My first cdrama for 2026 and its a 10000000000000000/10 for me ??

#ShineOnMe goes beyond the typical slow-burn drama. Their love story is incredibly special to me because I have always been drawn to calm, gentle, steady, and unwavering type of love. The kind of drama you can return to when the world feels too heavy, like the warmest blanket in the coldest winter. Its a story that gently reminds you to believe in love again, one that gives you the courage to stand up once more, not just for love but also for your dreams.

Xiguang and Yusen’s story is built on mutual respect, patience, endless support, and sincere love. There are no demands and nothing is rushed, just something that quietly grows over time. The kind of love that softly shines. This drama may be simple, but it has left the deepest impact on my life.

The past two weeks felt like a fever dream—it went by so fast, yet every moment stayed with me. And now, as this chapter gently comes to a close, their story remains deeply embedded in my heart. Thank you for making #ShineOnMe such a beautiful and unforgettable experience. I will always treasure every moment I shared with all of you 🩷🌸

Thank You #SongWeilong & #ZhaoJinmai for being our Lin Yusen and Nie Xiguang 🌳🍉

I will miss you so much my 4951 cp ❤️‍🩹

C-Drama with romance theme that has really good chemistry like

I just want to comment on the wardrobe team's choice of office attire for Nie Xiguang, which I find strange in some parts. Some of the clothes Xiguang wears look too much like "weak women" rather than "competent and strong career women." It's true that in those parts, Xiguang is in love, but her choice of clothing shouldn't be too "childish" 😅. But overall i really like this drama. Especially the chemistry between every actor and actress also with the all storyline really written so well. I think, this drama give me some memories back when I watched "you are my glory (played by Dilraba and Yang Yang). This drama is worth to watch again.

When Hearts Find Their Light

📺 Overview
Shine On Me is a modern Chinese romantic drama. It stars Zhao Jinmai as Nie Xiguang and Song Weilong as Lin Yusen, adapted from the popular Gu Man novel Blazing Sunlight. The story follows Xiguang from university into her early career, where she meets and gradually falls for the mature yet reserved Lin Yusen.

⭐ Strengths
💘 Slow-Burn Romance That Many Viewers Enjoy
I really appreciate how the romance unfolds with patience and subtle emotional beats instead of instant sparks. I love the gentle development between the leads and how realistic their emotional journeys feel.
👩‍❤️‍👨 Leads’ Chemistry
I feel that the chemistry between Zhao Jinmai and Song Weilong is genuine and engaging, especially once the story deepens past the initial episodes. I also find Zhao’s portrayal of Xiguang’s warmth and vulnerability to be one of the standout aspects of the series.
🧠 Mature, “Healthy” Relationship Dynamic
I really appreciate the way the romance unfolds with mutual respect, supportive interactions, and realistic emotional growth, without relying on artificially prolonged conflicts.
👱🏼Character growth across life stages
I like how the story follows the characters from youth into adulthood, showing personal and emotional growth that feels believable.
👥 Relatable themes
I feel that the way the drama handles dreams, regret, timing, and healing is really sensitive, and it resonates with me because I appreciate realism more than melodrama.

⚠️ Criticism & Weaknesses
🫤 Slow Start & Pacing Issues
Personally, I didn’t notice any faults in this drama and enjoyed it thoroughly, but I feel some viewers might find the pacing a bit slow in the earlier episodes.

📌 Who Might Enjoy It
✅ Fans of Gu Man adaptations (e.g., You Are My Glory, Love O2O)
✅ Viewers who like slow-burn, character-driven romances
✅ Those who enjoy grounded relationship development over intense melodrama
📌 Who Might Not
❌ Viewers seeking fast pacing or high drama

🌟 Overall, I loved the drama and would highly recommend it!

Beautiful love story - He is a walking green flag

This was giving warm, charming and mature (misunderstandings between the leads were minimal). No love triangle. Great chemistry.
I love the Nie Xi Guang character, she is ambitious and didnt depend on her parents for money. She wanted to learn the ropes and she loved it and made a name for herself.
Lin Yu Sen came off very softie but when he is working, he certainly plays his boss roles well. He is a walking green forest!!!!
I am so glad Xi Guang let Zhuang Xu go!!! I personally didnt like how he spoke to her and even the words he said. He was a pain to watch and so silly of him to remain single for so long? Like he still cant believe she moved on.
Fast forward to the future, I got my happy ending and yes I say mine, because I am a sucker for those endings LOL - marriage and starting their own family.
I loved it!

