Fluffy
I really loved the progression of their relationship it felt very realistic!! Seeing Zhang Lurang slowly open up and show more emotions over time was really endearing. 10/10 Because I love how they showed their life after highschool as well and didn't just leave the rest of the story up to the viewers interpretation. Was this review helpful to you?

So Sweet, Yet I Wanted More
"When I Fly Towards You" is a very warm and comforting coming-of-age drama that truly shines during its school arc. The development of the characters in their teenage years feels natural, emotional, and meaningful. Watching them grow, especially seeing how the female lead supports the male lead in overcoming his insecurities and psychological barriers, is the strongest part of the story. The male lead is written as an introverted and emotionally reserved person, which makes sense for his background and personality.
During the school phase, this works very well because every small step he takes feels like real progress. His growth, both academically and emotionally, feels genuine and satisfying, and the relationship develops through small, quiet moments rather than dramatic scenes, which makes it feel realistic and sincere.
However, once the story moves into their adult lives, the emotional progression slows down significantly. While their relationship remains sweet and stable, it also feels somewhat stagnant. The male lead stays emotionally in the same place, and although that fits his personality, it creates the feeling that his internal journey is never fully explored or resolved on screen. The romance becomes more about comfort and companionship, but less about emotional depth and transformation.
The ending, including the pregnancy announcement, is symbolically beautiful and shows that their love continues into a new stage of life. Still, it feels more like a life milestone than an emotional climax. It confirms that they stay together, but it doesn’t quite deliver a strong emotional resolution to their personal growth, especially for the male lead.
Overall, this drama is perfect for viewers who enjoy calm, healthy, and gentle romances with strong school development and a comforting atmosphere. It may not be emotionally intense in the final episodes, but it remains a sweet and heartwarming story about growing up and growing together.
Rating: 8/10

It's juts like a typical High School Chinese Drama
I knew this drama through TikTok, and just watch a glimpse of some episodes and I'd say, I really did expect something different or new with this but yeah, as I get through this series I just realize it's just like the typical High School Chinese Drama. The girl will fall in love with the quiet, popular, and smart guy and it's just the typical plot of high school Chinese drama where the girl would do everything to get notice by the guy, and that's it, it's just has kind of different ambiance or place and different actor, I don't find anything special at all but yeah at least the girl in this story is not that dumb to not listen to his boyfriend to avoid misunderstanding and I like the part that she really has the confident that the guy really love him and they really did the connection. I also like the acting, well there's no dead air as expected of Chinese actors and I love to see some new faces. Was this review helpful to you?

Not at 10/10 but I cried!!
YES it’s very very sweet, light hearted and warm to watch this drama. Any love rivals, issues were all resolved within one episode lol. The lead couple had such perfect understanding and communication, and supported each other all the way!So that’s the problem- it’s too perfect, and thus made this drama quite unrealistic. Haha.. not that I’m looking for break ups and miscommunication, but this was just too good to be true. One reviewer said their hairstyles didn’t change in what… 8 years?? Hahaha… so yeah- the producers should have been more alert on these sort of details.
Episodes 1-19 were mostly on their high school years, ages 16 -19. The main leads get together in episode 19 (if I remember correctly) and the last few episodes were in university, working life, and the final episode on their wedding and getting pregnant! It would have been nice to see a bit more on their uni days. I didn’t expect much on their work or married life as the actors are still quite young.
I especially loved the character development of the ML. From having very low self esteem and constantly being compared to his younger ‘smarter’ brother, he was very introverted, quiet, shy and just kept mostly to himself. But after knowing the FL, he opened up, started to smile more and was able to become a more wholesome adult.
The FL herself is a very very special character. She’s the opposite of him- chatty, assertive, confident and was taking the lead in most parts of their friendship and relationship. I loved the way she called him Rang Rang ;);)
2nd couple and secondary storylines were not too bad. Although again I find it hard to belief that the 2nd couple waited 5 years before acknowledging their feelings for one another and getting together. No relationships in between?
Anyhow, in the final episode there was the proposal scene, and it was SO TOUCHING!! I cried and cried!! No fancy dinners or flowers, but a very meaningful video montage. That’s how the ML is: not rich not flashy, but focused and certain all the way!!
Enjoy this one :) :)

