It was cute, moving and funny. Starting with a current situation to then go back to where the story started was nice, finishing the episode wondering some other new things as well.

Episode 1 starts strong with the FL dressed to the nines, climbing those majestic castle stairs to meet a Japanese guy… only for the cameras to sweep in and reveal she’s on a show and he’s her co-star. Plot twist: neither of them speaks the other’s language, so they need a translator — enter our ML.
We’re at the finale, and the co-star suddenly confesses his love to the FL. The ML goes speechless (same), but after some prompting, he translates it anyway… and then we flash back to how the FL and ML first met.
Following a breakup, the FL travels all the way to Japan to confront her ex — only to find him with a very pregnant woman. Brutal. The ML becomes her impromptu interpreter, and it’s hilarious and endearing at the same time. It also reveals a lot about the FL: she’s painfully alone, desperate for love, convinced she’d found it… and then it’s ripped away. Still, she’s a tough cookie.
In a surprisingly cute turn, the two of them end up spending the day together, and the ML starts to open up. We learn he has his own painful love story too — details are still vague, but we do know the woman he likes is on the island, and the FL urges him to go find her.
The only hiccup for me was the editing. One minute we’re in emotional rom-com territory, the next the FL is dressed strangely and there’s a zombie… which turns out to be a film set, but the transition is jarring. Then she falls during filming and wakes up six months later from a coma… and somehow the whole world loves her now. Whiplash, but okay!
Final thought: that photo she took of the ML’s silhouette and posted to her social account? I have a feeling that’s going to come back and cause him trouble.

This episode standalone would make a pretty great movie. Picturesque location but the two leads are tormented by their past love. They don't belong to the place but they both have their sad stories belonging the place - her secret and his, becoming their secret. Painful secret that they both understand each other very well. We learn Hojin is our lead with impeccable language skills, and seems to be quite a pedantic himself (asking to refill Korean pamphlets for tourists and correcting his clients goofups) and also seems to be very kind and caring. Muhee on the other hand seems like the complete opposite with a chaotic energy but it is revealed she only was there seeking answers and wanted some kind of closure. Set out to set things right she learns things that her story wasn't what she thought it was but only to be rescued by Hojin and save her from further drowning in her sorrow.Keeping this review spoiler free, this opening episode has beautiful cinematography, character study and is truly a romantic comedy at heart.Refreshing, fast and quite rich first episode knocks it out of the park. If you have liked 'Before/After Sunset', 'The Holiday' and even the latest 'Heated Rivalry' the storytelling makes you feel nice and warm.
