Plot holes and the sacrifice trope only hurt an already mediocre romance story.
The visuals here were good and the acting was above average, but there were so many plot holes that I began to roll my eyes every episode. I get it is a challenge to deal with all the implications of being on a space station and aspects of it were compelling so as not to be a distraction but others were so obvious you wonder did the writers ever take a course in logic. One big let down was the lukewarm chemistry between the romantic leads. It had potential but the uncompromising female lead almost pathological need to value process over people, at least until the end, you knew she would have to pay a price for that. As such, the ending was particularly bad, including the blatant misdirection, twice, from the writers on the likely outcome in the last episode was very cheap, manipulative and annoying. While an obvious outcome given too many writers seem stuck on this K-drama trope of having someone sacrifice to atone for a past character failure. What was a mediocre romance drama, for several reasons, was certainly ruined by the ending.Was this review helpful to you?
Worse than terrible; do not watch!
What happens if you put too much of an ingredient, let us say, salt, in a soup? It makes it trash. This is how it went with this series, too.In my opinion, there are 2 big classes of Science Fiction stories: in one of them, everything is set in an imaginary world, where everything is fiction; the other class is when a few events or elements are fiction and the remainder is build up in a rational way around the few events. Probably you can easily see examples from each of the category.
In which category is the actual series? In None! At the beginning it seems to be the second category, yet the writer kept adding silly elements of fiction that were so exaggerated yet packed up as rational events to the point that the story became an insult to the viewer.
Well, bad ideas and big mistakes can happen to anybody, but that those pass several levels of control is unbearable. Not only the writer, but also the director and the decision makers failed lamentably in this case. The product is one of the worst quality one can find, staying in strong contrast to the invested money and to the abilities of the actors.
My recommendation is: do not watch, not even if you want to see a bad example.

“I woke up from the dream. You should too.”
Eve tells us so well in this quote: we too should wake up from this dream, because for me, this kdrama is a dream… well, more like a nightmare. The budget was huge for such a mediocre kdrama. It feels like there are really no screenwriters here, I can't believe that actors can agree to play in such a production.From the first episode, I saw that this kdrama was going to be bad, but I never thought it would be this bad. Although the soundtrack is excellent, with beautiful melodies and great artists like Jin from BTS or Seungkwan from Seventeen, these are the main positive points of this kdrama, with the aesthetics and the visuals in space that offer beautiful scenes.
Now let's move on to the last episode which nails the show. Honestly, it's a pretty sad episode, especially when we learn that Eve didn't survive and gave life to her daughter in space. I definitely had tears in my eyes during the scenes of life with the OST in the background, it was super moving.
Anyway, this kdrama had everything to be an excellent drama: great actors, a good soundtrack, but unfortunately such poor writing that today, we probably end up with one of the worst kdramas in Korean history.
What I remember here are Gong Ryong's words at the beginning of the show:
“I have always thought of the universe as a womb. Now I wonder if it is a tomb. Instead of a place of birth, perhaps it is a place of death.” - Gong Ryong

Disappointment
Great cast, perfect idea, amazing setting, and that’s where it ends. Unnecessary parts, unnecessary characters (three mothers). The ending was sad, but since there was no chemistry between the actors, it didn’t affect me at all.The best part was how they dragged it out for three episodes and then tried to cram everything into the last two.They could have gotten at least something right-the lottery, the morula, Eve. Instead, they just kept ruining everything.
I'm not saying there weren't a few nice moments, but this drama definitely didn't leave an impression on me.

Disappointing to say the least
After waiting for such a long time for Lee Min Ho to return to Kdrama, I was really disappointed. The drama in itself is overproduced. The story line is Ok I guess what with the space station and everything but the rest is really a bore.The chemistry between the 2 lead actors is non existant. I didn’t believe it for a single second. To be fair I am not a super fan of Gong Hyo Jin. she’s a fine actress don’t get me wrong but she doesn’t express much. I was rather shipping Lee Cho Hee and Heo Nam Jun who were super cute and had a better chemistry.
The story in itself leads to nowhere. The characters have no depth and are not particularly likeable.
Lee Min Ho, who had a lot of pressure for this drama, doesn’t deliver for me… and I was a pretty big fan of his.. I hope he’ll find his next project more rewarding.

