Romcom, romcoming right: The Ultimate Kdrama Starter-pack
It has crime and fantasy elements, but just as plot driver, doesn't change the genre much. It so focus on the main couple without too much filler scenes. Some parts have angsty tone (for me, mainly episode 1), but somehow I see them as filler only, so like I said before, not a lot of that. This is the type of drama that 100% will have happy ending. So all the angst doesn't give me stress at all. It just give boost to the romance narrative, like, "I love you more than the life itself."-narrative. The antagonist story is lame, doesn't worth to occupy your mind, just see him as plot driver. His ending is so quick, but suitable to the story. The rest of the plot is just light and fresh romantic story. So yeah, it just... romcom? It's sweet and romantic and funny, cringe sometimes but in good portion. The plot is not super heavy nor boring. Actually, I doesn't have much too say except it's a romcom, romcoming right. Basically, story of two simps that we all love😂🤭
The visual is great, the actors acting nicely, the story is well written, good cinematography, good OST, nicely edited. Will written in history as another great drama stared by Kim Hye Yoon and the drama that finally give Byeon Woo Seok good role. Also, another reminder that Kwon Jung Yeol only sing soundtrack for success drama, haha.
It's worth to be included on "The Ultimate Kdrama Starter-pack".
Ps. No hate to the drama, but just want to give a note. If anybody want to get rid your belonging, please throw that to trash bin or recycle bin or whatever proper place according to your country system. These movies and dramas keep throwing things to river or ocean to get rid their mementos. That things would not suddenly disappear, for goodness sake! Just end up as aquatic trash! I've seen some people doing that in real life because fiction making it seems 'romantic' or 'dramatic'. Not cool guys.

Feel good, light-hearted watch
I'm giving it an 8.5 rating overall simply because I felt happy watching this drama. I initially watched this 'cause I loved Hye Yoon's duality from Sky Castle and Extraordinary You. I've already watched tons of time travel themed series and I still loved this one. I'm not really into romcoms (I prefer thriller, mystery, crime, etc.) but I watch them after heavy dramas to balance my emotion. Some shows are meant to be enjoyed and not overanalyzed, it's just a fantasy after all so there will be plot holes. Was this review helpful to you?

I was pleasantly surprised that the romcom and time travel aspects went well together, but the serial killer scenes were a bit off due to the abrupt shift in tone- the scenes would go from warm and sunny to cold and overcast with menacing background music in one instant. The villain was also flat and caricature-like, but given that this was just a plot device to keep the leads apart longer, I didn’t expect an interesting antagonist as if I were watching an actual thriller. It wasn’t a deal breaker though, and I found myself enjoying this for the most part. The female lead was spirited and charismatic, the male lead was lovable and warm hearted. They had a cute, adorable chemistry.
I also like the creative way the drama used time travel, like when the female lead blurted out spoilers to be able to pause time so she could get from one location to another. Im Sol's determination to protect the male lead, Sun Jae, was endearing and admirable, but it could get frustrating at times; the results of her efforts would tell her time and again that trying to change certain events would only make things worse, but she kept making the same mistake. Then again, I understood why. If you knew your loved one would end up getting murdered, I guess you wouldn’t be able to stop yourself from trying to prevent it either, even if your efforts were in vain.
This is a female centric show, but I don’t think of this as a flaw, more like a preference. If you want to see something that has an equal focus on both the leads, or is male centric, this may not be your cup of tea. Most of the story is from the female lead’s point of view and you only get bits of Sun Jae’s perspective later. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a preference for one trope or the other, but if one automatically dislikes a drama because of that one aspect/trope, it might be more practical to just choose another drama that has what they like. There is no point in watching a sports drama if you hate sports, anymore than it being counterproductive to watch a detective story if you hate that genre. I have my own set of preferences and tropes which I normally go for, but if another drama didn’t have what I liked but was still good, I wouldn’t rate it badly either.
Regardless of a drama being female centric, equally focused, multi-perspective, or male-centric…I want a drama to be good at what it does (be good at what it's trying to do), entertain me, be fast paced and have likable characters.
I think Lovely Runner succeeds for the most part. The plot didn’t slow down from beginning to end and while the leads were an odd couple- not just in terms of how they looked together but also how opposite their personalities were (manic, headstrong female lead, shy and vulnerable male lead) they were likeable and sweet together.
My main gripe is that I dislike the drama's over-the-top, slapstick humor. I found myself rolling my eyes at some of the jokes and gags, which were exaggerated. The male lead’s father getting stuck in the bathroom for a whole day because he was too weak to open the door... the second couple (the female lead’s brother and her best friend), were excruciating* in their courtship. They would jump into ponds in plain sight in the middle of the their school campus to avoid being seen, hide in lockers and cabinets, talk in extremely high pitched voices even a deaf person could hear…the toilet humor incident they had which got the best friend to like the brother...I felt that these scenes were plain unfunny and just added filler. They did more to detract from the drama and did nothing to enhance it.
The female lead herself, while spirited and charismatic, was a bit grating at first; she was way too over-the-top for me (shouting at the top of her lungs, etc), especially during her “high school” days, however, she gets better and mellows down during her college years. I don’t particularly care for her voice. I was trying to pinpoint what exactly bugged me about it. I’ve watched many an anime and asian drama with an annoyingly voiced female lead (ex: Orchid in Love Between Fairy and Devil, Sang Zhi from Hidden Love, etc) but they didn’t bother me…finally I realized that it’s because these female leads have high pitched girly voices which fits their age/character type.
The actress playing Im Sol has an old lady voice which doesn't sync with her appearance. It was like watching a 70 year old woman (with a syrupy sweet voice) talk in the body of a 30 something year old. The scene were Im Sol dresses in a monk’s costume with her face covered where she warns Sun Jae not to become a swimmer…I could really imagine an old woman as the embodiment of that voice.
The actress can’t help it though. It's her natural speaking voice and that aside, both she and the actor did fine; their performances weren’t extraordinary or anything like that. I could easily imagine another actress or actor playing them, but they delivered well and entertainingly. The rest of the cast were alright. There’s also a love triangle here, but it’s mostly played for laughs. I think the story does best when it focuses on the leads.

