Thrilling Revenge + Sweet Romance
First of all, I was not a big fan of historical dramas. But this drama changed it. I saw some shorts of it and became curious and watched the first episode. From the first episode itself the drama was amazing .the visual, the acting ,the story everything is 10/10I really liked the acting of both of the lead actors. The female lead was killin it.
I highly recommend this drama to who hasn't started watching historical drama. It is really good.

A must watch - absolutely captivating!
Brilliantly executed and delivered by the director, editing, storytelling, script and actors. Every aspect of this drama was top notch! It will get you thinking how good can a Cdrama get. Congrats to the team.If you want a thrilling, suspense, mysterious love story that has you binge watching nonstop then this is it. The episodes go by so fast - that’s how great the storytelling is. What also gave this drama an edge was the direction of the camera shots for the main leads, it brought the scene more to life, made it intimate and brought the audience in. The lead actors did an amazing job. I have to give it to the director and the vision for capturing subtle moments from costumes movements to glances that adds to the scenes depth without having to explain through extra lines. Simply captivating.
I’ve watched this drama four times now. It’s one of my favourites. Sure enough it will be on your fav list too, you won’t be disappointed.

heart-fluttering, strong female lead and her amazing supportive husband
my fav chinese costume drama ever! made me obsessed with wang xingyue and wu jinyan, and i even started to watch the hi6 shows just to see more of the chemistry between the two because i just can't get enough!also i have so many random reels and youtube edits of xue li X xiao heng!
i am constantly listening the ost for this show to keep reliving it. DUKE SU and XUE LI SUPREMACY
life is full of surprises, but me watching and falling in love with a costume drama was definitely not on my mother's list of aoi's weird obsession list. she literally phoned me to remind me that real life --the sun and the cherry blossoms are literally blooming and do exist because i finished the whole series in two days LOL

The Last 15 minutes
Wonderful drama! Well thought out plot. Kept me interested throughout. Only one small flaw was the last 15 min of this series. I’m one for all dramas to end happily but how could I be left feeling neither sad or happy. Make me feel on way or another. I don’t like having mixed feelings at the end. It was like someone wanted to have a battle scene at the end with tragic deaths to me it served no purpose or significance but to leave the audience in confusion. Why rush this in the ending that decision was stupid. A better ending would be her pregnant and him returning home with a victory. Not him on a battle field losing his closest comrades in a lose lose situation where no one explains how he got out of it. He is just seen riding back to her at their tree: the end. No sweet reunion nothing. The Cinematography was beautifully done. I took off half a star for the last 15min of this series but man it still makes my blood boil. Was this review helpful to you?

A really good watch ??
A bold but also not unfeeling badass fl that doesn't drop her revenge two mins after falling in love - ✅A supportive ml who has an actual brain and personality outside of loving the fl -✅
Good side characters with actual explanation to them being the way they are -✅
( i.e stepmom and princess ,not defending them or anything but adding their perspective was good )
Great flirty teasing with amazing chemistry between leads -✅
All and all a great watch loved the actors but wish they didn't kill the maid and ml's friends they were such cuties

A must watch drama
All has been said so I will not repeat much except that this really is a must watch. Drama. You should binge watch it because you won’t be able to stop til the very wtf ending.Actually I will also add that the Youku, the producer, is very cruel and refuse to release the last 5 minutes of the ending. It ended on a wtf moment and leave everyone screaming. All is very well til the end. Apparently, Youku refused to release the last 5 minutes to other streaming platforms such as Netflix and Viki. If you want to watch a satisfying ending you have to subscribe to Youku International, a bad streaming service that really isn’t worth subscribing to.

A well developed revenge drama
The story is a well executed plot. I loved every character from the leads to the villains villains, everyone did their best.I recently got to know that the actor who played Ji Shu Ran is actually the FL of Taiwanese drama Fated to Love You. I didn't recognized her at all.
Jiang Li is a strong, scheming, calculative, smart woman. Who will do anything for her revenge? The way she planned to escape from the temple. Also, the way to turn every situation into her favor just with her words.
Xiao Heng is our typical handsome young official whom everyone is afraid of. He is smart, cruel, calculative, scheming. Love how he handles Jiang Li's every problem. Once a pawn to him, now her lover.
Wen Ji & Lu Ji are my favorite characters. Wen Ji loves to torture criminals. He loves to flip black in every situation. j when Poor Wen Ji is getting canes as punishment. He always says the right thing at a wrong time or wrong thing many times 🤣🤣🤣Jiang Li called him brainless was so hilarious. Actually, Wen Ji & Lu Ji remind me of Love Like The Galaxy Liang Qiu Fei & Liang Qiu Qi. There also Liang Qiu Qi used to be clever & Liang Qiu Fei always got punishment for talking too much without thinking. I'll never forget the writer killing them at the end. Their death was unnecessary. Tong Er death was also unnecessary.
Hated princess Wan Ning & Jiang Ruo Yao & Ji Shu Ran.
Loved Xiao Heng & Jiang Li rain fun. Jiang Li's drunken behavior was sooo cute.
Laughed how Wen Ji & Lu Ji backing away after hearing Jiang Li calling Xiao Heng by his name.
Loved the way Xiao Heng & Jiang Li flirted with each other. Also, the way they interact is also unique.
Loved how Xiao Heng removed Shen Yu Rong's clothes from Jiang Li with style then, picking it up with his fan.
Xiao Heng looked so cute when he was explaining why he was worried about the princess of Jiang Li.
The way ML said “Really” to Jiang Li for coming to his house every day to check the princess.
Laughed at Xiao Heng & Jiang Li's expressions after hearing Jiang Li's brother call him brother-in-law.
Loved Xiao Heng & Emperor friendship. In maximum dramas friendship gets ruined because of trust issues or power struggle.
Xiao Heng after checking Jiang Li's pulse, questioned "whose is it".