In space, no one can hear you facepalm
I have finished this series and here are my final thoughts;I don't think the ending substantially changed my views nor my rating. In the end, the show becomes an existential tearjerker. I wasn't surprised by this development but it has certainly taken plot development to infinity and beyond. The FL could have returned to Earth but they are not getting off the ISS that easily. It is a narrative mess. Is it a dream? Did the writer-nim OD on special herbs? Obviously, it is hard to diss the ending as I don't want to speak ill of the dead but it is very tempting. My original comments stands, with minor edits. Peace.
~~~ my original comments ~~~
Rather than a rambling rant I'll hit you with some salient points. Here goes;
1) While the show is billed as a rom-com, there is a disassociation. Yes, there are comedic moments but they are largely at the ML's expense. The astronauts also gets up to some whacky stuff as well. They are more cringey than funny. You can feel the show labouring to make it work and it has largely given up by mid show.
2) Taking itself seriously is a fundamental problem with this drama. If it was written as a spoof then I can excuse many issues. As it stands, there is a serious disconnect between the hyper realistic setting and a fanciful plot. So much effort is devoted to reproduction in space. Yes, the story does come full circle but is that really the whole point of a multi million dollar production?
3) The series is full of pseudo science yet it laughs in Newton's face and do whatever it needs to move the plot forward.
4) Cue The Space White Truck of Doom™. Let's be real, the ISS is designed to function for years in the most hostile environment known to human and every system is designed with fail-safe and redundancy in mind. I don't have a problem if they did something dramatic with a failed valve or some such but they face catastrophic failures on multiple fronts as soon as the ML arrives.
5) They kept referring to the morula. That is BS because it is only called a morula on day 4. In another ~24 hours it will become a blastocyst as the cells divides every 12 hours. They are still looking at the same 16 cells after days in the incubator. My head hurts.
6) While I touched on the comedic aspect, we have to talk about the elephant in the room. The ML only met the FL a few times before the launch and she is always cold and aloof. There is no hint of any chemistry/attraction. Flash forward a few days after launch and he has the biggest crush on her but why should she reciprocate? Ah, yes, finding your man sleeping with your boss can do it. So . . she has revenge sex? Once they are back on Earth, the romance does progress as expected. I can sense the writer's desperate attempt to sustain the romance.
7) Which leads us to the relationship between the various protagonist. What a mess! There are so many unrequited love, crushes and toxic relationships. That is a recipe for disaster even in a normal k-drama, let alone in a space opera.
8) Chairman Choi is a caricature. His lording over everyone is so cliché. It is painful to watch and he gets away with it.
9) The whole lottery ticket plotline is like a game of Whack-a-Mole. It kept popping up every ep. The 3 astronauts just look pathetic. The scene where they wave the ticket around outside a restaurant is beyond stupid. No words.
10) The KSA is not a quasi space police. They can't interrogate people and confine them. The ownership of the zygote is very grey. Riding roughshod with science is bad enough, very iffy about their interpretation of extraterrestrial laws.
I have a feeling this series relies on star power and CGI extravaganza to paste over narrative gaps. It's a huge gamble and they lost, big time.
Why Why was this script allowed to be made ruining the image of beloved stars.
you could have had any 10 of the fans of these stars read it before hand and saved them a lot of grief. so much was just wrong i cannot even take time to list it. please do not do this ever again. I would have rather you stayed with the tried and true than go for glory in space. this was a tragedy i just cannot unwatch it.Was this review helpful to you?
The hate for this drama is unreasonable
I don't understand why everyone is hating on the drama. It's a fresh concept in a unique setting. The characters all peice together well and their individual plots / back stories make sense. People are hating on it saying the plot is irrational / illogical but its honestly a nice break from most of the cookie cutter dramas we have been getting. People complain that there aren't enough original dramas anymore but scream bloody Mary when they get a unique and original drama.I also like the romance between the main leads. People are saying that is feels forced and it came out of nowhere but I think it's cute. ML fell in love with her passion for the reproduction in space. Which resonates with his character as he reason to for going to space into space in the first place was to give couples with fertility issues a chance to have kids.
I'm beginning to think that people are only hating on it because they don't understand it. It's a solid 8 out of 10 for me.
Way better than the rating suggests.
I can safely affirm that most reviews on kisskh are no longer reliable, to say the least.I’ve seen idiotic dramas with bad acting and/or screenplays rated 8 or 9, whereas this drama only has a 6.6? If this isn’t an example of “herd mentality,” I don’t know what is. Seriously, I wonder what people usually watch to rate terrible shows so highly while giving low scores to something with genuine effort behind it.
