Action & story mostly deliver on this entertaining but unevenly paced show
Bambi Zhu seems to have been very quiet in the last couple of years since her last lead role in Cute Programmer. From the start of Fateful Love, it's nice to see her back at something she's quite good at: being a badass martial artist. Also showcased is a previously underutilized talent - she's funny!Zhu plays an elite military trained member of a scientific expedition, looking for new medical resources in some un-named jungle. An accidental fall into a cave leads her to discover a mysterious magical blade which transports her into a fictional historical China & into the body of a high ranking minister's daughter. Believing the dagger holds the key to returning to her world, she starts the hunt for it, only to find it in the possession of a royal prince.
While some body switch shows have the main character losing her memory & all of her skills, Han ZiQing remains fully aware of her previous existence, while gradually gaining the memories of her new life. She tries to hide her skills while secretly using them to find a way back to her world in the present. This creates comic encounters which might not seem very original but are deftly delivered by the cast. More importantly, one can develop sympathy for the FL & be interested in how she will get through her predicament as she gets more & more involved in the affairs of this strange new world.
I wonder why Zhu hasn't been cast with higher profile co-stars lately & this production looks rather low budget. But that doesn't mean the show isn't good. Although the ML is a veteran & I recognize very few other cast members, each delivers a decent performance & the story moves along smoothly.
At 40 eps, however, it's a long show as the FL just goes from one mishap to the other when almost everyone she meets tries to kill her. You forget what happened where without gaining any significant developments in the character, a sign the show is too long. The show only moves because of all the action scenes. The tone changes from lighter to darker & final 10 eps seem to suffer from choppy editing as battles come & go with the same footage & I sometimes didn't know who was fighting whom. Characters' motivations & moods change suddenly with very little build up so here the drama became rushed. Han Ziqing's story also seems to be pushed aside when you'd think she should be getting closer to solving the riddle to getting back to her world. And as bad ass as she started, she seemed to need getting rescued by her prince an awful lot, until she unlocked the door to back to her present at the very end.
All in all, the show was entertaining but an obviously long & complex story was unevenly paced especially at the end.

Fateful Love (2024) is a romance fantasy wuxia with Hans Zhang as Jun Bei Yue / 4th Prince and Zhu Xu Dan as Han Zi Qing as the leading couple. The series plot has too many attacks on the leading lady and the lead male is not always there on time to save her which made the plot repetitive and unnecessary with an incredible amount of characters that wanted her dead. The leading lady was capable and she did a good job performing her character as a strong and intelligent female lead. The male lead also did well performing his character so, where is the problem? Unnecessary characters that disrupted the flow of the story, the leading couple lacked romantic chemistry, and the end, although they seemed like they ended together, was not satisfying at all; he didn’t seem like he recognized her after saving her from the cave that she fell in at the beginning nor did he give any indication that he knew who she was when she embraced him, so much for a “fateful love”. This is a series where good and experienced actors seemed to just want to finish the drama and move on as fast as they can. Was this review helpful to you?

Poison
The plot fascinated me. This prince has expressly chosen as his bride, against everyone's will, the only woman they don't want. She came from the future and is a fighter and not the submissive girl that the family expects. The prince loves her temperament so different from the others.
I liked how the prince looks at her with heart eyes and pride and trusts her. Their chemistry increases episode after episode. Nice pairing!
Why are all the competitions between princesses and not prince? Women must have so many skills!
A little boring that all the people want to poison her.
40 episodes were perhaps too many and also all these people spitting blood were definitely too many.
I really liked the ending.

Fateful Love – My Thoughts
Fateful Love is one of those dramas that really grabs your attention in the beginning. The first few episodes were exciting, especially with the introduction of a strong female lead who time-travels to the past and becomes HZJ. I loved that even though she was transported to a historical setting, she retained her modern sensibilities, intelligence, and fighting capabilities. Those early moments where she adjusted to the past while keeping her edge were fun and full of humor—definitely a highlight. The central plot revolves around her trying to return to her world while uncovering the secrets and schemes surrounding her family and the people around her. While I enjoyed this concept, I noticed some inconsistencies. It's disappointing when a female lead who starts off as smart, sensible, and strong begins to lose some of that spark as the story progresses. I understand it may have been necessary for the narrative, but I hoped she would remain more unique instead of falling into familiar tropes. Given that she's from a modern, more advanced era, I expected her to stay more capable throughout.
Some plotlines also felt dragged out. Honestly, I skipped quite a few scenes as the pacing slowed. The villains were fine—nothing particularly memorable—but the fight scenes stood out. Most of them were well-choreographed, although certain moments, like the zither fight in the final episodes, felt unintentionally funny. It was a creative choice, but I personally would've preferred a traditional sword fight for a stronger impact.
As for the male lead, 4th Prince JBY, he was a bit of a letdown for me. While he's written as strong and intelligent, his appearance and styling didn’t convey that well, which affected how his character came across. He often looked weaker than he was meant to be. I know fans might disagree, but I felt the second male lead gave off more of a “main lead” presence and charisma.
Overall, Fateful Love was a decent drama with a strong start—especially the first 10 episodes—but it lost momentum over time. The soundtrack was forgettable, though not bad. The acting was solid from both leads, but the low-budget production was quite noticeable and held the story back at times. In the end, it’s an okay watch if you enjoy time-travel and romance dramas, but don’t expect too much depth or consistency.

