One of Best Youth High-School Chinese Dramas to Watch

I REALLY LOVE THIS SHOW!

At first, I did not expect this drama would be my interest because I felt like the plot was the same with all aired dramas in the past. But I was wrong! The story is interesting enough to keep going to next episode. The characters of FL and ML, even the friendship are also really great. The FL is a smart, cheerful, thoughtful person who I love the most, not the clingy, dumb, childish (thanks to the writer for a more mature FL character).

Beside their friendship, what I love the most is also the communication between our main couple. Since they are in high school, they have good understanding for each other so in their adult phase, they are compatible enough even though they are busy with their college and work.

Thanks for a healthy show, with healthy relationships that resulted in beautiful growth for each of them. Rewatching this later is definitely on the agenda! :)

PS: Based on this show, is it true that men and women can never be friends? Since there are two couple formed in this show HAHAHA XD

Remind me so much of another drama.

When does it get better? Don’t get me wrong, it’s cute but I’m on episode 6 and I think I’m going to give it another episode before I drop it. This show reminds me so much of A Love So Beautiful (which I didn’t like) with a perky, obsessed FL and a stoic ML. I know he has a reason for being that way but all ML have reasons.

Seriously though why do they make these high school girls so forward when they like a guy? They are out there following them around even when the guys doesn’t show interest (as audiences we see the tiny smiles but the FL doesn’t!). I’m trying to remember if I’ve ever encountered any girls like that in school but came up with nothing.

The cast is fine but the FL remind me so much of a younger Esther Yu. I am already not the biggest fan of EY so it’s been taxing.

Worth watching only without expectations

I was so excited and had high expectations before watching this drama as people around me were praising it so much but after started watching it, i saw that i had it all wrong.

The story line wasn’t so bad, I would say the storyline was good but this drama would have been far better if the acting of the casts were better, the female lead of this drama, her acting didn’t feel like real to me, I think its because i had so many expectations from it.

I couldn’t finish the whole drama cause it felt like a time waste totally, still i tried so hard to finish it and watched till 16episodes but it bored me. Some scenes were good, i have to agree, like the scenes from the beach and the scenes from aquarium, I liked those scenes. aside these it was pretty boring.

I think this drama would be good to you if you watch it without any expectations, don't watch it if you have too much expectations, then you will feel boring like me. This is a high school drama so it would be good to you if you are in school, maybe its worth one time watching. I don't know if I can but still I will try watching the rest episodes and see if it gets better after 16 episodes.

Second lead couple deserves their own drama

The drama itself is fine, no toxicity, not a lot of plot, mostly just something to watch to pass time. However, after watching until the middle of the drama I realized I was only watching the next episode, hoping to see the second lead couple. Not that there's anything wrong with Zhang Lurang and Su Zaizai, just I find their story to be a bit boring. They were sometimes cute ig but their trope was not something for me, the she falls in love first sight and he slowly falls in love too, their scenes together did not spark anything within me.

Honestly I much prefer the second lead couple, for me, their trope and story are much better. Gu Ran and Jiang Jia enemies to frenemies to lovers was giving everything I needed, I was fr giggling and kicking my feet at every little screen time they had. The reason why I dropped this drama is because I didn't want to waste time watching a drama where I have no interest in the main couple and the only couple I am watching for is done no justice .

I really wish that the second lead couple had more screen time, but they barely had any to development their relationship. I swear I need a season 2 with them as the main or maybe another drama with their actors cause they have SM potential as a couple.

Dropped: A Nostalgic High School Watch

This is a drop review—commentary on the first half of the season.

I’m halfway through and have decided to stop here. I was really curious going in, especially after seeing how often this drama gets shared. Alongside Hidden Love, it seems to be one of the modern dramas people connect with most. After being impressed with Zhou Yiran in Generation to Generation and enjoying him in Twelve Letters, I’ve been going back to some of his earlier work—I also recently finished him in Reborn.

Main thoughts: I appreciated the nostalgic tone and was immediately pulled into its high school setting—the light, social atmosphere and familiar rhythms of student life. However, the central storyline focuses too heavily on the main relationship, which ultimately doesn’t land for me. That said, the supporting cast is a highlight. I love the community of friends, and the second leads. The school-life elements are genuinely enjoyable: watching them grow through ordinary, everyday moments in a suburban town evokes a sense of familiarity and longing for the past.

However, the core romantic dynamic just isn’t for me and it takes up too much screen time. It may resonate more with viewers who enjoy soft and innocent relationships. Still, I’m glad I gave it a chance.

If you want to feel happy, watch this show

Truly the best romance comedy drama I've ever watched, apart from 2 episodes in the middle, every episode left me feeling so happy, it was such a pleasure to watch this show.
Half the time I was squealing with delight at the characters attempts to show interest in eachother, so much fun!
I loved both the 2nd leads, their ability to be so obtuse yet so funny leads to such a great payoff in the end.
The concept of recording your youth and using that in later scenes to display affection for one another is so heartwarming, it made me tear up many times.
If I can have a love so pure, I'd die a happy person.

You don't need conflicts to have a wonderful story. Sometimes we just need peace in love.

If you are someone who loves to watch dramas without complicated plots and issues. You should give this a try. It's fun, cute, mature and healthy show that would make you reflect about why we complicate life. The drama is light, but it touches issues about insecurities, understanding, communication and security.

