All Hype, No Heart: A Disappointing Watch
Love In The Clouds is the definition of “It’s good waiting for it to be great.” I was originally intrigued because many people were hyping this up to the sky. You know that feeling you get when you’re watching such a great drama? Well, unfortunately, this drama didn’t give it to me.My main problem was the continuous lying of both the ML and FL, and there is only so many misunderstandings that a couple can go through before it becomes utterly ridiculous. This was a main portion of the drama, and most of the issues could have been solved by a simple conversation.
The plot is also not very propelling and has major flaws, and I reached a point where I just wanted this drama to end already. The screenwriting is very poor, and at times it’s confusing to understand why things occur or why characters acted the way they did. It seems very sudden and rushed.
The actors’ performance was great, however I strongly do not recommend this drama. Love in the Clouds does not really bring anything to the c-drama scene, and your time is better used watching something else.

One of the most beautiful couple in Xian Xia
Story:The story is a typical xianxia idol drama, all of the inhabitant in these six realm wants to be a warrior, to be the strongest then can be the hero of their own realm. But watching this drama after a drought of outstanding xianxia drama is really a fresh cool water. The plot is a little dragging for the first half, it didn't get me hooked until episode 18-20. And the emotional scenes also mostly happened after 20 episodes. However, I adore xianxia drama with sweet passionate romance and this one is not disappointed at all
Acting:
Actually I don't think all the actors acting are excellent, lack of deep emotion. But I can feel that the two main lead are all out in creating their chemistry, hence I can feel their intimacy is pure and passionate. Somehow, I like how Lu Yuxiao delivered her dialogue, she has a unique tone and dialect, like murmuring, but it makes her more cute and adorable. And in this drama, I found out Neo Hou's cry scene is beautifully touching. On the other hand, the side characters are not that impressive. The villains are not emotionally dark and the friends of the MLs also lack of sympathetic feelings despite the 'animal companion' characters.
Production:
I like it, a lot. The costumes and the hair styles are particularly different with other xianxia I've watched. It is very graceful style yet give some seductive hints. And the soundtracks are all suitable for the vibe, I specially notice the one sung by Neo Hou. Although the CGI is not remarkable, I still enjoy the scenery
Overall:
Like I said on the top, this drama is very refreshing, like an oasis for my xianxia drama craving. The romance is unforgettable, and this is the kind of xianxia that make me want to rewatch it again and again.

A visually stunning production with some ups and downs
My experience with this series was positive, albeit with reservations. While I enjoyed it and found it to be a quality production, I must admit that it didn't completely hook me as I had hoped. The script avoids repetition, which is a great success, but for some reason, the plot development failed to get me deeply interested in the central conflict.
The strongest points are undoubtedly the art direction and casting. Hou MingHao dazzles with his presence, demonstrating striking charisma and beauty, and the chemistry with the lead actress Lu YuXiao is palpable and very believable. The costume design is exceptional, adding a layer of beauty to each scene. On the other hand, the CGI and visual effects are the weakest link. While they are acceptable and do not ruin the immersion, their quality is not on par with the rest of the production.
A highly recommended series for its aesthetic beauty and performances, despite a plot that is not entirely absorbing.

Amazing chemistry with a fast paced storyline
The couple's chemistry is one of the best i've seen in drama land in 10+ years. Their emotional cues and attraction for each other is on point. As someone that has read the novel, the drama did change significantly. However, I'm enjoying it so much more!HMH does not disappoint with his acting and his careful building of his character. He not only has an in depth understanding of his character, but also his FL costar. His explanation of why Ming Yi did not tell him the truth was reasonable and he saw it from her point of view.
The female lead is newer to me, but I loved her role in MJTY. She definitely outshined the FL there. I love her interactions with JBZ even after the misunderstanding. She put him first in all of her actions and would always protect him. Their love for each other is reciprocated with a bit of mischief.
