A trip to space that never quite took off

I have to say I've watched it all the way through. I'm a total fiend and don't like leaving things halfway, but you can totally stop watching after two episodes.

I was really looking forward to this drama, especially for Lee Min-ho. Where the Stars Gossip started with an original and ambitious premise: a romance set in space, starring two strong actors in Lee Min-ho and Gong Hyo-jin. However, despite its potential, the drama never quite takes off.

The chemistry between the leads is also quite questionable. Even with two experienced actors, their connection comes across as forced and unconvincing. Scenes that were meant to be emotional or memorable end up feeling flat or poorly executed.

And then there's the ending... far from what one would expect after so many episodes. It's disappointing and leaves you feeling like the whole emotional journey led nowhere.

The production quality is good: from the visual effects to the set design. The best part of this drama is the OST.

In short, Where the Stars Gossip is a bold attempt to break the mold in K-dramas, but it ultimately falls short in both emotion and execution. A missed opportunity to tell a truly unique story with greater depth and authenticity.

Great show

I disagree with the low rating of this drama. It's a very good show. The creators clearly worked hard and did a professional job. The unusual story keeps you interested the whole time.
Good directing and camera work. Great cast with good acting from everyone.
Lee Min Ho's acting was amazing from start to finish. I wasn't his fan before, but this role and his role in Pachinko changed my mind. I'm now excited to see his future work.

Some might think there are mistakes in the show. But remember, it's science fiction with comedy. The first half of show has light humor, and some scenes are almost silly, but they fit the style and are well done.
Also, the creators explained many confusing parts. If you watch carefully, many things make sense.
The only thing I didn't like was how they showed the Korean Space Agency and Mission Control Center. Maybe they didn't have enough money for better scenes. Still, many space and technology elements are shown well.

The ending is very sad but believable.
After pregnant Eve goes to space and Ryong is sentenced by the court, there couldn't be a happy ending for them. We don't see it, but we can imagine the few months they spent together at the space station were happy.
They probably knew they wouldn't survive (especially Ryong). But as Eve says in the middle of the show, dying isn't so scary if you're happy.

For me, this show is about being loyal to someone you love, to your job, to science, to humanity, and to life itself.
The creators took a risk by choosing very difficult themes of space, obstetrics and gynecology, and made a great comedy that turns into a drama that really touches your heart. I think it's one of the best Korean shows.

I enjoyed 70% of the drama, especially the first half. When they arrived on earth, the protagonist and his moral superiority, his pro-life vision and the illogicality of his thinking really began to bother me. I can't handle the ending, of all the amazing and stupid things the screenwriter wrote couldn't they let Eve live? If anyone should die it was Kong Ryong. I know it's pro-life propaganda, but I think the actors did a good job with such a bad script, I really hated Kong Ryong at times and I think Lee Min Ho did a good job portraying him. I didn't like what they tried to imply during the last scene, the last episode really frustrated me a lot, I mean they produced a baby in space with zero gravity, the protagonist was able to fertilize an egg with his bare hands, they survived freezing to death, she had a baby in space and they couldn't let her live? Frustrating. At the end of the day it's just a drama, it's not that deep but I wanted to express my opinion, it's the first drama I saw on broadcast and what a journey it was.

P.s: beautiful scenes and excellent OST.

A MUST WATCH UNIQUE SCI FI ROM COM

I have watched until episode 6. In my personal opinion the script except minor flaws is outstanding and stands out from the rest kdramas who keep repeating the same love cliches… ( I have watched over 100) This is something different. Comedy is combined perfectly with action which is unique for sci-fi genre series !!! The performances of all the cast is excellent !!! In my country 🇬🇷 we only care if someone is good actor/actress, not age or beauty. Because actor comes from the word ACT !!!

Don't Let the Stars Fool You: This Show is a Total Flop

It starts with an intriguing premise but ultimately fails to capture the audience's attention in a meaningful way. The show’s concept, promising an engaging mix of drama and mystery, unfortunately falls flat due to weak storytelling and lackluster character development. The plot, while initially interesting, becomes predictable and struggles to keep viewers engaged as it progresses. The pacing is uneven, and at times, it feels like the story is dragging without adding much to the overall narrative. There are moments of potential, but they are often overshadowed by clichés and missed opportunities for deeper exploration.