A two speed drama that is . . Ok

Oh woe is me. This is my third attempt at writing this review. I normally have a good idea about what to write before I start. In this case, I just can't seem to nail this down. To be fair, this show is not bad. It has its moments. I just sense this disturbance in the Force.

As a whole, the show is watchable and relatively angst lite. The romance took forever to develop though. It also has a lot of business and chaebol style shenanigans which are repetitive, but lack depth.

If I'm honest, the chemistry of our leads is only lukewarm for the longest time. It can test your patience. It finally picks up in the last few eps. A classic case of From Zero to Hero. ;)

I do find it odd that the writer seems to swim against the tide. At one stage, the FL was frantically searching for the ML because she thought he was in an accident. The show cuts to her running towards him in slow-mo as soon as she spots him. In most romance dramas, this would be the cue for a heartfelt embrace and maybe even a kiss to seal the deal. In this case, she drops anchor, pulled up sharply a few feet away. Once she ascertains he is ok, she turns and marches away. What?

This happened several times. The setup is there, yet the payoff is not. Sure, our leads are novice in love, but the whole point is to give in to your feelings. C'est l'amour! This feels stilted and drags out their romantic journey.

As a result, the show pads out the runtime with fillers of all kind. Mostly about developments in the photovoltaics industry and scheming rich families.

While business subplots are nothing new in c-dramas, this feels a little pedestrian. Solar energy generation is already a mass consumer product by the early 2010's. China is a major player. They tried to dress it up, but it is a tough ask.

Then we have the Chinese "chaebols". There are excessive displays of wealth and people behaving badly just because they can. I really don't know how comfortable this sits with the recent Common Prosperity drive. Maybe they are going for historical accuracy . .

On the flip side, our leads do look good together. Their young lovers act is quite cute. Their immediate family are supportive and nice. Shame about their extended family. Most of them are spoil brats or relatives fighting dirty in the name of money and power.

Another annoyance for me is the focus on the SML. The FL has a crush on him in college, but he rejected her at first. He has been conflicted ever since. Just when the FL decide to let go and find true love with the ML, he made his move.

Such trope is a reliable source of angst if handled well. Our writers decided to drag this out. The SML keeps popping up and interrupt the show's qi. I can accept this if the acting is good. Unfortunately, the young actor leaves me cold. He is a walking wet blanket. He looks glum and depressed most of the time. He sucks the life out of most scenes. There is no growth in his character. We don't share his pain. Yet we still suffer.

Speaking of acting abilities, the FL is in her element. It is hardly a breakout role though. On the other hand, the ML is handsome, but lacks depth in his acting. They tried to paint him as a tortured soul. What we got is more like a textbook good guy. He tries.

Maybe it is the whole "sunshine" theme, but many scenes appear to be over exposed and has an yellow/orange cast. Our lead literally glows, night and day. It is a questionable aesthetic choice in my book.

One final thought, the flag waving is a bit egregious. The whole PV industry's growth and Brain-to-Computer interface are jingoistic. Sometimes it felt like I'm watching a tourism promo or being sold shares in some private/government enterprise. I'm sure it will appeal to mainland audience. Maybe less so for international viewers.

The writers delivered the goods in the end. If anything, it was sugar overload. You could bottle the last 6 eps and call it a day. If I ever rewatch this series, it would be those 6 eps.

In the end, this drama is decent. I'm sure they will do well by the normal matrix. It just doesn't quite scratch the itch for me. We are presented with a draggy A-plot with extra fillers. The fan service is sweet, but took forever to materialise. It is a box of chocolates . . just not quite a top shelve one. Peace.

Story review

I’m really enjoying the this drama. What I love most is the male lead’s personality he has such a positive attitude with absolutely no hidden motives. His vibe is calm, sincere, and warm. He’s pursuing the female lead, Nie Xiguang, in the simplest and purest way, without giving mixed signals or expecting anything in return.