Rewatch value = 10+

Unsure about this one
When I first started Love in the Clouds, I had very conflicting emotions. It actually took me almost two weeks to finish the first ten episodes — and that says a lot for a drama. I kept asking myself: do I really like where this story is going, or am I just here for the cast? While watching, I started making a list, and here are a few things I really loved about it:
1. The Cast:
Two of my favorite rising stars absolutely shine in their roles — cunning, playful, and heroic at heart. Their chemistry and performance are what kept me invested even when the story felt uneven.
2. The Cinematography and Colors:
Absolutely stunning! The visuals reminded me of past projects the leads have done, like Fangs of Fortune, Love in Pavilion, and My Journey to You. Every scene felt lush and painterly, a real feast for the eyes.
3. The Side Characters:
One of my unexpected favorites was “Twenty-Seven.” His loyalty and sacrifice genuinely moved me — I didn’t expect to cry as hard as I did when he made that decision to save her.
That said, I had a hard time grasping the story at the beginning. My sister kept asking if the first few episodes were good, and honestly, I couldn’t even explain what was happening besides the female lead trying to find out who poisoned her. I knew there was more to it, but the plot took too long to unfold. Because of that slow start, it took me a while to stay engaged.
Later, I found out that the production crew and directors kept changing throughout filming — which suddenly made everything make sense. No wonder the story felt directionless at first! It seemed like they couldn’t decide what kind of characters they wanted the leads to play, and that inconsistency definitely showed onscreen. For a while, it felt more like visual eye candy than a cohesive story, and the leads were the main reason I kept watching.
Once the storyline and character arcs finally settled, it became much easier to follow and enjoy. However, toward the end, I found myself skipping parts again. There were simply too many villains — all starting to blur together with the same motives — and I really just wanted to focus on the main couple’s journey. It felt like the drama dragged on longer than necessary, piling on extra conflicts that didn’t add much depth.
In the end, I’d give Love in the Clouds a 7/10. The potential was there, but the production struggles really held it back. It felt like the team wasn’t quite sure which direction to take or they wanted to add just way too much details. For example , the suddenly revealing identities, confronting old enemies, fighting Situ Ling’s villain arc, and trying to tie up every loose end all at once.
Still, despite its flaws, Love in the Clouds had enough heart, beauty, and charm to make it worth finishing. I love the details they give to each female character. If you can push through the confusing start and a few pacing issues, you’ll find a story that — while imperfect — has moments of genuine emotion and visual splendor.
Final Thoughts:
If you love the leads or enjoy visually stunning period dramas, give it a try — just don’t expect a flawless storyline. It might take some time but it will eventually finds its footing - you’ll need a bit of patience to get there.

Extraordinary Lies Nearly Clouds the Love in this Political Fantasy
This series started off so good and continued on to greatness, for the first 25 episodes. The mysteries within the plot and road to romance for the leads was highly entertaining. That is until it reached the final stretch and almost completely lost momentum. First off, the writers threw every trope and obstacle of angst you could think of at the leads. Deep cutting lies, betrayal, being from rival realms who hate each other, terminal illnesses, sins of the mothers, abandonment, endless missed cues and communications and so forth and so on. Then the SML was injected into all of this with his unreasonably psychotic behavior, resulting in it all nearly being too much.It is tiring to watch the trope of the interloper who becomes obsessed with one of the leads because they were nice to them once eons ago, and when they see this person has no romantic interest in them , instead of moving on, they double down and are determined to force the one with whom they are obsessed to love them. It is illogical and frustrating to watch.
By the time the show reached the last 4-5 episodes it had become exhausting due to everything but the kitchen sink having been thrown at our leads. But I hung in there because the plot remained highly entertaining, despite its faults. And Neo Hou and Lu Yuxiao, and to a much lesser degree, the supporting actors giving the show so much life. They were all so good in their roles and really jelled making them believable friends, lovers and foes. Neo Hou (Ji Bo Zai) and Lu Yuxiao (Ming Yi) had lovely chemistry that became more palpable as the show progressed. They could be funny, flirty and fire together. With their kisses and intimacy being some of the best seen in recent C-dramas.
