RomCom where Com is before Rom

I dunno when was the last time I saw a rom com that made me laugh so I much. I would categorize it as a comedy before a romance though romance is certainly a bulwark of the plot. It had a plot that certainly used the general tropes of romcom genre but they were used well, the cohabitation, the cold powerful CEO and the bubbly cheerful FL. Yet they were not mere props but actually used to move the story forward. ML definitely made me a believer in the character he was portraying, as did all of the support cast. If I had to pick one thing, I'd probably say the FL while good in her own scenes, left me feeling a bit empty in her scenes with the ML. I don't know why, but their chemistry was better when they were not in love. Which is weird to say the least?
The comedy was perfect, the supporting cast did an amazing job and their characters were just adorable. I do like my romcoms with a dash of bromance and this was bromance X 6 (let's not forget the prosecutor nyim). Speaking of, I wish his story arc was also closed to some extent. While I agree that to show him switching to another woman right away would be depicting him as a shallow person, which he is not, I wish the closing scenes had shown his movement forward, we know the officer in his office likes him, would have been nice to at least see him realize there is a spark there.

The story of preconceived notions, society's harsh views and redemption, was relevant, we often forget that our criticisms and harsh judgement can deter someone from trying to do better, because we push them back towards the path they are trying to escape, simply because it is what they know, it is comfortable or it is all that is left available to them in order to survive.

All in all I highly recommend this story if you like fluffy, rom coms with focus on comedy, bromance and what it means to be family.

Cute and chaotic

Hilarious and chaotic are the two words that come to mind when I think of this drama. It was great and made me laugh a lot, but fell down a bit towards the end. As many dramas sadly do, it started out very strong and as it went on it dragged on and lost steam. It would have been better if it was less episodes, in my opinion, but despite the fact that it was longer than it needed to be and had some poor acting and weird scenes at the end, it was overall an entertaining experience and wonderful drama for laughs and lighthearted fun.

a nice little drama

I had no expectations going into this one but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The premise is fine , but I didn't love the angle of the FL being a 'kids content creator' or the 'cutesy' sorta stuff around that .

That said what did it for me was the ML his acting even when overly cute with the FL was great , combined that with a raspy sorta voice it fit his character's background to a t and was pretty hot in some of the romantic moments which ... Are a bit fewer and farther between than I prefer .

The secondary cast was great , I don't think this show would be half as good without them cause while the main leads are good in their own way the comedy is truely rounded out by the support cast's interactions with the main couple.

All and all I really liked this drama and the pacing of it , it was neither too short nor too long and didn't over stay its welcome in the slightest. I can't say i'd watch it again but i was happy i did the one time.

Excellent romcom

Very brief synopsis:
The female protagonist, Go Eun Ha (played by Han Sun Hwa) is a struggling children's content creator, who by chance gets tangled up with a firm run by a former gang boss.
The CEO of this company, our male protagonist Seo Ji Hwan (Um Tae Goo), wanted to break free from his mobster dad and ratted him out to the authorities years ago, sending his dad to prison.
After some initial misunderstandings, Go Eun Ha and Seo Ji Hwan end up falling for each other, but there are of course other players on the field, as well as the struggles of running a business as a former mobster.

First of all: This was a rather fresh series, a bit different from a lot of other ones. Stands out a bit like how "Knight flower" also did for me, even if that is a different genre. It's kind of like they don't view/take themselves so seriously.

My Sweet Mobster has got charm, humour, romance, and some action and suspense.
It also showcases what I imagine is a very real struggle: to turn your life around as an ex-convict. This series are in a non-preachy way showing that they often are very normal, compassionate human beings too.

Cast was brilliant, and the main couple worked well together - although I would say Um Tae Goo probably impressed me a little bit more than Han Sun Hwa, as I also think his role was more challenging to portray.

I don't always notice the music, but this time I did, in a rather positive way.

I have very high standards for "rewatch"; it is mainly only a topscore of 9 or 10 that means I myself would consider rewatching. This lingers between 8 and 9 on rematch value; I have just finished, so I might reevaluate when digested my impression a little more.

cute and funny

This was such a nice and chilled K drama absolutely loved the combination of the cute female lead and the cold but soft male lead which was absolutely amazing. The storyline was so good. The side characters were perfect loved the proposal that was so adorable overall this is a very nice drama to watch and binge watch on a lovely weekend. It’s that kind of K drama that you watch when you just want to relax there’s a lot of funny scenes and those are my favourite funny scenes. Like everything just makes sense I was watching it on a weekly basis but it does have a binging potential so I would definitely recommend this kid drama. Do not judge it by anyone else else’s reviews. Just give it a shot and I promise you the first four episodes are so good.

