Dramaturgically opaque fabric of a multi-dimensional plot tapestry

At first glance, "Hide" is none of the spectacular KDrama productions, yet on the solid side of KDramas, I consider this production first class.

We get an extremely complex crime thriller in which white-collar crime is intelligently mixed with many other criminal activities as well as incitement to and covering of criminal activities, plus fraud and adultery and even more. It is based on the Welsh television series “Keeping Faith” from 2018. However, the KDrama freely unfolds its own, definitely South Korean-tinged storyline. (There, of course, the Jaebeol shouldn't be missing, ...who, together with their henchmen, are significantly assigned the role which a gangster clan played in the Welsh series...)

“Hide” definitely offers a dramaturgically opaque fabric, where motives and entanglements reach beyond 'today', too. Continuously weaving surprising twists into the multi-dimensional plot tapestry turns out to be the great strength of “Hide”. Thanks to the entire production team in front of and behind the camera the story grippingly enfolds…and enfolds… and enfolds…

And in true KDrama-like style, no character remains one-dimensionally black or white - no matter how questionable or malicious they may act. Likewise, sooner or later we can relate to the motives of the different characters and why they were drawn into dishonest or even criminal actions. (Even if you don't have to approve of the actions, let alone like those characters.)

Complex. Dense. I would recommend this gripping crime thriller to fans of the genre, who like it with a topping of Korean emotionality.

It's getting good. Don't trust the bad reviews.

This show really isn't as bad as people are saying.

From the acting to the storyline, I'm enjoying it quite a lot. I like the female lead for her intelligence, and love Do Jin's character for his kindness.
Also, I expected to feel frustrated with the female lead for keeping things to herself or making poor decisions, but it wasn't as bothersome as I thought.
Oh, and the villains— the villains are both intriguing and detestable. I can't wait to see where this storyline takes us next!

Edit: Now that I finished this drama I have to add some things that I didn't like.
The ending was a bit to open for me. I wished we could've seen the trial of the villains and maybe some more story for Do Jin. But it was fine.
Also some dumb decision werde made. It was the smaller details. For example: turning your back to the "enemy" to call someone or letting your child roam free outside while the villain is planing to hurt it. Annoyed me but it's bearable.

I just suggest you to watch it and then decide for yourself whether you want to continue or not.

This drama is a 7.5 - 8.0 for me.

Hide': A Suspense Drama that Misses the Mark.

Despite its promising start and the attraction of thriller and suspense tags, 'Hide' ultimately falls short of delivering a gripping experience. While the initial episodes set the stage for a suspenseful ride, the predictable plot twists and lack of genuine surprises leave much to be desired. The recurring theme of cheating as a subplot feels overused and detracts from the overall suspenseful atmosphere the drama tries to create.

However, 'Hide' does have its strengths, notably in the stellar performances of its cast. Lee Bo Young shines in her portrayal of Na Moon Young, skillfully capturing the nuances of her character's various roles. Lee Chung Ah also impresses with her portrayal, adding depth to her character beyond mere stereotype.

Unfortunately, the inconsistent pacing and frustrating plot developments, such as Cha Sunge Jae's continuous escape from arrest despite being a known culprit, hinder the drama's ability to maintain suspense. While the cinematography and soundtrack are serviceable, they fail to elevate the viewing experience to a higher level.
The suspense thriller development in "Hide" falls short of expectations, failing to effectively cultivate doubt or intrigue among its characters. Instead of carefully crafting a narrative that keeps viewers guessing, the drama quickly reveals which characters are dubious or on the side of good by the fourth episode, robbing the storyline of its potential for genuine suspense.

Finally:
'Hide' may offer moments of enjoyment, particularly for fans of the Thriller/Suspense genre, but it ultimately fails to live up to its potential as a gripping thriller.
Good pick for Thriller lovers..

Great acting but not gripping enough

Na Moon Young’s (Lee Bo Young) husband, Cha Sung Jae (Lee Moo Saeng), goes missing and is discovered to have died in a car crash, leaving problems to his family. The more Moon Young investigates her husband's past, the more conflicting stories are revealed, leaving her unsure of whom to trust.

The first two episodes sets up a good momentum; it was intriguing with the fast-paced plot. It was thrilling when most characters were suspicious, that I couldn't trust anyone besides Moon Young. It was also nice to see Moon Young was a strong female lead who fights back with her smart and cheeky moves, that led towards few satisfying winnings for her early on. But with that early twists, the suspense plateaued it was not exciting anymore. Every moment, every motion that the characters made, it was obvious on how everything was going to work out, even if there was some major twists. I'm tired with the plot and I'm tired with everything that happens around the husband. Despite everyone's great performance, I did not connect at all with any of the characters. In the end, I don't think it was worth it for all the predictability and tropes.

Good Enough

Korean Drama '' Hide '' is a mystery melodrama.

The series has a smooth start and it keeps delivering twist after twist, with the family drama getting more and more intense.

The pace was also pretty fast and it kept things edgy and intriguing till the very end.

The performances were, in addition, pretty great by every actor and actress in the cast and the main female lead was especially enjoyable.

There were, however, some boring parts of the drama, especially in the first episodes.

So, overall, eight out of ten.

