Heartwarming love story
Each episode is only 30-40 minutes which is not much compared to most dramas. This show is very wholesome and cutesy. Main best thing is the cast group of 5 friends, the side characters did really well in making the drama lively. It's easy to follow not much stressing on complex stories and characters. Music is good I keep remembering blue by yung kai everytime that part comes up, I always know things are about to go down. Perfect depiction of love at first sight. Su Zai Zai kept sticking with Zhang Lurang, never giving up her crush any time. It's satisfying to see two opposites cold and warm boy and girl becoming attracted. The other couple in the friend group Jiang ja and gu ran was what kept the show amazing too. Without them it felt kind of empty. Was this review helpful to you?

Youth, my love
August 11, 2023When I Fly Towards You has hit all the spots in my heart. The way it has green flag male lead and female lead. That is just amazing in itself and this is a youth drama that we are talking about.
First and foremost, the development of our leads love story is just majestic in the way it was written. It was like slow and steady, but not too slow or too fast. The little glimpse that they take on each other is just so cute. And did I mention how green flag both our leads are?!!! LIKE WHERE DO THESE EXIST? CAUSE CLEARLY NOT IN FKING AREA.
I am so happy to be able to watch this drama because it gives me the feels. The way our leads have such a healthy communication with each other. The way they treat each other with respect and love. No stupid misunderstanding troupe. Everything is solved whenever a misunderstanding is about to develop. No stupid and unnecessary break up. Like whoa, Chinese dramas did so well this time of the year.
Hidden Love, Exclusive Fairytale, and When I Fly Towards You, these are the holy trinity of the Chinese Youth Dramas of this year!

i'm not crying,, you are....
TLDR; A similar one I would recommend would be Meeting You, which is also a coming-of-age story. I feel like this one is more relatable, though, but still worth a watch! This show gives me nostalgia in a bittersweet way, and lowkey, this genre is my guilty pleasure. It helps me detract from being an adult with adult responsibilities for a while and just enjoy a wholesome show. There are a lot of eps where I'll just tear up a lil for something so simple, but ig it's just the nostalgia hitting and mayhaps I relate a little too much. Both first and second couples have amazing chemistry. For the most part acting was pretty good. Some of the acting, esp with fl seemed a little too animated imo, but I do understand that they basically start as teens. But she still retained that even as an adult, which idk maybe that's just her personality? Regardless, minor detail. Music lyrics are nice, and some of the songs are catchy. Rewatch value is pretty high since it's short and it's a coming-of-age story, so plenty of character development.Story: I didn't think it was possible to be happy and sad in the same episode, but here we are. I cried a lot ngl.. There is a small misunderstanding, which made me feel bad for the characters involved (I teared up a lil), but somehow, it didn't feel annoying to watch. The excursions w/o parental supervision would not fly in America. Why are there so many lol. I feel like half of the show was the actors having fun (amusement park, beach, music festival, camping, karaoke, etc.) I'm lowkey living vicariously thru them bc I never really got to experience the full high school experience bc of covid.. It's so amazing to have a friend group that supports you and ppl who care for you unconditionally.. These kids are surprisingly mature for their age. They're so supportive of each other, esp towards their love interests. The confessions are so sweet ughh. The second couple is also really adorable. Also, the video log is so adorable and a nice addition that helps with the narrative. I love it when they do full circle moments, and this show is full of them.
Acting/Cast: It's a young adult drama, so of course there's going to be awkward/puppy love moments, but they don't feel cringy. If I had a nickel for every time someone cleared their throat, I'd be rich. It's kinda crazy how many times it happens lol. I think it's funny/adorable though. All the main characters kinda look their age, which is nice (aside from the height lol). The second ml is so sweet, like he doesn't interfere but instead helps, even though it's one-sided. I found it kinda strange that fl's voice remained the same, even as a college graduate, and the whole group didn't really change their hairstyles, but that's just me being nitpicky haha
Music: I think the intro and outro songs are supposed to complement each other, which is really cute.
Rewatch value: tbh I've been watching shows that are 30-40 eps long, so a short one is nice once and a while. Also, it's much easier to binge lol. Def worth a rewatch.