The way he flirts softly with her is honestly so refreshing. It’s not aggressive or dramatic just gentle, honest affection. Even after she rejects him in episode 12, he stays emotionally mature and optimistic. That line, “You have to keep your head high and say that you didn’t make the cut,” was so beautiful. It shows how deeply he understands her feelings while also being secure in his own. He continues pursuing her not as a transaction, but simply because his feelings are genuine.

The writing deserves appreciation too. The dialogues feel thoughtful and intentional. Thankfully, this drama avoids the usual clichés we don’t get the typical cold CEO with a poor female lead, or a gangster falling for an innocent girl. Instead, we get grounded, emotionally aware characters.

I’m also really liking Nie Xiguang’s growth. After moving on, she starts allowing herself to enjoy life again traveling to Guangzhou with the male lead, opening up emotionally, and living in the moment. Overall, Shine On Me feels warm, mature, and refreshing, and the male lead’s character is definitely one of the highlights for me.

✨ A Gentle Love Story That Glows Brighter with Every Episode ?

I fell in love with Shine on Me for its emotionally mature romance 💕, natural chemistry 🔥, and beautifully crafted slow‑burn storytelling 🌙. The heartfelt pacing and Lin Yu Sen’s sincerity made every moment feel real and meaningful.
The chemistry between Song Wei Long and Zhao Jin Mai was incredible — deep, steady, and impossible to ignore ✨. The ML’s patience and quiet longing paired perfectly with the FL’s gradual emotional awakening, and their relationship with his mothers added so much warmth 💐.
While the slow pacing may not suit everyone, I found the drama warm, comforting, and deeply romantic. The cinematography is gorgeous 🎥, the OST is dreamy 🎶, and the emotions linger long after the final episode.

Overall, Shine on Me is a satisfying, heartwarming watch that reminds us why pure, positive romance will always have a special place in our hearts ❤️.

Nothing Happens, Vibes Occur - Sponsored by Photovoltaic Panels.

Nothing happens, but it’s still somehow interesting. That's a long story short of how I would describe the drama. It just flows in an even pace filled with either fun, lovely and heartwarming interactions, or rage inducing ones. But the plot is barely there. It’s mostly about characters and their interactions - vibes fueled. And the characters were not even that outstanding.

Starting with our male lead - Lin Yu Sen who was so perfect it was kind of boring. I am extremely grateful for that initial light pity party he was having and a tiny bit of mischievousness from him towards the female lead. That said, I don’t really have issues with him having less presence than the female lead. For me no matter the drama, one of the leads will always be more of the focus. I just wish he was a bit more than a supportive boyfriend. Even his own personal struggles seemed more like a way of showing how inspiring and encouraging Xi Guang is. Uplift women in dramas, yes. But you don't have to leave men behind.

Nie Xi Guang on the other hand was actually a well written female lead with solid, but realistic character development focused on finding her own path, drive and goal in life. She slowly learned how to stand up for herself and speak honestly about her grievances - she was never a doormat, but she for sure gained more sass with every episode. As for the flaws - questionable taste in men at least in her younger age. I do think she was a bit too old for this level of fascination over the second male lead and how long it took her to move on. Especially taking into consideration how he treated her.

And here comes the cherry on top of the dama: Zhuang Xu, so annoying he became my favorite character. Yes, I hated him to the core, but at the same time when they kept him hidden for a few episodes I missed him. Mr. Audacity Wood stole the show for me and both the external conflict/misunderstanding and his internal issues were the most interesting aspects of the plot. Honestly though - where did the audacity come from? So little self confidence, so much self-doubt and victim complex, yet the audacity unmatched by the rich cold CEOs.

For more supporting characters we had the initial friend group which was rather basic. We did manage to get one amazing scene showing that at least one of the girls was truly Xi Guang’s friend, but overall they were there to fill the shots.

Work colleagues were better personality wise, but even they slowly vanished and lost their individuality. This drama never had friendship in its focus and that’s slightly sad. Out of all the relationships outside of the leads, one that was the best developed and shined the brightest was Xi Guang and her little brother.

We also got the standard family drama. On Yu Sen side the “competent male lead versus incompetent rest of the family” shenanigans. Glad it never developed into anything more than a side story that made a comeback every few episodes for a few minutes. On the female lead side we had the dad with too much unfounded pride and his evil (and also incompetent) girlfriend with a daughter (who was also incompetent - as you can see everyone, but the leads and the people they liked were incompetent).