ROUND OF APPLAUSE

THE ACTING IN THIS DRAMA IS TOP-TIERRRRRRRR...
I've always been a big fan of Lee MuSaeng. His acting is always amazing but the side that we got to see in this drama, made me fall for his acting skills once again...
I don't think, Lee BoYeong's talent needs any introduction, like always, she delivered her best in this drama too....♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
Now, let's talk about the story.....Every episode of this drama was meaningful, no extra scenes, no dragging story....Everything was perfectly balanced...

I wanna mention my most favorite scene, soooo SPOILER ALERTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!

The moment, MoonYeong sees her husband cheating on her, instead of crying and blaming him, she drives her car into the house and beats him with a golf stick.....Woahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Queennnnnnnnn>>>>>>>>

Not so great, routine random twists

Never seen a stupid drama like this. It’s just 6.
if you have lot of free time, you can give it a try and however don't expect the same if you like 2 or 3 initial episodes.

Characters are so inconsistent…. It’s neither mystery, horror, action, revenge , law… and no way close to thriller…. Many random inconsistent characteristics.
1. Supposedly ML, Why he hides and lives like that and again later he gets into affair and dont care much about family is awfully inconsistent to me.

2. ML Mother's: Is she stupid mother or what.... omg insanely crazy... (except lead actress most of them are insane and lead actress is crazy in her own way)

IMO, There is nothing much to write. its not dark as well.

However Good acting by all the actors, still this doesnt make a good drama to watch..

You never know people fully

An ex-prosecutor, mother and lawyer lost her husband in a car accident. Apparently he met his death in a cliff and the police believe that he committed suicide.
She faces debts and many dangerous situations, but the biggest surprise comes when she discovers that her husband is alive and not at all the good guy he seemed to be. Kidnapping, twists, lots of bad news... all ingredients of this series.

Revenge is the key word and I won't say anything else.
The plot was quite well constructed.

Great wife! I admired this tough and intelligent woman. Even she was scared, she faced situations head on.
I also like the character of her prosecutor friend.

The end of 9th episode seems to be the conclusion of the series, in the meantime there are other "troubles".

I found it right that the series was made up of 12 episodes and not 16.

Villans!

So much took place in 12 episodes. One thing is for certain is that no one's hand is clean in this drama except the police for once. I didn't really care about who did what because the why's were just so unexplored.

Do jin woo was hands down my favorite character along with the FL's best friend. It's so sad that they're characters were never explored especially Do jin woo. His backstory would've been elite, but they limited it and instead used the time to run around with the villans. I would much rather they answer questions about his background than to have seen the barking they did at each other (I'm talking about the FL's side versus the 'bad' guys)

FL and her daughter were alright. I didn't see much chemistry between them sadly. There was more between her daughter and husband. I have so many questions at the end too. Nothing felt completed. I want to call this an open ending. There is not a lot of action in here, just a lot of talk.

Such a weak drama, not even Lee Bo Young can save it

"Hide" is a suspense/thriller based on a tv show called "Keeping Faith". I didn't watch the original tv show, but I can say for sure that this version just didn't work.
It tells the story of Moon Young, a successful lawyer, who's married and with a child, life couldn't be more perfect but out of the blue, her husband Sung Jae goes missing and after that, the police finds his body in a burning car, with a suicide letter. Moon Young doesn't believe that and starts to investigate what her husband was doing the days before his death and what she finds, makes her overthink everything in her life.
Sung Jae was lying to Moon Young all the time, doing illegal things and even cheating on her with Yeon Joo, their neighbor and their daughter's teacher. We discover that Moon Young's father stole the identity of Yeon Joo's father, living his life and Yeon Joo did everything for revenge.

I love Lee Bo Young, she's an spectacular actress, but it feels like the drama didn't want her, almost like she was forced to be there. Her clothes were ridiculous, too big and didn't fit her right and the character development was laze. Basically all the characters are shallow, none of them really stand out, neither did the story.
One really big flaw of the story is not show the change in Seong Jae, from a good family man, to a person like that, who would do anything for money.

Drama that should stay hidden.

Hide - a drama that should stay hidden away and out of your watchlist! The most part, an extremely boring drama filled with confusing or extremely weird dialogue and direction, although a couple of things saved it from being a complete and utter borefest, with these reasons ultimately being why I did not drop it (although I had considered dropping it a few times).

Okay, the positives. The lead villain, the SML and the fighting/action scenes. I really like the inclusion of a female murdering villain, something I don't see much of but always like to see for a change. The SML was acted essentially well and generally a likeable character I believe the audience could root for. The fighting/action scenes, choregraphed particularly well, making it feel like genuine fighting.

Okay, the main negatives, because a list containing all the negatives would be too long to read. The dialogue (already mentioned I know), pacing, directing, and acting. I won't name specific names because at the end of the day actors are humans with feelings, but there were three in particular who performed poorly throughout the drama. The pacing was horrendous in certain episodes - some sections I think watching paint dry would've been more enjoyable.

Anyways, whilst it's not the worst drama I've ever watched, and there were a few positives, I do not recommend watching 'Hide'.

Underwhelming but by no means an awful show.

I think if you're more into melodrama than crime thrillers you might like it. But it's a soft mix of both.

The plot unraveled in a way that wasn't as exciting as I expected. The finale felt kind of goofy in places too. Mainly unrealistic.

Some parts of the show felt like it was running in circles and got draggy at times but there was always at least one great scene in each episode the moved the plot forward and kept me interested. The actors played their roles very well and the cinematography was excellent.

Knowing me,I'll likely forget this show existed but I don't feel it was a complete waste of time.

Also Poor Bom. :(