My rating of this drama
For this particular drama, my rating doesn't fully reflect my great enjoyment. From the first to the last episode, this drama was adorable. Not silly sweet but refreshingly sweet. No wonder it rushed to the top on the first day of its launch and into the top ten in real-time. Moreover, despite being so young, the main and secondary couples gave such amazing acting performances that I'll follow up their future projects. It was a beautiful love story, and very well directed (with only minor editing flaws). But it is a simple plot, not intricate or complex twists. Although it had some drama that contributed to the male lead character development, most scenes and dialogues were very simple as expected in a high school setting, and some were shallow (the few cliches included in the plot). So although the love story is a 10/10, the overall drama's simple (but sweet) plot is why I gave it 8.5 (dramas that I think were very good and a rewatch in the future).

Must watch for teens - Positive Influence
This show is very cute & clichéd. There are no bad guys. It's an ideal world they lived in with lots of wholesome moments, details & full of life youthful high school days. There are aspirations, admirations & endearingly sweet dreams that brings a bunch of school fellows best friends for life.I love how it sheds light on the importance of having positive influence around in your teens and how life changing happiness can be for humans. Nothings permanent but efforts can make life & this world better for people we love & cherish.
V clean & inspirational story. Teens should watch it.

When I Fly Towards You: A Peaceful Ride Through Love and Youth
After a long time, I picked up a Cdrama, and wow—it turned out to be such a feel-good watch. This drama doesn’t take you on a rollercoaster of emotions; instead, it stays consistently positive and calm, almost like a mellow slice-of-life story. The pace is steady and comforting, which made it really relaxing to follow. The second lead couple honestly felt more lively and refreshing compared to the main leads. I even found myself wondering if school love and relationships could ever be this easy in real life. It wasn’t completely cringey, nor was it deeply mesmerizing, but it carried a simple warmth that kept me smiling with its heartwarming moments.
What’s unique is how the story takes the main couple from their 9th grade days all the way to adulthood—even pregnancy—yet somehow, they still felt like kids till the very end 😅. Personally, I was deeply rooting for the second couple, and I wish they’d gotten more screen time after officially becoming a pair.
If you’re looking for something steady, light, heartwarming, and peaceful, this drama is a perfect pick to just sit back and relax with. 🌸

Cute unproblematic youth drama, but had the potential to be better
I had relatively high expectations for this drama partly because I’ve heard the story is written by the same author as Hidden Love, and also because a lot of people who enjoyed Hidden Loved kept recommending WIFTY. Similar to Hidden Love, there were very little misunderstandings and no conflicts that were dragged on for too long. It did feel a bit slow sometimes as a result, but I liked the characters enough to stay engaged for the most part. There were no 3rd act break-ups, and no toxic relationships, just pure fluff. The last few episodes were my favorite because I felt like things were finally happening, but I wish the vibe had been the same throughout the entire drama. While I still enjoyed watching for the most part, I feel there wasn’t really enough going on with the characters or the story for it to stand out to me. I liked seeing Zhang Lurang reconnect with his brother, and I also liked watching the backstory of Guan Fang and his grandma. However, I felt like the FML’s could’ve been given more depth or at least more scenes of them dealing with their own struggles too. The only time ZaiZai actually struggled was towards the end when she was being harassed by a guy at work. Maybe I’m just being nitpicky but I feel like it could’ve been handled a bit better. Another issue I had was the portrayal of the 2nd FML’s feelings towards the ML. I loved them as a couple, but I found it a little difficult to believe she actually started having feelings towards the ML until the very end. I think the last few episodes were the most interesting for me, yet at the same time it felt rushed and I feel like we were robbed of more scenes of both couples.
Going into this I was expecting more of a coming-of-age story but I feel like I just got a fluffy slice of life friendship that dragged for half the time I was watching. It was good, but just a little overrated. Nonetheless, I don’t regret watching it and I can definitely understand why many people enjoy it.

Youth Drama at its finest !!
Usually I take MDL ratings with a pinch of salt but this is one of the rare times where the rating actually reflects the quality of the series..in fact I would say this rating is less for how good this drama is...no angst, no unnecessary conflicts..pure love and friendship as it should be..the FL was so charismatic that you couldn't help but fall in love with her..the ML was d definition of boyfriend material...loved d secondary couple and thought they were really amazing which is quite rare for me..overall a beautiful, lively, heartwarming drama that will make you smile and cry happy tears throughout !! bravo !! 10/10 without any reservations!! also special mention to d cinematography !!Was this review helpful to you?