wholesome and pure the whole way thru q(≧▽≦q)
What I liked:- For the 1st 3 eps the main couple's relationship seemed a lil unbalanced like their interactions seemed slightly one-sided (bc he barely talked lol hes a quiet boi uvu), but 4th ep onwards after we got to see a bit more of the main lead's perspective and home life i started to fall in love with them as a duo, hes so starved of positive interactions at home and shes so kind and supportive and wholesome towards him, i was like I SEE THE VISION hahaha 🥰🥰🥰
- The main friend group dynamics are amazing, wholesome and cute and funny af
- 2nd couple dynamics were super cute, bickering tease-ey friends to sloooowly something more😊
- Both of the main leads are equally down bad for each other, obv from the female lead's side bc she's so blatant about her simping hahah but as the show goes on we get more and more evidence he cares just as much it's rly cute. also they go on soooo many unofficial dates before theyve even gotten together it's fabulous haha
- 3rd male lead is a delight, v dorky v outgoing v good boi, he doesnt get a full time romantic partner (which the show pokes fun at in the final ep when his 2 pairs of friends are handholding on either side of him and hes like tf have i gotten myself into hahaha) but we do get a v touching backstory with him and his grandma which was so insanely wholesome man 😭😭😭everytime they wre on screen tgt i was just🥺🥺
- The show sidestepped a lot of annoying cliches which I wanna give it credit for - e.g., zero love triangles!!! one ep introduced a female primary school friend but she turned out to be super sweet and supportive of the main couple it was so cute lol. Overall, after getting together officially, both leads so quickly and efficiently shut down any potential suitors it's awesome and kinda hilarious in a meta way lol i love them sm (theyre just like miss me with that miscommunication angst😤😤). Mind you there was a short stretch in eps 15-16 where they werent talking to each for dumb reasons but it was the only time it happened and they are still obv high schoolers so i forgave em HAHA
- OST is insanely good. v chill, v poppy, fit the scenes so well. there were also some familiar soundbites from weightlifting fairy kim bok joo too hahaha which i adored (including the iconic "WHAT" lmaoo)
Nitpicks:
- Male lead's acting was a bit TOO reserved occasionally, obv it's his personality but yea could've used a few more words outta him at times lol, it's why i LOVED the final ep so much, showing him vlogging and sharing his thoughts it was so frickin wholesmoe i died😭😭 mind you as the show goes on esp as an adult he gets more spontaneous and open with his feelings which is perfectly believable so again it's just a minor nitpick
- 2nd couple could've used more screentime development together bc they were sooooooo cute tgt (esp showing the audience how her feelings towards him slowly changed like the show implied it mainly but just a few more lines of her thoughts would've done wonders imo - they did a great job on his end!)
- My girl gotta use her hands more when smooching 🤣
What I didn't like:
- Male lead's mom, legit wanted to slap her every time she came on screen 😭😭😭 EASILY the worst thing about the show. thankfully maybe the showrunners guessed how much the audience was gonna dislike her character as she straight up disappeared from the show after episode 15 LMAO good riddance 🥰🥰
- That's it honestly XD
Overall:
Super likeable show. Sweet af. Diabetes. Eps 19-20 and 23-24 were my favourites😊 8.5/10 for me. Def rewatching some eps when i need a pick-me-up and hunting down the OST on spotify☆*: .。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆

overall very good but deducting 1 star for Su zaizai's clingy behaviour even in adulthood
When I Fly Towards You is a charming, youthful romance. The leads share a heartwarming, gentle chemistry. The supporting cast, including the friend group, adds richness to the story. The drama has a certain nostalgic charm. While the drama’s slow pace allows for character development, it can feel overly drawn out at times. Some scenes linger a bit too long, making certain episodes feel sluggish, especially for viewers who prefer a faster progression. The storyline follows familiar tropes of high school romance. While the supporting characters add warmth to the series, they don’t experience much growth. Their storylines often take a backseat to the main couple, and they are used more for comic relief rather than being given deeper arcs. I wanted more of Gu Ran and Jiang Jia!!!

