Cutesy
I love the characters. So much potential for that amazing tension buildup but they didn't add enough episodes to get us there like they really could have. At least one more episode would have driven it home and maybe a little DNC. The actor that canceled or set up the meet up could have been used more. The girl who played the sister, it's like you understand her role but you don't. The managers easily played her role so she wasn't needed if you ask me. Main leads are absolute eye candy though but they should have given us more for the ending. But overall, it's a cute watch and Afuogi is hilarious! I love me some him!Was this review helpful to you?

Cute
March 31, 2024This jdrama BL is cute and fluffy to say the least. For a 3 episode drama, I did feel a bit underwhelmed with the plot but thats okay cause they really put all the possible things they needed to deliver.
The casts are pretty good as well in terms of delivering the acting needed. Definitely a cute ride to watch and easy to take in. Moreover, it can be finished in just one sitting.

A sweetly comedic story
Upon initial read of the synopsis of this BL, the likelihood for the 'cringe factor' to be off the charts is really high. But instead, what we find here is great chemistry between the leads and believable acting. The comedic timing in certain scenes had me wheezing with laughter. It was a perfect balance of funny and sweet.I really loved how this series subtlety addresses the people who are watching the series and how being a fan / stan of something doesn't necessary make you a weirdo / loser.
The only thing that would absolutely make this better, is if it had more episodes or a s2.
It's just too good for it to be this short.
But what a fun and easy watch to start off 2024!

Half rom-com, half meta-comedy, all charm
Aw hell they really got me with this one. I wasn't expecting to be so thoroughly charmed by this little show, but they truly won me over. The balance between incredibly clever meta-comedy, classic rom-com shenanigans, and genuinely emotionally impactful scenes is absolutely pitch-perfect. The writing is consistently excellent, the editing is tight and precise and enhances both the comedy and the more serious moments perfectly, and the acting is frankly phenomenal.
This kind of over-the-top humour can be really hard for me to get into but here it feels weirdly natural and grounded and made me laugh out loud quite a bit.
And even if the humour isn't quite your thing you'd be hard-pressed not to fall in love with the characters. Not only are our two mains absolute sweethearts whose dynamic is highly engaging and honestly a joy to watch, they are backed up by a wonderful cast of supporting characters who are all uniquely weird but equally lovable.
I won't claim this is some sort of cinematic masterpiece which has revolutionised the genre, but for a relatively straight-forward romantic comedy, this show sort of has it all - I honestly can't think of anything they could have done better.
In short, this story is funny, sweet, feels oddly real, and is incredibly fun to watch. I highly recommend you go check it out for yourself.

A Familiar Japanese BL Experience
This drama left me feeling underwhelmed and a bit frustrated. While the acting was undeniably cute and the performances had a genuine charm, the story itself fell flat. It felt like a rehash of every cliché in the BL genre, with nothing new or exciting to offer. The plot was so predictable that I found myself finishing scenes in my head before they played out on screen. There was little tension or surprise. I've seen this story countless times before, and this version didn’t add anything fresh to the formula.
That being said, the actors deserve credit for their efforts. Their chemistry and delivery elevated an otherwise mediocre script. It's a shame that their talent wasn’t given more to work with.
If you’re a die-hard BL fan looking for something light and familiar, this might be a decent watch. For those seeking innovation or a gripping narrative, you may want to skip it. It’s a 5/10 for me—cute acting, but overall, a forgettable experience.

Best use of three episodes
I'll never get tired of saying this: the TV series that are written so that there are no regrets at the end of the last episode are the best. When I saw that this drama had only three episodes I felt a little worried, because often times the writers seem unable to decide "how full" the episodes need to be; it's always either series that feel empty, or series that are so full of unfinished business by the end that they feel like they were supposed to be much longer."I became the main role of a BL drama" feels just right from the beginning to the end. The characters are introduced little by little and nothing is spoonfed to the viewers. They also felt detailed enough to not make me feel like I'm looking at cardboard cutouts (something pretty hard to achieve with so little screentime). The plot is also well-made and interesting, nothing felt like it was dragging for too long and nothing ever felt rushed. Perfect pacing!
Overall this can be finished in less than two and a half hours. It's fun, it's well-made, and it's not demanding in terms of plot. Very good way to spend a free evening!