Sweet sweet story

A different themed kdrama. I’m putting this on my favorite list. Just watched Lovely Runner and thought I wouldn’t find another show that I liked as much as I did it. This is such a sweet story and the ml is so adorable in his innocent crushing on the fl. Who cares if it’s far fetched. I think we are all here for a cute story and romance. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every episode so far.

A beautiful series

I started watching this drama with no expectations since I am not familiar with the ML and FL but wow, this drama is just amazing . I loved the story and acting. It is so funny and is addictive. This will be one of my fav kdrama. The second couple is too cute. The supporting cast has done a good job.
I can't wait for more episodes.

Cheesy, boring, and forgettable

This is a typical K-drama with overused tropes - childhood oppas, piggy-back rides, cutesy FLs, a love rival. The story follows the same old trend creating a mediocre FL with no real talents. In comparison to ML, who is a former bad-boy mobster, tall and handsome, wears black, and has a voice as smooth as velvet, she is an unattractive, clumsy female who dresses like a grandma and has no real talents or ambition. But, a woman with a fashion sense and career aspirations is portrayed as an opportunistic b*tch. So therein lies the problem with this trope, the writers attempt to create a relatable girl-next-door stereotype, but end up with a clumsy and annoying mess who can't even wipe the floor without causing a scene. But, we are supposed to think this 30 y/o numbskull is adorable.

The plot is slow and draggy. The two main characters have no real chemistry because the romantic scenes are reduced to comedic tropes. Their conversations are middle school level cringe, even though both are in their 30s. The only reason why ML is even attracted to FL is because she is good with kids, a rare quality indeed. And, as soon as he is attracted to her, all of his intelligence and bad-boy charm go out of the window turning him into a blubbering idiot. Apparently, the writers decided this level of tropey garbage is a convincing romantic development between two grown adults.

There is nothing new here. The plot is filled with the same boring cliches and underwhelming romance.

My Sweet Mobster underrated Drama

My Sweet Mobster best rom com of the year. Deserve highest Rating..
This series is definitely a depression killer, I'm glad I watched it, it gave me a great time for 2 months.
is the definition of a real romcom. l smiled, giggled like a silly, laughed out loud and cried too.
Yes, My Sweet Mobster is such a good representation of childhood friends to reunited greenflag lovers trope but let us not forget they also served us very silly chaotic sworn enemy in the start. :)
Seo Ji Hwan puppy eyes when in love, but a cold-blooded gangsta who only sees blood when being messed around,
quiet, shy, soft, and kind-hearted pookie man with extraordinary quirkiness and awkwardness
humble and religious, and yet the voice—THE VOICE
that eargasm voice— will bring heaven to you!
don't even get me started with his outstanding comedy. He is hilarious without even trying
Uhm Tae Goo outstandingly played the many layers of Seo Ji Hwan. He might not be the typical love at first sight oppa, but as you continue to watch him, you'll get captivated deeper and deeper by his unique charm and appeal. He's an undeniable talent who can pull off both looks and performance.
 OUR HYUNGNIM SEO JI HWAN
Thank you Tae Goo oppa for accepting this role. <3

"Eun Ha, I want to be your subscriber and love you for the rest of my life."

LUV THIS PROPOSAL SCENE one of the best Proposal ever K drama.

And my another fav scene Turns out the “oppa will make ramyeon for you!! ” on the aegiya kaja scene is an adlib by Tae Goo < thank u Tae goo

My Penguin couple, My thirsty deer members. l miss them so much
Definitely rewatching again an again…
Please Watch this amazing series and give it a higher rating…

My Overly-Sweet Mobster

I pushed through but I think I regret it. A bit of an unintentionally frustrating show.

The comedy is definitely the main point of this show, despite the fact that it's not really that funny. The humor is very silly to the point of it being cringe, and many of the side characters (like the mobsters) are so obviously supposed to fill a specific comedic role, but the character development and execution is so poor that it just comes off as cringe and completely see-through when it comes to the writers' need to include every single rom-com trope. So many scenes with the side mobsters felt completely unnecessary simply because I wasn't given any real reason to care for them as characters. Sure, they were given brief backstories and introductions, but none of it felt genuine or realistic given the comedic nature of the show, so we're just left with empty surface-level characters and are still expected to care about what happens to them and their relationships with the leads.