Additionally, the SFL, the Princess, was a wonderful character. I feared she would become obsessed with winning the ML’s love but was pleasantly surprised when she turned out to be smart, strategic and very supportive of our leads. Overall, despite nearly going off the rails, this was a very good series. The story did , in the end, recover, due to some unexpectedly good twists and the HEA afforded the leads. Binging the last few episodes will be tough, due to all the angst and drama, but once the outcome is known, it is a series that will be more enjoyable upon rewatch.

The sluttiest drama of the year
What an amazing drama. I was honestly waiting for 2025 to hit with a 10/10 drama and Love in the Clouds really surpised me. This is a drama where you can absolutely tell that the actors and team had great respect and love for the project. They did a phenominal job.Story
The story starts with our FL MY/MX fighting in a tournament against our ML JBZ. MY definitely has a complex about winning, due to her sect's demands and her parent's love being conditioned on her winning. Unfortunately, she loses to JBZ, but in her loss realizes she's been poisoned and her spiritual veins are shattering - if she does not fix it within the year, she will die, and if she continues using her powers, she will die faster. She suspects JBZ of poisoning her to win in the tournament, as it is widely known he has been poisoned by that poison (Heavenly Poison) and that he likely has the antidote to the poison.
However, this antidote is one everyone is looking for because it has the ability to give anyone power or boost their cultivation. JBZ was using it to lure people in.
MY, who previously was believed to be MX but was in fact always a girl and had only been disguised as a boy her whole life by her mother, approaches and seduces JBZ to get close to him to get the antidote. Throughout this process, the two fall in love with each other, and learn who really poisoned MY and an entire plot to destroy the realm that they must prevent.
They navigate the lies and betrayal in their relationship, and heart breaking truths being revealed to separate them.
Concurrent to their love story, is the beautiful love story between the crown princess and a physician who was tasked with murdering her father, and the story of a bullied fan's unrequited love.
Acting/Cast
The cast did an amazing job with their characters, understanding and appreciating them and giving each the depth they deserve. HMH is an actor I've liked for a while, since BTTB and IAN, and LYX is one of my favorites in MJTY so I was really happy she got a lead role and did such an amazing performance. The two had beautiful chemistry, playing at being slutty, coy, fierce, and vulnerable.
The director was switched out during the project and rather than that being a crushing blow to the show, it actually saved it, and the director clearly understood her job. I couldn't ask for better. She knew exactly how to serve and what to serve (HMH looks so slutty in this drama, I love it, and it is impossible to take your eyes of LYX).
Music/Cinematography/CGI
There were these hilarious moments where the viewer's would enter a different POV (the physician's) and it would just turn into a completely different genre. It was hilarious the way we would just shift to a complete romance with lighting and music heightened by 100.
Otherwise, it was visually stunning, the music was beautiful (HMH has a great OST), and the CGI was more than acceptable.
Overall
There are definitely a lot of corny moments in this show, but they didn't detract from how great the performances were. Highly highly recommended. 10/10 and will rewatch.