I Did Not Find It Funny
I did not find this BL funny at least not with the main couple. Billed as a comedy, I did not see it as funny or even humorous. On the contrary, I found it sad and rather lonely. In the sense, you have two individuals who are products of their culture and society that are so terrified and fearful of being open and honest with each other that because of that, they nearly lost each other in the process. I just do not understand the horror of even hinting that you like a person. This is actually a deeply interesting and moving story with profound consequences to it. There is nothing wrong with the acting in this series. It is sharp, and at times rather poignant. However, who really runs away with their subtle performances are the two respective managers of these guys. This is a cute story that should have been way better. The Japanese use the voiceover to explain a lot of the action internally with the characters which I detest. It is a cheap way for performers not to have to ‘act’. And it robs the audience of seeing anything really meaningful. Was this review helpful to you?

With its smart, lighthearted humor and beautifully sensitive storytelling, the series won me over from the very first episode. I couldn’t help but root for Aoyagi and Akafuji’s happiness. I really loved how the characters evolved, and how the story kept a playful tone while still respecting the deeper emotional themes.
But what truly elevates the series are the stellar performances from Alan Abe and Nichika Akutsu. Their chemistry is effortless and magnetic. Both actors deliver emotionally rich, expressive performances that pull you in completely. They bring real depth to their roles and have pitch-perfect comedic timing, stealing every scene they’re in. Highly recommended!
PS: Kijima and Yukari deserved a series just for them.

It was ok.
This drama was just ok, i enjoyed it. It was cute but it was not very special. The story was good, but i think they could have done a lot more with it.
The visuals were not very good, like moments of over lighting, or water spit out on the camera lens...
Acting was good. There was one kissing scene, but you can hardly call it a kissing scene, it was just a few seconds of lips barely touching. Dynamics between leads was good, but i can't really speak of chemistry.
Overall, a good drama to watch for one time, that is enough.

Machi Suzuri must be proud!
For a Manga released on Twitter in 2020 and becoming a beautifully executed short series (3 episodes), Machi Suzuri must be beaming as its writer and illustrator. There is only 3 episodes of 45 minutes each that made it extra difficult for the director to provide such a concise but well told story.
it is a small production but it showed a well executed short series. The story from beginning to end smoothly flowed, the artists acted well within their characters (so close to the Manga character I am seeing what I read being played in front of me). The wardrobe was just right, supporting cast made the main characters able to tell their story with clarity, and the set was simply done to meet the scene setting.
It is so far the best Japanese short BL series I have watched for a long time.
This is a highly recommended watch for anyone who enjoys BL genre, and even for those who don't but open to the idea.
Screenplay was well written, directed well, and roles were portrayed marvelously.
Thanking the production staff and producer for investing in this series.

AMAZING ROMCOM
I Became A Lead in A BL Drama is another Japanese outing and I am all for it. The story follows two actors who are on their way to stardom. Hajime started as a child actor and is haunted by the commercial that he did when he was a kid and Akafuji is this fresh new heartthrob and they were both chosen to lead a new BL series but things got awkward when Akafuji can’t tell Hajime that he is a fan of his and Hajime thought that he does not like him. Now, this is one of those misunderstood tropes where they are already slowly falling in love with each but are too afraid to tell each other about but what I love about this is the approach. I love that the show decided to slowly pull the covers on this one and create such lovely interactions between the characters.I have to admit that both actors in the lead are extremely handsome but I have to give it to Akutsu Nichika who is playing Aogiyama Hajime because he is a really hot human being and I was really building a crush on him. He gave this role a really good portrayal and he was so attractive. I actually think that both actors did an incredible job in playing these characters because you can clearly see what they are thinking by looking at their movements and, of course, the inner thoughts are spoken too. I feel like this drama is specifically catered to BL fans and that this one right here will make BL fans fall in love with the industry again. We all have been shipping our actors when they are playing these gay characters but it is very rare to see them really falling in love but we tend to overly wish for it that it can be dangerous in real world so seeing a fictionalized idea of what we want is pretty amazing because we are seeing the actors of a BL story fall in love. It is like seeing what we have been wanting to see happen in an alternate reality and that is comforting in its own way. I know that this is still a work of fiction but it is really comforting. At least, for me. I will not be shipping these actors in real life but it is to nice to it happen still or to have a version of it. This is only a three-episode show and I am not really mad at that because I still think that we got so much of what we needed from it. I feel like the characters had amazing interactions not just with each other but with the supporting cast as well. We have an amazing set of secondary characters here and it worked. Personally, I wish we got to see more of the relationship of the managers. I feel like they are very cute too and they had so much energy between them. Luckily, the love story of Aogiyama Hajime and Akafuji Yuichiro is enough to make me in love with the entire story that we got to see here. I am wishing to see more of these couple now that they are honest with their emotions and there could still so much story that they can put in this narrative. Anyways, I am just daydreaming here because I still believe that what we got in this show is a satisfying story for a lovely couple. Was this review helpful to you?