"Memories don't disappear instead they all are smeared into your soul."
I am high on this show, engulfed by it. I am 10 feet under somewhere with hands on my heart coz it won't calm down. Finally a kdrama with such a perfect end. This is how you wrap up things, this is how! The audience should feel this much by the end forgetting all the sorrows endured by them and the characters throughout, forgetting the hiccups if there were any. I was guessing a lot while watching, wondering how are they going to answer these questions and if they could wrap it up with ease and they did. For me, they did."Memories don't disappear instead they all are smeared into your soul. Even if my brain forgets, my soul hasn't. It's been keeping every piece. of it"
The quote above by Sol's grandma encompasses the essence of this show. There were so many resets, changing plots, actions and whatnot, but Sun Jae's soul retained everything. His emotions were everywhere because his soul had memories but his brain didn't. My heart felt too much for him and Im Sol. They met many times and started their story together again and again only to end up with that fate. Push and pull to alter the fate in vain. Seeing Im Sol alone hurt my heart, but seeing Sun Jae falling in love again made it go pity-pat. The show wasn't about why things were happening the way they were happening or what ticked the killer to go after them like that. I believe that the killer was just a plot device to change the time, to show us the love Sun Jae and Im Sol had for each other across time and space. They were the centre of the story. One of the best romances in Dramaland.
Comedy in this one is gold, second-hand embarrassments that I felt for them and with them lol. The other characters supported the plot well. In Hyuk's reactions were everything. And I can only accept the love triangle like in this one. SML, you deserve all the happiness too. Acting is 10/10. PERFECT!
The music in this one is again top-tier, been listening on loop, obsessed. I mourned the loss of Sonaki too. I can name at least five songs I am obsessed with rn. Combining QOT and LR music albums, ig we are in the golden era of kdrama music.
The ending of this show had me giggling throughout, finally after all that angst ( I loved that too). Cried too many times and laughed in equal measure as well. All worth it. Deserving of all the hype.