unbelievably boring flimsy story
Before anyone just handwaives away my review as "being a hater," let me say that I had been looking forward to this for SIX ENTIRE MONTHS before it started airing bc I loved Hou Minghao so much in Fangs of Fortune. My friends who are also into CDramas could not get me to shut the f*ck up about how excited I was for this for like two whole months before episodes started dropping. And I still loathed this show. Now, having just come off of Fated Hearts when I started watching this, the deck was stacked against me bc the meticulous writing for that just makes almost everything else pale in comparison, but I'm confident I still would have had a terrible time with this even if I hadn't been coming down from the high that was Fated Hearts. The whole entire set up of this show is the Ji Bozai/"Ming Yi" (Ming Xian, how I'll be referring to her for basically the rest of this review) romance. Yes, there is a bit of plot surrounding that with the sect politics, but the undeniable center of this show is the Ji Bozai/Ming Xian romance. Ming Xian, having had to lie about her identity her whole life and to literally everyone — seemingly the only people who know the truth are her mother and her animal companion, Twenty-Seven — holds her cards close to her chest and is reluctant to be honest with anyone. It's be nice if the show dug deeper into this fact and what it means for Ming Xian as a person, but sure, fine, this makes sense given how on guard she has to be around literally everyone all the time. So she has this facade of playing the damsel in distress to get Ji Bozai's attention and win his trust. Now, it'd be one thing if Ji Bozai thought this was her true personality, but it becomes clear pretty quickly that he's aware that this is just an act so...... what the hell is he falling for? Literally all he knows about her for the first third of the show is that she's playing him and putting on this facade. Like he knows absolutely nothing about *her* and he KNOWS he is not seeing the real her.... So, again, what is he falling for? And then, again, I don't inherently have a problem with Ming Xian lying to Ji Bozai, because — while the show should be connecting these dots and not me doing it myself — it makes sense given how she grew up in Yaoguang Mountain that she would have difficulty with being honest, but once she can no longer keep up this act bc she accidentally revealed that she has spiritual veins and Twenty-Seven — known to everyone as Ming Xian's animal companion — is accompanying her (meaning she has ties to Ming Xian and Yaoguang Mountain), she then is just incessantly lying to Ji Bozai. And this leads to one of my biggest problems with the romance: Ming Xian discovers Ji Bozai's goal of avenging his shifu in like... I want to say episode 7? So she has basically completely figured him out in the first 20% of the story — she knows his background, she knows his motivations, she knows what he wants to achieve. Ji Bozai doesn't know anything about Ming Xian until he learns her real identity in the last third of the show. Why should I be rooting for this romance when it is so uneven? (Also Ji Bozai just. sucks. lmao. After seeing Twenty-Seven appear in his home, he tells Ming Xian "Right now I'd rather kill you than Mu Qibai" as if he also hadn't been lying to her and using her for his plans?????????? And then after he starts to suspect that "Ming Yi" is Ming Xian he does all these f*cking tests to prove it instead of just asking her directly. Like he straight up does a test that WOULD kill her if he had been wrong. And I'm supposed to not want to throttle him for that??????????)
And to make matters worse on that front of Ming Xian's identity being hidden, one of the main antagonists literally comes to Ji Bozai's home WITH PROOF that "Ming Yi" is Ming Xian and it takes more than a dozen episodes after this for Ji Bozai to figure out that she is actually Ming Xian??????????? Like this is just embarrassingly bad writing. He had proof!!!!!! And everyone was like "No, that's ridiculous, you have to be fabricating it" ???????????? And on the thread of bad writing!!! So said antagonist who tried to reveal Ming Xian's identity has been raising an army of something called netherbeasts and Ji Bozai uses his cultivation to contain them and so the villain then makes it look like Ji Bozai was raising the army of netherbeasts and then an episode later Ji Bozai does an uno reverse of that to prove his innocence but nope! Can't let the villain be removed from the story yet, so his underling takes the fall. It's like the writers were allergic to any forward momentum of the story until they reached the final third, because any time it looked like there was actual plot progression, they'd just immediately undo it. AND ALSO!!!!!! to defeat the netherbeast army a handful of episodes later, Ming Xian and Ji Bozai use this thing called the Heartbond Array, which irrevocably proves Ming Xian's feelings for him because they have to be in love and trust each other or it doesn't work. But then when Ming Xian tries to steal the Golden Millet Dream a couple episodes after that, Ji Bozai doesn't think to ask why she needs it. He just jumps to "Everything was a lie." Like... brother you literally just did the Heartbond Array with her like a day ago what do you meannnnnnnnnnnnnnnn????? WHAT DO YOU MEANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN?????? And then I don't even have a problem with miscommunication as a trope, but the way like 90% of the problems between Ming Xian and Ji Bozai just. wouldn't even happen if they would just! share information! or ask pertinent questions! But they keep withholding info from each other for no real reason and repeatedly choose to walk away from each other instead of actually communicating. Like the writing is just so painfully bad I cannot take itttttttttttt.
