"To scar it with a knife is like to scar ur heart"
I need to write these before I’ll lose my mind😭Special attraction happens only in rare circumstances. You can watch 20 trailers,or try 1 episode for many different C-dramas,but only one could pierce through to your heart.
The two main leads:a man with strong features and oozing sex appeal,is a perfect match with a woman of poised and exemplary beauty.
What it did to my heart:
😍I love all the "LQ" scenes, the best I love u is said during the fight eyy..eyy
😍I can't erase the episodes 2_ n 3_...eyyy don't take a shortcut, all the episodes are worth it if u watch it from down to the top
😔The painful part for me was when one of the Wei brothers died. One of my entertainers, the most bubbly one.
😆The scenes of Wei Shao together with adviser Gongsun and the Wei brothers made me laugh and giggle during 2:a.m at night. Just their expressions,u will laugh hard
😆A very funny scene when they fished out the lantern boats to see Manman's wish, and the cold husband was not on the list.
💪The most powerful scene is when Wei Shao burns Manman's portrait painted by another man. His emotion there, the anger was in place, the jealousy was perfectly expressed and the rage was very strong.
😇Precious scene to me: When Wei Shao suppressed his temptation instead of following his desire. The struggle there to control his lust made me struggle too. Sorry I take it personal. A man of wholesomeness, respect to his wife won over his indecent desire.
What's on my mind:
✔️ Great casts/best portrayals/no one left behind/everyone gave their best
✔️Perfect blend of romance, laughter, hatred and love
✔️When the mind talks the heart won't listen, but when the heart talks the brain will be forced to listen.
✔️Love can destroy the game plan called "revenge"
✔️Marriage should be like this.
✔️When the men go to war no one will promise that they will return home safe
✔️War is always started by the villains and the heroes will be forced to defend.
What drives me crazy:
♥️ Unforgettable lines from Manman's darling: from "ur words drive me mad" to "Can u just be my wife"?
♥️Unforgettable lines from Wei Shao's wife: from "small eyes and small heart to "he is willing to become my prisoner and I am willing to be his"
My mental health:
😭Can u give me the elixir? I think I drank another poison called prisoner of love.
😭Love now, suffer later for forgetting this wonderful ship.
Best quote: "Accept insult without flinching, see faults without exposing"
Enjoy the ride, the story balanced the pain and happiness. In this c-drama, you are safe..😊

Beneath the Veil of Duty: Love and Legacy
The story follows Xiao Qiao, a sharp and resilient young woman from the Qiao family, who has to step into her cousin’s place to mend a long-standing rift between the Qiao and Wei clans. Fourteen years ago, a broken promise led to the tragic deaths of Wei Shao’s father and grandfather, fueling his desire for revenge. To protect her family and fulfill the clan’s political goals, Xiao Qiao must win over Wei Shao and convince him to marry her.Their relationship begins on rocky start, filled with mistrust, hidden motives, and lingering resentment. While Xiao Qiao walks a tightrope to keep her clan safe and win Wei Shao’s trust, he struggles between his thirst for vengeance and the growing bond between them.
As both navigate the treacherous waters of family politics and power struggles, especially from the ambitious factions on Wei Shao’s side, they begin to see each other beyond their roles and expectations. Despite their occasional manipulation of each other for political gain, genuine trust and respect start to grow between them.
The story hooks you from the very first scene with stunning visuals, including high production quality and breathtaking set designs. However, after a dozen of episodes, it starts to slow down and lose its sense of direction. As the couple settles into their relationship, the pacing becomes noticeably dull, and if not for their chemistry, it might be outright boring. The plot seems to stop challenging the audience and instead focuses solely on the couple seducing each other. That wouldn't be an issue if that was the premise from the start, but we were promised a deeper, more interesting story that ultimately fails to deliver.
Also my second gripe with this drama is the acting. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed Liu Yu Ning’s past performances, and it was great to discover Song Zu Er. They do have solid on-screen chemistry, which helps carry the story, but when it comes to individual performances, the acting feels just decent at best. It doesn’t quite stand out or leave a lasting impression (it can be bad at times).
That said, I recommend watching it. It’s one of those series where the chemistry takes the lead that fan of romance will enjoy.