The ML is an interesting character being a mobster and all, but is portrayed as child-like to the point that I couldn't imagine any realistic scenario where someone would be in a relationship with him and not be put off by his exaggerated reactions and fear of human contact. There’s a scene where he’s sitting on a bench next to the FL as she tries to scoot closer to him and he reacts so over-the-top to the point that he’s literally shaking out of even the thought of making physical contact. This made me completely disconnect from the romance. The FL spends too much time lingering on feelings for a boy she knew as a small child (yet another "destiny/fate" trope), which to me feels like a simple way for writers to create drama and "emotional" scenes without having to actually put in much effort, because the trope writes the narrative for them. On top of this, the ML does the typical ML thing of not being able to communicate properly which leads to misunderstandings and angry FL scenes, which ultimately leads to him having to apologize.

The FL is not much better to be honest. She’s silly just the like other characters and does not act her age, has trouble communicating like the ML and instead gets upset but doesn’t try to talk it out at first, and continuously jumps back and forth between the ML and 2ML despite “rejecting” the 2ML. Not really in a romantic way, but definitely feels off when the 2ML is already so head over heels for no reason and doesn’t know when to give up even after being rejected.

The 2ML is rather annoying, but I guess I just don’t like love triangles. It’s your typical love triangle you’ll see in like 90% of rom-com dramas. And of course his name is coincidentally the exact same name as the boy the FL has been looking for. I feel like his devotion and lowkey obsession with the FL doesn’t really make sense. We’re not really given a solid explanation as to why he’s so committed to winning her love despite being rejected. The constant jealous ML vs. 2ML scenes throughout the show got boring and annoying very quickly. Sometimes it felt like the writers were trying to find any reason or opportunity to insert the 2ML into the scene, even if the scene would have been better off without him in it. The ML even expressed in a scene with the FL that he didn’t like how she was hanging out with the 2ML all the time, yet this didn’t really change the large amount of screentime the FL & 2ML have together throughout the show. I nearly dropped the show after the scene where the FL is in danger (as usual) and the 2ML swoops in and takes the blow for her. I really didn’t want to have to sit through an entire episode where the characters have to take care of and feel guilty for the injured 2ML, especially when the ML was already going through so much with the conflict in his company. They should have focused on the ML’s conflict instead in order to give the ML & FL an opportunity to develop their relationship instead of shifting the focus on to the 2ML again. There’s also a 2FL, but she’s barely in the show and honestly doesn’t contribute much to the story or the love triangle.

The side relationship between Ju Il Yeong & Koo Mi Ho was admittingly pretty cute despite its flaws. Sometimes I felt more excited to see them together than the leads. Still not really enough to overlook the basic plot and tropes. There’s also a villain played by Im Chul Soo who does a good job in acting, but his character is so intentionally evil that I can’t really take him seriously. It seems like the writers wanted him to be a Joker type villain with all his mannerisms, even down to the “why so serious?” line in one of the episodes.

Overall, almost everything about the show just felt uninspired and recycled. Like the writers had a formula for rom-coms that worked in the past, so they decided to just switch out the characters and call it a day. The plot progression always felt like it was playing out exactly the way the writers wanted it to play out, but in an unnatural way. It’s like watching the script unfold scene by scene without any real emotion or excitement behind it. Maybe I’m just experiencing drama burn-out considering the amount of positive reviews for this show, but there are definitely plenty of flaws nonetheless.

Great Feel Good Series

I really enjoyed this Series. The male lead was great and the story line was good. I liked how there was some bad but the good won in the end and the relationships were fantastic. Finally a show where the female lead is not whiny and gets on your nerves because she's so immature. I like how they showed everyone deserves a second chance in life and not to look down on people just because you don't understand them. Just a really good feel good kind of series and I kind of hope they do a season 2 and show how they're doing today.

Where has this mobster been all my life?

This drama has me giggling like a kid. Its so sweet and light hearted. Where has this ML came from??? His voice is OMG so 😍. Hes also very handsome. Ive never seen him in anything before and now I need more with him in it! And II young the second of the gang is such a cutie too! Honestly I feel the FL is kind of annoying and they definitely could have found someone prettier. Other than the FL the rest of the drama is great! I even like the second FL.