Heartwarming love story
Each episode is only 30-40 minutes which is not much compared to most dramas. This show is very wholesome and cutesy. Main best thing is the cast group of 5 friends, the side characters did really well in making the drama lively. It's easy to follow not much stressing on complex stories and characters. Music is good I keep remembering blue by yung kai everytime that part comes up, I always know things are about to go down. Perfect depiction of love at first sight. Su Zai Zai kept sticking with Zhang Lurang, never giving up her crush any time. It's satisfying to see two opposites cold and warm boy and girl becoming attracted. The other couple in the friend group Jiang ja and gu ran was what kept the show amazing too. Without them it felt kind of empty. Was this review helpful to you?

i'm not crying,, you are....
TLDR; A similar one I would recommend would be Meeting You, which is also a coming-of-age story. I feel like this one is more relatable, though, but still worth a watch! This show gives me nostalgia in a bittersweet way, and lowkey, this genre is my guilty pleasure. It helps me detract from being an adult with adult responsibilities for a while and just enjoy a wholesome show. There are a lot of eps where I'll just tear up a lil for something so simple, but ig it's just the nostalgia hitting and mayhaps I relate a little too much. Both first and second couples have amazing chemistry. For the most part acting was pretty good. Some of the acting, esp with fl seemed a little too animated imo, but I do understand that they basically start as teens. But she still retained that even as an adult, which idk maybe that's just her personality? Regardless, minor detail. Music lyrics are nice, and some of the songs are catchy. Rewatch value is pretty high since it's short and it's a coming-of-age story, so plenty of character development.Story: I didn't think it was possible to be happy and sad in the same episode, but here we are. I cried a lot ngl.. There is a small misunderstanding, which made me feel bad for the characters involved (I teared up a lil), but somehow, it didn't feel annoying to watch. The excursions w/o parental supervision would not fly in America. Why are there so many lol. I feel like half of the show was the actors having fun (amusement park, beach, music festival, camping, karaoke, etc.) I'm lowkey living vicariously thru them bc I never really got to experience the full high school experience bc of covid.. It's so amazing to have a friend group that supports you and ppl who care for you unconditionally.. These kids are surprisingly mature for their age. They're so supportive of each other, esp towards their love interests. The confessions are so sweet ughh. The second couple is also really adorable. Also, the video log is so adorable and a nice addition that helps with the narrative. I love it when they do full circle moments, and this show is full of them.
Acting/Cast: It's a young adult drama, so of course there's going to be awkward/puppy love moments, but they don't feel cringy. If I had a nickel for every time someone cleared their throat, I'd be rich. It's kinda crazy how many times it happens lol. I think it's funny/adorable though. All the main characters kinda look their age, which is nice (aside from the height lol). The second ml is so sweet, like he doesn't interfere but instead helps, even though it's one-sided. I found it kinda strange that fl's voice remained the same, even as a college graduate, and the whole group didn't really change their hairstyles, but that's just me being nitpicky haha
Music: I think the intro and outro songs are supposed to complement each other, which is really cute.
Rewatch value: tbh I've been watching shows that are 30-40 eps long, so a short one is nice once and a while. Also, it's much easier to binge lol. Def worth a rewatch.

My rating of this drama
For this particular drama, my rating doesn't fully reflect my great enjoyment. From the first to the last episode, this drama was adorable. Not silly sweet but refreshingly sweet. No wonder it rushed to the top on the first day of its launch and into the top ten in real-time. Moreover, despite being so young, the main and secondary couples gave such amazing acting performances that I'll follow up their future projects. It was a beautiful love story, and very well directed (with only minor editing flaws). But it is a simple plot, not intricate or complex twists. Although it had some drama that contributed to the male lead character development, most scenes and dialogues were very simple as expected in a high school setting, and some were shallow (the few cliches included in the plot). So although the love story is a 10/10, the overall drama's simple (but sweet) plot is why I gave it 8.5 (dramas that I think were very good and a rewatch in the future).