Anyway.
Lee Min Ho grew on me with this role. I think his acting skills have improved significantly, and I used to believe he was one of the weakest among his generation.
Gong Hyo Jin, on the other hand, needs no introduction: she’s as amazing as always. And yet again, she proves to have terrific chemistry with her co-stars, in this case, Lee Min Ho. The rest of the cast is really strong as well.
For those complaining about how certain things weren’t explained—like how they managed to have sex in space or do this or that—and saying, in general, that “it wasn’t believable”… I must have missed the part where passing a NASA exam is a requirement to join kisskh. My apologies. By the way, while it’s said that having sex in space is very difficult, no one claimed it’s outright impossible.
And in any case, if your curiosity about the scientific accuracy of the show is so strong because that aspect fascinates you the most, I’d suggest asking Perplexity or doing some further research: you might be surprised by what you find!
The screenplay is solid. Is it perfect? No. But then again, my idea of a flawless screenplay is My Mister, and it’s hard to meet that level nowadays. If certain parts feel “implausible,” I’ll kindly remind you that this is fiction. Unless we’re directly involved in the aerospace industry, how can we know for sure whether something is plausible? Even if it isn’t completely accurate, there’s a concept called “suspension of disbelief” that seems perfectly applicable here without too much trouble.
The only thing that genuinely disappointed me a little bit was the ending. Not because it wasn’t executed well, but because I was 100% convinced throughout the entire drama that this was a rom-com, and I fully expected a rom-com-style happy ending… not the highly dramatic one we ultimately got. To me, the dramatic ending felt a bit jarring, considering the tone of most of the show up until that point. It’s actually the only reason I’m unsure whether I’d watch it again. That said, the resolution still had its strengths—particularly the “25th Hour”-esque moment with Eve, Ryong, and Byeol, as well as Byeol’s elegant flash-forward.
All things considered, it’s a good drama. Not flawless, but quite good, featuring excellent acting, great special effects (of the utmost importance in a drama like this), and a story that operates on multiple layers of depth.
what a waste of talent
There are so many talented actors and the FL actress is too good to be wasted with Lim Min ho.The good cast:
Oh jung se. a master
han ji eun
gong hyo jin. a professional
hey nam jun. (the good views)
Kim eun soo. a veteran
jung young. a veteran
jeon soo. a veteran
Jo jung suk. talented actor
back ji won. veteran ajjumma
Disappointed on the writer.
I'm so sorry for the harassment and bullying that the actress needs to endure because Lin min ho toxic fans cannot bear their jealousy and misoginy.
Don't waste your time
I don't consider myself a "hater", I really like the cast generally (some really great actors in this in fact including the leads). I also don't subscribe to the complaints that were raised about the show and the cast having no chemistry or some really unpleasant things set about Gong Hyo Jin. I'm also not going to mention (beyond this) potential agendas the show might have had about pro-birth and such. I don't think it's necessary to get a view of the show tbh.Putting all that aside.
The story is absolute trash, in my view, of course.
I feel the actors did the best they could but the story was a confused mess, with the most bonkers ending.
It played with sequences and events to create drama and then dispose of it just as quickly. One minute he's yelling at her that she's a murderer - which was a scene I thought played actually *really* well - and within the same episode they're lovey dovey. Not just once, but *twice* in two different episodes.
The crew of the space station treat it like a frat house.
One time they need to get a rescue rocket up - it'll take weeks to get one ready. Another time, same day or so it seems!
In one bit, there's no health implications for being on the space station. Later, any more than a few days will be fatal, because suddenly he hasn't had the training (which he presumably hadn't had before). Then one says to him that his condition is now fatal - so come home. Why? To die? "fatal" is a word that has quite a specific meaning. But, let's just use it to mean "rather bad".
ARGH!
The ending is just completely abstract. When compared with some other things shown in the course of the ending that are then implied to be false you're kinda left wondering - so how did this *actually* end then?
The cast did they best they could, they're top tier actors, the production had one of, if not the, biggest budget in a KDrama to date. Turns out - you need a good story to make all that worthwhile, but this wasn't even a mediocre one.
I don't know what went so wrong in a production for it to end up this way.
Just ignore it, please, save your time. I watched all 16 episodes because I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt until the end but honestly if I could wipe it from my memory and un-watch it, I would cheerfully do-so. I have not said that about any other KDrama ever and don't do so lightly here.
I hate saying something bad about a KDrama. :(