How was the romance? Nice. And take it as a compliment. There was no ridiculous drama and angst between the main couple and even the initial misunderstanding did not lead to outrageous twists. Their whole relationship was based on both great communication and the underlying conflict based on misconception/misunderstanding - and it did make sense, somehow. There weren’t any massive ups and downs - this is for sure not a rollercoaster of emotions. More like a nice walk along the riverside accompanied by rustling trees, singing birds and the newest, most advanced, best in the world, innovative, groundbreaking and saving global climate Chinese photovoltaic panels.

So yeah, let’s all agree this drama is as much of a cute romance as it is an ad for a specific branch of the Chinese market (and just a tiny reminder that China also excels in neuroscience, in case anyone forgot). Maybe 20% of the business related scenes actually had an impact on the leads and their development in terms of their character and career, the rest was just long ass explanation how amazing PVs are, how China is going to be pioneers in that market, how it all works and what kind of profits and benefits it has. An ad. I skipped all these scenes and I’m not even sorry.

As for the production, I am convinced from episode 23 they changed people involved in filming and editing the show - the improvement of the quality was so obvious. The first 22 episodes were rather empty, simple and lacked depth and definition. From episode 23 be it use of light, framing scenes with forefront blurred objects, colors - everything was so much better, richer.

For the acting I mostly want to talk about Zhao Jin Mai since she stood out amongst her co-stars. The way you could feel everything Xi Guang was feeling. My favorite scenes were for sure the few confrontations she had with people in her life and how she firmly stood her ground, simply because there were so many emotions behind what she was saying. These were not just a “girlboss” badass moment. You could also feel all the disappointment, frustration, resignation, sadness and frustration. These scenes on one had made you proud of her, but also sad for how long she was keeping it all in not allowing herself to truly express her feelings.

Song Wei Long was fine. I guess that's a compliment. I feel like his acting is really reactionary - he acts on cue without being immersed in the character he is portraying.

Then we have Lai Wei Ming. I have no idea why he was so all over the place, since I know he can do better, but I lived for the sick pathetic vibe he gave me. It just added to the frustration and rage I was feeling when he was on screen. No idea what kind of tips the director gave him, but it did not work, but at the same time somehow worked. And that styling - dude looks like he was one foot in the grave the whole show. They did him dirty.

Overall, I feel like this is a drama you can enjoy in two cases: you truly adore the “nothing much happening, all we have are vibes, but these are good vibes” dramas, or when you are in a specific mood for a slow pace sweet romance with just enough plot to make you stay till the end.

THE RIGHT WAY TO ADAPT NOVEL

As a long time Gu Man's fan, I absolutely love how all her work being adapted in drama from dog blood Hei Mosheng; promote Lou Yunxi when he was just a new actor (played the youngerself of the ML) and Come eat Shan-Shan into Slightly Smile is Alluring aka Love o2o and You Are My Glory which heighted Yang Yang prestige as Male actor. The drama resolved an un-answerd hole from novel like the trash dad and his xiaosan mother-daughter duo etc.

When I heard they want to adapted this to novel my first pick for ML are Wu Lei, Gong Jun, Wang Xingyue, Chen Xingxu, Cheng Lei and lastly Liu Yuning laoshi. The reason because their towering height and piercing cold stare like the novel describe. The final they pick Song Weilong which I'm kind a dissappointed knowing Weilong weakness is in cultivated acting but he shocked me. He is improved 80%. The first 5 eps, it hard to watch because he is acting like "I'm angry, cool, cold, awesome" but the past 5 eps, I enjoyed it. For FL I dont have complaint to MaiMai acting, she's awesome and her team use great outfit and makeup style. I dont recognize actor that played as an annoying Zhang Xu but my friend said that he played as Pei Shiheng in Fangs of Fortune. He picked an intersting character, he is boold young man.
The actor played Jiang Rui is great, he played a younger part of ML in Joy of Life: Fan Xian. Han Haolin need more project to exlore his actimg range. Meanwhile Zhang Xu's brother Zhang Fei played Gu Zicheng, I feel something wrong with him. His acting are great but most of his project character has the same trait; little manipulative. If they casted Lin Ziye that will be a little reunion of Fangs of Fortune.

