Honestly shocking.
I am not the type to watch historical C-dramas, but I wanted to give this one a try because of POJ (Pursuit of Jade). Usually with historical dramas I tend to drop it due to the complexity of it and a lot of plot twist, but this dramas was very very good. I would still prefer POJ than this, but this is a very close second. The actors are amazing and their chemistry is off the charts. The plot at the end did seem to confuse me and made me want to skip which is why i didnt give this a 9-10. I have dropped many historical dramas, but the enemies to lovers, fake dating, and their willingness to die for eachother is what brought this show to life and I highly recommend this show to people who want to get into historical dramas or just watched POJ and want to indulge in more historical settings. Was this review helpful to you?
Good beginning but then declining
The story itself was nothing special, but the humor in the beginning episodes was very entertaining and really pulled me into the drama. Later on the plot sadly became very repetitive and poorly executed. The only thing that motivated me to finish the drama was the actors and the intense chemistry between the first and second couple. Overall the drama was kinda hard to watch and got boring with time but I still finished it in the end.(Situ Ling was by far the most annoying character to ever exist, no hate to the actor tho)

Neo said "TRUST ME" and I did .....
Right from the moment this drama was announced,I was already screaming “take my time!”. It was all over my insta feed ... Neo finally getting a good female lead? At last my prayers are answered ✨✨ For the last few dramas, my poor boy was suffering from tragic screen-time cuts and horrible Fl who had the emotional range of wet toast. I will not speak much cause then the fan girls will start a war against me ... but hallelujah, both those curses have been lifted. Lu Yu Xiao entered like a GOWDESS (using my international accent here) ~ stunning, expressive, mamma Mia ... hands-down one of my favourite actresses, an absolute show-stealer.now let's dive into the details:
🌸 PLOT :
Butter smooth , Fluffy Like a Cloud
The storyline glides beautifully i mean I experienced no dull moments, okay there was some misunderstanding stretched into 15 episodes but I don't mind it personally, overall it is soft mix of humor, mystery, and action, with layered conspiracy. NiCe !!!
The real showstopper, though? Sisterhood. 🙌
For once, no jealous vamps, no “he’s mine!” nonsense... just women supporting women sharing genuine, warm bonds.. ahh !! Like a breath of fresh air.
Can we please make this the new trend? Yes THANK YOU 🫶
🎭 Characters:
Buffet of Brilliance ... I can't have somany favourites in one pot but here I have ...
1. ML (Ji Bozai )- Smart, kind, and heartbreakingly good-looking. Despite his tragic childhood and his inability to trust people .. he’s not that typical revenge-driven hero. He’s calm, focused, thoughtful and deliciously balanced, a perfect male lead material.
2. FL (Ming yi)– Beauty with brains with a dash of chaos. She’s no damsel waiting for rescue — she’s the one lighting the torch, decisively choosing her path , and occasionally outsmarting the hero. Even when poisoned, she stands stronger than most people on their best day both physically and emotionally.
3. Princess Tianji – Now that’s a queen arc done right. Betrayed, sidelined, and still managing to hold her crown without dropping her grace. Though she gets her person of interest in the end but honestly her love story wasn't as appealing as Watching her evolve from heartbreak to empowerment was ...... She embodies the modern spirit of women ~ wise, wounded, but walking tall.
4. Twenty-Seven – the adorable cat familiar. Sassy, loyal, and constantly on the edge of trouble. Basically the emotional support cat we all need.
PS : I used to have a cat, she refused to give even 2 damns about me in the overall span of 1.5 years she stayed with me. Get me thinking if the cat familiar can be so faithful?
5. Zhang tai ~ the ride-or- die bestie and emotional support warrior every heroic FL deserves...
6. Buxiu : ML’s dragon familiar, the blunt truth-bomb dispenser who deserves his own spin-off show, honestly.
🎬 CAST:
no weak links or Overshadowing
Neo Hao (HMH) : My forever favourite! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: my boy is pure talent plus kawaii pro max . His expressions, his voice, his intensity just lovely .. And I am glad he finally got a role worthy of his range. He’s charming, intense, and this time, he turned up the heat to “passionate lover mode”,Those kissing scenes? Phew.!!!!! 🔥 (Source : ep 23 first 10 min)
Lu Yu Xiao: My girl crush, my goddess of expressions. From assassin in My Journey to You to bubbly businesswoman in Perfect Match, she has played a good bandwidth of role genres. Awesome !! For someone her age.
Her chemistry with Neo felt quite natural, Their comedic timing .. good .. emotional sync ..chef's kiss 💋
And the side cast deserves a whole standing ovation too , familiar faces like Quan Yilun, Hu Yunhao, and Hu Caihong.Pretty decent IMO
👘 Styling:
Very xianxia in every bit.
high-budget fantasy elegance ,. Flowing gowns, detailed embroidery, graceful hairdos, reflecting the same vibe like cult fav LBFAD, TTEOTM and Moonlight Mystique glamorous and fantasy perfect.
🏯 SET DESIGN AND VISUAL APPEAL:
I’m pretty sure I’ve seen most of these sets before, but the CGI and VFX team made them look brand new. The floating boats aesthetics? Seemed something well thought... The whole world looked realistic with least to nil green-screen awkwardness.
🎵 MUSIC:
Beautiful, But Missing that 'WOW' track.
The OST is soft and soulful (extra love for the one sung by Neo himself 🥰)., But I wish there was one standout track that makes you say, “That’s the Love in the Clouds song.” you know like the one that sticks in your head long after the finale. So overall music is lovely, but not legendary. May be they could have used a sa dingding track here
💭 Final Thoughts:
I had high hopes for this drama and I am more than satisfied. i thought I will not get anything better than Moonlight mistique this year ... (Thanks to feud makers) But this one just made me happier.
✨Totally, completely, and unapologetically recommended. ☁️💫