Started good but it became dragging
The Prisoner of Beauty started off strong with a promising premise, intriguing political tension, and some entertaining characters. I especially loved General Wei Liang — his character brought comic relief and depth, and his scenes were often the most engaging. His personality gave the story a unique charm. However, the series eventually became dragging and uneven, especially in the latter half. I had high expectations for Wei Zhao, the male lead, but unfortunately, he fell short. Despite being labeled a general, his fighting skills were unimpressive, and his war strategies lacked depth and believability. It’s genuinely puzzling how someone with such mediocre leadership was written as a top military figure. His character felt underdeveloped and failed to live up to the potential his role demanded.
On the other hand, Manman, his wife, was portrayed as perfect — intelligent, capable, and consistently outshining everyone, including Wei Zhao. While strong female leads are always welcome, it felt unbalanced. Manman overshadowed Wei Zhao to the point that he appeared below average, which weakened the couple’s dynamic and left his arc feeling incomplete and unfair.
In short, the series had good elements, particularly at the beginning, and Wei Liang made it worth watching. But the poor treatment of Wei Zhao’s character and the dragged-out pacing in later episodes held it back from being great.

In retrospect, there wasn't much going on with the overall plot. Good one and done watch.
I think "The Double" is my personal favorite example of a slow burn CDRAMA which has a plot that makes you want to keep watching aside from the romance.Sometimes the flirting and emotional development between the leads in Prisoner of Beauty can feel a bit awkward, even childish. For example, the male lead doesn’t go talk to the female lead himself but sends his guards to deliver messages — you kind of have to be mentally prepared for that kind of setup. When the screentime is just the two of them, it is a lot of back-and-forth obliviousness between them. And this is a majority of the screentime for the show.
The strength of this drama is the character building it goes through with the main leads. It's also not a typical palace drama. It’s set in a fantasy world with no emperor, just different territories vying for power, so the political dynamics have a different flavor. The male lead’s goal is to unify the kingdoms by building water canals and improving people’s lives. But this really didn't need 36 episodes.
As for the romance between the leads —The female lead doesn’t really start to fall for him & trust him until after episode 20. After all, they were from enemy clans to begin with. I think if you are watching this for romance only, it takes too long to get to the better parts, and otherwise the overarching plot is drawn out too long.
Wei Yan(actor Liu Duan Duan from Joy of Life !) was an interesting character who had plot twists I never thought would happen, but he felt under-utilized altogether.

Beyond Tropes and Timid Hearts: A Chinese Drama That Dares to Love Deeply
It had been a long time since I truly enjoyed a Chinese drama the way I did with The Prisoner of Beauty. This series captivated me from the start with its compelling performances and the beautifully communicated bond between the main couple. The storyline was thoughtfully woven, mature, and emotionally resonant—free from the exaggerated comedic tropes that often lead me to abandon other dramas. What stood out most was the profound sincerity in the dialogues, the elegance of the cinematography, and the quiet strength of the romantic moments—each one simmering slowly, patiently, like a love that knows its depth. The soundtrack, the supporting cast, the intricate set design, especially the stately mansions, all added richness and nuance to the narrative.
This drama has earned its place among my favorites, and I can already tell it’s one I will return to more than once. I only wish more writers, directors, and actors would take note of what a truly mature, intelligent romance looks like—rooted in character, emotion, and genuine connection.
Now that it’s over, I find myself unsure of what to watch next. Perhaps I’ll revisit other favorites while I wait for another rare gem like this one to come along. But for now, I’m left with the warmth of this beautiful ending and the sorrow of Xiao Tao’s final goodbye to her general.
A perfect 10 in romance.
“I do love nothing in the world so well as you—is not that strange?” — William Shakespeare
A final note: The lead actors, Song Zu'er and Liu Yuning, absolutely deserve to work together again. Their chemistry was nothing short of extraordinary. Liu Yuning, in particular, has quickly become one of my favorite actors. His presence—his height, his gaze, that quiet strength in his smile—makes him the perfect blend of hero and antihero (the kind I always fall for, especially when love redeems them in the end). He has a brilliant career ahead, and I would love to see him in a serious, emotionally complex modern romance, perhaps playing a commanding boss falling for a strong subordinate. I’ll gladly watch anything he does—and the same goes for Song Zu’er.

