Ji Bo Zai made my top 5 cdrama favourite characters!

ML portrayed Ji Bo Zai so well. He’s a dream! He’s flirty and cute, yet complex at the same time, shaped by his difficult childhood. You can see from his eyes that he’s hopelessly in love with her, which makes him such a conflicting, struggling and layered character that audience can relate to. Ji Bo Zai just made my top 5 Cdrama characters of all time. It was my first time watching this male actor (thank you, Neo, for giving us such a performance!!).

The FL nailed her character and the side stories of the supporting characters (27, Buxiu, Yan xiao, tian jin etc) were endearing as well.

Storyline: Good. But if I were to nitpick, why do they always have to add a second male lead who’s delusionally in love with the female lead? Why does he have to turn bad? He was perfectly fine the way he was at the start.

Standing ovation: The couple’s chemistry is exceptional. The CGI is good, the styling is on point, and all the OSTs are perfect.

PS Ji Bo Zai's 'liar.......'and 'say my name....' im dead......

"If only there was a Spell in this World that could make the Rain Last Forever"

Ming Yi´s words to Ji Bo Zai are constantly ringing in my ears even after finished this masterpiece that has become Love in The Clouds. I am not much of a Full length c-drama watcher. But Shorts on youtube and the amazing reviews here on MDL made me want to give Love in The Clouds a shot. Honestly, i felt in my heart i would come to enjoy this drama, even love it. Love it i did.
Everything about this story is top-notch. The romance is crafted in a epic way. Same with the directing, the settings, costumes...the plot. It felt like i stepped into a Enthralling Dream that i never wanted to wake up from. They had me on Edge the whole journey. They made me laugh and cry.I was deeply invested and binge watched this in four days. Damn, i am having a fever now.

I don`t know how to really move on now, these kind of fevers are the worst because of how bittersweet it is. My heart is heavy with happiness and sadness that the journey of Ming Yi & Ji Bo Zai has come to an end. Their love-story is so entertaining in its deceptive and light-hearted view with two mainleads that really initially distrust each other. But there is this magic between them, call it on-screen chemistry between Hou Ming & Lu Yu, i mean these two are incredible in their performances and it is indeed my first time watching them on-screen.I fell completely in love. The rawness, complexity, beauty and grace these two had and their view of life and the world. The way they viewed each other. So much admiration, respect and awe. Fated soulmates, without both of them knowing.

I will miss the scenes where Ji Bo Zai tease her, where she charms him, when they eat pancakes, when they are with their Beast Pets, training at the Shousha Academy, when they are connecting, when they are bonding, when they embrace each other, when they fight side by side...when they so lovingly and ardently protect each other. Love in The Clouds is a enchantment itself, a dream i indeed did not want to wake up from. Dear to my heart now.

Love in the Clouds—and your heart says yes.

The story moves with confidence, tension tightens at the right moments, and a handful of neat twists keep the air lively. The action pops—well-timed, nimble, and boosted by beautiful CGI that that isn't overdone. Furthermore, the romance lands softly. Light, humorous, thoughtful dialogue carries the love scenes, and the OST folds around them like a warm echo, pulling genuine feeling to the surface.

Set against a shimmering fantasy world, the relationship between Ji Bo Zai and Ming Yi begins in deception and matures into truth. It’s simple and fun, yet honest enough to linger—helped greatly by Lu Yu Xiao, whose turn as an irresistibly youthful heroine makes falling for this couple feel effortless.

It all crescendos toward a finale that satisfies without overreaching. A gentle, glowing ending to a tale that earns its warmth.

Yes, I fall in love too!

Love in the Clouds : Defeat, Disguise, and Desire:

Okay, this is my rewritten review after finishing the full drama 💫. Honestly, Love in the Clouds didn’t disappoint me. It had its flaws, but it also gave me so many things to love.

When we talk about the story, it begins with two warriors facing each other in a grand tournament ⚔️. One wins, one loses. But here’s the twist — the one who lost is actually a girl disguised as a man, and she has been the undefeated champion for years. This time, not only does she lose, but she’s also poisoned. The winner, Ji Bozai, becomes the rising star of his realm overnight 🌙, while Ming Yi, the fallen champion, believes he was the one who poisoned her. To find the antidote, she disguises herself as a dancer in a brothel — the very place her opponent often visits. And from there, the story unfolds with fate, revenge, and a growing tenderness that caught me completely off guard 💕.

I really love this kind of setup — it’s dramatic, mysterious, and full of emotional tension.

❤️ Chemistry & Leads

Now, my favorite part — the main couple. Ahh I’m dead 😭. I absolutely love both the ML and FL. Together, they’re breathtaking. Their chemistry feels like gold melting with mercury — radiant, fluid, and inseparable ✨. Every time they appear together, I get butterflies in my stomach 🦋.