A very sweet story between an introverted guy and cheerful girl: not revolutionary but heartfelt !
I truly enjoyed this very healing drama about the blossoming romance of Zhang Lu Rang and Su Zai Zai who met in high school. There were a lot of sincerity in the love and friendship displayed on screen and I really appreciated following the journey of the main couple (as well as their friends). The latest arc of the drama was not my favorite, it was good for rounding up the story but I'm not sure why it grabbed less my attention. The acting was satisfying. The female lead (played by Zhang Miao Yi) was such a cutie and bubbly girl that you immediately understood why the male lead (played by Zhou Yi Ran) was drawn to her. Zhou Yi Ran's character was such a green flag, he had a lot of kind attention for the heroine that really gave me butterflies in the stomach. He is really charming with his dimples and I'm looking forward to see him in other shows.
The production value was pretty nice. I loved the fact that the heroine was filming the hero and doing her own commentary on her life. It was such a nice and realistic touch which came into play several times in an interesting way. The soundtrack was good, nothing really outstanding but fitting the romantic and healing vibe of the series.
I would recommend this to people looking for a really beautiful high school romance and featuring wholesome friendships. The last arc was a bit less exciting to me but concluded properly the story. If you are looking for a romance without angst, full of green flags and little butterflies inducing moments, this is a really good drama for you !

Light Romantic Relationship Drama
This is an adaptation of an early Zhu Yi novel. It's a delightful show, well acted. But really over all the plot narrative is simplistic and there's insufficient character development over all. Hidden Love and First Frost show more depth and growth. This is only a critique. This show is enjoyable and worth watching. And it is worth watching particularly if you are a fan of the other adaptions of Zhu Yi's work. Was this review helpful to you?

I almost dropped it
I almost dropped it, I was persistent and kept watching because I was curious as to why it had a very high rating. The vibe was nice, but it was not until they dropped the GR and JJ thing, that I was willing to keep watching. They were probably the ones that held the drama until the last 4-5 episodes.
Before that, there was no story, no plot, not real progress, just a bunch of random things happening in high school to a group of friends that was formed just because, and a cute girl wanting to be friends with a boy that didn't want anything to do with anyone.
Not early, just by the time GR realized his feelings towards JJ, they first showed the conflict every character was facing, and I could care more about the characters. Wish it could've been earlier in the series.
I guess viewers liked the vibes and the friendship. And I also liked that, but I think it could have been better plotted. It was not until they faced hardships together, that I believed their friendship was real.
Also, I hated how ZZ grew apart from her best friend because she liked RR.
As to GR and JJ, I liked them a lot!! I was so excited when their romantic story started, but sadly, it didn't live up to the expectations, the characters were not shown in most of the last episodes, so no progress, and then they rushed it in the last episode. If they wanted to give them screen time, they should have done something that was worth with it.
As to RR and ZZ, they were very cute, but I only enjoyed their romantic story in the last 4-5 episodes or so, they didn't have any progress during the whole series practically. I loved their couple phase, and how RR treats her (apart from the fact he is so handsome) they were a very cute couple. I liked that they grew up together. But during the school phase, it was literally watching an annoying girl insisting on building a friendship with a guy she found cute, and I didn't even know in the first episodes if RR was annoyed by her or not.
I also didn't like that ZZ didn't have any flaws or personal conflicts, almost everyone had. Which made the series more enjoyable and makes the audience empathize and care for the characters. Almost all of them found themselves, learnt things, but ZZ (I'm talking about her bc she's the protagonist) didn't go through any struggles, personal conflict, more than expecting RR wouldn't ask her to not talk to her any more.
I liked the vibes the drama gave, and I liked the couple tropes, but they failed to light the drama early + there was no real plot.
So, if you have patience, like school vibes, handsome ml and pretty fl, cute couple moments, and don't mind a plot-less drama, but a life of a couple from their school years to their adult phase. I think it can be a good choice.
