the oddest and possibly unintentional sources of humour is the way that almost every character at some time points out how ordinary, plain and unattractive our main character is. meanwhile, Yang Yang’s Han Li gets an obvious glow-up every time he levels up. by two-thirds of the way through, he looks like he has a personal spa in his cave. if they keep on polishing the visuals as his cultivation improves, there will be nothing but blinding light to see for the rest of the story. perhaps the next installment should just be an audio drama.
the CGI has a bit of a late 2000s feel, which sometimes feels slightly anachronistic but does comfortably feed the gamified nature of the series. the fight scenes, however, are impeccably designed and provide a counterpoint to the more mundane aspects of cultivation life.
while large-scale conflict provides the backdrop to the narrative, overall the series still manages to feel low-conflict, in large part because of Han Li’s avoidant personality and distinct lack of interest in interpersonal drama. as an example, when he finds a deceased person, he will inevitably just search them for artifacts then insta-cremate them with very little hassle, whether he killed them himself or they died from non-Han Li-related misadventure. always the pragmatist.
at its core then, The Immortal Ascension is a low-angst series about how people work their way up the cultivation food chain, but it has no pretensions about developing side characters or insisting that you hold feelings for them. the inherent sadness in the narrative is quiet, philosophical and with hidden depth, much like our protagonist himself. Han Li simply has his own path to tread.
though he finds (and by extension, we also find) very few people to care about, there are plenty of people who follow him around, from an entire hopeful harem of women, most of whom he deliberately avoids but still treats with a detached type of respect, to his archenemy, the flamboyant demon lord Wang Chan (Wang Duo with one of his most overtly camp performances), who doesn’t seem to realise that his obsessive relationship with Han Li is unrequited.
the music felt slightly limited in scope but well-deployed. the individual tracks are very strong, particularly Shi Yan’s 蜉蝣志 (Mayfly Will), a raw, rasping emotional journey reminiscent of some of Chen Xueran’s best work. months after finishing The Immortal Ascension, I listen to this OST occasionally and it’s still just as impactful.
all in all, this was an enjoyable and memorable journey, particularly considering the fact that I started this on a whim with zero expectations. the end credits signal a second season and I will definitely be seated!

NOT YOUR TYPICAL WUXIA DRAMA
I have long waited for The Immortal Ascension and this is my review. This is not the typical Wuxia CD where the ML is from a poor background with a unique talent, or from a popular family with exceptional talents. He is a ML from a poor background, with no exceptional talent and a fake spirit root at that! But he is tenacious, given to improment on his cultivation, he is smart, not boastful and prefers to keep a low profile.
As the drama progress, we find out that at every stage of his ascension, he is even more level-headed. Though he had a fake spirit root, he was not blinded by greed or power, he can differentiate right from wrong, and even when he can easily access certain materials to quicken his cultivation, he knows shortcuts will do him no good. He is quick and ready to learn, makes good use of hus surroundings, artifacts, and elixirs.
Also, he is not the type of ML to be entangled in romance, or yearn for his lost love, but he did have a lot of ladies after him.
In all, let's not be stereotypical towards the drama, it's worth a watch. I like the build up, from Episode 6 it becomes sweeter and more interesting. I can boldly say I didn't FWD this drama.
So guys, give it a go.

A long good-bye
Adapted from a very long novel, of which only a small portion is captured here in this drama, The Immortal Ascension follows an ordinary mortal named Han Li on his journey of cultivation. Along the way, he encounters friend, foe and everything in between, as he discovers that seeking immortality and power is not even the half of it.This is a world that builds slowly - perhaps too slow for some - but the climax and finale are thrilling enough to leave an indelible mark with just enough emotional weight and depth to carry the whole drama (or should I say, season). Certain aspects of the story and characters are a bit underdeveloped, but an adequate foundation is laid to build upon characters and themes in subsequent seasons - if only that were an easy task.
Just as Han Li says good-bye many times to several characters - many of them female admirers - we too as the audience must say a long good-bye until hopefully another season or two or three can hopefully be made.