Catches your attention but…
Fateful Love started off with a bang, immediately drawing me in with its exciting premise and captivating storytelling. The drama does an excellent job of keeping the audience engaged, balancing intrigue, romance, and action. The breathtaking natural landscapes added an immersive touch, making the visuals a true delight. Another highlight was the title song—catchy, dynamic, and fitting for the drama’s tone. The fight scenes were another standout, beautifully choreographed and visually stunning. As for the leads, they were both lovely and had good chemistry, though it wasn’t quite perfect. Still, their interactions were enjoyable, and their individual performances were strong. The drama also introduced a range of interesting characters, both main and secondary, making the world feel rich and well-developed.
However, there were some disappointments. One of the biggest missed opportunities was the music. With all the lavish banquets, dancers, and traditional qi instruments featured in the setting, it would have been amazing to hear authentic instrumental performances. Instead, we got the same generic background tracks, which felt repetitive and uninspired.
Then came the last stretch of episodes—where everything took a bizarre turn. The storytelling suddenly lost its grip, repeating scenes to the point of absurdity. The leads kept taking turns lying in bed in a coma, which meant we were left without either the male or female lead for long stretches. Even the secondary characters weren’t spared from this strange pattern. And to top it off, the final episodes became a reunion festival—every other character conveniently found their long-lost mother. It was unintentionally hilarious but also frustrating to watch the plot spiral into chaos.
Despite the downward slope in the last episodes, the overall experience wasn’t bad. The ending was okay—not great, but not a complete disaster either. Fateful Love had a lot going for it, but its final act could have been handled much better. If you can overlook the questionable last few episodes, the drama still offers an engaging story, beautiful cinematography, and some truly memorable moments.

Entertaining
Overall, it's a good storyline that keeps your attention. I loved the characters and the chemistry between the ML/FL/2ML. Beautiful, talented actors and not too many annoying characters which is typical in most C dramas, i.e. whining, super annoying childlike females ( only a few in this drama). The plot is interesting and original up to a point, at which time it becomes too repetitive, namely, every episode is about chasing, killing, torturing the FL over and over again. It gets really boring. Also, how did a modern " military" girl got all the ancient Marshal art skills to perfection in an instant when she took over the body of a girl who was weak and timid? Ok, we get the qin music part as the " host" was a good player.Overall, it's a good show and entertaining. I recommend this drama, have already watched it twice (second time fast forwarded the repetitive scenes)
Thank you for the great entertainment.

Main casts❤️❤️❤️
The main cast are awesome actors having watched some of their works. Some supporting casts were mediocre but at least some were good actors. My thought about this drama series is it is so heavy to watch. So much hate and tragic events non stop, one after another. It gets frustrating for a series to be like. Too bad because the actors are good.
Like everytime a tragedy ends.... Here come another.... Right from the very start of this series.... Never ends....
The scriptwriter might have been angry writing this🤣🤣🤣🤣. Or is living a miserable life.

Drama I looking forward too
So far I really love the story and fl character. I am someone who really don't pay much attention on scandal. Whether they are good or bad, we are human who make mistakes. I am not taking side and said the person is a good person, but I feel like it's unfair for other who work hard if everyone gonna rate the drama badly because of one person mistakes. I believe we should give chance instead of judgment. Was this review helpful to you?
Is There A Single Character Who DOESN'T Have A Secret Identity?
I'm pretty sure they translated the title wrong. It should be: Is There A Single Character Who DOESN'T Have A Secret Identity? This started out strong but fizzled out by the end. There was just too much going on to hold my interest without burning out. Seriously, but the last few episodes, when something happened to a character, I actually needed the overly emotional flashbacks to remind me why I should care.
But, I've gotta say, this is the first ever killer marching band army I've ever seen. So at least it had that going for it!

It’s surprisingly good!
I always check the comments here before watching something new, and I saw the score was below 8. So I was not sure go give it a go! So far, I’m impressed! I’m usually not a fan of shows that go back in time, but this one was interesting and funny right from the start. Watch it—you won’t be disappointed. Was this review helpful to you?

All over the place - too many characters
I like the ML and FL but come on.. this is all over the place there is a merfolk .. a somewhat dying whit hair crown prince and a prince whose mother belong to this powerful tribe.. just too many stories.. and FL kept encountering difficulties yet managed to come out on top.. aside that I like the more grown up flirting they have between the ml and fl which is rare in c drama.. I am like 3/4 way to the series and still don’t know what the merfolk and the now cured white hair crown prince’s story are.. and now We have all of sudden and snake Ten( the maid)?. Really?. So close of dropping it but since I already spent too much time investing in this might as well finish it.Was this review helpful to you?

Not sure if everyone else watched the same drama because what??
FL isn't really good with expressing emotions, especially romantic ones. She is a badass character when it comes to fighting and defending herself verbally, she is not your typical 'nice and takes sh*t from everyone' kind of female lead which I actually liked. But my god her interaction with the ML was just so bad. There was a scene where they were supposed to be arguing but she just looked playful and confused (or was just pretending to be clueless about why the ML was mad?). It's only in the next scene when the servants talked about 'their big fight' was how I realised it was a fight. There were so many scenes that were supposed to be sweet and them falling in love but I felt like skipping the whole time because the acting were just stiff/terrible.The storyline was all over the place, with this that and everything happening and it's so obvious that it's a low budget drama. I just couldn't watch it anymore when I missed a few days and then suddenly had 10 episodes to watch. It was ok when I had 2 eps to watch daily with nothing else to watch. It's not something I'd actually be curious to know about or care enough to watch how it ends. Definitely not rewatching.