Hou Minghao and Lu Yuxiao are perfect in their roles. Their eyes say everything — full of pain, longing, and unspoken emotions. Just one glance between them can tell an entire love story 💞. Maybe I’m biased because I already love both actors, but their connection feels so alive that I completely forget they’re acting.

Honestly, the best part of the whole drama for me was them — Ji Bozai & Ming Yi. Their chemistry is the reason this drama became a success 🌹. Separately, they’re good — but together, they’re absolutely stunning.

✨ Supporting Cast

The second male lead really tested my patience 😤. At first, he seemed pitiful and I felt sorry for him. I even thought, “Okay, he might be annoying but not evil.” But later… he really disappointed me. Still, I couldn’t fully hate him because I liked that actor in his previous dramas 😅.

The third male lead was the opposite — I actually started liking him from the beginning, even when he appeared to be a villain. But as the story went on, it turned out he wasn’t bad at all, and I really appreciated his character growth 🩵.

As for the second female lead, oh gosh, she was super annoying at first 🙄. I didn’t like her at all. But later, she softened and became really sweet — it surprised me in a good way. The third female lead, on the other hand, broke my heart 💔. She did so much for the man she loved, but he never returned her feelings. I really felt for her.

🤔 Pacing & Production

If I have to mention a flaw, it’s definitely the pacing. The first few episodes were quite slow, full of teasing and buildup before the real plot started. The main story only picked up around episode 4 or 5.

And I have to talk about the background settings. The Jixiu Abyss looked fine, but Yaoguang Mountain... hmm 😬 I really didn’t like it. Inconsistent set design, cheap background CGI, and awkward visual effects — maybe I’m picky, but it didn’t look right to me. Some side characters who appeared just once or twice were also quite cringe 😅. Their acting didn’t feel natural. acting was stiff

But aside from those few weak points, I loved the costumes, the story progression, and how well the main roles were written. The character growth was clear and satisfying, and even though some camera angles felt awkward, it didn’t ruin my overall experience 🎥.

🌸 Overall

Love in the Clouds is a gorgeous, emotional, and engaging fantasy drama. It gave me everything I love — a mix of disguise, revenge, fate, and a deep emotional connection between the leads 🌧️. It’s beautifully shot, romantically written, and full of tension that keeps your heart hooked.

If you like xianxia romance with beautiful chemistry, intense emotions, and a touch of mystery, this one is absolutely worth watching 💕.

I need more!!!!

I don't enjoy watching this type of genre and tend to avoid those with too many episodes. But with Love in the Clouds, it got me hooked from the first episode. The chemistry and the acting of both the ML and FL were superb. I hate Youku for cutting it down from 40 to 36 eps!!! This is my first time watching a drama, leaving me wanting more episodes to watch. I hope they will have another drama together in the near future!!!

Watching Love in The Clouds —> 。 ₊°༺❤︎༻°₊ 。

idk how to describe feelings i got by watching this, it just like ☁️✨🌸🪷🌷🪽🕊️🥰

LITC presents a very good plot, and most importantly, it doesn't fall apart. Every storyline (each arc) was executed perfectly, even though there were some difference made from the novel, the story in the drama still very good!

I really love the visuals (THE BEST!) Every scene is so beautiful, the sets are beautifully crafted🥹 not to mention our main CP (Neo Hou and Yuxiao? PERFECT! ☁️😻)

All the characters are so well-suited! They really fit the roles they play!

it’s been a day since the final ep aired, and i’m still hooked😔 also—PLEASE GIVE ME THE PAVILION KISS SCENE IN HD!!!!!!!!!!

Perfection

This was... I dare say perfection. Even though Xiania might be able to please me too easily. Or I just pick the right ones :>

The plot was exciting from beginning to end.
--> But it often seems (not just with this one but in general) that like 3/4 of it tells one big story (one big enemy everything revovles around and who is then defeated) and the remaining 1/4 feels just like the aftermath with another big finale.
Well, I won't complain, I still loved everything about it.

The acting was superb. I actually have a direct comparison regarding the ML since I just finished "Back From The Brink". Though I had to get warm with the actor in the last one, I loved him in this drama right from the beginning. I don't know if it was the directing or his acting just improved a hundred times over the last 2 years, I don't know. But man, he was perfection. Every move, every expression, every tear, every shiver, every touch. I bought it. I bought it a hundred times.