The characters, though played by a capable cast, feel underdeveloped and struggle to evoke a strong emotional connection with the audience. Despite the good performances, the writing doesn’t give them enough substance to shine through. The relationships between the characters also feel forced, making it hard to invest in their journeys.

One area where the show does excel is in its visuals. The cinematography is beautiful, and the use of the stars as a symbolic motif is a nice touch. However, even these artistic choices can’t make up for the lack of a strong, cohesive storyline.

Ultimately, it is a show that had potential but didn't quite live up to it. It’s a missed opportunity for something truly captivating, and while it may appeal to some viewers looking for light entertainment, it falls short in offering anything truly memorable or groundbreaking.

Conception in space

The most interesting thing was seeing what the astronauts do and how they live in the shuttle, otherwise the outline was a little disappointing.
This poor boy was sent by her girl's family on a space mission as a tourist.
What an unusual price to get the hand of a millionaire's daughter!
At the basis of this mission are experiments on eggs and studies on birth in zero gravity.
When he risks his life to complete his mission, a second story begins, the one with the commander.
I liked the OST, especially the main song "Somewhere in this Universe" by Seung Kwan.

A fresh new kind of romance

I just finished watching the series, and I absolutely LOVED it!
I already knew how it ended, so it didn't surprise me too much, but I really can't understand where is the problem in this series.
Maybe the screenplay, a little weak in some places? I've seen, we all have seen, worse!
Phenomenal cast, Lee Min Ho did a great job, been amazing in both the funny and the dramatic parts! Finally a drama that isn't overly predictable! A romance different from the usual, in terms of themes, setting, storyline. I appreciated the effort to create something non-trivial, and I'm very happy to have finished the series, also because I liked it so much that I devoured it in less than five days.
I try to figured out where are the problems, but basically I think that many people doesn't like this kind of setting, or the music (incredible!! So good, and so right where to put them), or someone in the cast. It's okay. But please, stop saying the series isn't worthy, because IT IS! Everybody should watch it!

This genre deserves a better class of criminal

The above headline is inspired by the scene in "The Dark Knight" where all the cash from Gotham's mobsters has been stacked in a giant pyramid. And the Joker says to one of the crime bosses "You see, I'm a guy of simple taste. I enjoy, uh, dynamite and gunpowder and gasoline!" And then he sets fire to the mountain of loot.

The production team of "When the Stars Gossip" were clearly inspired.

Not for the part where someone writes lines for what became an Oscar winning performance.

Just the part where they amass an incredible amount of currency and then pour a toxic solution of nonsensical scenario, savagely bad dialogue, aimless direction, inept acting, bonkers subplots and staggeringly implausible relationships between characters and then drop a lit flare of pointless cgi effects on top.

The word "morula" should be banned from every script ever from now until the entire universe collapses into a giant singular black hole.

The person who thought it would make for comedy gold to put a single English speaker in a Korean space station full of Koreans who are all speaking Korean amongst themselves and with the Korean space command on Earth and doing Korean fruit fly sex experiments and eating Korean food and drinking Korean contraband booze and even the mice are probably squeaking in rodent Korean and EVERY SINGLE THING IS KOREAN and then MAKE THE KOREANS SPEAK IN BROKEN ENGLISH instead of having the English speaker attempt to speak Korean should be exiled. From earth and every corner of the internet. From this solar system. The Milky Way. And when we all end up in that one giant singular black hole with the entire rest of the universe, we're gonna hunt that dumb[bleep] down and exile him from that too.

So many more things to flambé, but it's just so dreadfully bad that it's not even fun to skewer.

"You see madness is like gravity. All it needs is a little push!" And this space stinkfest can get a little push right the bottom of the sea and forgotten.