anyway PETITION FOR YU CHENG'EN TO BE A ROMANTIC LEAD!!!! He's too good at looking completely and utterly devastated and being angsty and sad and totally sells the whole "devotion no matter the cost" type. I am convinced that this story would be 100x better if the romance was Ming Xian/Situ Ling because she never had to lie to him about her identity and just the way he was willing to give up everything to save her!!! Let that be the romance and she's just playing Ji Bozai for the Golden Millet Dream and never falls for him. also we have got to admit that the writers made Situ Ling a villain bc otherwise he would be a real genuine threat to the Ming Xian/Ji Bozai romance lmao.

✨Proud Graduate of LITC University — Majored in Suffering, Survived the Happy Ending✨
I don't even know where to start. This drama was a rollercoaster, the kind that starts with pretty visuals and ends with you emotionally concussed but smiling like an idiot. It gave me everything I was craving from the lead couple duo—and simultaneously robbed me of peace, sleep, and the will to move on. Watching Love in the Clouds is like ordering dessert and getting served a flaming cocktail of heartbreak and obsession on the side. Delicious, yes, but also... why am I both crying and grinning at the same time??
Visuals: criminally gorgeous.
Ji Bozai walks around like a forbidden daydream someone leaked from a fanfic draft, and Ming Yi? My celestial menace, my ethereal queen—she could blink and I’d compose sonnets. Whoever styled them deserves a national award and an apology from everyone else.
Chemistry? Nuclear.
They lie to each other, they know they’re lying, and still commit to the act like it’s a full-time job with benefits. It’s sexy, chaotic, and morally questionable in all the best ways. Then—they start catching feelings, and suddenly I’m cheering for two emotionally repressed disaster souls fumbling their way into love. Also, those kisses? The ML was devouring her like rent was due. I had to pause to breathe.
Character depth: both leads are layered, subtly portrayed, and beautifully matched—two people of the same heart and mind, equally brilliant and broken. Watching them collide and heal each other feels like witnessing divine irony wrapped in longing.
The plot twists? Delicious. The post-reveal dynamic? Even better. Once Ji Bozai dropped the brooding act and turned into a menace with intent, I achieved temporary enlightenment. He’s shameless, in love, and completely gone for her—and I loved every second.
The supporting cast adds richness and warmth, especially the companion beasts—loyal, pure manifestations of their masters’ souls. Their dynamic was tender, funny, and surprisingly emotional. Their growing friendship? The cutest celestial subplot imaginable.
And speaking of friendships: Love in the Clouds quietly but powerfully celebrates female solidarity.
The women in this story—be they immortal warriors, disciples, or queens of their own chaos—stand by each other with grace, loyalty, and quiet ferocity. We get moments of sisterhood, mutual respect, and that rare “we’re stronger together” energy that makes you want to stand up and cheer.
Now, let’s talk frustration.
The dragged-out secret identity arc aged me a decade. Every time I thought we were free, the writers said, “Plot twist!” and roundhouse-kicked my soul. Episode 31 hit like a divine truck—my spirit ascended, crashed, and still begged for more.
And of course, the eternal Delulu Second Male Lead curse.
My guy looked in the mirror, saw “romantic rival,” and said, “Time to self-destruct.” I prayed for peace and got psychological warfare instead. Credit where it’s due though—the actor ate that role. The comment section may never recover.
But here’s the thing: despite the chaos, Love in the Clouds sticks the landing. The final episodes delivered emotional closure, a surprisingly wholesome resolution, and—miracle of miracles—the main crew made it out alive. The ending felt earned, unhurried, and deeply satisfying. I closed the last episode warm, fuzzy, and slightly feral from all the emotions, but content.
2025 offered many good dramas, but this one carved its name straight into my chaotic little heart.
HMH and LYX—if the heavens are listening, reunite again. You two were pure cinematic alchemy.