I cant wait how they potray Xiguang roasted Sheng's family and screw them over because of Ye Rong conduit. Plus how Ye Rong and Zhang Xu's potrayal when Xiguang tipped Ye Rong using email that Yusen's cousin which YeRong boss just playing her.

And again the light are too bright and the fake car scene, it hurt my eyes. The ost are awesome because they hired Liu laoshi Liu Yuxin. Hope the remaining eps keep us on our toes because the comeback of Xiguang's mom as an awesome and overbearing president scene that us the novel reader want to see. She beat that stupid ex-husband company into losing money from projects and took back the house/villa the Xiaosan duo reside. Xiguang co-worker change from a clumsy (she keep being teased for making Xiguang fall because forget bring keys) into a perfect assistant to Xiguang's mom.

Update: Dang!!!!! They downplay Xieguang and CEO Jiang retaliation to Sheng family especially Sheng Bokai's family and Xieguang's father and that no title mistress.

So healthy and so beautiful!

I stopped writing reviews on this site, but this show has made me go back to the old days. It's made me want to speak with people about just how amazing it is and also recommend it to people. And all that just because of how refreshing, amazing and path-breaking it is. No toxic relationships, no unnecessary drama, an understanding couple with no ill-will and supportive parents. Add all of that to great chemistry, beautiful music and sassy humour, you've got yourself a gem of a drama. :)

I've liked the acting of all people, but I must say Jin Mai looks so freaking pretty in this one. Like, I've always found her to be pretty, but it was just another level in this drama with that amazing wardrobe! I love it!

My best part was the relationship between our leads, which is just so positive and supportive. Actual goals! Another thing to love is the whole subtle notion of 'women empowerment' going on here. It's not in your face, but it's also hard to miss, and I'm all for it!

Overall, this is a great watch, and I would 100% recommend this to anyone who asks!

Shine on Me is Shining!

Shine on Me is a must watch.

Perfect casting – it’s like Lin Yusen and Nie Xiguang were written for Song Weilong and Zhao Jinmai. Their chemistry is top tier making it feel like their meeting is a destiny and their love journey is one of mutual growth. They both didn’t just fall for each other – they chose each other. The romantic scenes are textbook-level perfection yet feels so relatable.

My love for Song Weilong grew tremendously after watching this. His portrayal of Lin Yusen is incredibly charming and sweet (not afraid to voice out his feelings, daring yet with gentle approach, longing but patiently wait – every decisions are guided by respect).

Overall, a warm and satisfying watch with lovely romance full of trust without unnecessary misunderstandings because both ML and FL choose to communicate keeping each other in the loop before making any decision.

An Evergreen Love: Why This Drama Quietly Stole My Heart

I honestly did not know how to start this review, because I am completely obsessed with this drama. This is the best idol drama I have watched in recent times. I usually find many flaws when watching dramas—plot holes, forced conflicts, illogical character choices—but this time, I could not even bring myself to look for mistakes. From the very first episode to the latest one, the story kept me fully hooked. I genuinely feel lucky that I ended 2025 with this drama and started 2026 with it. It feels like a gift.

Before writing this review, I spent a long time thinking about why this drama affected me so deeply. And eventually, I found my answers.

The Male Lead: When Casting Becomes Perfection 🌿

The biggest reason for my obsession is the male lead. Dramas are full of handsome actors, but what truly matters is how well an actor’s appearance, aura, and inner temperament match the character. Here, SWL does not just play Lin Yusen—he becomes him.

Lin Yusen is portrayed as the ideal man many women admire: intelligent, wealthy, accomplished, and emotionally grounded. An elite neurosurgeon with a PhD before the age of 27—this alone already makes the character extraordinary. As a sapiosexual, this aspect absolutely drives me crazy. But beyond his résumé, what captivates me is his personality: his restraint, his decency, his calm confidence, and his precise, gentle way of speaking. He is an evergreen rainforest—quietly rich, deeply layered, and endlessly comforting.

SWL’s acting makes all of this believable. His expressions are controlled but expressive, his masculinity is composed rather than aggressive, and his emotional delivery is subtle yet powerful. Lin Yusen’s pursuit of love is respectful, patient, and sincere—and SWL matches these traits so perfectly that I truly have no words.