Don't talk to me, I'm crying already' SPOILER (sad ending). Anyways I thought I'd give it a chance, even though a lot of people dropped it in episode 5 and guys I would say that after episode 5 it really picked up, even before episode 5. The cast was crazy, I was happy to see familiar faces. I was a little afraid of Minho, because most dramas didn't have fun with him, or he simply didn't have a chance to show what a great actor he is, here he managed to show it with 1 star and I'm proud of him! and as for the plot, the whole idea was original, funny and extremely interesting. There were even some "unexpected" plots. I also have to highlight the whole processing, because the way they processed the stay in space and it was crazy, it was really beautifully processed and I applaud them for that. I also applaud the great cast (Ehm Jin, ehn Seungkwan), who made me cry extremely every time (I almost broke down at the end, I'm still crying). So yes, it's worth watching!

the good

"When the Stars Gossip" gave me everything—love, pain, hope—but that last scene? It broke me into a million pieces. Eve Kim’s death was not just a scene; it was a dagger straight to the heart.

Watching her hold her newborn daughter, knowing she wouldn’t live to see her grow, was unbearable. The way she smiled through her tears, the way Gong Ryong whispered to her, trying to hold onto every last second—it felt so real. And when he let her ashes float into space, whispering, "Goodbye, Eve. See you again," I just lost it. That wasn’t just a goodbye; it was a love that would last beyond time.

The drama dared to go where most don’t. It didn’t give us a fairytale ending, but it gave us something unforgettable—raw, painful, beautiful. Eve didn’t just die; she left a mark, a love story that will echo forever. This wasn’t just a drama. It was an experience.

Not Good Enough

Korean Drama '' When the Stars Gossip '' is a space melodrama with a love story at its center.

First of all, the cinematography is impressive, and the zero-gravity scenes were well acted and filmed. The whole settings, costumes, and space scenes felt authentic and realistic as well.

Also, the middle part of the drama was quite enjoyable. The story has unfolded and the characters got better, with some suspense thrown into the mix to keep things interesting. The comedy part was also entertaining and carefully mixed with the rest of the genres.

However, the love story was not as great. It was oddly paced and it wasn't believable that they fell in love instantly when they arrived in space. The couple did have some cute scenes together in those episodes in the middle part of the drama, but, overall, it wasn't satisfying. The more mature scenes also didn't make sense due to the circumstances when it was 'conducted'.

Generally, the first episodes and the last episodes were really bad, as the story was all over the place, and it was hard to ignore the plot holes and nonsensical twists. Actually, and even though one should turn their brain off when watching this drama as the physical rules do not really apply, some things simply were too much.

Also, the ending was rushed, with a montage used to show what the time jumps robbed the audience of, and a lot of the side characters' stories were left unsolved.

Finally, all the performances were great by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, four out of ten.

Suspend expectations & disbeliefs! Like, all of them.

Forget this drama exists. Or, if you watch this, put all of your expectations in the trash can. I recommend considering it a comedy of errors. Also, I should note that this review is to help me reconcile the trauma from watching 'When the Stars Gossip'.

This drama is absolutely reckless with their script and they lost the plot whiplash-fast. Each weekend, I didn't expect anything other than laughs at the ridiculous acting, writing, and absurd filming. I couldn't comprehend why someone felt this was worth spending money on. It was predictable and the ending wasn't worth the cost of production. The OST was good, so at least they got that right.

The space station set was the most interesting part for me. It had the Uncanny Valley feel. I was also surprised at how long they spent in those scenes. Just don't watch too closely if you've seen any space walks or video from the ISS.

As for the acting? Let's just say I'm not a fan of Lee Min Ho. His acting feels stale and I think he lacks chemistry with his counterparts. I hoped that Gong Hyo Jin & co. would help balance the chemistry and bring some life. I think she did her best here, but it wasn't enough in romance-focused scenes. The script did seem to salvage this somewhat. The characters were constantly thrown into absurd situations where they had to rely on each other to survive the impossible. In cliche fashion, the ML would become uncharacteristically brave and rescue the FL. The remaining 90% of the time he was basically incompetent and required the FL to support him. If it weren't for this give-and-take, there would have been zero chemistry.