This drama gave me the kind of peace I hope for in a relationship, be it romance or friendship. Two people giving the kind of support and understanding that is rarely seen today and friends that would be with you without doubt. The story is simple, yet it will you such warmth you never thought you needed. The most important thing is that it teaches you that distance and differences should never be a source of conflict to break a good relationship. It might require trust, effort and maturity but growing in different surrounding doesn't mean that you are growing apart.

I really love how brave the main lead in expressing their thoughts and feelings.

Cutest Couple Ever!

Omg okay- I've watched this drama right when it came out, which was the summer of 2023, June, I think. I'm making a review now because I've recently just made an account on mydramalist, and the first drama I thought to write a review on was this drama! :)

I remember watching this drama alongside Hidden Love, but I honestly would go straight to wifty when a new ep came out. And that is all because simply this was ONE of Chinese drama of 2023 from me. Everything about this drama is good. The friendship, the romance, the emotional depth, the character growth, and the beautiful cinematography all come together to create a compelling and heartwarming story that resonates long within you. I can't say enough about this drama, it's just so beautiful. Like the way all the characters just understand each other, and all rely on each other. Ahh I love them truly. There was no love triangle, which for me If I see a love triangle in a drama it's an immediate off putting, like I just can't stand it. Our female lead falls for our male lead at first sight, and she doesn't deny it or try to think otherwise, which I honestly don't like when they drag the "liking" part of the characters, but this drama doesn't at all. Except maybe for the second couple, but there love story is so cute and I understand why they kind of it drag it, but it was in a good way trust me:) On the other hand our Male lead is a bit on the shy side at first, but omg the way the directors put it in the little details that he liked her too from the beginning is so adorable. Same for our second couple, there literally the cutest, and omgg I feel bad for our Guran (the boy with the grandma), he has no love interest, but I would've loved it if he did have one, but ahh he just adds to the comedic part of the drama and it's so healing. This drama all just comes together to be the best drama for me. The OST is beautiful as well, I listen to it all the time and omg I just get scenes replaying in my head.

Refreshing and a easy watch

I watched this a year ago and realized I didn't write a review so I'm doing it now.

I usually love school drama's but WIFTY was on a WHOLE different level (and yes I know that its a coming of age story), I really loved every single character, they each had their own personalities and not just a copy of each other like how I see in a lot of school drama's. I was really worried about how long this would be since its 24 episodes and trust me I wish the episodes were 2hrs, YES ITS THAT GOOD!! I usually wouldn't rewatch shows but WIFTY is an exception. The only thing that I didn't really like is that Guran & JiangJia took SOOOOOO LONG to get together but honestly it was so worth it and I will always love them so much. (THEY NEED THEIR OWN SERIES!!!)

I really loved everything about this so if you're reading this not knowing if you should watch it or not, YOU SHOULD! The 9.0 is not an exaggeration it is THAT GOOD.

She’s a bubbly, upbeat, and positive girl; friendly & always smiling. She stands up for herself, never letting anyone look down on or abuse her. She’s confident, but not conceited; strong, but not arrogant. And her admiration for & support of the ML completely change his life.💗

He’s seen as cold & aloof due to his focus on his studies, but he’s actually very kind to those he allows to get close. He has very low self esteem because of being constantly compared to his genius younger brother & always coming up short in his parents’ eyes. But he opens up to his new friends & begins to laugh & enjoy life with them by his side. And the way he gravitates towards, falls for, & protects the FL is so swoon worthy. 🫠

This is one of my favorite youth dramas! I absolutely love it. It felt like I was just hearing stories from close friends, the cast’s chemistry was that natural. I love everything about it. The bromance, the sismance, & the core 5’s bond. The lack of love rival drama (the Leads were so good at not allowing any of that to fester!) That all the adults were NICE (except ML’s parents) - so rare! The love of the Leads & the ways they always protected each other & their relationship (ML’s remark regarding the college wannabe-rival girl’s photos of him = chef’s kiss!! ) They’re all very mature, loyal, & good.

Do yourself a favor & watch this sweet drama if you haven’t yet!

I am floored by how much I ended up loving this. I do not normally watch many Chinese dramas and I felt a little bit bored at the beginning. Once the main friend group was formed and the characters started feeling more developed, I was hooked. WIFTY is an amazing coming of age drama. The entire friend group is so well-written and each character is endearing and relatable in their own way. They really all felt like friends.

Lurang and Zai zai are one of the best drama couples. Their relationship is so healthy and the transition from friends to something more felt very natural. There was so little drama around this couple; they communicated, trusted, and loved each other in a way that felt so beautiful and rare to see. The actors did such a great job with their characters. They expressed their affection and emotions very differently but it was clear that they both felt just as strongly about each other. Zai zai was Lurang’s sunshine and he was her safe place. I actually cried at how beautiful and pure some of their conversations were.

The second lead couple was very different but still fantastic. Gu ran and Jiang Jia start off really disliking each other, become best friends, and eventually acknowledge their feelings for each other. The chemistry between the two actors was great and they had a lot of very funny scenes together. This couple should’ve had more screentime together.

WIFTY is a perfect comfort show. There is not a lot of major plot points or drama, it just focuses on the characters and their relationships with each other. While there are some sadder themes explored, primarily Lurang’s backstory, this is mostly just a feel good show that warms your heart.