Highly recommended
There has been a lot of competition lately but this is the only one that made me hook. I am not even a xianxia lover but I really love this drama. It started slow but it got better and better. Neo Hou has proven that he is not just handsome but a great actor as well. I also love the fl, too. Lu Yu xiao is so pretty. They look so good together. Was this review helpful to you?
The first person he fell in love with was the right one
I started this series with low expectations because it’s not usually my genre — but HMH and LYX’s portrayal of Ji Bozai and Mingyi completely won me over. I’ve seen HMH in other dramas before, but this is the one that officially turned me into a fan.Normally, I lose interest toward the end of a series, but this one did the opposite — the further it went, the more invested I became. For me, that alone makes it a solid 10/10.
The story is thoughtfully written, the acting is outstanding, and the music is beautiful. I’ve already rewatched it multiple times and still keep discovering new things to appreciate.
And the chemistry? So real and natural that it actually made me want to ship them in real life — which has never happened to me before. This is the first time I’ve rooted for a CP this hard.
In the end, all I can say is: I truly fell in love with this drama — the story, the cast, and even the OST. It’s a rare kind of series that stays with you long after it ends.

Supporting cast steals the spotlight
The leads definitely have chemistry, and the secondary characters’ stories are decent. But the female lead is just… really poorly written. It’s not only about the lying—it’s the inconsistency between how she’s portrayed and who she actually is. I just don’t see the "good" in her.The secondary couple’s story is far more beautiful. Honestly, I wish their narrative had taken center stage instead.
The writing overall isn’t very strong, and it’s clear this series leans heavily on romance, which
the series delivered... averagely.
Anyway, Hou Minghao is absolutely beautiful here.