A unique time travel romantic comedy drama
It honestly started off well, exciting, humourous, nail biting and everything. The actors acted really well, the chemistry between the leads was amazing.
What I like about this drama-
* it hit every emotion really well
* It was soonworthy
* It was REALLY humorous
* The storyline was unique from other dramas
*It made you wait for every episode with excitement
* It was rlly good, the chemistry and everything
* It made you awww at every scene
*And binge worthy
What I didn't like -
* It was good and all but you never really got to know why kim young soo targeted im sol, why did he kill sun jae that day,kim young soo didn't hv any dialogues, the confusion wasn't cleared, they just said he's a psycho killer, no proper explanation.
* The 13 and 14 and 15 episodes were just meh, because honestly you wouldn't not want hear that 1 to 12 episodes were just a lie, the bond between all of the characters was erased, the characters had no character development, characters were just pointless it felt like they were written to fill the void.
* Tbh bruh who kills just because he's a psycho, and I'm sol should hv shouted things from the future to stop the time when I in trouble.
But yet overall this HIT the spot for me in summer vacation

A fun watch, but not a romcom
This was a great drama, but it was not a romcom. Yes, they most certaintly wanted us to have fun watching, and I did. There were a ton of laugh out loud moments, but this drama had a serious tone and pacing problem. The quick cuts from comedy to tragedy got dizzying and by the end I was just skipping the silly bits so I could get back to the main plot. And the main plot is rewlly convoluted on its own, I’ve been watching dramas since 2014 and I couldn't guess where it was going because it seemingly went in nonsensical directions just to try and elongate the episodes and keep it fresh. Again, I liked this drama but it could have been 4 episodes shorter. The male lead was wonderful though, he was everything the story needed him to be at any given time, and he had no issues with his sweet and cute scenes. It was just annoying how much he didn't want to show the female lead how much he loved her, again this set the plot back by a lot. This story is totally male lead falls first and hard, but it's not really an older woman/younger male tag, which is where I found this. There's time travel involved but when she's in the past they are the same age in reality. And that brings me to the female lead, I did like her, but not as much as the male lead. She was very passionate but didn't consider the male lead's feelings as much as she should have, causing them years of heartbreak and loneliness. And also, let's be clear that these two look their age. There's nothing wrong with that but all the characters looked like they were in their late 20s to mid 30s and it was not believable seeing them dressed up as high schoolers and then as college freshman.Overall I really did like this drama and if there had been a bit more editing and awareness of tone shifts, this would have been a 10. Sadly, I'll give it a 9 instead.

Rewatch every single episode
With other dramas it's often like when you've finished one you think it was great but I don't know if I'll watch it again because it would be boring - and with lovely runner it's quite the opposite after each episode you want to go back to the beginning and actually knowing all that we know today you look at the first episodes differently - feelings are stronger because you know that behind every song, phone, gesture there's some story...Was this review helpful to you?
You need to have a really low standards or be a 13 years old girl to like it.
I honestly tried to finish it, but I couldn't: every 15min something so stupid or cringe happened that I closed my laptop. It didn't evoke emotions which I usually feel when watching romance genre - everything seemed so unnatural and far-fetched that it was hard to sympathize with the main characters.FL is annoying and extremely stupid. She makes illogical things all the time and continues sending contradicting signals to ML.
ML is confused by this and cannot pull his shit together to tell her what he feels towards FL.
I gave it a score 1.0 just to counterbalance tons of schoolgirls (the target audience of this show) who gave it 10 in order to save you from wasting time. Otherwise it is a solid 5.0! There are so many better shows than this...

cute show that manages to stick the landing
Lovely Runner was such a joy to watch, especially in the era of kdramas getting dark and gritty or just plain silly/cheesy. I had such a fun time and was so happy that this drama managed to stick the landing (something that seems to be rare these days). I was excited every week to watch the new episodes and honestly, while it did hit a little bit of a lull for me in the middle, it was still really good.I will say that my only beef is that I wanted Sun Jae to still be part of Eclipse :(
Anyway, what a cute show.

personally i think its worth the watch
i am SO shocked at all the reviews on this, this is definitely a favourite of mine, it was the right amount “cringey” i loved everyone relationship/ friendships with each other, its a mix of humour and romance has the perfect balance between them. A big shoutout to Kim Hye-yoon she really stood out to me with her acting in this, she played her part amazingly!! I feel like some people may find it repetitive, I’ll admit yes it was but that’s basically the whole storyline/ point of the show but in my opinion every time it was repeated it was so so different from the last and filled with more and more surprises. I really liked the contrast between them in high school to them being adults, also i loved Im sol and Tae seong’s friendship so much like he was always there for her bless. I felt way too many emotions watching this, anger, happiness and sadness you will go through it all haha. Was this review helpful to you?
