Wow.

I used to watch many dramas but only finish one or two a year now. A drama has to grip me from the start and be consistently good for it to be worth watching. Also, has to have some sort of redemptive morality to it.

Well, there's a lot of revenge and killing. However, I appreciate the values this drama upholds (namely, take responsibility for your own evil deeds and repent, take care of the common people).

The romance is very minimal, which I appreciate! Those looking for lots of steamy scenes will be disappointed.

Antagonists are portrayed extremely well! As much as I want to hate them, the actors and actresses did a great job!

In the book, ML is supposed to be 9 years older than the FL. IRL, the actress is 11 years older than the actor. In the drama, they mostly seem like the same age. It still works, but I did need to mentally adjust for it.

For those who are interested in reading the book...
- Characters' personalities are consistent between drama and book. (This is very important to me.)
- The book contains an extra 50 chapters of story that is mostly about the ML that does not exist in the drama.
- Many of the scenarios featuring the ML helping the FL in the drama were originally instances where the uncle helped the FL. I think they wanted to increase ML/FL interaction in the drama, so they gave those bits to the ML.
- The drama is more dramatic, haha.

I am in love with this show.

Oh my god !!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in love with this show. This show is perfect balance of everything which makes a series blockbuster.

Its not a typical chinese drama. Feminism is highlighted which i loved the most. I love all the characters in this series but the ML Wang Xing Yue really caught my attention. I love the martial arts effect of his fighting scene. Female protagonist is also doing a great job and has a very exquisite rational character. I like her.

Never skipped a scene, everything about the drama from the cast, cinematography, acting and story is so beautiful. Beautifully executed and casted.

A Tale of Brilliance, Sacrifice, and Satisfying conclusion.

I just finished watching this beautiful drama, and it was quite an experience. The first couple of episodes were so captivating that I ended up binge-watching 10 to 12 episodes in a single sitting. While the pace slowed down a bit when the FL went to Luoyang and her hometown, it wasn’t too bad and still held my interest.

The strategic planning and scheming were masterfully written. I loved how sharp the leads were, constantly decoding their opponents' plans and crafting brilliant counter-strategies. The story was intriguing and kept me hooked throughout.

Some moments hit me deeply, like Tong, the maidservant, sacrificing her life and the FL proving her father’s innocence before the emperor. The ending was absolutely satisfying, especially the extra five minutes—it felt like a treat for the viewers.

However, I was disappointed with the decision to kill off Wenji and the other personal guard of Duke Su in the final 15 minutes. They were fantastic characters, and their deaths felt unnecessary.

Although I’m not usually a fan of period dramas, this one was undeniably excellent. It was a bit long, but given the complexity of the story, it felt justified.

Dead fish eyes disassociated me from the drama

I love everything and everything about this drama. So little mistakes and flaws to be remembered. Except the FL wu jin yan and her dead fish eyes looking god knows where. She might be quite successful in portraying a blind character in the future. She is very talented but those stares to the mountains when she should be having a loving gaze with her beloved gave me seizures from anger. I was watching and kept telling myself does no one warn her? What is the director doing she is not even staring at the camera when she should. It was so hard to concentrate.

not bad

It tells the story of Xue Fang Fei, the daughter of a well-off county magistrate who lost everything after a major upheaval. Saved by Jiang Li, the daughter of the Secretariat Director, she took on the identity of Jiang Li and returned to the capital.

With the help of Duke Xiao Heng and others, she overcame numerous hardships, tirelessly fought against injustice, rescued her father, who had been wrongly imprisoned, assisted Xiao Heng in upholding justice, and protected the common people. not bad

A REWATCH C DRAMA

One word to describe this serie: AMAZING and definitely a REWATCH. Love the FL and ML plus all the actors that played all characters did an awesome job.
The story is very intriguing and in the beginning it grasps you to the FL right away and makes you feel all kinds of emotions because of what she's going through. It stirs you up in wanting to avenge for her and what she has gone thru.

One of top five c–drama i watched so far

There are just no words to describe how good this is. From the story executed right for once, to the character development and very likeable supporting characters. This series long of 40 episodes kept me engaged from first to last without any boring moments, the romance was streched just enough that trough series you want more but can still wait till the end to fully develop.
I was glad to see that on FL journey for revenge they showed loses on her end too.
This show made me feel deep emotions. The sadness on some scenes when backed up by music made my heart hurt. Drama was successful in transfering sadness, gladness and moving moments to viewers.
If i didnt watch last 10 minutes of the show i would give it 10/10, but well i watched it xD Not a bad ending but if they finnished the series 10 minutes earlier (which would still fully wrap out the story) it would be much more satisfying.
Even with those 10 minutes its still one of the most recommended shows. It deserves all its rating or rather it should be even higher. It was intense journey for the viewers so embrace yourself but dont miss it.