Slow Burn Perfection Wrapped in Pain and Poetry
Love in the Clouds" isn't a drama you watch. It's one you feel. It's slow, deliberate, and achingly beautiful - like watching two souls collide in slow motion while the world around them burns quietly.Let's start with Hou Ming Hao - because, honestly, this man is acting his heart out. He doesn't need grand gestures or dramatic outbursts; sometimes he just stands there, and you can feel everything. The pain, the longing, the quiet storm behind his eyes - it's all there, written in silence. His performance is all about restraint, and somehow, that makes every flicker of emotion hit ten times harder. When he's hurting, you hurt with him. When he looks at her with that mixture of love and fear, it's devastating in the best way.
And Lu Yu Xiao? She's the perfect balance to his intensity. There's something soft yet strong about her presence - calm waters hiding deep emotion. The chemistry between the two of them is simmering. It's not loud or explosive; it's subtle, magnetic, and real. Their interactions feel like poetry - every glance, every touch, every unspoken word heavy with meaning.
The story itself might take its time to unfold, but that's part of its charm. I usually get bored of slow plots, but this has me hooked.
Hou Ming Hao is delivering another masterpiece performance, and paired with Lu Yu Xiao's elegance, "Love in the Clouds" feels like watching destiny slowly take form.

Predictable and blind to love
I'm still reeling from "Love in the Clouds" 2025. The male lead's intelligence and insightfulness made him almost infallible... except when it came to the female lead.
He could dissect complex business deals and outmaneuver his rivals with ease, but couldn't see through the female lead's childish antics? It was like he had a blind spot the size of a crater.
Every time she pulled a "I'm cute, so I can do whatever I want" move, he was completely oblivious. I mean, I get it, she's charming, but come on! He's supposed to be perceptive.
It felt like the writers deliberately made him dumb around her, just so the plot could move forward. I wasn't buying it.
He could see through everything but couldn't even see how the female lead was manipulating him with her childish behavior
He was totally dumb whenever it came to seeing through the female lead's camouflage and stupid tricks
Overall, "Love in the Clouds" was a bit of a disappointment. Maybe if you're into sweet, fluffy romances, you'll love it. But for me, it was a hard pass.

Sincere Love Meets Endless Betrayal
I actually liked this drama at the beginning because the FL (Ming Yi) is cheeky, playful, and loves to flirt with the ML (Ji Bo Zai). Their early interactions were cute and sweet, fun, romantic, and lighthearted. But as the story progresses… it turns into a full-blown emotional roller coaster. I was really looking forward to this drama and even counted down the days. I bought the express package, but I’m so disappointed because the plot keeps revolving around betrayal and lies between the leads, leaving the FL stagnant and making the story boring and emotionally exhausting. The ML has a painful and traumatic past, and despite having deep trust issues, he keeps choosing to believe in the FL. He gives her chance after chance, opens his heart to her, and loves her with everything he has.
And what does the FL do? Lie. Over and over again.
Even halfway through the drama, the betrayals don’t stop. It’s not just because of circumstances, it’s because she’s selfish. I’ve seen spoilers up to three-quarters of the drama, and the FL’s identity is still hidden. I can’t imagine waiting through three-quarters of the drama just for more deception. Seriously, can’t there be any other plot development or character growth?
People say we should understand the FL because of her upbringing and she was poisoned. But it’s not the ML who poisoned her, right. So why does she torture the poor ML so badly with her lies and schemes? It’s just… unfair and frustrating. Honestly… she was raised as a royal child, it’s not like her life was as tragic as the ML’s. So why couldn’t she just be honest? She repeatedly endangered the ML’s life, lied, and betrayed him. At the start, she even followed him willingly… just to steal from him. And then she keeps scheming and deceiving.
Seriously, is this all the FL can do? why can’t she be smarter and capable of reciprocal love? The ML does not deserve her in this state. He’s sincere, loyal, and loving, but all she gives is trickery and betrayal. ML gives all his sincerity and trust, but FL doesn’t match it emotionally or morally.
The director does an amazing job making the audience sympathize with the ML, but completely fails to develop the FL. Her repeated lies overshadow the sincere love of the ML. I’m so disappointed ☹️ I love the ML with all my heart, but my patience with the FL is gone.
✨“If you love angst, betrayal, and watching a ML who deserves the world suffer because of love, this drama will break your heart in slow motion.” 💔