Pretty Good
For once the characters actually acted in a logical way and it didn't leave you saying "well that was stupid, why didn't they just tell the truth or talk it out." Female Lead was a bit too mousy for me and made Liu Yuning look like a giant. And at times you could see all the makeup everyone was wearing was thick! Loved all the generals and the Lady's maids. The story was good. Was this review helpful to you?
A Delicate Love Amidst the Chaos
Beauty of Resilience (Prisoners of Beauty) is a drama that hooks you from beginning to end. The story is well-written, the characters are engaging, and above all, the acting is outstanding. I highly recommend it!It’s a tale of love blooming amidst hatred — a simple story, but told in such a beautiful way that it works wonderfully. Even with a high episode count, the drama never feels tiresome; it’s easy to watch all the way through.
There are some minor plot flaws introduced to create conflict, but they don’t interfere with the overall experience. The romance unfolds slowly, especially from Wei Shao’s side, but that actually adds to the narrative, showing that real relationships take time to build. And when the couple finally comes together, it’s truly satisfying.
The soundtrack, costumes, and performances are all top-notch. It’s an amazing drama that’s absolutely worth watching.

More Than Just Romance – A Drama Full of Heart
The Prisoner of Beauty is not just a romance — it's a journey of healing, understanding, and learning to love again. I went into it thinking it would be like many other dramas, but it turned out to be something truly special. This drama shows that love is not just about sweet moments, but about patience, forgiveness, and personal growth. Both main characters carry pain from their past. They start out far apart emotionally, but over time, they build something real, gentle, and strong.
The female lead is simply amazing. She has so much dignity, strength, and kindness. She never lets life break her spirit, even when it gets really hard. The male lead is cold and guarded at first, but he slowly learns to see the truth, and his transformation is one of the best parts of the story.
There are many scenes that quietly touched my heart. Some moments are so honest and raw that I had tears in my eyes — not always from sadness, but from how human and sincere the characters felt. And even when it’s emotional, it never feels too heavy. There’s always hope, warmth, and light.
The pacing is just right — no unnecessary drama, no dragged-out misunderstandings. It respects your time as a viewer. The supporting characters are also well-written, and they all have their own part to play in the story, adding meaning and depth.
The music, visuals, and acting all work together beautifully. But what makes this drama unforgettable is how it makes you feel. It stays with you long after you finish it — like a soft, comforting memory.
If you’re looking for a drama that’s deep, emotional, and full of quiet strength, please give this one a try. It might just heal something in you too.

Best drama of 2025!!
I randomly decided to watch this while on my school holiday break (i’m a teacher) and I’m so glad I did. This is absolutely hands down the best drama and show in general that I have watched this year. This is joining my top 10 for sure, alongside the Untamed, love between fairy and devil and go ahead. I’m so sad it’s over. I wish it was longer. I really enjoyed the mix of plot alongside details in the main characters relationship, but also how developed the supporting characters were and the friendship/family they created for themselves. Big sucker for found family. I’ll be thinking about this show for months. Was this review helpful to you?
Match made in heaven
This drama is indeed living up to it’s name. You will be imprisoned! Captivating audience with the leads undeniable chemistry. The Enemy to lover, arrange marriage, hurt her and i will kill you trope has been portrayed with conviction! Rewatch value is also very high! (tbh, i’ve unto my 3rd rewatch as write this down) NO REGRETS!LYN the actor that your are! this is the first drama i watch from him and definitely will not be the last. His eye-acting? SUPERB. Voice? Having to act in a drama and singing OST? It’s like hitting 2 birds with 1 stone. I also learned, no one wanted this role before and it was offered to him. The dedication he put through portraying Wei Shao is commendable. He went to filming not a single script on hand cos he learned it and memorize it already. WHAT A HARD WORKING MAN. (I cried reading his looooong weibo about how he started internalized Wei Shao as a character).
SZE - this young lady is a a threat as well! Cant wait to see more of her in the future!
OVERALL 100000/10 for me! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟💫✨

An Unmissable Journey of Emotion, Performance, and Craft.
Finished it — absolutely brilliant. A one-of-a-kind drama you don’t want to miss. This is an experience that needs to be lived. The cinematography was fantastic, the direction solid, and the performances were top-notch. From the soundtrack to the costumes and overall set design, the production value was clearly high.If I have one complaint, it's about the screenplay in the middle — it dragged a bit. The drama started with an absolute bang, and you just couldn’t wait for the next episode. That same energy carried through most of the series, but it did lose momentum in bits and pieces during the middle. Still, it never went off track, which is impressive.
The finale, though, felt rushed. Several moments could have been executed more thoughtfully. The emotional transitions happened too quickly — and in a drama like this, where you've been deeply invested in the characters’ growth, those fast shifts can undercut the experience. It needed more time to let the emotions settle.
That said, the character study was fantastic. I truly hope viewers pick up on what I felt watching it. Overall, it’s a solid, powerful watch. Just little short to call it a masterpiece— but as i said it’s a series you shouldn't miss because the characterisation & performance of both the lead is masterpiece.
Rating: 9/10