Always a step ahead

my last C-drama was Yanxi Gong Lue... this show brought me back to the realm of C-drama...

although quite hard to watch 30-ish WJY act as 20 year old female lead, she does have the charisma and air to portray the deep thinking XFF. its very satisfying to watch how XFF takes down all the enemies through strategy and wit.

male lead is an eye candy and hard to believe he is 10 years younger than female lead. i enjoyed the interaction between the leads and the various side plots along the way.

music is great too, alot of memorable songs. will rewatch if time permits.

epic comeback

This revenge drama is absolutely amazing and a must-watch. I don’t even know where to start, but the cinematography, filming, case design, and acting are all 10 out of 10. One of the most interesting parts is how the female lead’s actions unintentionally drive the story forward. She writes a poem admiring the princess of the country, and the princess sees it and mistakenly believes it was written by the female lead’s husband. Feeling that someone finally appreciates her sacrifices for the country, the princess decides she wants the female lead’s husband, not knowing it was actually the female lead who wrote the poem. This misunderstanding sets off a chain of events that eventually shapes the entire story, leading to the main characters’ fates and bringing everything together.

There are also many villains in this drama, and each one is very well developed. The female lead takes them down one by one, but thanks to the male lead, she receives help—not in a way that feels forced or one-sided. He also gains something from it, so it doesn’t feel like he’s just helping her because he likes her. Their dynamic is complex and satisfying, which makes the story even more enjoyable.

DEPRESSED and DEFEATED

First of all, the casts are remarkable! Every actors in this drama are outstanding and needs to be praised for a job well done! This drama is a bit heavier than "One and Only" and quite serious. The tone is constant from ep. 1 to ep. 40. It got enough romance and a little comedic relief, though the female lead is not someone who know martial arts, she is strong and wise and still on par with the male lead. However, this drama is tiring to watch. If you think you've watched enough plot twists and scheme troupe, this drama took it to the next level. From the beginning to the end, every episodes makes yoy emotional in every way. This drama gave me depression, when you think that things are getting better by the first have of episode 40, it was the calm before the storm. This drama has so much potential, and still enjoyable to watch even though its torturing, I held hope for the ending but the writer blew it off! So, no. I am not okay! I shpuld give this a 7/10. 😭

Love, Loyalty, and Betrayal — A Drama That Refused to Be Boring

From the very first episode to the thirty-ninth, not a single moment dragged. The power struggles between the royals and the influential figures were gripping—sharp, emotional, and full of tension.

The male lead is one of those actors who doesn’t rely on exaggerated expressions. He plays it cool, subtle—but when he does show emotion, it hits hard. His rare smile? Melts hearts. You just want more of that quiet fire behind his eyes.

The female lead is already a well-known powerhouse, especially in costume dramas. She doesn’t usually dive deep into romantic scenes—maybe a brief hug here, a gentle kiss there—but it’s part of her charm. She carries herself with restraint and grace, letting emotion speak louder than touch.

This drama never once bored me. Every twist kept me guessing—who would rise, who would fall, who would betray. The royal princess, though, stole the show for me. She was ruthless, calculating, and fierce—a woman who knew exactly what she wanted, no matter the cost. Once her backstory unraveled, her bitterness made sense. You almost can’t blame her for the choices she made.

Even the side stories had weight and heart. Everything tied together beautifully… until the last episode.

Ah yes—Episode 40.
That one left me torn.

The male lead sets off to quell an uprising after the prince’s failed coup. Before leaving, he plants a tree with the female lead and promises to return when it’s in full bloom. But the ending? It’s vague—painfully so. You see him surrounded by enemies after his loyal guards are killed. Then suddenly, the female lead runs to the tree… and he appears.

Was that reunion real, or just her dream? Did he die and return to her in spirit? The drama doesn’t say, and that open ending left my heart hanging.

According to the novel, they eventually have a child—but the drama doesn’t make clear if the child was born while he was away, or after he came back. I would’ve loved to see that closure onscreen.

Still, despite the uncertain ending, this drama was pure brilliance—emotionally charged, beautifully acted, and impossible to forget.

i got what i ordered

the double was a thrilling drama to watch. love ! it ! when a revenge plot is executed well. binge watched this and i was still hooked after watching 25 eps and that.. is not a common occurrence. if romance is what you’re looking for you might be disappointed because that is not the main point of the drama though it was not frustratingly annoying to wait for them to get together. its not a mindblowing show that i’d be obsessed with for yeaaaars but it is one of the good ones from this year’s line up! totally worth the watch
