An Endearing Romance Between an Ex-Mobster & a Sweet Content Creator
A bittersweet romance between a soft-hearted ex-gangster and a kid’s content creator! When I first started watching this show, I thought it was so silly. The female lead’s hijinks were epic and hilarious, paired with the other ex-convicts in the makeshift family she moved to, “My Sweet Mobster” was endearing and adorable. It was also my first time watching main leads Uhm Tae Goo & Han Sun Hwa in a romantic setting, and they didn’t fail to impress. The show might not appeal to those who like fast paced love stories, but the irreplaceable charm related to slow-burn romances is rather underrated. The same goes for “My Sweet Mobster”, our sweet couple take a lot of time finding the middle ground for their budding yet delicate relationship; and yet you can’t help cheering for them from the sidelines. They are just so darned cute, I fell in love with the whole concept of a gangster trying to reform his life and founding a new family. The strongest trait of this show wasn’t the romance between the main protagonists or the unwarranted love triangle they were caught in; it was the familial ties they formed with the other ex-convicts in the house; that sort of bonding is truly inconceivable.

Sweet & Super Cheesy
Once a legend in the mob world, the ML is now a CEO whose company offers a fresh start to ex-convicts. His past, however, doesn’t want to let him go.
Inspired by her childhood friend, the FL is a content creator for children. She’s trying to make her young viewers happy with no strings attached, which can lead to conflict with her employers.
After many embarrassing, comical, & painful misunderstandings between the Leads, they form a friendship & gain an understanding of one another. The bond they once shared as children is just as firm when they’re reunited as adults.
This was much more fluffy & cutesy than I was expecting. A bit OTT at times for me, but you may think differently. It’s not that I didn’t like the characters, they just acted more innocent & naive than I would’ve liked given their ages/life history.
The quirky crew of former mobsters bring lots of comedy to the screen. The second couple is adorable. Finding out everyone’s pasts that lead to their present lifestyle choices is good to see.
And the Leads are great people. The ML’s protectiveness for his crew & overall caring nature are swoon worthy. And his voice… 🫠! The FL is very strong & kindhearted, accepting the guys warmly despite their pasts.
Together they’re so sweet. Their interactions are like those of young teens discovering the first taste of love. Their connection is true & their bond deep. They’ve only ever had eyes for each other & seeing how that plays out with the wanna-be love rivals is satisfying. They’re a couple who faces a lot together so they deserve the HEA they fight to obtain 🩵

Unexpectedly VEEEERY good.
Despite of the cringey relationship between Jihwan and Eunha, I would really like to rewatch this for the hundrenth time..It was kinda boring at the first and second episode, but I enjoyed the rest!! I would love for the other characters' back stories to be shown in the drama, I think it'd make me fall even more into this drama.
This drama has it own attractor that wont let go of people dropping this drama : Uhm Taegoo's voice.
I feel like I've been driven crazy by his voice and his everything like UGHHHH please just this once...
But I feel like Uhm taegoo kinda lack at kissing, or did he do it on purpose for the plot (that Seo Jihwan never dates a girl so he basically never kissed one) but that's not a big problem since they don't really kiss too much.

Hilarious Start, But Then They Lost It
Truthfully, I feel this show has a really high potential. The idea is unique: how come a gangster, a youtuber and a prosecutor cross path together? Unfortunately, this brilliant idea just turned into your average rom-coms. Most of the shows are cheesy and swoon-worthy. The comedy is the highlight of this show, as they have stressed it from the very first scene. However, consistency is the issue in this show. The trope about the triangle love and Ji-Hwan father's gang are quite dragging. While you can smile and laugh all the way during the first half, you'll smile less and instead raise your brows during those phases. In short, 16 episodes is too long. The casts do a pretty well done job here, especially the Thirsty Deer employees. They are really hilarious. Han Sun-Hwa plays the cheerfull Go Eun-Ha well. As for Uhm Tae-Goo, he plays Seo Ji-Hwan, someone who is clueless to love and romantic feeling. However I feel like he drags the cluelessness into other situation, including while he is facing his opposition or while he is on the company meeting. Hong-Gi says that Ji-Hwan is a person who has an exact same expression throughout all situations, but to me he always looks confused.
Character development is the thing that I hate the most in this show. Most of the characters don't have mature thought. As a group who has experience in a lot of bad things, I don't expect them to keep making questionable decisions. I don't really understand why Ji-Hwan needs to resent Eun-Ha (by saying she is just a tenant), as well as what Il-Yoong does to Mi-Ho (keeps saying it's a mistake repeatedly). This ML and FL couple is quite confusing. They seem dating after coming back from the trip, and even kissing after Eun-Ha confession to Hyeon-U. But when they are alone together in the house, why they suddenly become awkward? Also I don't understand the reason Hyeon-U keeps chasing Eun-Ha after seeing her together with Ji-Hwan, and also randomly stops chasing her for no valid reason. I think they created character Ko Yang-Hui for the comedy purpose, but I feel they failed to make use of it properly. It is also unfair that not all of the house members get their backstory.
The soundtrack is quite enjoyable. I'll recommend the show because it still has a good comedy and romance, also you will swoon a lot!