Equal Social Standing: A Relationship That Feels Real 💼🤍

One thing I deeply appreciated is that both main characters come from the same social strata. This is rare in idol dramas, which often rely on exaggerated class gaps. Personally, I prefer relationships where both leads understand each other’s world naturally.

Because Lin Yusen and Xi Guang share similar educational backgrounds, values, and social experiences, they do not need to “adjust” themselves to fit each other. Their love grows in a space of mutual understanding, comfort, and emotional safety. This equality allows the romance to feel mature, grounded, and genuinely sweet, rather than dramatic for the sake of drama.

Healthy Love and Professional Boundaries 🌱

Another standout strength of this drama is how it handles workplace dynamics and romance. Lin Yusen is technically Xi Guang’s superior, yet neither of them confuses professional responsibilities with personal feelings. Their relationship never infringes on individual freedom, ambition, or integrity.

This portrayal of a high-quality, healthy romantic relationship is refreshing. It shows love that supports growth rather than limits it. Watching two competent adults fall in love without sacrificing professionalism felt both comforting and inspiring.

Xi Guang’s Emotional Journey: Pain, Growth, and Healing 💔➡️💖

Xi Guang’s emotional arc resonated with me on a deeply personal level. Her feelings and confession toward the second male lead reminded me of a situation I experienced about a year ago. That familiarity made her pain feel painfully real.

I loved how the drama portrayed her transformation. She begins as a lively, confident, warm, and friendly girl. After rejection, she becomes quieter and more reserved—not exaggeratedly broken, but realistically wounded. And most importantly, she does not stay there. She heals, regains herself, and learns how to love again.

Her acceptance of Lin Yusen’s love feels earned, gentle, and sincere. Watching her grow back into herself—and then choose happiness—was incredibly satisfying.

Slow-Burning Romance Done Right 🔥

I personally love slow-burn romances, especially those with fewer intimate scenes and more emotional buildup. This drama fits my taste perfectly.

Although Lin Yusen falls in love early, the relationship develops gradually. When he confesses, Xi Guang is still emotionally confused. Instead of pushing her, he waits. He respects her pace. He gives her space while staying emotionally present.

That patience—the quiet companionship, the friendly collaboration, the unspoken care—is what makes their romance so beautiful. This is not loud love. It is steady, warm, and deeply reassuring.

Writing Quality: Thoughtful, Layered, and Consistent ✍️

The story writing deserves serious praise. What initially feels “slow” later reveals itself as careful groundwork. The script is full of long-term foreshadowing, emotional logic, and consistent character behavior.

Many narrative threads are planted early and only fully pay off much later, which makes rewatching incredibly rewarding. Lin Yusen’s behavior, which may seem cold or confusing at first, becomes completely understandable once the truth is revealed. This level of narrative discipline is rare in idol dramas.

The drama does not rush emotions or rely on cheap misunderstandings. Instead, it trusts the audience to observe, feel, and connect.

Acting and Production Quality 🎬

The acting across the board is restrained and natural, especially from the leads. SWL’s performance stands out for its emotional precision, while the female lead delivers vulnerability and strength with equal grace.

Production-wise, the drama is clean, polished, and visually pleasing. The workplace settings feel realistic, the pacing is intentional, and the overall tone remains consistent. Nothing feels sloppy or careless.

And surprisingly, the OSTs left a strong impression on me. I usually do not pay much attention to soundtracks, but here, the music blended beautifully with the emotional atmosphere and elevated key scenes.

The Second Male Lead: My Only Complaint 😤

If I had to name the worst part of the drama, it would be the second male lead. He was, without exaggeration, the most annoying SML of 2025. Emotionally immature, unable to communicate properly, and constantly hurting the person he claimed to love—he represents everything that fails in relationships.

While his storyline has its own bittersweet charm, I firmly believe that someone who cannot speak honestly or take responsibility will never truly “get the girl.”

Final Thoughts: Why I Love This Drama 🌞

This drama is not just about romance—it is about growth, respect, patience, and emotionally mature love. It is slow, but never empty. Sweet, but never shallow. Idealized, yet grounded in reality.

I truly, genuinely love this drama. And if you are willing to watch patiently, I believe you might understand why it touched me so deeply.

Strongly recommended. 💛