how can I move on
how can I move on 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 no fr, this drama has been my life and home for 40 episodes I am incapable to believe I ended it 😭😭 the chemidtry between the two leads? astronomical. The revenge plot? Captivating. The plot twists? Amazing. The villains? Beautifully developed. The depth? Immense. Tears? Cried. Laughs? Multiple. Smiles? Countless. My mouth kept dropping I loved this. I do agree that the ending was a bit rushed and open-ended but it is only a matter of 2 or 3 episodes in a total of other 37-38 amazing ones, so doesn't really change my opinion. Was this review helpful to you?
FL is a baddass
"The Double" was one the first historical Chinese dramas that I could finish in 2 days, and wanting to rewatch. I LOVE this drama. What i hated the most is how the production started to kill everyone. How dare they kill the most closest people of the FL and ML. I couldn't stop crying in the finale episode. It was so tragic, there was no reason to kill everyone.
FL is so intelligent, and ML so down bad for her. He even let the FL do all the scheming, that I love.
I feel like the father of the FL was just a victim of his wife scheming and lies, he didn't know what was happening in his own house. Overall 10/10⭐️

Love it
I always like watching her character since The Story Of Yanxi Palace. She knows how to bring intelligence to a screen! Her strength in this show is amazing I also like the ML too! They both brought a sexy appeal to the show without over doing . Although I was very saddened about the beginning but it set the stage for the genus FL to bring her powerful personality acting skills to the table to show them who to pick on. The ML was amazing they both brought flair and charm to the table.. i love a good Chinese drama when the FL will win with her wit, intelligence and wisdom to run the show and take power lolWas this review helpful to you?
Complex Storytelling and Rich Visuals
This is excellent storytelling from all elements. Powerful visual, cinematography, costuming and well matched musical soundtrack. The show has strong storytelling arc with rich layers of intrigue, and tension balanced with just the right amount of comic relief. The complex characters are enhanced by strong acting. The actors are so on point they are able to convey subtext via nuanced facial expressions and body language. The narrative grabs you and keeps you engaged episode by episode so the viewer is desperate to know what happens next and how the story will resolve. Multiple viewings are encouraged to get all the small details and layers of development. Was this review helpful to you?

Rich historical series with political intrigue, strategic mind games, and emotional depth
The Double is an exceptional historical C-drama that stands out for its strong acting, beautifully composed score, and—most notably—its well-constructed and coherent storytelling. It's rare to find a drama where the screenwriters truly respect character consistency, plot integrity, and narrative pacing from beginning to end, but The Double delivers on all fronts. The political intrigue, strategic mind games, and emotional depth are portrayed with precision and subtlety, making the stakes feel real and personal. The drama skillfully balances personal bonds with grand-scale political tensions, never letting one overshadow the other.
That said, in my opinion, the only significant flaw lies in the ending. While emotionally powerful and beautifully tragic, it seems to introduce a logistical inconsistency. (Note that I am no expert in Chinese History and War strategies, thus the screenwriters might know better)
------ SPOILER ALERT : do not read if you have not watched the whole show --------
The central character, Duke Su (Xiao Heng) is not only a brilliant general but also a key advisor stationed in the capital, commander of elite troops, and the backbone of the Emperor's intelligence network. Throughout the whole story, we see them playing a deep and cunning political game, maneuvering people as pawns. Sending such a high-value individual to die on the frontlines—especially when there were less critical pawns available—strains credibility because it would leave the emperor and the capital vulnerable to future threats. Given his role, it would have made far more sense for him to oversee operations from a strategic position, especially considering the Empire’s long-term stability and his wife waiting for him back home.
Moreover, while Duke Su’s sense of duty and honor would certainly drive him to share the fate of his men, the Emperor’s pragmatism and the capital’s vulnerability would logically outweigh that impulse. The decision feels narratively forced, as if made for emotional impact rather than in-universe logic.
The bonus episode showing Duke Su coming back some years later (the tree they planted has grown significantly big, so we can guess 2-4 years at least) attempts to soften the ending by showing he is alive, implying he somehow survived the battle... This is nice, but rather weird considering how the drama ended at the 40th episode: it was quite clear he had died on the battlefield.
Still, this flaw does little to diminish the overall impact of The Double. It remains a gripping, well-acted, and thoughtfully written drama with excellent pacing and rare narrative discipline. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a rich historical series that respects its characters—and its audience.