To put it in simple words this is one of those clingy, cringy dramas! Let the word cringy, not fool you though! It justifies the title name perfectly. The man is manly but sweet only for his girl. The man who follows his principles but still doesn't disrespect his roots.
The girl on the other hand is just a humble sweet girl who wants to make her dream of keeping children happy come true!
Their chemistry was missed a bit and got too cringey but you can see why! Because their personalities were not similar. They needed the cringe and clinginess to be together and that is cute!
The drama depicts a good amount of laughter, silliness, drama, action, I wouldn't say it was 100% balanced but it was a good job done!
The dramas recently were a bit disappointing, but this one has a very new concept and is intriguing to watch.
If you're a fan of Romance-Comedy with a bit of action story as a backdrop, this drama is for you!

This is a pretty standard kdrama romcom. Personally I felt like it was only okay, though to some degree that may be because I am not a big fan of comedy and this has a lot of pretty silly stuff in it.For me though there were still a few standout aspects:
- Uhm Tae Goo (ML) portrayed his character with more depth and nuance than many male leads bring.
- Yang Hyun Min (ML friend) brings a huge amount of comedy to the show, while also a lot of heart. The writers really gave him stuff to work with and he made it work.
- Im Chul Soo (antagonist) also brough tons of depth and nuance to his character. He was very vibrantly portrayed.
- All the gangster friendships are very wholesome and nice to see male friendships handled like this.
- Moon Ji In (2FL) is a character I enjoyed though she doesnt get that much screentime, I felt like her character was very realistic and had character
To be a bit critical of some things:
- The female stories are largely brushed aside. In a lot of ways, the FL is just a centerpiece that the actors revolve around, and doesn't actually get to be the focus of the story very often
- The FL and her main antagonist get their resolution basically off screen, another failure to focus on the female stories going on
- Way too much slapstick stuff for my tastes. The ML not being able to handle drinking was utterly absurd. The main antagonist (while entertaining) was also hard to believe he could maintain his position or power while behaving the way he was.
- The romance didn't feel warranted, they mostly just like each other because they have history together, they don't really have anything in common or vibe that well together, which in a situation like this makes it feel like he only likes her because her innocence represents something he lost. Which would be a pretty shallow reason to love someone.
- The final episode was a very weak ending, just a lot of filler and checking boxes

I expected more from a drama with a gangster
"My Sweet Mobster" follows Eun Ha, a kids content creator who unexpectedly runs into Ji Hwan, a former gangster who's now living a new life. The two become entangled with each other and eventually Eun Ha comes to live with Ji Hwan, because she lost her house. With time, they become closer and fall in love.My biggest problem was with the character Eun Ha, I know that because of her work she has to act cute and stuff, but that doesn't mean that she has to act like that ALL the time... eventually her "way" was really annoying me.
And also, for me there was no chemistry between the two main leads characters, the funny scenes were so much better than the romantic ones.
It's a sweet, light and easy to watch drama. I should have been expecting that for the poster and synopsis, but I didn't think it would be so childish.

I stayed for the handsomeness that is our ML and got hooked
What a great show! Listen...It would have been a 10 if not for the first three episodes of the MF being insufferable. Luckily, I stuck around because I enjoyed our ML's voice, his personality, and his squad (I truly loved everything with them, and the importance of his company/their goals). I'm just so happy that our MF got better by episode 5 and the series got its footing. Was this review helpful to you?

Cuter Than Expected
At first I had a hard time getting into this story, and I was instantly annoyed by the over done lack of communication trope. Nobody can just be honest because god forbid we don't cause unnecessary drama. lolBased on the title, description, and main art, it's clear this is meant to be a cute little drama, but it's much cuter than I thought it would be. During the times where I struggled with this show, it was the mobster friend group that really saved it for me.
I'm a sucker for outsiders taking in someone new as well as someone liking and hanging out with someone others would not, so it was nice to have both.
I liked seeing them warm up to her over time because they saw how different he was with her around. The 2ML and 2FL are adorable, but that whole thing where she was insistent on not wanting him was drawn out. Just get together and call it a day.
Also, I was hella surprised to see even the implication of s*x in a kdrama, let alone pregnancy outside of marriage. I mean, I'm used to kicking my feet when they hold hands for the first time 12 episodes in. lol It wasn't the worst, it was super minimal, however, if I wanted hookups and unwed pregnancies I'd watch crappy western shows. lol
Overall super cute and I love that they had the two oldest go on that blind date and didn't force that to work, but instead made it so she supported them still living there. Initially I thought they were going to force Dong Hee and Ye Na on us and I didn't like it at first because she had not redeemed herself. By the end of the show I would've been more okay with it, although I like that he stuck around with the group.

The best Korean romcom of 2024!
This is certainly one of the best dramas Korea has ever made. The way they handled the reinsertion of prisoners into society was a great success. The comedy and romance were well developed and applied and still had room to explore drama and action. The performances were excellent, even in the comedic moments the actors were not caricatured. The script left no loose ends, was fun and fulfilled its purpose. The first two episodes may seem less interesting, but they are worth continuing. The fact that it is a romcom that has a story beyond the couple is what makes the 16 episodes not boring and not falling into the same old formula. 16 episodes of pure art! The best romcom of 2024!Was this review helpful to you?