The FL was great as well. Though I haven't seen her before, I can't complain about her performance at all. She was a perfect match for the ML, they complemented each other. Both of them had such a touching chemistry. I mean, sometimes I started crying without a reason - the scene wasn't even that sad! And I had so much to laugh in the first half of the story with all their bickering and acting within acting and deception game. And then those sensitive moments. And hot scenes - literally and metaphorically! And skinship! And kisses! I think it's enough mentioning it to make my point clear on those ones ;)

Scenery: Beautiful.
CGI: Awesome. I mean, of course you still see that it's computer based. But it was still so well done and implanted into the scenes, that it created a smooth flow of the scenes. Even the green screen scenes were well composed.

The intro: Completely different from the ones I watched so far but even more stunning than previous ones from other Xianxia.

The only mistake I actually made was to start this one right after finishing another drama with the same actor. I forgot that Chinese dramas often dub their shows and the actors rarely stick with the same dubbers. The first moment the ML spoke I realized right away - I had to get used to his new voice the first 2 or 3 episodes actually.

While writing this review, I'm listening to the soundtrack. Warm and touching compositions, that throw me right back into its world.

- Did you notice how often I was forced to use the word "perfect"? :p

Most dynamic couple

I had no expectations, i did not know who neo was as I have never watched his previous dramas. But im totally hooked with this. This is the best cdrama for me and its going to my top list simply because the ending was so satisfying - not some measly 2-3minutes of open ending crap but something to make me get closure from nearly 36 hours of up and downs. This year had so many unsatisfying endings so this made it to my no 1 of 2025.

Maybe the chemistry is what makes this the best, maybe the plot or something. maybe more highlight could have been given to other couples rather than situ ling, i forwarded most of his scenes..

Pretty Good!

I'd like to start off the review with a statement- 'Best chemistry and cast I've ever seen.'

The tension right from the very first episode keeps you hooked onto the drama! The intense romantic atmosphere with some mixture of suspicion and betrayal was portrayed beautifully! Although I really loved the it, as someone who doesn't watch fantasy cdramas at all, I did kind of have a hard time understanding some bits and parts of it since this was my first in this genre.

I've loved Yu Chengen's acting since Coroner's diary and intially thought it'd be a similar role. But him as the villain was really really impressive as well! His acting showed a lot more depth and it was really great!

Lu Yuxiao had been one of my favorites since time and him are just right and now seeing her in this drama, her acting has improved so much more! She did the role BEAUTIFULLY! Her expressions were so complex and intricate! She gave the character absolute justice!

This was my first drama by Minghao and oh was I left speechless! He is INSANELY good! His expressions were so flirty and perfect I was left blushing every single time! He is an amazing actor and he was absolutely perfect through and through in the drama. To say I've become a fan would be an understatement.

Overall, I really like the drama and the cast! The songs and OSTs were really beautiful as well! The aesthetics of the drama were perfectly suited to the theme and the vfx was great too! Loved it!

Loved everything about it

This year has been a drama slump for me, couldn't seem to really get into dramas this year and only a few of them have really left an impression on me, this drama being one of them. To me it was a refreshing change of plot without the usual tropes being involved. In most dramas, I tend to find the secondary plot a bit of a drag, terribly sorry to most dramas, but I do not care what the villain is up to, like leave me guessing or just don't show the evil dude, like I really could not care at all what he is up to. And I hate to admit that I am like this with secondary leads as well. I am here for the main plot and no supporting characters that take up most of the screen time. I know the evil dude and the plots have big roles but could I care ? Not one bit. There is stupidity in either main plot, evil dude story or secondary plot. I can't handle stupidity x3. Glad to say this isn't one of these dramas and that really helped me out of said slump.

I love the visuals and the writing of this. I love how both leads are powerful in their own right. It really is rare to see leads be powerful in an equal setting, most of the time it is the ml being more powerful and resourceful than the fl, which is nice but gets a bit boring for me. I love it when a fl is powerful and can equally match the ml in terms of power and it is justified too. She was a crown prince and a general. Like yes she is that girl.

I also love the shameless of the ml, I do not like leng bing bing mls, and I am happy to say that ji bozai did not disappoint. The female lead also had her own moments and really matched the vibe of the couple well. I just feel like leads pairing really was so good and evenly matched. One thing that does bother is how some people were saying like the fl should've told the ml sooner about being poisoned and for that I have to say like I loved that she held out on her secret for as long as she did, to me it was nice to see that she try to solve her inner conflict about either dying or betraying him, for as long as she did. To me it showed that she didn't take the matter lightly.
Also, the fact that she held onto her secret of being ming xian for as long as she did, consider me impressed. Usually, the ml would like figure it out instantly or just within a short period of time, but girly held tight to that secret like her life depended on it, cause it did, like if she revealed it, she would be betraying him as her previously mentioned secret would be exposed. I love it when a plot, like actually plots and puts importance on the small things. I also love the angst that came with it.

Basically there is not much that I do not love about this drama. Only the airing schedule that was a pain and a half, what do you men one episode a day for some days? That is over as it is completed.