Yang Yang and Fights scenes.....Best things about this drama
I started watching this for Yang Yang and didn't know what to expect never reading the novel or seeing the animated version of it. I also think you need to enjoy Yang Yang's acting to even get through this drama cause it is mainly focused on him and nothing else. Also don't expect romance in this if you are a romance lover. He does have a few girls that he gets entangled with my there really isn't romance between them. For the most part I really enjoyed this drama. I liked watching Han Li's journey with Yang Yang's acting I really think he got to act like a kid for the most part. This drama mainly focused on Han Li's journey and his cultivation to immortality so you would have to be in to that type of drama to get in to this. Even I get lost on some of the cultivation they talked about in this cause they really do go so in depth with it. Also really enjoyed the fight scenes in this another big thing that kept me so invested in the drama. Though I do have to say I was let down my the last two episodes. I just think they were a bit of a let down after everything they were building up to.
I really didn't care for the main girl Nangong Wan, and its mostly just because she felt like she was barely in it at all and the relationship between her and Han Li felt forced that I didn't care if they showed her again. One of the let downs for the last two episodes in this for me cause they did try to throw her back into the mix and I didn't care to even see her at that point. I don't know if they meant it to but I really liked Mo Cai Huan. She was in it more and you could tell in a way Han Li really did care about her. Also felt she had more chemistry with Yang Yang. Also really liked the guys that played Wang Chan and Li Hua Yuan they played their parts really well and I enjoyed watching them while they were on screen.

The adaptation is good . It's far from what i expected.
I read the novel, watched the animation, and am now watching a live action. I can say it's a good live action. There were around 2400 chapters in the novel and 4 seasons of animation, but we got 30 episodes in live action (first 40, then 34, and finally only 30 eps remain). The character development in live action is attractive for all the cast. The combination of some scenes was also better. A few parts were a bit fast and can be difficult to understand (If you didn't read about the technique of fighting), but you still can get it if you focus. The story is not boring. The acting is best served, and the graphics and CGI are also perfect. The speed of VDO seems 1.25 to me, but I like it. I recommend if you like the cultivation drama and not much romance, this one is well fit for you guys. Was this review helpful to you?

After a long time a cultivation drama that matches the novel.
I love how this show kept a consistency among the story and character while all the fighting going on..I loved all the cast and their humorous acting.Hope they make a sequel while holding on to thier consistency on the VFX, story and casting choices...and i would hope they won't change the cast too much. Was this review helpful to you?

Immortal Ascension -Carried by the Male Lead Literally Everyone Else Was Just Luggage
What initially drew me to Immortal Ascension was its captivating beginning and the strong ratings it received. However, the quality noticeably declined after the first five episodes. The inclusion of the female lead felt unnecessary her role was underdeveloped, and despite being introduced as more powerful than most cultivators, her abilities were never meaningfully demonstrated beyond the early episodes. Even the romantic subplot was poorly executed, with only one love scene that lacked context or emotional depth, making it difficult to believe in their supposed relationship. Viewers seeking strong romance elements will likely be disappointed.
As the series progressed, the story became repetitive and drawn out, with scattered pacing that made it increasingly boring. The villains were awkwardly animated in human form, which diminished their impact. Ultimately, the show revolved almost entirely around the male lead, while other characters felt like mere background support.
Overall, while the series started off promising, it failed to deliver on its initial potential and would not be my recommendation for those expecting a balanced, engaging storyline.

And the long journey starts…
Real truth here.I have been following and watching this Donghua for a long while now and there are a lot of those versions… A lot… AND SO MANY EPISODES…
This live action was excellent.
One of Yang Yang’s many best.
The rating should be higher than 8.4
The rating is doing it any justice.
It should be 8.8 or higher.
Please next part, please.
Meanwhile, I am back on the Donghua.
